Description
Once upon a time surveyors marked trees with the "Ordnance Survey" arrow and carved their registration marks below.
Simon (from team Maps) and I have been remapping roads in this area for Hema Maps. Big flash air-conditioned 4WD, Laptops, DGPS, software etc, etc. As we enjoyed a lunch break down by the river I saw this mark made by our predecessors, so I just had to commemorate the mappers from a different (and much tougher) era. The cache should be an easy find once you see the mark. Also if you look hard at a large stump closer to the river you can see another blaze, possibly older, certainly in worse condition. Perhaps both these marks was made by the same pioneering survey party who camped and carved their names on a tree on the opposite riverbank. If you can prove that then you earn an extra gold star.

Day 6 - and we travelled down from Broken Hill to Wentworth via Menindee. A good fun drive to collect this one.
Thanks Alex !! Really interesting location.
Goulburn to Forbes, Nyngen, Cobar, Broken Hill, Wentworth and Balranald. Having spent two great days in Broken
Hill, it was time to move on. We headed to Wentworth, but went via Menindee. It was a bit odd seeing
Lake Menindee completely empty, and Lake Pammeroo over full, BOM says 116% ! The country is showing a bit of
green, but it feels very dry.
It is amazing to see a mark from so far back in western history of this area.
Thanks

Menindee is a very pleasant spot, especially with all the water in the lakes.
I was tagging along with Skippy for the weekend in his trusty Patrol.
He probably will not log this cache as he doesn't 'do' GCA caches.
Seriously, don't do what I did and wander onto a meat ant nest then look down whimsically at your feet and say, "hang on, something's wrong. Why are there are holes in this dirt mound....?" It was the quick thinking of my mates screaming at me that saved my legs from a ridiculous and painful fate.
Found whilst on my way home from the Simpson Desert. Went for a drive along the river to grab this cache. A lovely area. TNLN.
In: 4hair bands.
Out: Canada key ring.
