Description

A Rougues Gallery of notable cachers.

This cache is a virtual cache.

You can go to the listed coordinates and you will find The National Gallery of Victoria ( How does that work?), but there is nothing there relevant to finding this cache.

A FIND on this cache is registered by posting a portrait photograph of a cacher caught in an unusual or candid pose.

The cache came into being when photographs posted on the Geocaching Melbourne Facebook Page were censored by the administrators for being so well liked they were continually bumped to the top of the posts, which annoyed those who probably won't visit this cache too often.

It became obvious to most members of the group possessing a sense of humour that a repository for these well loved photos, and others which will emerge, was desperately needed.

So here it is.

The photos can be (hopefully will be), humorous, and should be in reasonable taste.

We are not out to offend anybody, neither subject nor observer, and logs doing that do that will be removed, however we will be reasonably tolerant. Subjects of photos can request the cache owner to have the photo removed if they so desire.

Multiple finds are allowed and encouraged if additional suitable photos emerge during the pursuit of caching activities.

Well, that's about it, post away.

This cache seems more like a locationless than a virtual, but we'll add a photo taken at the geocache nearby, down in Birrarung Mar at the wooden wombat. It looks like I was a little enthusiastic is checking certain spots for a geocache.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks for this geocache here today.

Going through my old geocaching photos and came across this one. I'm hoping it will qualify to log a find. Talk about lucky legs??

I traveled back home to SA from Perth for family reasons and decided that Melbourne is only a short hop from Adelaide, so I logged an attendance at the Parkville Mega event and headed over for 5 days in Melbourne. I hired an E bike and had it for 4 days so was able to get around to many places and grab lots of caches as well as biking from the Youth Hostel in North Melbourne to Parkeville which was only a short ride. After checking into the hostel on Thursday i jumped on a tram and headed down to the markets and then jumped off and went for a stroll through a park nearby for another cache. On the tuesday after the event I rode all around the cbd getting caches and was passing through here to go to some other caches so i stopped by here to have a read about this cache and did a silly selfie across the road from the gallery so i could log the cache. The things you see when riding a bike....much better than having a car. Thanks for the cache GMJ3191 Clapping

As I generally cache by myself and often the cache requires a photo of a GPS (which I don't have ) or a photo of a team member at the site or with a particular item in the photo - hence I take lots of selfies. Not all my selfies are successful or pretty! This is one of me with a geocache - face screwed up and lots of wrinkles. I have included a second photo at the same geocache that unfortunately only has my leg in it - another common occurrence! I did a geocache at the Victorian Gallery

I was out caching in Alice Springs in April, while attending the Red Centre event, when I took this shot of DarkSideDan, a caching buddy. He was swimming the Todd River... Had a great time and lots of fun. TFTC

On one of my caching trips with a friend we needed to cross a marsh (why walk around when you can walk through?) and of course my friend couldn't find the cache so I had to enter the marsh and hunt. Luckily I was successful, but not before my boots were covered in mud.

27th Dec 2015 Taggertree T5 - The Aftermath... I did survive with only a rope burn to my left wrist and a smile that took ages to fade Very Happy
I'm not too sure what that Clever Monkey is doing behind my back but after returning to terra firma from higher climbs (sic), I was in no position to argue. Wink
Interestingly, since that eventful day, the bananas are the only recorded visitors to Taggertree - Last Thursday.
Thanks for the cache Geoff.

Hi GMJ3191

Have been to the given co-ordinates many times.
Sainted this one at 1300hrs.

In the course of finding a fantastic cache, GC6E93P The Lost Vikings - Thor's Hammer, I was fortunate enough to take this memorable shot of Megan from team M&D? I'll also attach a better one!

Stainless-steel-rat caught in the act. As I was in Melbourne I walked past the listed coordinates too where the widows remind me of an old fish shop! TFTC

I found this cache today, when I was thinking of heading to this area to find a cache. Once I read the cache page of course, I discovered that I had no need to travel here. I have located a perfect photo to log this cache with, if has two candid cachers in it. Both sharkiefan, at least the back half of her, and SirJ-Oz, tapping away on his phone.
This photo was taken on a grad day out doing the This was to the Otways series a few year back.

