Description

I was driving along the border track when I came to a rather unexpected bend in the road...

I have no idea why the border has this strange little bend here. It appears on Google Maps and OSM to. If anyone know the history as to why this kink is here, let us know! There is another smaller one a bit over 10km to the north to.

Although despite what Google Maps says, the cache is hidden on the SA side of the fence!

Logs

14-May-21
Three days ago we decided to go west to Remark and spend 2 days caching the On Ya Bike series. After this we would head east again and continue on our preplanned route.

Mrs Y'stassie has been watching this cache since it was published over 2 years ago. She held little hope of looking for it as our 2WD Kia is not made for these Dry Weather Only roads particularly if they are very sandy. After managing the tracks around the Paddle Steamer series without any problem she suggested we take a look at the road with the bend and just maybe we could get close enough for her to walk to GZ. To her surprise the number 1 driver agreed as long as we got back to Mildura by lunch.

When we turned off the highway we were 18km from our goal. To our surprise this road was sealed and we were only 8km from the cache when we turned onto Bendy Corner road which is unsealed and sandy. We found a nice solid place to park while Mrs Y'stassie headed off to GZ. When she arrived she performed her usual circuit if the site identifying possible hides. The hunt began in earnest. She stumped here and she stumped there. When she had stumped everywhere without finding this elusive cache she stood back and surveyed the site. Knowing the CO she felt sure the coordinates would be accurate so she was reluctant to expand her search.
just then her caching partner appeared. While he searched the objects she had already looked at she became aware that her search may have focused on the wrong object. She couldn't remember the hint but felt she had missed something. As she focused on another object she slipped and found herself eye to eye with a cache container. Her GPS was reading 1m.

We were delighted to find a pristine log sheet giving us a {FTF} at 11:45. After signing the log we put the cache container back in its secure hide.

Thanks for a great cache Laighside Legends. It has been a while since we have had a Laighside FTF. Guess we didn't make it back to Mildura for lunch but a caching adventure sure beats lunch. We didn't have a good look around the Bend in the border road so have no idea why its there.
