Description
A cache at the end of the new Horsetail Falls walkway.
The Horsetail Falls Track, built near the foothills of Mt Owen, has been completed and is now open for everyone to enjoy.
The Horsetail Falls Track was part of the much-lauded $2.47 million West Coast rescue package announced by the State Government in March 2015 in response to the closure of the Mt Lyell mine in 2014.
But its construction was hit by delays when the Queenstown company responsible for labour went into liquidation in 2015 and then again last year because of “extreme flooding” during winter.
Having seen the track being worked on the last few times I have been working in the West Coast it was great at long last to see it finished and open to the public, so I have placed a cache at the end of the track for you to find.

The cache is a small camo'd sistema container, please use the hint if muggles are around and rehide well.

I was tempted to ascend the hill and go for the trig point, but was talked out of it
Budge and I enjoyed this walk today
Got to the lookout and there were two groups viewing the falls
One left just prior to our ultimate arrival; the other pair we talked to
They were from Launceston and knew about caching
The cache was Sainted quickly at 1330 hours
TFTC and cheers

This one was on our to do list and the weather was perfect. A beautiful hot, clear day and no wind.
The new walkway was impressive and with Mr T's helping hand Mrs W made it to the end. Only a trickle of water today.
A quick find in between muggles, cache and contents in good condition.
Thanks SSR for bringing us here and for the cache.
Cheers,
The Hancock Clan
A lovely sunny day forecast so off to the west once again.
My main goal was to climb East Jukes, so having completed the climb it was back up to the walkway to replace the cache.
The new coords are
S42 04.756
E145 35.500
Coord accuracy was down to 1.8m...with over 400 averaged pts. Elevation here is 497m.
After last weeks rain the falls were living up to its name...quite a good flow today.
Views again were awesome with not a cloud to be seen.
Many thanks for an awesome spot...cheers ST.
My next few weekends are booked already so if anyone is out there before me please replace it. In the meantime i'll make a spare and try and find the time to get out it it.
Great new walkway which looks as if it follows the old walking track to Mt Owen summit.
At gz the gps and hint agreed but try as I might no go? I crawled underneath to said spot to find a flat thin rock...but no cache in sight. I rang 2y'stassies and sure I was in the right spot...middle beam under the lookout landing??
Have attached a photo...btw I had absolutely nothing to replace it with...which is unusual for me...otherwise would of taken a cache back in.
Many thanks...the views are fantastic...I will be back at some stage....cheers ST.
On a previous visit we noticed the markings of further development so looking forward to seeing the track go further one day, then we have an excuse to come back. Will there then be room (and reason) for another cache? - maybe
A great place stainless steel rat. Thanks for hiding a cache here
The wind was blowing a gale but it was not raining. We had just reached the walkway when there was a lightning flash followed by a loud clap of thunder. We looked at one another - the look said lets make it quick so up we went with the wind pushing us towards the rock wall at the edge of the walkway. It started to rain and just as we reached the end platform hail started to whip up the gully.
Luckily the accurate coordinates and the good hint enabled us to make a quick find of the well hidden cache. We were pleased to see that this log book was also blank giving us another {FTF} at 11:40. Even though water was cascading down the rocks above us the cache container and contents were in excellent condition. We managed to sign the log book without too much hail landing on it and safely tucked it away again.
Thanks for the cache Stainless-Steel-Rat this area certainly deserves a cache. Even though there was thunder, lightning and hail all the way up and back we enjoyed the walk and the view of the falls. As with the previous cache the weather kept the tourist muggles away.
