Description
Upwards and on Wards
Surge Upwards
During the "Moving Cache Race Game" "Surge Upwards" moves a total of 2013km with 17finds and moves. It was muggled and sprang back to life. Our thanks to all those that moved it, looked after it and sought it out.Started its life, nestled on the verge on the University of Melbourne’s Engineering precinct, and is the Solomonfamily’s first moveable cache, our entrant into the 2009 GCA Movable Cache Race.
Rather like a TB our cache has a goal ; it wants to fly high and long throughout Australia, firstly to be a place getter in the race but also to see our fine land and visit and other engineering marvels around the country.
Logs
This cache looks to be MIA. To save it turning up on the lists we'll archive it. If it's resurrected the owner can activate it by placing an "Unarchived" log against it.
The last of three moveables I acquired in an impromptu swap meet by the side of the road. I'll try to spread them about the city a little bit more than my usual track takes me (work-home-work-home....).
Last seen with Billy and Simon heading off towards fourw.
We were unsure about finding this cache as our GPS had us in the middle of the grassed area. However after an extensive search of all metal poles Mrs y'stassie finally yelled "found it" as Mr y'stassie was preparing to leave. We will take this one with us before putting it out again.
Discovered in the hands of Felix at the OzMegga 2014 Event in Murray Bridge.

We found this cache in the hands of FelixII who have recently arrived in SA heading for the OzMEGA.
Who knows where it will be going from there?
Many thanks for the moveable Solomonfamily

Found this cache by accident today in our letterbox cache. Time for it to move along. Not sure where you want it to go but no room in my letterbox for it.
Heading towards Murray Bridge for the mega will try and move it somewhere between here and there unless you let us know you would prefer it somewhere else.

Have placed this one inside a FelixII letterbox cache.GC4EYNM
This cache has travelled with us on our Trip Around Australia and now that we are back home it is time for it to find a new home and more travel adventures.
If you would like to see the amazing journey this cache has been on with us you can check out the caches we visited on our travels in geocaching.com profile.
A visit to Busso today. While we were here we went to find a few caches to keep up our streak.
Parked nearby and made a nice easy find. (The way we like them, LOL!).
Wow, what a brilliant cache idea, I'm totally going to steal that one, Ha Ha Ha.
And what a magnificent park all maintained by the locals.
The kids had lots of fun filling out the log sheet, I think they would have used all the goodies if I let them Ha Ha.
Took the GC and left a TB we have been carrying all around Aust.
Also left an Extag.
OOPS, almost forgot. I also left a GCA moveable cache inside the ammo tin. GA1674. Please don't take it unless you are a GCA cacher or willing to join. Thanks.
Thanks lots FelixII for this great cache. Deserves a Fav Point for sure.
TFTC, cache #940 for us

Sorry, I have been very slack with this moveable. So just a quick update.
Recently took to a small geocaching event in Wollongong Harbour which is an Australian Engineering Landmark (See attached photos). Will be taking to another local event tonight.
May get picked up by one of the local GA cachers.

Cache is in good condition - contents are dry and safe. I was only heading 55km north from here (to the centreline of the annular solar eclipse), so I couldn't really help it surge on upwards too far! Instead, I re-placed it just a tiny step backwards to the south. Kind regards, 38degsouth -Melb, VIC
Took this cache on an adventure with us. It has visited Uluru, Kings Canyon, Alice Springs and went fossicking at Gemtree via, Charleville, Winton and Mt Isa and now rests at Three Ways. It has hat pins from places visited and a piece of apatite. Hopefully more pins will be added as it continues its journey.

Dropped off to enjoy the view of the wetlands, and not too far from the airport. Also took a photo.

Grabbed it whilst out on a pleasant lunch-time walk in 35Degrees weather.
Nice quick find, having missed it last time it passed close to Mawson Lakes.
Will move closer to the Airport in the hope it can head to a different state.

