Found while I was in the area picking up some solved mystery caches. Pretty thick bush through these parts. Reasonably quick find once I made it to GZ. Thank you Team Jeckyl, adopted by ttrogg, for placing On Charleston Rise for the geocaching community.# # SmileSmile #14830 SmileSmile # #

Our usual Wednesday wander now changed to a Tuesday trek with a starfish and the Rat. Our target was the My Charleston series and as the owner wanted to undertake a maintenance check on them all we had the pleasure of his company.

An enjoyable lunch at the Lobethal bakery followed where we then made our way to get a few other smileys that were needed.

An extra find while completing the series.

All caches were in good condition unless noted otherwise.

Thank you for the cache ttrogg Find Number 9981 on 30/08/2022

Wednesday Wander was changed to a Tuesday Trekking day.
The group consisted of the Rat, the Starfish and an Adder.
We met up with Ttrogg to his My_Charleston X Series.
This was a fun but soggy trek around the Conservation Park.
Yay a bonus cache.

Then it was time for lunch at the Lobethal Bakery.
After lunch we headed out for smileys. Tftc

A pleasant morning stroll around the Charleston Conservation Park. An excellent loop walk in a quiet area. Cache found and log stamped. Thanks for the series Trogg!

A regular sized cache not too far from home that I had been saving for a rainy day, and today certainly qualifies.

It’s interesting to compare this patch of bush with say nearby Cromer Conservation Park which was not affected by recent fires.

Parked at Gate 1, I realized that this isn’t a quick drive by after all. About a 1km walk each way. At GZ , bush regeneration after the 2019 fire has complicated things somewhat, but the coordinates were spot on for me. Cache in great condition.

Thanks for the original hide Team Jeckyll and thanks to ttrogg for keeping this one in play.

Out & about today with clare007 & jafaz62. We headed to do the Charleston CP series of caches. After having lunch at the Charleston Hotel we were on our way.

This was a lovely 2.5hr walk along the track. We stopped to take photos, watch a variety of birds & listen to the chorus of frogs. There was all sorts of interesting fungi growing on the wood and in the ground, in the park, along the trail.

The regrowth after the fires made this quite a challenge to reach the cache but we got there & all is good with it.

Thanks for placing this cache for our enjoyment, Team Jeckyl and keeping this one alive ttrogg Smile

Down caching around Mt Torrens and surrounding areas today. An early shower of rain turned into a great day for caching. This cache is one that was found today.

A general log for all of the Charleston X caches.
An enjoyable walk around this park, have never been here before. Looks like this place has bounced back well after the fires a while ago.
Great to see this oldie brought back to life, thanks for looking after this one!

Find #4052 on 20 Apr 2022.

Awesome that this one had been resurrected from the ashes like a phoenix!
When I was last here there seemed little hope for its survival Surprised

Back in February 2020, I had been here before. It was nice then, in an eerie sort of way.
Recent bushfire had swept through the park and turned CP's GC2D7F2 into an ammo can full of papery ash Surprised This one may have also suffered, but since has been saved by Mr Ttrogg. Cool

But to find the cache in Feb 20, it was a straight walk in the park, over blackened soil, to an easy find at a burnt out tree... now less than two years later WOW what a difference! Big Grin

So yes... how hard can a boundary track be? Twisted It looked good from the entrance, a little dry grass had been cut down, slashed by the friends of the park or whoever. So off I trudged.
Prickles. Yep there were prickles and grass seeds of significant persistence. And who knows what was living in all that tall grass to the sides of the track. Then the track passed a dam - and I thought, this'll be the worst bit, a little more growth on the track and surrounds, but as it goes up the hill it'll clear up. So I pushed on. (detouring of course through the forests of undergrowth for the occasional cache!) And then more grass seeds. And reeds. And a million cat high bushy baby trees or whatever that understorey growth was - it was thick. And grass seeds. In my socks, penetrating my shoes. Even in my shirt - yes the grass was that high!
We're going on a cache hunt...
Some muggles actually hiked on past me! Or was I hallucinating? I never saw them again.
More grass. Taller than a kangaroo. Oh, and a kangaroo that I didn't see until it jumped out of the bushes startled right in front of me! What else could be in the long grass... yeah let's not think about that. Twisted
Up and over and around the corner in the track and ... where did the track even go ? Yep there's a track on my map leading back towards the road... but that's just weeds and bushes and who knows what! Too late to go back, committed now! But those prickles and grass seeds Surprised
So bashing through bush it was. And a very exhausted cat at the end!
And... did I mention the grass seeds [?]
I think that pair of shoes and socks may just be headed for the bin. Licking my wounds now Razz

My log of Feb last year did say "the regrowth will be amazing in time". Little did I know how right I was! Much needed rest back at the car.

Still a smiley's a smiley. And X certainly did mark a few spots!
All caches in good condition. If there were any snakes in here I must have scared them away with my singing Big Grin [:o)]

Gratitude to ttrogg for placing these caches clearly on the SA geomap under "X" Cool
and maintaining the old one!

In the middle of the new series here, detoured to find this cache, nicely hidden away and great to see it’s been replaced with something new

Today we headed up into the hills to doing some walking caches along the bike path and the Charleston X series plus a few others along the way.

Thanks for the cache

With the forecast for what looked to be a very pleasant Spring day, I thought I'd head out to Charleston Conservation Park to do the new(ish) puzzle series. And I wasn't disappointed - it was clear skies and sunny, no wind and not too warm.

