We were caching in the Castra Falls area south of Ulverstone in Tassie. It is a lovely yet rugged area with very rough tracks. The landscape is dominated by dolerite rock outcrops which are largely covered by moss, little else. To our amazement we came across quite a large tree growing defiantly on a moss covered rock outcrop. From what we could see, the roots had penetrated a crack in the outcrop and were sufficient to allow this tree, not only to grow, but flourish. Apart from the moss, nothing else with a root system grew in the immediate area showing that this tree had defied the odds. A photo of the tree has been added to the Gallery.
