Description

Come and see how Peter lived. What an interesting home. Did any of your family live like this a lingtime ago?

In need of a public convenience after a long drive I happend to find this unusual house. It ended up being a very pleasant place to take a break and have a rest.

If you find this virtual cache please take a photo of the humpy with your GPS in the photo. If you don't have a camera to catch the moment please prove you found this 'cache' by telling me the word that is shown in brackets () on th sign you will find inside the humpy that tells you the name for a type of wild fruit.

After spending a few days in Gawler it was time for to drive my mums (well my car now) from Gawler back to Perth. This was day one travelling from Gawler to Streaky Bay on a 5 day 3,100km adventure.
And there are hundreds of signs saying do not drive tired so geocaching helped with that.
Found lots of caches on the trip. And now on the last leg to Streaky woohoo Very Happy
Thanks for the cache and making me get out and stretch. what an amazing little spot which i would not have seen. Thanks for bringing me here everlasting i love it. ClappingClan Minotaur

I pulled in here to find the traditional cache and this; plus visit the 'facilities'. I imagine that Peter would have liked to have had the faculties in his day so close to his humpy. So small a home. Interesting. TFTC Everlasting.

11-Aug-22
An interesting piece of local history. The door was locked so unable to get inside. Only able to take some pictures and a picture of the GPS

A stinker today, and we wilted out of the airconditioned car only to marvel that it must be at least 10deg hotter under that rusty roof. Thanks Everlasting.

30-Dec-12
Boy was it warm now so we parked the car in the shade and walked over to GZ. Photos snapped and then the other cache was found. The icon had been hidden under this one.

We really enjoyed this spot, and spent some time wandering around and looking at everything. Sadly, the museum was closed, and we couldn't see any signs about when it might open, so we missed out on that.

Peter's Humpy was certainly a very basic dwelling but we have seen a number like this in the rugged West Coast area of Tasmania - guess thay they exist in many other places. TFTC KlanMak

What a great little park and museum, with a good deal of information which made interesting reading. Stopped here for lunch on our way through from Nullarbor Roadhouse to Port Augusta.

11-Jul-09
Stopped here for our lunch on a trip to Kalgoorlie and then onto Darwin.
It was interesting to see that the dwelling had been placed there as a display. It was good to revisit Poochera as it had been many years since we carted grain to the silos. Thanks Danielle.

Another reason to belong to the Geocaching fraternity.
Many years ago in a former(farmer) life we carted all of our grain to the "new" silo's at Poochera. We played football there and stopped for the dance afterward. But did I ever see Peters Humpy?? Sadly not.
Maybe next trip there. Good one and thanks. M.

WanderingAus wandered by on day 176 of a 6 month trip Wandering Australia and discovered a very interesting place. We've travelled through the Eyre Peninsula seven times before now and never knew about this spot. Unfortunately it was getting late in the day and we were still hunting a place to spend the night so we couldn't spend much time looking, so it's now on the list for another trip.

My find No 1076, T photo for the find, L footprints - in the photo the GPS is sitting on the top left corner of the sign Recommended* *Overall Experience: 3*

Hi Everlasting, i hope you know me well enough to trust me on this one. Camped at the caravan park on the 26th and walked up to the humpy the next morning. We used a Samsung phone to take the picture only to discover that the laptop we are using dosnt support the software to get the pics from it..DOH!.
An excellent example of how hard some people did it..but he lived to a ripe old age never the less.!
