Description

B u r l e i g h      H e a d s

Please note: Multigrip Pliers may be required to open this cache!

Burleigh Heads' surf break attracts surfers from the Gold Coast and beyond. At the headland of Burleigh, locally known as "The Point", barbecues and cricket matches are held, and spectators can watch the surfers. On Sunday afternoons, local musicians and fire-twirlers often come out to the park beside Burleigh SLSC for a jam and dance session.

Burleigh is like the Byron Bay of Queensland. A little bit quirky, hip and trendy, and with lots of good food to eat.

The area of Burleigh Head was formed between 20 and 23 million years ago from molten lava due to numerous eruptions of Mount Warning. Flowing lava reached the shore in the area to form Burleigh headland and Point Danger. There's an Earthcache to celebrate this fact, if that's your thing. (Well nowdays there's an Earthcache in every bloody council gravel quarry.)

Burleigh could well be The Gateway to Adventure. There are some beautiful parks just inland, perfect to have a Teddy Bear's Picnic. Just mind the trolls.

The cache is designed to blend in to its surroundings and is hidden in plain sight. Due to the nature of how the container is constructed, there's only room for a pencil and a logsheet. There is information recorded on the cache container that will assist you in finding the Gold Coast Beaches GeoTour Challege Cache. (If only it was an EarthCache)

Woohoo hoo first one from 3 of this series I actually found and thanks to the TOTT on site I was able to access it and log it.
thanks for this trail I am enjoying it heaps although there are lots of tourists and a wariness of Corona Virus but all in all I had a good day CoolCool

Wandering to GZ I couldn't help but notice the number of people walking here with their phone in hand hanging by their side like a water bottle. When I pulled out my pen to sign the log it got me to thinking, I wonder how long it will be before pulling a pen out in public will look suspicious ace draw people's attention. haha.
Found the cache nice and easy.

Of the beaches in the Geotour today, and we rode past them all, this was the most popular. Even on the return ride late in the afternoon Burleigh was still as busy as ever. How lucky the cache was at a well chosen quieter spot.... actually totally quiet. Shocked One thing that gives Burleigh the edge over the other beaches - it has a national park with superb ocean views.... And how that bit of land managed to not get snapped up for housing years ago must be the miracle of Burleigh. Very Happy TFTC MattyRx.

Lots of interesting stuff to see on our walk to the cache, fairy wrens flitting in and out of the bush, lifesavers who have decorated their lifeguard tower with Christmas decorations, an adolescent butcher bird, lots of mobikes, and finally the cache. I took Max down the beach and while we looked at Burleigh Headland I told him the story about Jabreen, the Aboriginal creator spirit who one day ate too much bush honey, he sat at the waters edge to wash off the sticky nector from his fingers and then he settled down for a nap. When we woke he stood up and stretched, creating the Burleigh Headland. They say you can still see his giant rocky fingers stretching out from the headland.

Thanks for the cache.

Tallebudgera done and dusted, now it was time to find the Gold Coast Beaches cache on the other side of Jellurgal. Once again an overcast day played to our advantage. Normally this stretch of the Esplanade is chockers on the weekend with and abundance of groups and families enjoying the area.

We grabbed a park in the carpark between 3rd and 4th Ave, plenty of available space, and walked further north to where the cache was. I admit this has been one of the few of these caches that I have used my GPS on. I knew it was within one of the walkways to the beach, but exactly which one. We had plenty of fairy wrens entertaining us on our journey either by the males showing off their blue and black plumage or singing from their hiding spots amongst the brush.

Thanks for the cache.
