Description

Inspired by the self isolation imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, here is a cache you can find from home.

Like it or loathe it, the humble mint tin is the backbone of urban geocaching. To log this cache, you will need to post a photo of you finding a mint tin somewhere around your home. To be valid, the photo must include a mint tin and at least part of your body.

This cache can only be logged once, but in your log you are welcome to post as many photos as you like.

Tip: Displaying Photos In Your Log
Geocaching Australia logs present a little differently to those you may be used to. The default is for you to need to view any uploaded photos by clicking the camera icon at the top right of each log entry. The following steps will enable your photos to be displayed directly in your log:

  1. Create your log and upload any images with it
  2. In your posted entry, click on the far right camera icon (view gallery)
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see your thumbnail images and click on one to open a pop up image with the title and (click for details) underneath
  4. Follow the click for details link
  5. You now have 5 choices of code for embedding the image
  6. Copy the code for the second option: Cache/Web pages (HTML thumbnail with link) and return all the way back to the cache page
  7. Paste the code into your log by choosing the pencil icon (edit log)

Locationless Cache Wiki Information
Armchair style Locationless caches where the finder is not required to explore the real world, identify a location and accompany the 'Find' with photographic evidence are no longer accepted.
A Locationless cache listing must require the finder to locate an object or perform a task in the real world, collect the co-ordinates and log the find with accompanying photographic evidence.
The geocaching community would like to thank you for listing this Locationess geocache and congratulations to all that found this locationless geocache.
As the geocache no longer meets the requirements we will archive the cache listing.

I usually have one or lying around.

Mainly as cache replacements for one of my particuliar caches.

Much to some peoples annoyance Mr. Green

I find the spot gets muggled from time to time and this size fits the replacement.

I think everyone would have a mint tin at home for one reason or another

03-Jul-20
Think we well and truly qualify for this one. We have about 35 mint tins in this cache container. We had it ready to put out but another cacher beat us to it with the same idea. They even called it Mint Tin Revenge which is what we were going to call ours.
So we didn't put it out and then COVID happened and we still haven't got round to dealing with it.
Maybe this weekend.
Thanks.

I have many of these. About 100.

Yes, that is also the case in France and it is essential both during geocaching trips and in cars!

Sitting back on lockdown for Covid and filling in time with Puzzles and locationless caches.
This one was a bonus with a short walk around the yard to make a find.
This sneaky one was camo'd and hiding in the usual place, behind some bark. Wink
Thanks for the brain exercise and the cache Mister Doctor,
Roostaman.

Well this gives away which ones are my favourite mints. Looks like I have some camo'ing to do on these nine 'babies'

I will admit I own a few 'out in the field' and took on a few more when I adopted about 55 geocaches

Like most seasoned geocachers, I'm not a fan of mint tins. That said, I'll admit to having a couple in my kit bag ... for emergency use! Here's one of them ... somebody used it as a throw-down when they couldn't find a cache that was there all the time, so I souvenired it to reuse somewhere else ... but a year or so later, it's still in my bag!

Taped few Eclipse tins and plan to hide them but end up stored in a garage for a long time. Will hide them when CoViD19 finish.
I'm a Laaaaaaaady, duh!

Some special mint tins bought for some "special" mates. One of the grumps has already released a cache in one. It lurks somewhere in Sydney ready to disappoint unsuspecting finders.
Thanks Mister Doctor

What is the world coming to!? Soo many things I could be doing with my #StayAtHome time, but I am using it to look for a mint tin Rolling Eyes Well, at least I found one. This one I think belongs to one of my sons. I found it on a little shelf at the top of our stairs near the bathroom.

"Don't leave home without it." No - it's not an Amex card, it's a mint tin. I never know when I'll need to do an emergency cache hide or maybe a spot of maintenance.

Being a fan of creative upcycling I have always been pro the humble mint tin cache (and it’s cousins - the op shop Tupperware and hard to find film canisters). Happened to be travelling with this little guy in the car today. Winner! Very Happy

I was a bit disappointed to only be able to find one mint tin in the car, and then my son said he didn't have any old ones lying around. So I had a look in my bit geocaching box-of-bits. And found another 14 mint tins. Very Happy One tin still had mints in it ... from maybe a few years ago. So those mints are now in the bin. This cache leading to my geo-box has also reminded me that I have lots of items that I can used to make caches, with various loot to put inside them. But I never got around to hiding many caches, and haven't hidden any new ones for a couple of years. And now is probably not the best time to be crating new cache hides. Crying or Very sad Thanks for the tips on how to post images directly into logs - I will try that Very Happy and in any case will add my 'Tin Henge' pic into the gallery as well as one with my ugly mug and cacher name. GCA 2,834. Another neat locationless to keep us busy during these trying times.

