Description
The Big Issue is a Not For Profit Organisation to help Australia's homeless
'The Big Issue' is Australia's leading social enterprise. They are an independent, not for profit organisation that develops solutions to help homelessness, disadvantaged and marginalised people to positively change their lives.
The Big Issue magazine is published fortnightly and sold on the streets by vendors who purchase copies for $2.50 out of their own money and then sells them for $5, they then get to keep the difference.
Vendors come from all walks of life, some are homeless, some have intellectual of physical disabilities and some are struggling with addictions. All of the vendors have been marginalised through their circumstances and are looking to improve their lives.
The object of this cache is to perhaps give up on your weekly gossip mag and buy a copy of The Big Issue, you will be getting yourself a very interesting read, as well as helping someone in your community who genuinely wants to earn some money.
To claim this cache please post a picture of someone in your family reading the magazine, a small review on one of the articles or what you thought of the magazine would be also nice but not necessary.
I have posted a picture here of one of the vendors here in Adelaide who has become a little famous due to his faithful companion Ruby. At christmas Ruby walks around with Reindeer Ears, but in todays picture Ruby was dressed as a Pirate. I stopped and had a chat, and gave a tip for letting me take a picture.

I was approached by a friendly Paul to see if I would buy a copy.
I happily obliged and asked him for permission to take a photo.
No problem he said and I did.
Have attached a copy of Issue 664 - 24th Jun that I bought.

"Why would you buy something where Murdoch is trying to influence every reader - when you can buy the Big Issue for an unbiased read!"
Food for thought!!!!!
During the pandemic The Big Issue has been sold in Woolworths supermarkets
allowing money to still be raised to help the homeless
Station Street

Vendor was selling issues here, in front of the Railway Station.
We often buy them as there are many good and interesting articles in them.
What a good idea for a locationless. Thanks ParisLaura

My friend Mike often sells The Big Issue here in the upper Blue Mountains, near the old Leura Post Office Building (now a newsagency), and he likes to talk with all and sundry about spiritual topics, Aboriginal traditions and Native Americans.
I'm not a big reader of The Big Issue but enjoying talking with Mike!
The interesting article was about all the Australia Vendors - and included a photo of the lady I bought my copy from !
A very good Locationless !!
TFTC !!
First time I've bought a copy...it was an interesting read.....and now I know the vendor receives a portion of the sale, I will probably buy it ever so often.
Thanks for the locationless.....
Certainly an interesting read
Thanks for the cache Paris Laura
Attended an event on Mount Wellington, Tasmania this evening and a copy of The Big Issue arrived at the event.
I think the concept of this magazine is great and it is a shame that we don't, or at least I don't think we have it here in Tasmania.
Broused a couple of articles and enjoyed them very much.
TFTC and cheers;
OldSaint.
An article of interest in Big Issue #411 was "Fun & Games", an interesting, funny and thought provoking article by Alan Attwood looking at the athletes, sports and controversies of the games in the modern area, 1896-2012. How do games ideals match up with the reality? Are modern athletes any different to those of yesteryear? Are there too many "Mickey Mouse" events? No matter what your views of the Olympic Games, this article will make you think and make you smile and, as the author says, we will be watching.
As now one else has claimed a find on this cache, we will claim a FTF. thanks for the cache.
