Description

This is the most sought out position in this area. A lot of dollars, sweat and tears is spent to get to this position on one day of the year in October.

This is a simple find for all except during that particular time of the year that all can obtain. (unlike a nano cache nearby ....)

All you need to do is to take a photo of yourself, your car or whatever with your GPSr on the Number 1 position.

The Number 1 position ...

Don't like your chances of getting this one during the particular weekend in October ......

Logs

14-Jan-24
We decided to stay in Bathurst for a couple of nights on our way home from a two month trip so we simply had do do a lap or two of the mountain, and a few caches.
Thanks for the cache firesafe.

20-May-23
Found on our trip on the Big Island.
Proof we have the fastest Trailblazer we got pole

19-Feb-23
Thought I would log a find with my current vehicle and caravan on the pole position prior to the 12 Hour Race

11-Dec-20
Just before our 'race' lap (after stopping 10 times on the first), we had to pose at pole....

20-Mar-20
Quick pic before I left town

28-Feb-16
In Bathurst for the Geocaching NSW Invasion events and our morning plan was to collect as many of the Mt Panorama caches as we could. Little did we know that this would be the last major trip for our trusty Commodore, so it's quite fitting that it got a last blast around the track before going into retirement. It was a great morning for the trip and we ended our lap with a meeting of the HDT Owners Club of NSW BBQ and a visit to the museum.

27-Feb-16
In Bathurst for the Geocaching NSW Invasion events and couldn't pass on a chance of being in the No1 position on Mount Panorama. Pole position in an RV?.....now that would be a cornering nightmare!

Headed to Bathurst for the Geocaching NSW Invasion event, and had to have a spin around Mount Panorama at least once in my life - sticking strictly to the 60 kph speed limit of course. And in fact a lot of those corners were tight enough I didn't even want to be at 60, how the heck they do them in those racing cars is amazing as it is a lot steeper and tighter than it looks on the TV coverage. But anyway for once in it's life the work Commodore got to be on pole - somewhere it probably never expected to be.

Thanks firesafe.

21-Jan-16
Found myself at poll position. You can tell from the car that I obviously deserve it!

01-Jan-16
Found on a weekend trip to the Blue Mountains with Sol de Lune. While seeking some trigs around the town, we had to make sure that we did at least one lap of the mountain. I love watching the race every year, so this was a great cache to get. So after getting on the track, we quickly positioned ourselves for the photo. Awesome idea for a virtual cache - love it! Permission Granted By CO to log a find.

I was in Bathurst for the great race this weekend, unfortunately the marshals wouldn't allow me to stop at "Pole Position" to take the required photo, however I did get my passenger to take 2 photos to prove we drove along the track.

Loved the weekend in Bathurst and had a great seat on Hells Corner to watch the great race. Even better than Holden took the flag Mr. GreenMr. Green

Thanks for the Virtual Firesafe

09-Sep-15
set a lap record to take out pole position :p

18-Jul-15
Found with GrimRaider on a trip to Bathurst to celebrate 35 years together. G has always loved the race, though I am usually happy to provide drinks and snacks and do my own thing somewhere else while the race is on. Great to be here though, enjoying the town, the history and the mountain. TFTC Smile

14-Jul-15
Unable to get onto track as cars were racing around and so track was closed to public. Got picture of other people racing around - hope this is okay

10-May-15
Couldn't believe I drove around circuit in Bathurst.
Thanks for bring me here and virtual. Mr. GreenMr. Green

19-Oct-14
Im not sure about this racing thing but Zal said on my first trip to Bathurst I had to do a lap!

18-Oct-14
Heading to Dubbo for the weekend I was surprised the mountain was open again as Bathurst was the previous week! The track was clear but the sidings still bore the scars of the race that almost wasn't! Zhaoy and I pulled into pole but with the deconstruction work it was unsafe to exit the vehicle so snapped the bonnet from within! Cheers Firesafe Very Happy

28-Nov-13
Found on the NSW leg of our Round Aust trip
Leaving Forbes today to head towards Bathurst, took the scenic country route so we could stop and see the AMAZING fossil museum, the kids really loved this!