Walked past today. Never seen it here before.

GC478YP NAVIGATING CNS - Cairns, Queensland

We were on one of our caching/camping trip collecting D/T combos not available at home. Our log for this cache reads..

"# 957 C+2M Annual Camp/Cache trip north.

Last year we did this trip before christmas and spentt a couple of days working our way up the coast. We made it to Cairns but only overnight and had to head home. Unfortunatly, this time we only have two days so intend to go straight to Cairns with limited diversions. We are hunting quality instead of quantity. He identified 10 caches in Cairns and surrounding areas with D/T combinations that we are yet to find.

I remember when this cache was published, and I remember emailing Walter to let him know that I had solved it the day after it was published. I don't know if we got First to Solve but it doesn't really matter. The co-ords have been saved on our notes for over 9 months. Time to go claim it.

This was to be our last for the night, but ended in disaster. Firstly, no torch meant search by phone light, making following the needle all but impossible, but it wanted me to go into the mud. Then a bird above displayed it's displeasure of me being there. Must have been a bird the size of a dump truck by the mess it left on my neck and shoulder. Need a shower.

This morning, Monkeys wanted to focus on Munzee and the swimming hole so this was our first stop before we prepare to head home. Walked straight to GZ and made a quick find."

Being Australia's first Gold medal winner was never going to see me defeated.

We ran neck and neck to the finish.

But alas I was stripped of winnings at the finish post.

Oh well it was fun while it lasted.

On 15 February 2012 we finally found the cache "GA4218 Sand Dunes, Shells and Birds" at East Inlet near Stanley. East Inlet is a tidal area with some quite deep channels which appear to change in location over time. Our log of the find stated, in part, "At our second attempt, we finally found access and made a find. About 10 days ago we attempted this cache, starting about 2 hours before low tide. We took, as much as possible, a fairly direct route towards GZ but were thwarted when we were within about 400m of the cache by a deep, swiftly flowing channel. We waited until low tide but still could not find away to cross. After studying the topography of the area on Google Earth, realising that sand and sand bars often move, we set off again today. The low tide at Stanley was to be 0.3m (0.7 on our previous attempt). We decided to walk southwards along East Inlet until we could find a safe spot to cross the main channel. Again we started a little over 2 hours before low tide. After walking on solid sand, sea grasses and, in places, sinking up to our knees in very soft sand/mud, we found a point to cross the main channel safely . . . .".

Needless to say, we got rather wet and muddy as we tentatively made our way across the inlet to GZ. The photo added to the Gallery contains two images: a candid shot of Mrs y'stassie making her way through the water covered mud flats; a Google Earth image showing the path we took and the channels in East Inlet. The coordinates listed above are of the now archived cache. Thanks gmj3191 for the opportunity of being able to add to Rogues Gallery.

Well someone snapped me whilst I was heading out to grab "The Twins" in South Australia, so I may as well share the picture here, and claim a second smiley Very Happy
And I can remove this cache from my GPSr whenever I'm working in Melbourne now.
The wade out to the cache was fun, but the wet bum was a result of a sudden drop in the murky bottom. Going past GZ regularly, a longer approach from the North would've been better as there are stones under the water all the way (and at present only covered by an inch of water.
A cache you try when in Adelaide.

I've been wondering how to log this one when I remembered a 'sustenance shot' of LinearZZ(m) taken between some caching and a bushwalk (upon which there were more caches found of course Wink).

A quick chat to said 'rogue' and I soon had the nod of approval to log this find. He advises me that this shot is in reasonable taste (or very good 'taste' actually Dancing ).

A nice cache to catch our fellow cachers unaware - or otherwise. Very Happy

Thanks gmj3191.

Well, someone's gotta start...
It's kinda nice to use this photo again, as it's redundant since the GC challenges bit the dust. So: a good ol' nostril-digging at Luna Park while attending our first event.
