Description

One of the best locations in Southern NSW - on top of Corang Peak.

This virtual replaces a geocache that once sat here named Time (GC8C7A).

Looking at Pidgeon Hut from Corang Peak.
The view from the top of Corang Peak.

It is a 20 kilometre return walk over a relatively flat grade.

You can make this an overnight walk by camping in the valley north of Corang Arch, or add another day by spending the next night at Corang Llagoon and rapids.

On a clear day, the peak provides outstanding views of Morton National Park. On a rainy, windy day ... it's not much fun. There is some lovely wilderness to seem along the way.

To log this cache you must include a photo of yourself with the cairn or view in the background.

What an epic walk again this weekend. The arch was one of or goals and certainly one of the highlights of the trip. We camped at Wog Wog Friday night and left for the walk early Saturday morning. Started with a whopping -4 degrees, but it turned into a very nice mild day. Covered a lot of terrain and went over Corang Peak to log this cache. Spent some time exploring and making pictures before resuming and setting up camp at the caves. Once the heavy packs were dropped we still resumed to Yurnda lookout and some other features in the area before spending a very nice night at the campfire. Sunday we did the 14 km return walk via the cascades.

Heading out to the arch I couldnt resist taking the left trail and checking out the views from the top of Corang peak.
It was absolutely spectacular 360° view.
From here I walked to the arch for lunch before returning back to Wog Wog campsite taking me approx 7 hours walk then the drive back home.
It sure is a special place out here,Im heading back again next weekend to visit the cascades

Out for an Easter long weekend bushwalk with old friends (AB and Big Mick B) and my oldest son, Jono. We'd hiked in from Wog Wog camp ground and stopped here for lunch. We camped that night at Burrumbeet, then onto Mt Haughton for Saturday night. We finished at the Sasafrass park entrance at 4pm Sunday, where the car was a welcome sight!
The views from this location are superb. Even with the less than ideal weather it was well worth taking the high road to visit this location.
best wishes,
Wal

FTF.

Having been thwarted in a previous attempt to do the Team Chaos cache that was here (we turned around at the Admiration Point turn off so we could get back before dark) I wasn't going to let the chance go by again.

We camped at Wog Wog on Friday night. Made a start at about 8.30am on Saturday and made good pace before one of our party began to wane and we slowed down significantly. We divided the party in two and some of us made the ascent to Corang Peak while the others took the bypass track. We made it to the top, enjoyed the stunning views, took lots of photos before heading down the other side to meet the rest of the group.

We went on and spent a very wet and cold night (I slept under a tarp in a net bivy) at Canowie Brook before returning to Wog Wog via Corang River and Goodsell track. Other than the extremely scrubby track along Canowie Brook most of the walking was pretty straightforward.

I really enjoy walking in the Budawangs, a truly outstanding place. Very Happy

The money shot.

My topo of the area shows a Trig (the cairn) here so you get 2 for 1.

Set off from the Wog Wog car park at 8.30am with the intention of doing the loop taking in Corang Peak, Corang Arch and the waterholes and waterfalls. This anticlockwise loop is supposedly about a 23km walk and mainly flat. To cut a long story short, my technology failed (wrongly calibrated map in the GPS) and I ended doing the loop clockwise and backtracking a couple of km for good measure. Although extremely beautiful, there are sections of this loop between the waterhole and the arch that are very rough and overgrown. I neared the base of Corang Peak at around 2.30 pm knowing I was running out of light and legs with a 10km walk back to the car still ahead of me. The clincher that made me give the climb a miss was when I realised that I had missed the turn off to the peak. I just kept going for the car making it out with about 5 mins of light left and just as it was starting to rain.
A fantastic day of solo walking and a DNF on a virtual!
Thanks for providing the excuse.
