Description

Should be an easy find near one of WanderingAus' favourite places.
I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack, as well as other towns mentioned in verses made up by geocachers.

Darwin is the seventeenth place mentioned in the song, at Line five in Verse one.

Having visited Darwin four times since I discovered geocaching I own a few Darwin caches and have found quite a lot. Having "found a cache" there I could then place an ICEM cache there too. (I won't place an ICEM cache in any place where I haven't found a cache of some sort first - my rule for me only).

Cached in:
Tullamore, Seymour, Lismore, Mooloolaba,
Nambour, Maroochydore, Kilmore, Murwillumbah,
Birdsville, Emmaville, Wallaville, Cunnamulla,
Condamine, Strathpine, Proserpine, Ulladulla,
Darwin, Gin Gin, Deniliquin, Muckadilla,
Wallumbilla, Boggabilla, Kumbarilla,
I'm a killer.

Having decided to place an ICEM cache in Darwin the next decision was where to place it. I have plenty of favourite spots in and around Darwin, so I put all the names in a list and narrowed it down to the best six, put those six in a hat, and pulled them all out.

The coastal cliffs just north of Mindil Beach consist of sedimentary rock which has been naturally eroded, largely by wave action from the ocean, to form gently undulating bedded strata of varying colours.

There is a lookout at the top of the cliff near Darwin High School, which overlooks Mindil Beach, and the Larrakia Coastal Plant Use Walk starts not far away at S12° 26.461' E130° 49.957', and leads down to Mindil Beach. The cache should be approached from the Larrakia Coastal Plant Use Walk, turning off the formed trail opposite the 'Cluster Fig' sign.

You can start the Larrakia Coastal Plant Use Walk from either end. When the school is open you can park at S12° 26.402  E130° 50.051. If the school is closed the road is blocked by a boom gate but you can park at S12° 26.402'  E130° 50.051'. Some cachers might like to start from the Mindil Beach end, walking uphill first, and ending with a leisurely down hill and along the flat return to Mindil Beach. If the Thursday evening or Sunday evening Mindil Beach Markets aren't operating you can park at S12° 26.610'  E130° 49.941', which is very close to the southern end of the Larrakia Coastal Plant Use Walk, but at market time you will need to park a bit further away.

This cache is a drab camo'd 1 Kg screw top plastic fruit container with a log, 2 pencils, and a sharpener, protected from crushing by a drab camo'd 1 Kg Milo Tin. Please be sure to put the lid on tightly and conceal it as found, with the opening of the Milo tin angled downward to avoid water accumulation, and watch out for muggles.

The cache is hidden in a pile of rocks, and some of the rocks need to be removed to access the container. The rocks need to be replaced as found taking care not to crush the Milo tin or the plastic container.

Swaggies are not tradeable items. Please feel free to take them without making a trade, but please leave a note in the logbook and your online log, and do log them online. Grounspeak Trackables (geocoins and travel bugs) can NOT be logged into this cache, or any other GCA cache. Please don't drop any Grounspeak Trackables in this cache, and if you find any in this cache please remove them and log a "Grab it from somewhere else" log for the trackable.

Additional Waypoints:

Mindil Cliffs Parking 1 S12° 26.435'  E130° 49.950' - Use when school is open.
Mindil Cliffs Parking 2 S12° 26.402'  E130° 50.051' - Use when school is closed and road is blocked by boom gate.
Mindil Cliffs Trailhead S12° 26.461' E130° 49.957'  - Start of the Larrakia Coastal Plant Use Walk.
Mindil Cliffs Parking 3 S12° 26.610'  E130° 49.941' - Park here to walk from Mindil Beach end.

Day 68 of our greynomad trip up north from Vic, after a the JLWEvents in Wudinna SA, a tour of Maralinga and caching to claim LGAs in the Eyre Peninsula, through to Allice Springs, Uluru and now Nth NT, we have finally escaped the southern weather that has been wet and windy. Not sure that we are acclimatised to the northern heat yet as we are feeling it by early afternoon, but out sightseeing and caching in the morning. It is also day 67 of a streak, so we would like to keep it rolling.

Took hubby to go crabbing today and my goal is to find the cache types required for this months challenge. I managed all but the event. Felt like a T4 today as I ducked under branches and over vines and rocks, but got there in the end.

Alice trip 2017. Day 20. Today Sol de Lune, Luckyl10n, Fitzy_1965 and I spent our last day caching around Darwin near East point and the CBD taking advantage of a quiet Sunday. The Esplanade was a great place to visit and we managed several caches here.

(sorry for the late log, it seems I managed to miss logging it last year)

Thanks
Albida

#GA1549 - 12:20; Day 22 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965. We had reached Darwin and were spending our time today having another caching run through the city area and surrounds. We had reached Mindil Beach and decided to take a stroll over to grab this cache. Made our way up the path and once at GZ the hunt started. It was a33 who came up with the find. Once the log was signed we continued up to take in the views and complete the earthcache. TFTC WanderingAus Very HappyClan Cerberus

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1415. Found during Day 12 of my epic 21 day visit to Alice Springs for the Red Centre Experience Event and further travels after that.

Flew into Alice Springs and met up with my fellow intrepid team members Sol de Lune, Albida33 and LuckyL10n for the start of an amazing trip throughout the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and eventually back to Canberra. The Red Centre Experience is the main attraction of course, but also on our agenda are a lot of GC Caches, lots of trigs, as well as plenty of GCA Trads, History and Virtual Caches (and maybe the odd beer or two ??!! Smile. Go Clan Cerberus !

Another Trad for the trip while in the north. We stopped here to look around and grab some caches. Lots of piccies taken. Then it was back in the car and off to the next one !

Another great location visited during our journey.

TFTC !!

Another nabbed with fitzy, LuckyL10n and albida while in Darwin for 4 days before we start the long drive home. Walked up the track from the market area (which we've missed by just one week) and once at GZ the search was on. Wasn't long before albida came up the find and all was good. Log was signed, cache replaced and we headed further up the hill to check out the views...and the earthcache.

Thanks again WanderingAus...cache all good.

Today I took a lunchtime stroll to search for this cache. I didn't have high hopes, but in fact it was exactly in the posted location and in very good order. I found the rocks, then the milo tin (which I might not have recognised) and then the cache. I added a ziplock bag to protect the log a bit more since it seems to have long waits between finds, and left 2 pirate coins to encourage the next person to seek it out. A nice walk and a nice cache - thank you WanderingAus.

Today we thought we would try our luck and see if we could find this cache - which we did - found the lid first - then the container - then the milo tin! - no logbook etc. We added a scrap of paper with our name on it and replaced under rocks near the tree as per hint.
As there are no other found logs on the page we will claim FTF TFTC

WanderingAus wandered by on day 33 of our annual Climatic Refugee trip, after dropping the WanderingMrs at the bus stop for a lift to Palmerston to join the local ladies in a craft activity.

I checked the cache location, and found a small plastic cup had been substituted for the cache. The cache has been replaced with a a drab camo'd 1 Kg screw top plastic fruit container, protected from crushing by a drab camo'd 1 Kg Milo Tin, and relocated to a nearby spot.

Good to go again, enjoy.
