Description

Title

So many names for this spot - Doug Jennings Park, Moondarewa Spit or the Spit Finger - take your pick. It wasn't long ago that this little strip of land had just a single lane weathered road, but in 2016 Gold Coast Waterways closed the area and spent two million dollars beautifying the area. This once quiet spot is now very popular. A great spot for a swim, a fish, or just to laze under a tree.

This cache is easily retrieved by road or water. Drive all the way till you cant drive anymore - and the cache be yours.

By boat, hoist your mainbrace and sail for the listed coordinates. Way anchor before you hit the sand then walk your plank till you hit dry land. The cache is only 10 meters away.

I spent a week in Surfers and really needed the sunshine, on our last day before the trip back to Coolangatta, we came for a drive up to the spit finger to see what was going on, we could see out accommodation across the water and Sea World nearby.

This was a fun cache to do - I love when they are in your face but only to a geocacher. I found a few nearby GC caches and I took the opportunity while here to also leave some GCA movables.

Out grabbing some caches in the area and thought we’d come here to check it out. A lovely sunny day but wind has a slight chill to it.
Seems some are enjoying water activities
An easy find

A windy day with occasional bouts of rain, perfect day for finding caches in areas normally muggle central. We found the cache just fine, moved away from GZ to sign the log then return. I must admit I wondered why the pencil did not want to stay in the container when I returned the inner component but saw that the log sheet curled itself against the edges. Its ok I thought, although I was thinking about lunch and were to go, seeing that an outdoor picnic was out of the question and even the suggestion of Fish and Chips at Peter's was negligible since the wind was likely to blow off the salt. Still the kidney's were telling me it was a cold day and having taken the opportunity to visit the facilities up near the kiosk realised I still had the bottom cap in my pocket - so that's why the pencil didn't stay in.

Headed back to Ground Zero, this time two sets of dog walkers, two kids on bikes plus parent, and a couple in the car enjoying the view were all around or near Ground Zero. Fell back to my waiting strategy - look at the channel marker, look at the island, look at a couple of wind surfers on the Broadwater - come on... people its cold, its windy, get back on your bikes and head that way. Eventually they left or had turned themselves into a position enough for me to retrieve, recap and replace. Whew! Unfortunately, I am not sure what had happened to the pencil, although it was quite weather affected and no longer working.

Thanks for the cache.

We found another one of your clever caches MrRX. There was hardly anyone around because it was so windy. In fact it was so windy it blew me off the bollard I was sitting on and I landed in the prickle patch below. Sad

Doesn't matter, Suzy picked off the prickles and took me to Max Brenner's for Hot Chocolate. I think I could tolerate more prickles for Max Brenner's.

Thank you for the cache.

Out on a superb Autumn day doing some caches around the spit and Main Beach. Came out to this one and the place was really quiet, beach to ourselves and an empty GZ to cache in. Thanks for bringing us here MattyRx

Now how did we manage to overlook this cache for so long ?? Maybe we weren't zoomed in enough and it was hiding under the moveable forever listed on Wavebreak Island. But today we saw it (as well as the new evil puzzle at Tugun) Confused and on our last day at the GC came to look for it.

It wasn't so long ago this was sand rut heaven to hoons. It was also an amazing spot to stop, survive and revive for the night in your camper but we're not admitting to anything, especially not the beautiful night light views as the sun set across the water. Wink

As far as getting the quietest spot on the GC goes, this end of the Spit could be it.... that's not saying there were plenty of parks, there wasn't, we had to wait for someone to leave. But though there were some sun bakers and a few swimmers there weren't as many people as cars. And this cache was cleverly placed so you could perch till the time was right to grab it. {FTF} at 12.56pm. TFTC MattyRx.
