Description
I've Cached Everywhere, Man
I've Cached Everywhere, Man is attempting to be the largest single cache series in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack.
GCA Verse 7 by Trigg-A-Nomics
I've cached in Tarlee, Marree, Waikerie, Yongala,
Coobowie, Terowie, Nangwarry, Barmera,
Woomera, Virginia, Wudinna, Kyancutta
Alice Springs, Spalding, Iron Knob, Curramulka
Pine Creek, Leigh Creek, Tennant Creek, Oodnadatta
Taperoo, Jabiru, Buckleboo, Orroroo!
Even though Trigg-A-Nomics may heave meant his verse to be focussed on SA / NT there is no reason I can't use it for Leigh Creek in Victoria as well.
Leigh Creek is a location, about 10km east of Ballarat and about 90km west of Melbourne along the Western Highway / Ballarat Rd. There is not much to Leigh Creek, just the roadhouse and weighbridge, some locals and a bit further up Forbes Rd you can find the wonder that is Kryal Castle. The caughtatwork family have been to Kryal Castle, once, in the past. Forever in our minds and hearts it is known as Crappy Castle.
There isn't much to see in Leigh Creek itself. It's predominately farmland and the majority of the crown land in the area is closed to the public as it is part of the local water catchment area. The mountain, Mount Warrenheip is not even in Leigh Creek, so regrettably, there was nowhere spectacular to hide a cache.
There is, however, on the eastbound lanes of the Western Highway a small truck stop / pull off / weighbridge which has toilet amenities, including disabled access. If you're heading past Ballarat on the way to Melbourne and you're heading down the highways, this might be a good place to take moment to stop, rest, revive. Visit the toilet and while you're here, find a cache.
The cache is the usual style caughtatwork hide of a 2 litre Sistema container hidden inside an 30 calibre ammo can. It is well hidden from the prying eyes at the rest stop about a 50 or so metre walk from the toilets, but you might be noticed by cars passing along the highway. When you get near to GZ you won't be able to mistake the hide. If you're feeling lucky, notice which way the arrow is pointing and leave the GPS in the car. If you follow the tree line, you won't be able to miss the cache.
Please hide the cache container well when you leave as the grass does get cut and we don't want the maintenance guys to spot the cache.
Once you have found this cache, you can say "I've been to Leigh Creek".

I never knew Vic had a Leigh Creek. It may be the only one soon as going by the news reports, it sounds like SA's Leigh Creek may soon be dead and gone...
Always great to find such a large cache to!