Sorry to take do long to move it. It's now enjoying the wetland of Murray Bridge
Cache is now sheltering in a shed in Aldgate.
Whoops! Forgot that this moveable cache made its way into our posession after the halloween event. We will move it on soon.
Found this cache hidden near the BBQ at a Halloween event cache. So I signed it, obviously! At one stage it may have been briefly floating in a spooky manner, on a bowl of water and dry ice. But it's quite waterproof.
TNLN - Thanks Solomonfamily!

Found It!
We parked in the nearby carpark and as we were walking down the road to the cache MtnLioness declared the cache to be on the path just down the hill - so down we scrambled only to see the cache up the top from the bottom...

We took the Surge Upwards to the Sunraysian Geocaching Dinner in Mildura, Then I took it to Adelaide, looked for a place when I was at the Adelaide Airport. No Luck. Whoever comes to collect will need to surge upwards to retrieve whichever direction they come from. Once such a busy place, now at night...such a quiet place.
Found by Roma and Max.
We had the opportunity to find and log your cache at the Sunraysia Geocaching Dinner.

Dropped off to continue it's travels.

A great drive down the dirt track to grab this cache to find oursevles very close to a spot we have been to before for a nearby cache. Quickly found, will have to find an interesting place to drop it off soon.

Passing through this area today for the first time. Thought this was a good spot for this one.
Moved on to take a look at Spotswood Pumping Station.
A gracious early 1900's machine that helped to keep the 'flow'.
Good luck.

Grabbed today from Winter swamp. What a great spot, and so different from this time last year.
I'll have this into a new location soon.

it has been a long walk from my last hide be nice to sit here by the water edge for awhile
Had to go back to moonta this morning to get a couple of caches that i had missed and this was just sitting around waiting for a move
Signed this while out on the town with Honeysucker and the crew having a nice meal at the local pub...
Surge Upwards is now hidden at the historic Moonta Mines on the Yorke Peninsula. It is hidden just behind the starting waypoint for Where's the engine?
If you're standing in the right spot, sat loc will be very limited.
Just above eye level, hiding behind a common rock.

Finally got to find this cache!!!
As a bonus, this cache marks our 1600th find overall.
I think the last time we looked for this one, the encrypted hint was no longer relevant to the hide. Today we spent far too long at the wrong spot, then after broadening the search, made an easy discovery!
We now have 2 options for re-hiding this cache. First is we move it very soon but only a short distance. Second is we hang on to it until next weekend and take it to Yorke Peninsula. Will make a decision soon.
Thanks Solomonfamily.

I checked this one 2 days ago and it still is there. Its actually in plain sight.Heres a foolproof clue. "Check the base of the poles"
Good look around and down even removed some rubbish from the drain.
I think it may be gone
I think it may be gone
I placed it at the very bottom I hope its still there I guess ill have a look when im next up there.
We took time out to have a look for this cache, again!
An area we've cached in about 4+ years ago. Despite a little shunter moving about further up the track, we spent a good 20 minutes here, trying to spot the cache from the ground. Couldn't see it, but that's not surprising, really.
I think even if I did see it, I wouldn't have attempted a retrieval anyway. I'll be working back here in a week or two, maybe I'll return here with an extension ladder.

After trying to find this one at previous hide and not succeeding I couldn't resist grabbing it here. Took it for a trek up the freeway. Should be easy to find.
Having risked life and limb retrieving Surge Upwards from the rat-infested purlons of the Hackney Bridge, decided to wreak sweet vengeance. Cache is now hidden high up within another metallic structure.

Retrieved after a string of unsuccessful attempts and a chat to the previous hider. Realised that I'd been focussing my search too narrowly and that there was a second interpretation of the clue description that required extra clambering through the bridge-struts to retrieve! And, yes, it IS disgusting up there!!! Will move the cache on some time soon. Cheers from Featherwaite.
We too followed the hint to a tee and could not spot anything. Mr Wibble climbed up and out and had a good look around, nearly giving Mrs Wibble a heart attack in the process given he was doing the climbing in bike cleats. In the end we started to wonder if we were misinterpreting the hint. We decided to leave this for another finder as we didn't want to continue risking 4+ terrain climbing on a cache that's only "officially" 1.5 star terrain!
Still there, the climb up and out is disgusting, but quite an adrenaline rush. It is still in plain view from the bike path but I'm happy to help anyone who is struggling to see it.
Very dissapointed to not find this one. We spent quite a while here, and followed the hint to a tee. I even done a bit of climbing to get a better view of the hiding spot. After broadening our search, we simply decided that someone else must have already moved it on.

