Description

We have locationless caches for lots of building. I thought museums needed a showing. They are usually fun to visit and nowadays are anything but stuffy.  Log photo with coords-GPS not needed as it can spoil a photo. Some info about the museum would also be good.

Cachers can log more than once as long as there's another log between entries.

Logs

We are fortunate to have a local museum near where we live. Logan Village Museum.

This is the Museum in Dunolly Victoria. It wasn’t open but there was a variety of items displayed in the windows.
Of interest is the anvil outside. The world’s largest gold nugget (the Welcome Stranger) was cut up on it on 9 February 1869.

S41 28.614 E146 34.980 ELIZABETH TOWN TASMANIA

This place promotes itself as a museum but I have never seen any evidence of visitors except on one occasion about two years ago. It appears to me to be the property of an avid collector of memorabilia who is prepared to show his collection to the passing public. I have never stopped as I am usually passing on my way to somewhere. I feel sure there would be many interesting things to see in this collection. Very Happy

Have just spent a few days in the NE Tassie town of Derby doing the many mountain bike trails in the area.
Grabbed a photo of the School House museum while passing just for this cache.

Step into the past and explore the vibrant mining and social history of the picturesque township of Derby in Tasmania’s North East. The Derby Schoolhouse Museum is a local history museum situated in the heritage school building, which was built in 1897. The Museum’s collection includes many photographs, documents and artefacts dating from the early days of European settlement in the region, with a focus on the mining era. There is also a replica school room which is furnished with desks and other items from the Derby State School, including exercise and copy books which belonged to students of the school, dating back over 100 years, a small but poignant display of World War I and World War II items, and much more. A good spot to take a break on your journey, talk to some local residents, and learn about the region.

The museum can be found at S41 08.790 E147 48.068
Thanks.

Bunbury Museum, Arthur Street, Bunbury, WA

Bunbury has only had this museum for a few years now. It is reopening soon after being shut down due to COVID19. I thought I had missed a police display but through Facebook they have told me it will still be on display when they reopen. With three generations on my family tree plus other off branches in the police force starting back to 1850's I'm interested in this display.

The building has been around for many years. It once was a school (think this is the original use), has been a dance studio, and a cafe has been in there too. Probably other things but not often I go past the front of the building

The Serviceton Museum is a wonderful treasure of memories. Housed in the old Serviceton Railway Station it has upstairs and down in the cellars to be explored. Because it is on the border of South Australia and Victoria trains had to stop here for passengers to change trains dur to the difference in rail gauges. There are still the cells beneath ground level where prisoners were chained overnight. It is a wonderful place to explore. We only knew of its existence because there is a Geocache there. Well worth a visit.

The Ulverstone Local History Museum had its origins early in the 1980s when a group of interested volunteers came together to preserve local history. As well as many exhibits collected from the area, buildings from the wider community were identified and moved to a site in Main Street where been the site for a garage and workshops. The relocated buildings included a school, gaol, navigation beacon and part of a railway station. The museum is a very worthwhile place to visit as it does give a good insight into the history of the area. The photo added to the Gallery shows Mrs y’stassie outside the museum.

McCrossin's Mill Museum, Uralla NSW
The flour mill was built in 1870 for John McCrossin from Ireland with the ground floor walls and verandah footings constructed of Uralla granite. In 1979 the Uralla Historical Society bought the derelict building and restored it. It contains a series of nine paintings of Captain Thunderbolt's (the bushranger) last day, chinese artefacts from the Rocky River goldfields and many more exhibits. It's a popular tourist attraction in Uralla.

The museum exhibits include railway locomotives, railmotors, carriages and wagons, trams, trolley buses, motor buses, stationary steam engines and many other items of historical interest. There is also a display of historical photographs and other small objects. Short demonstration train trips are run at the museum twice a month, on the first and third Sunday. These are presently operated by DP class diesel railmotor on the first Sunday, and one of our steam locomotives & and vintage carriages on the third Sunday. TFTC

The Sydney Jewish Museum identifies the 16 Jews who arrived on the First Fleet and describes life for those people and their families in the early days in the settlement of Australia. The main purpose of the museum, however, is to document and teach the history of the Holocaust. It does this over three floors of exhibitions, video presentations, newspaper clippings, pictures, narrations, letters and first hand accounts. There are also guided tours; one of the guides is Holocaust survivor and writer Olga Horak.

Museum address: 148 Darlinghurst Road, Darlinghurst NSW 2010 (corner of Burton St and Darlinghurst Rd).

The Sydney Jewish Museum is dedicated to documenting and teaching the history of the Holocaust so that these events will never be repeated.
(above info provided by wikipedia)

I have passed this Museum many times and have yet to have a chance to visit it, but it looks worth a visit.

Burnie Regional Museum. The museum is across the courtyard from the Arts and Function Centre in the middle of town. The main exhibition is Federation Street which is a display of shops and businesses set up as they might have been around 1900. They have other exhibitions which change periodically. The current one is a display of portrait photos across time, each portrait has one thing in common, all the subjects are unidentified. The museum is open on weekdays, except on public holidays. We haven't ever visited but if we can organise getting there on a workday I'd love to go. TFTL

Ringsfield House and Museum Nanango. It has been uttilised for several purposes. At one stage it was a maternity hospital. Moved to its current site as an historical house and museum and in the grounds there are several buildings dating back to the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Ringsfield House was built in 1908 for Mr and Mrs James William Davies Graham. It was designed by noted Queensland Architect Robin Dods and is distinguished by its wide verandas, bay windows, large, airy bedrooms and built in cupboards.

Ringsfield has enjoyed four lives so far! From 1908 till 1942 it was the private home of the Graham and Sullivan families. In 1942, the house became the Ringsfield Maternity Hospital. During the hospital’s 28 year history, between 3,000 and 4,000 babies were born here prior to the hospital finally closing in 1970. By 1973 the house was occupied again as a lifeline refuge and continued in this capacity for a further 20 years. Finally in 1992 the then Nanango Shire Council determined that Ringsfield should be restored as a museum and historical centre.

Today, Ringsfield is an active community museum offering displays, art and crafts, and catering for small functions. As the headquarters of the Nanango Historical Society, it is a repository for historical photographs and archives. Also within the precinct is a replica coach house (built from materials rescued from the demolished 100 year old Nanango Show grandstand), a cream shed, a slab shepherd's hut, the town's original Presbyterian Church and Nanango's oldest surviving building - the State School built in 1866.

The extensive gardens were designed in 1993 by landscape architect, Jeremy Ferrier.

Ringsfield has many stories to tell and, for visitor of all ages, it provides a unique opportunity to experience the lifestyle of past generations or a picturesque spot for your wedding photographs to be taken. It is open 10.00am to 2.00pm Monday to Saturday and or by appointment. $3 Entry Charge applies and catering for Devonshire teas, lunches and dinners are available upon request.
