Description

Take a photo of Huntsman Spider inside a house

We have lived in the same house for over 50 years and we have regularly seen a huntsman spider inside the house.

We only ever see it just before it is due to rain. We call it Fred and look upon  it as a weather forecaster. It’s never been known to be wrong. Of course, over the years there have probably been quite a few generations of Fred, but we have only ever seen one at a time, giving belief to the legend, just like the many generations of The Phantom, Ghost who walks.

In fact the latest version of Fred was considerably smaller that its ancestors, but then it didn’t rain very much after it’s appearance. Where it goes to in between times I’ve no idea, but I like to think it keeps other insect pests under control in the meantime.

I don’t need a photo of you, or your GPS, especially if you’re arachnophobic, but would love a note added to your log afterwards telling me if it did actually rain following the appearance of your Huntsman.

CONGRATULATIONS TO SEEBREEZEOZ FOR AN AMAZINGLY QUICK FTF, looking forward to seeing if it rains a lot soon at Walpole

In line with amendments made to requirements for listing and finding a Locationess geocache, this geocache has been reviewed and found not be in line with the listing requirements.

https://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/Locationless_cache
Armchair style Locationless caches where the finder is not required to explore the real world, identify a location and accompany the "Find" with photographic evidence are no longer accepted.
A Locationless cache listing must require the finder to locate an object or perform a task in the real world, collect the co-ordinates and log the find with accompanying photographic evidence.

The geocaching community would like to thank you for listing this Locationess geocache and congratulations to all that found this locationless geocache.

As the geocache no longer meets the requirements we will archive the cache listing.

It’s a long time since we have seen ‘Fred’ our huntsman inside the house.
We’ve lived in the same house for 55 years and we’ve always called our huntsman Fred.
Of course it’s like grandad’s axe that has had many new handles and a couple of new heads but always referred to as grandad’s axe.
After the prolonged dry spell it is no wonder Fred has been missing. But he has been on the wall in various rooms for the last few days, yet the forecast is for no rain in the foreseeable future. Maybe he’s just come out for a drink! However we are hoping he will bring much needed precipitation

Woke to find this fellow in the bedroom this morning, directly above the bed, on the ceiling, in Hadspen, Tasmania
Not at all surprised to see him as rain had been forecast.
It was only a little fellow and not very photogenic.
Sure enough we opened the curtains and it was raining outside.
This won’t affect our holiday plans as it is movie day today.
Good luck seeing him, got my daily GA cache without getting out of bed.

It’s so incredibly dry here in the Lockyer Valley we hope it’s a good sign. Very Happy

Knew it was just a matter of time before we got to log this. Confused A huntsman in the house is a small price to pay for rain but hard to ignore when it's on the ceiling positioned directly over your pillow when you're about to go to bed. Rolling Eyes So armed with the broom relocation began but this was a really touchy spider. It leapt off the broom and disappeared. Shocked Knowing there's a spider hovering over your bed is one thing, knowing there's one but you don't know where is another. Finally spotted it ready for takeoff on my pillow. It was looking highly likely this bed wasn't going to be slept in but eventually managed to get it out the back door, not before it jumped off the pillow leg of the trip then numerous times off the broom.

This is a huntsman in our kitchen - I don’t fear spiders st all hence you can see my finger in the photo pointing to the spider. For the record it did rain after I had spied this huntsman spider. I will take more notice of the appearance of spiders and the forthcoming rains!! TFTC CybergranV

This little fella was just roaming along making himself at home.

Picked him up with a little paper and put him back in the garden.

Rather small version.

At the holiday house we've had a couple in the past nearly as big as your hand.

See if I can snap that too.

TFTL Very Happy

Went to enter my house today and there was a huntsman waiting to come in. I had the phone and GPSr in hand as had been finding and hiding moveables, so a quick photo and then picked him up and placed in the garden. No coords as my door but found in Sandford, Tasmania. It was trying to rain today and there was a slight dusting of snow on Mt Wellington but didn't come to anything. TFTL

The last time we saw Fred was a while ago, he was very tiny then and we didn’t get much rain. Today he appeared again, and is still small, maybe we might get another wee drop in a few days time.
Looking forward to other sightings from various places, and if any rain follows these sightings.