Some major road works in progress around the track atm. The whole track seems to be being resurfaced so no line markings at all! Will obviously look great when they get round to remarking the positions, thanks for bringing us here.

25-May-13
Stopped by to grab my chance on Pole Position while in Bathurst on a caching run.

Thanks for the dream.....

14-Mar-13
This virtual was a definite 'must do' on our list for our road trip. So this afternoon we each drove a lap and took the required photo at pole position. Loved it! Dancing TFTC

Another find with pjmpjm during our day's Trig and Geocache hunt in the Bathurst area.
I had been to the track many years ago before the new pits were built, so it was nice to see the improvements to the pit straight.
After pjmpjm stopped the GeoBuru !! on the required spot we took our photos and carried on with the day's activities.
Thanks for the cache, loved that one.

Found with rogerw3 and the GeoBuru2 this afternoon!

I had no idea that my humble geocaching vehicle could become part of this famous race!

Of course, there were no other competitors around on the day.

But it was still fun.

Photo taken by rogerw3 coming in a couple of hours.

Was running out of time, facing the wrong way, and hoping no cars would come while i smacked this one out...

Yes I am in reverse, ready to do a flick turn ... Cool

22-Sep-12
Stopped to get ready for the Big Race next weekend.
Lots of activity all around the track already.
A group of bikers were also lining up for photos on the side.
Very rare site seeing a 4wd on pole position!

GCA 550 - 5576. A weekend run with my kids combining caching, sightseeing and chasing a few Windmills.... Smile

Nice and quiet up here today - unlike other days of the year. So we grabbed Pole Position an enjoyed it the way Brockie did...

We were surprised that this cache had not been logged for 71 weeks. Having some free time in Bathurst this afternoon, we decided to look for some caches at Mount Panorama and we could not ignore this cache. The photo added to the Gallery shows Mrs y'stassie in the Number 1 grid position. TFTC

28-Jan-11
It is great to see so many new caches on this great circuit. It took two goes to get the photo as there was a bit of traffic about. Thanks

Should have had the Torana here. Oh well!! Off to do a lap. Thanks.

22-Nov-10
Out on a weekend caching trip. Actually, we were supposed to be going to lunch with some friends on Sunday at Blackheath, But Black Bunny decided that we might as well make it a dual purpose trip. Of course, we cached all day Saturday, and on Sunday, and we were very nearly late for lunch. After that, of course, we had some caching to do, and a long drive back to Canberra. We made it by about 2300. A long weekend, but fruitful. Lunch was good, too.

I let Black Bunny get this one. Thank you.

20-Nov-10
Out for a weekends caching towards Meadlow Bath where we were going to meet up with some muggle friends for lunch on Sunday. A quick find between passing muggles after doing the nearby GC. Thanks Firesafe for the cache.

163. NO trip to Bathurst is complete without a lap. And it appears that not many can resisit the urge to stop at this hallowed spot. The funniest was the guy in the Hyundai as we were parked the wrong way doing the nearby trad. He laughed heartily when I gave him the double thumbs up for his "racing" start.

TFTC and the revs.

01-Apr-10
They were getting ready for the Easter long weekend races and there were lots of classic race cars arriving today. Still managed to squeeze a photo in. Cheers

30-Mar-10
This wasn't the best logging requirement as we had to deal with a steady stream of vehicles going past, even though it was a quiet weekday. Anyhow you can see our car, me (driver doing the thumbs up) and the GPSr was attached to the windscreen (not that you can see it very well).

Anyhow it was a great spot to stop, and we proceeded to do a lap of the circuit.

TFTC.

29-Mar-10
Stopped here in the rain today nobody seemed to mind us taking Pole position for our own. Others just drove on by.

Didn't think this one would last this long. Was checking on the cache nearby and had the camera with me so nabbed the *FTF* on this one.

Quite a few cars doing laps today.

Thanks Firesafe for the cache.