We will be staying just around the corner from this cache, on Melbourne Street, tomorrow night. Will see if we can be the next to move it along.
Moved to a place close by I've been meaning to hide a cache at until I realized that Have a Shot at this was so close by.
This placement is a little more difficult to get to that the previous locations and probably deserves !!!! at least 4 stars of Terrain!!!
It shouldn't be too hard to see from the southern path
The coordinates aren't prefect so if you need some help see the hint

Found quickly without a GPS during lunch today, I was able to treat me sadistic side with the new hide
After performing a GC rescue from tb-rescue.com I headed down to the Torrens to admire some new engineering handywork. A new curved bridge not yet shown on Google Maps! Nice!
G1 (Mike) from Green Gecko Gang happens to sit next to Trigg-A-Nomics and spotted it on his whiteboard. G2 (Bindi) also works in same office, and as we are both engineers it was logged with our qualifications. Left to Trigg-A-Nomics to move it on. TFTC!
This cache is currently attached to my whiteboard at work. Our project employs roughly 100 engineers and a pair of fellow geocaching engineers will pick it up shortly!
A perfect cache for an engineer! Found it after expanding my search the second time, there were just so many of those damn seats!
The new Adelaide Zoo extension is a great bit of Architectural and Engineering Art. I'm a big fan of functional art and they've done this extension very well!

A lovely afternoon for sitting outside the zoo, or so a large number of muggles thought! I waited until they almost all cleared out and then made a quick search but couldn't come up with the goods. I'll have another look tomorrow morning.

My kids wanted to go to the zoo, so I took Surge with me. The new entrance is so different from the old. Very modern. Finding a carpark was a huge issue. Pandas! Puh! Who cares? You'll need to take care about when you look for this, as it can be busy at times. I hid it towards the end of the day and it was pretty quiet.
So ... Surge is again in my hands ... last time it sat a long time where I left it so this time I'll try to place it in a spot that is likely to get it moved soon.

Would you believe I found this on the way home from the Wagga Wagga Mega event. After dropping off one of our travelling companions we came down this road on the way to home and I finally was able to stop and find the cache. Yay!

Wanted this to move quickly so head up to where the Victor Harbor - Mt Compass & Goolwa - Mt Compass roads meet. Hopefully someone heading back to Adelaide will grab soon and move on again.
Picked on way home from work.
This is my first GCA movable cache so I am pretty excited to get a chance to move it along to it's next destination.

Sorry, Mobility Stealth was taken back to Adelaide at the end of the event, but the 'find' hasn't been logged yet.
It would be great if we could have a photo with Mobility Stealth as they are both in the same area
Hidden at 'Another Day at the Seaside' event
Raced out to grab a few moving caches that we hadn't yet been able to get our hands on. Couldn't find much in the way of hiding spots for six caches. Returned home empty handed to find more logs - obviously this was grabbed pretty much after it was hidden, and was long gone before we got there.
Grabbed this one after the cache party. Now to move it where it was be easily picked up for the next cache party.

After picking up this and two other caches from the Black Bunny Melbourne long distance road trip haul, I took them all home for a moveable cache impromptu party!
It's like a cache event but without all the cachers!
Yes, there were six of them! Crystal Warrior had been busy too picking up three during the day.
Another milestone? The number of moveable caches coming together in once place during the race? Let's see if that record gets broken?
Anyway, now to put out for Crystal Warrior to pick up.....

We have just heard from the previous hider that the container is no longer where they left it!
We would hope that it has been moved on as intended, but as it has not appeared elsewhere since then, we fear for its existence now.