I wandered my way around the perimeter and bashed and splashed my way through the post-fire regrowth and the little creeks and soaks. The thick long grass combined with the warm Spring weather had me a bit wary of snakes, but I didn't see any at all. They say what you can't see can't hurt you don’t they? I was lucky that the grass was mostly only just flowering, and ended up with no seeds in my socks at all. Quite a bonus!

This Traditional cache was found along the way and the recently replaced container and contents were in excellent condition.

Thanks Team Jeckyl and ttrogg for the cache.

A day out with Featherwaite.

We went to Charlston and Monarto and picked up any others we came across.

We completed this series (of what had been published) in about an hour and were second to find on all 8 caches. A nice little walk on a coolish morning.

Lucky to be walking in this park with the CO when this cache was replaced after the 2019 Cudlee Creek fire came through this area. Not a day any of us locals will ever forget.

Really enjoyed the walk here, lovely spot for a cache and it was simply stunning today with a carpet of winter moss surrounding GZ. Loved the placement of the cache too in this rocky outcrop.

So glad the original owners were able to adopt it out and keep this old cache available for years to come.

TFTC and the walk. A favourite point from the M's.

Was in the area today and have put in a replacement cache.
Park is open during the day but is currently closed at night to allow for feral animal control.
It's a great time to visit this park and see all the regrowth. I think winter will always be the best time to visit but waterproof footwear is highly recommended.

It has taken me 17 years to get to this cache, and when I finally do the park is closed.
I'll be back, some time in the next 17 years.

I was in the area today, and happened to be driving past this park to see the park closed with the bushfires impacting this area significantly. I'm not sure whether this cache survived, but looks like this cache may need to be disabled until the park reopens.

A great walk. We took a direct route and encountered heaps of kangaroos and some really interesting other things on the way. Thank you!

Today was a bit of an expedition driving around the Adelaide Hills and beyond, to then around Murray Bridge, and few places in between. It began driving through Woodside on to Tungkillo to collect a few geocaches there, and then on to the river past Mannum and Mypolonga for a few scattered caches. It was then on to meet Michells&hound for her target D/T cache, and then back towards Murray Bridge to repair a few caches and find the northern area caches. Finally, I made a stop at Mount Barker on the return back to Adelaide. The day was rather nice; a little brisk and a few showers with only during the middle of the day it fell a little more harder.

A nice walk in Charleston Conservation Park targeting this oldie 09/2003 hidden cache. Not many people around here indeed. After five minutes of looking around the rocky outcrop at GZ, the cache was found. Thanks Team Jeckyl for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

23-May-19
Finished off the day with a walk around the Charleston Conservation Park and was rewarded with lots of wildlife and 2 traditionals.
Container is showing it's age, with lid starting to break up, and zip bag doesn't zip. Cache is in a nicely sheltered spot which should help keep it dry.
Thanks for the cache Team Jeckyl

As the weather was holding, I walked the extra 400m to this cache.
Spotted the few rocks hiding the cache and signed the log.
My next worry was finding my way back.
As luck would have it, the cache wasn't far from the fence-line.
The track was very soggy due to excessive rain & stock that had been through recently.
Cheers Team Jeckyl for the great location

Owl is on holidays with Eagle for a few days in Hahndorf, but for reasons beyond her comprehension her GPS failed to load caches. This was the first one to appear on their drive and in a place they had both never heard of before. A rather soggy hike later, they were wondering if they’d picked the right entrance, but hugging the fence got them there.
Eagle: ‘What are we looking for?’ Owl (trying to get more details on her GPS: ‘A cache.’ Eagle: ‘Like this one?’
Don’t know why he doesn’t like caching – he’s so good at it!
Left a TB and a favourite point for bringing them to a new scenic location.

After swapping books at the local book exchange it had started to drizzle. Gonna get wet walking back to the car in the drizzle so may as well walk on to this cache. A minute later it started belting down. Walking head down around trees grabbing a quick glimpse at the GPS turned the 400 metres into about 800. I eventually got to GZ. How is this only 1 1/2 terrain???? The rain eased enough for me to sign the log. The whole cache is very dry in its hidey hole. Dropped in a TB and turned to trudge back to the car in what would normally be classed as a monsoon! Got back to the car soaking wet, but with that satisfied smile only a cacher would know! Thanks Team Jeckyl for the adventure.

09-Aug-12
A lovely walk in a park we'd never visited before. Found the cache quickly once we got to GZ. The hike in was made more difficult by soft, muddy conditions underfoot. On the way back we met a muggle who was eliminating Cape Tulip from the conservation park. Thanks for bringing us out for a scenic bushwalk.

5th cache in a 45 km bike ride. An easy walk in from the track carrying my bike. The supposedly good, new geocaching GPS kept taking me in circles. Bust out the phone and c:geo. cache was in hands in minutes. A fun ride out as well. Deep mud and sand descents are always fun.

Wow, what a lovely spot ! And our very first travelling bug too. What a lovely turkey all the way from the USA. We will certainly find an equally lovely place for him to move onto. A little park I've never visited before today. A great place though: native orchids were in flower (Nodding, Mosquito, Donkey) along with other wild flowers, even a carpet of One O'clocks ; kangaroos, birds, and my first snake of the summer.

A hidden gem. Thanks Team Jeckyl for bringing me here.

A pleasant walk in a delightful little park that we didn’t even know existed.
We did this one on the way home after finding four-fun’s four caches on the Federation Trail and were glad we did the walk up to the Rise when we had a goal in mind and had an easy walk back to the car!
