Description
Another one of our GCA virtual caches within the National Parks.
The Figure Eight Pools are a spectacular geological feature located on a rock shelf south of Figure Eight Gully near Burning Palms. There are several circular sink-holes in the rock, and a few of them have joined over time to form a figure '8' shape. Two sink-holes in particular have joined to form a very spectacular figure '8' shape in the rock. The safest time to visit the pools is at low tide when there is only a very low swell in the ocean. During some high tides the cache may become inaccessible so please plan you visit. Tide times can be found here.
The best way of getting there is to start at Otford and follow the coastal track down to Burning Palms. From there head onto the beach and follow the rock ledge to the coordinates. You will also have to scramble over many oversized pebbles.
To claim this virtual geocache please post a photograph of yourself having a dip in the pool as in the photo below!
Having a dip!
We're not that mean really! A photo next to the pool with your GPS will suffice if you really must ;-)
Logs
The dip was scary but nice once the fear had subsided. The other pools also were visited and a jump in the water at the beach concluded the water activities.
And then we needed to go uphill again, a good two hundred meter vertically.... TFTC!
*Overall Experience: 5*
A lovely walk down and around the rocks to an amazing spot that was surprisingly busy. It was way too cold for a swim but the holes looked enticing.
TFTC.
This cache was an extra which I completed with Team Canary after finding a nearby GC cache.
I don't know why but the pool seemed a lot smaller than I remembered from my last visit in the mid 1980's.
On our return journey, we considered climbing the cliff but upon checking the climb out, the surfaces were covered with moss and there was a bit of water flowing. We did take the first exit which gave us the chance to see a Rock Wallaby when we took a break.
Fortunately I ended up one short of this being a milestone!?!

Out here from Burning Palms, where KoolKath and I were on beach patrol. Thought I come around and check the life rings at the wall. Usually, we do it by driving the duck here, however, just wanted to see the pools. Had my new camera lens on, for the first time today - fantastic zoom from 18mm to 250mm for my pentax K20D.
So much to see - always love the headlands and the rock formations. The snails, the chinascript weathering, the cracks... Tide was descending, so good walk and watching the splashes of the waves.
Thought I'll send some of the photos to my friends. Since I was just by myself, fully equipped in Life Saver uniform, rescue tube and radio, I though, I won't plunge in today - but certainly next time, to come out with more people.
Sorry for not bringing the GPS here! Left it at the clubhouse, as I thought, a photo will do!
The Arkaroo - who loves the mountains and the waters.