I was at an event a few months ago and a fellow cacher wanted to get rid of some containers. I happily grabbed the Ammo Can on offer - and found it to be full of mint tins ! The only decision I have is will this make up one future cache or 30 ??

TFTC !!

I knew I had a mint tin somewhere in the house but I couldn’t find it. I went to bed and there it was on my bedside table. TFTC and keeping us busy while we can’t go out caching

We're in the minority of geocachers who appreciate the versatile mint tin. Until something else comes along that can camo like a chameleon, attach simply with a magnet, fit the sneaky little hides and are cheap, not to mention you get to eat the contents, these little metal tins have got the small tin monopoly. Yeah, so sometimes the log gets stuck or someone puts in a plastic soldier but if that's the biggest problem you're going to encounter all day, life's a breeze. I don't think we've been without an eclipse tin since we started caching but I was blown away with what I found in the garden... Wink

I have many Eclipse tins painted black and most with a force attached and this little lot is just waiting. The Eclipse tin family our for a walk today and little miss green is way too far behind. TFTL Clan MinotaurVery HappyClappingDancingClan Minotaur

Mrs y'tassie's handbag is like a Tardis - small on the outside but seemingly it can contain nearly all her "important" stuff on the inside. It is an area to be explored only with great trepidation and finding anything . . . well, allocate plenty of time and be prepared to repeat the search as things can get hidden both within and behind and under other things. We thought that there might be a mint tin in there and after some time (and some detours with comments like "didn't know that that was in there" and "I have been looking for that for ages"), a half filled mint tin was located. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. Thanks Mister Doctor for the cache. We are currently in quarantine and going to on-line shopping for a tin of mints seems a tad excessive - now we will have fresh breath again after the discovery.

Loving all these logs - for better or worse, mint tins and geocaching just seem to go together!

Don’t forget that you can add your photo to your log entry. See above for instructions.

Here's a mint tin that I spray-painted yellow!
It was going to be placed somewhere in particular, but proximity issues ruled it out.
Ever since, it's been sitting in my room waiting for the day that I stumble across somewhere else suitable.
Thanks to Mister Doctor for the locationless!

Didn't need to go far to find this one. Right at (in) my computer desk drawer. Certainly smells better than some I've found in the wild...

Thanks Mister Doctor....the first of few Locationless for the month.

We saw this pop up on Facebook this morning. Had a hunt high and low but not a mint tin in sight. Had to head out to do some supermarket shopping so purchased a tin of mints. The things we do when we cannot get out!
So here is the mint tin in a safe place when I located it in my “office”

After searching for what seemed ages for a mint tin one was found in the rapidly dwindling stash or toilet paper. Thanks for the idea while stuck at home with the kids.

What a great idea, thanks Peter!! As it happens, it’s my birthday today and all I wanted to do was go caching... but of course I can’t!! You have made my day today... who would have thought I would be so happy as to find a mint tin!

It was lucky that I happen to have a full tin of mints in my car! In light of the time, I thought it appropriate to share my find with my contribution to Australia’s Bear Hunt. I’m not sure about you, but around my local area it has been great to see how many families are participating in the bear hunt around the local area.

For those who are not sure what the bear hunt is all about...Children across Melbourne are placing teddy bears in their front windows in a nod to the much-loved 1989 children's book, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. The movement is adding smiles to the faces of little ones as they go for walks to beat the boredom of isolation during the coronavirus pandemic.

I picked uo this mint tin at Melbourne Zoo a few years ago. I had planned to use it as part of my GC "Bird" series somehow.
This Mint Tin of the Orange-Bellied Parrot was released as part of an endangered Fighting Extinction series.
I wont be painting this one black!

Photo with our Trip Mascot and TB "Bowra" on the back verandah. No trips for Bowra in the near future.

How convieniant to have a mint tin handy in the kitchen ,thank you for your cache
