Description
Lieutenant Colonel George Barney
From 19th May 1792 to 16th July 1862, Lieutenant Colonel George Barney lived his life. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Royal Engineers in July 1808 and served in the Peninsular war and in the West Indies, where he took part in the capture of Guadeloupe in 1815. He was promoted second captain in 1813 and captain in 1825. On 1 January 1849 Barney was appointed chief commissioner of crown lands and in October 1851 was nominated to the Legislative Council of which he had been a member briefly in 1843 as colonial engineer. On 11 October 1855 he was appointed surveyor-general in succession to Sir Thomas Mitchell. Barney died at The Priory, St Leonards, Sydney, on 16 April 1862 and was buried in St Thomas's cemetery. This cache is here to commemerate Lieutenant Colonel George Barney in his wonderfull ways of engineering. I hope that this cache could encourage cachers to look further into Barney's history and life!

The coordinates are a bit out here but the hint took me to the right place and I soon found the cache!

A tricky find today as the GPS has us 20m away from the location, but the hint was extremely useful and the geocache was soon in hand. A lovely place for a Sunday morning stroll.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks for placing this geocache here for us Victorians to find today.

In Sydney for a couple of days and found this one on a walk around the area

Thank you Crazyheads for putting the cache out and maintaining it.
Searched for a few minutes before finding the right spot and the cache was soon in hand. Now I know its been said before, but I wasn't prepared for finding a cache so didn't have a pen. Did the next best thing and took a photo of the logs sheet with my GPS. Hope that is ok. Any major issues, let me know.
Thanks crazyheads....neat little piece of history around here....with great views of the ship at the OPT.
Above coordinates may be more accurate

TNLNSL. Thanks The Crazyheads.
Thanks for the hide Crazyheads
thanks
Thanks.
Dropped bee token.
Nice little cottage right outside the bustling Circular Quay.
SL, took pathtag.

...and as I walked away, there was what seemed to be a hen's night challenge: teams had to get a random male passerby to hold a "ring", get down on one knee and pose for a "wedding proposal" photo, in front of William Bligh's statue:P
A quick and easy find while in the area. Thanks. TNSLLN
Signed log and left signature Pathtag.
Thanks for the cache.
After all the movables and gnomes it came as something of a surprise to find a trad.
Lots of people around but caching with kids means you needn't worry about being seen - I just had to sit there and look long suffering.
It would be good if you could come past with a new log some time soon.
The hide was nicely placed and in good condition.

Was here sightseeing with my American cousin and his family. Saw this was nearby and went to have a look.
TFTC.
Thanks Crazyheads!
I found the Barney Memorial very easily, and didn't need the GPSr to spot the likely hiding place.
The little cache container was in good shape and the log was dry. TNLNSL.
If you visit here, make sure you check out nearby Cadman's Cottage. I hadn't seen it for many years and it was great to inspect it again, albeit briefly.
Many thanks to The Crazyheads! This cache of theirs is a lot different from the last two I found out on Narrow Neck, in the Blue Mountains.
'Three Thumbs Up' for the great location on Circular Quay, naer The Rocks.

Caught up with family tonight, so I did not get down to Circular Quay until well after dark, which proved useful as there were no muggles around (except for a few wandering along the nearby street), and the darkness proved to be very good cover. On the other hand I had to feel more than look - which was slightly dirty work.
I nearly gave up once, luckily I went back for another look and found the treasure safe and sound in it's hidey spot. Log signed, back in place, Thanks for the nice hide and history lesson.

Report: Due to pressing time constraints I had to abandon my efforts on Hidden History #12 and make a quick grab for the day. This was my last traditional in the CBD and as usual the GPSr was near useless. So I had to follow the hint and quickly found what would otherwise be a cleverly concealed cache. Sunday was nice and quiet with not many people around and as always it was great to explore this part of the city.

VERY glad of the hint, as the cache was about 8M from where the GPSr wanted me to look.
Again, the hi-vis vest meant that no-one took any notice of me as I wndered about.
thanks.
Managed to avoid the numerous muggles to retrieve this one.
Nice to see so many logs on a GCA cache.
TFTC and the history.
Almost walked away from this cache as there was a food festival on the nearby road, but the benefits of a piglet cannot be denied.
"Are you hiding from me, I'm coming after you". And the cache was in hand.
Thanks Crazyheads. Nice little cache.
Read all about George while waiting for a group of school kids to finish their history lesson. Spied some likely spots and it was in the third one I picked. A nice place with a nice bit of history thrown in as well.
Thanks
Hunter/Finder
The cache was easily found once there was a break in the muggles.
The adjacent building the Cadmans Cottage, is also worth a look here, and of course you can wander throught he rocks.

Took sticker, ladybeetle and bead, left bell and small bag of shinies.
The log's started on the other side, but there's still plenty of room.
thanks
Had to pick up our tickets for the trip out to Fort Denison nearby so decided to try my hand at this cache. Pretty easy find considering the coords are a bit off and the place was crawling with muggles (not to mention the construction workers right next door). Nice spot and rather pertinent considering where we were heading.
Had the opportunity to leave the GPSr on the ground in a location that was above the cache and got what I hope are some better numbers but honestly you don't need them as the clue gives all the information required. Had the hidey-hole spied within seconds of arriving at the monument.
TFTC,
GPS.
P.S. Have often wondered about using that type of cache container, good to see they work.
I got a couple of GCA ones to do
Haven’t attempted this before
Now I have to look at doing some more
This one had me tripping like a clutz
If anyone saw me they’d reckon I’m nuts
City ones I have now run out
So it good to see some GCA ones about
We had tried this one the week before but a muggle was having a siesta right on top of the cache so we thought it best to leave this one for another day and today was that day.
Very nice placement, bring your lunch, and have a little nap after. The perfect lunch spot.

TFTC Interesting history!
Found within seconds! Easy find- thanks for the history!
TNLNSL TFTC --
After about 10 young men had peed on the wall it was time for me to look for the cache - blechh - anyway thankfully I went straight to it - touching nothing but the container.
And to my astonishment I was the first to find! Philma must be on holidays...
Took nothing left an American quarter - have just realised I wrote dime in the log - oh well an American coin.
Thanks for the hunt and the history lesson in a spot that I always love to visit. Good one Crazy heads.
Cheers
