Nerang Qld
The Maid of Sker was built in 1884 in Brisbane and is one of a number of paddle steamers that worked the Nerang River carrying cargo between Brisbane, Southport and Nerang up until 1930. In 1930 the Maid was stripped of all superstructure and used as a gravel barge at Southport, later to be left unused at the gravel depot on the Brisbane River. In 1974 she was towed to the Southport Broadwater and lay there for two years until interest from groups and individuals arranged for the hull to be moved back to Nerang, Idea this time by truck and restoration was completed in 1981. The Maid of Sker now sits as the star attraction in Bishoff Park. Very Happy
