After twelve years sadly its time to let this one go, thanks to all those that found it over the years. And Thanks to Steve for the reason it was there.
"Hey mate I have had to remove "one for steve" they are trying to save the old big redgum and are going to fence it off and plant it out with natives. They also believe that its an original birthing tree so want to stop people going inside. "

Wow !! That is a good looking tree
But from the highway side,
you can't see where the cache might hide
I wandered around the 'back' and got another surprise !!
"Anyone Home ?" [:o]
I guess not,
so into the gloom I headed.
It took a few minutes for me eyes to adjust and I could find the cache
TFTC and keeping it below 3 metres altitude

Day 6 of our annual caching blitz and time to settle in and explore the area. This is the exact reason to cache, finding awesome trees like this one. A favourite. Tftc
Found while on a quick 3 day break in the area to visit family.
Nice weather for caching and a good hide here too.
Thanks for hiding this for us to find.

I had this cache on the radar (list) for a while since. Today I was driving from a weekend in Alexandra to pick up two of our boys from Scout camp in Gembrook. So on the way there I puked over. Cautiously walking around GZ a bit scared what slithering things could be lurking around and then whoa I discovered a cool spot offering nice shade on a hot day like this. Cautiously walking in I soon spotted likely hiding spot and voila the cache was soon in my hand. I signed the log and put the container back into it’s hiding spot. I looked around and spotted the nests of feathery guardians (swallows). What a fantastic hide this is. Giving it a fav. TFTC
We haven’t found a hide like that before. Kids like the tree but it was a bit dusty.
Holidaying in the area, the plan was to get as many of the AX17 fish puzzles and gadget caches as possible. This wasn't on the list, but since we were driving past on the way to lunch, we had to check it out. Certainty glad we did, as the gz was certainly unexpected. Much larger than on the inside than the outside.

A circular trip around the outskirts of town. Found some great caches, saw some amazing views over the surrounding countryside.
Todays weather was much cooler just perfect for caching.

Spotted potential hiding place from road, but was nervous wading through grass to reach it. Sent in Geodad who has bigger stompy~ier feet and longer legs. Thanks for placing this cache Rebel Acts.
Off I go to Melbourne! Down from Canberra for a caching trip around the Mega!
So the Mega had ended BUT more caching had to be done!
Swung by this one to make the collect on my way to Sth Packenham. Wow what an AMAZING tree! Giving this one a fave!

Spent most of today in the Marysville Buxton area grabbing a cache or two and doing the tourist thing. Lots of fond memories from the old Marysville. Grabbed this cache on the return journey. Thanks Rebel Act for the cache. SL Cheers 4 Now
Heading out from Alexandra, following the ending of the Mega. Another geo-cacher was parked here when I pulled up. They were still flying the flag, but I had taken mine down. That they had ventured in and returned sans bitten, made me feel more confident to enter the den. Cache quickly spotted. Magnificent old tree. TFTC Rebel Acts.
Stayed an extra day after the Mega and picked up this one on the way back from Marysville. What an amazing tree! The cache is nice and dry and snug in it’s hide and my favourite point is for the tree! TFTC
It was a last minute decision to attend the Alexandra Event so after work on Friday Rapidlywild and I headed down through a couple of storms and heaps of lightening which put on a great show.
We found a few caches around the place before heading back home on Monday.
Day 2 had arrived and it was back on the roads collecting more yellow smileys.
After collecting all the AX17 puzzles and stopping for some dinner we decided to head out again under the cover of fading light/darkness to collect some more.
Seems a few tiny bats had taken up residence in here.
Signed, replaced and on our way to the next.

Great tree. Similar to the Aboriginal Maternity tree local to me in Talbot.
A wonderful day spent with GemmaSistema as we traveled from our homes to Kyneton before jumping in together to continue to Alexandra and the Mega event, a loooong day as we managed a huge collection of cache types, caught up with friends, explored an area I had not visited before and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! I love seeing the flags popping up and getting random toots from fellow cachers passing by as you are knee deep in a bush.
Thanks to everyone for their contributions! Looking forward to the next one!

Heading on our way to the Mega event. Told the wife “I’m popping to the shops, see you in a while” go go go! Need to find 18 cache on the way to log the Mega as 19th and my 5000 cache. On a mission today, should be fun. TFTC great tree!
Ooh roomy. We were afraid of what we might find here but we delighted we gave this one a go. Great experience and and one you can't do often. A favourite point from us.

Making our way to the airport following the mega event. Still some energy to grab a few more caches along the way! Amazing tree. TFTC.
Awesome tree!
I wasn't sure if I could attend Mega this year with lots of other things happening in life but a plan was hatched close to the date with becca85 to leave the kids at home and do a girls day trip. My day started with leaving home not too long after 6am and meeting Bec en route. From here we travelled stopping for only one cache before hitting the "mega zone".
We caught up with people at all the events, and at caches which is always nice as you get to meet so many different folk from all around Australia. We found some really awesome gadgets caches (which we are bad at), some amazing scenery which I really want to bring the family back to, and we laughed all day long.
I had a fabulous day clocking up plenty of finds. Thanks so much to everyone who contributed to the day. The cache owners, organisers, volunteers, and my geo friends who helped me with puzzle solving before the event! Thanks a million - love the geocaching community. See you all in 2018!

Arrived in Adelaide with JACS Team on Friday and met up with Ardom for a road trip to the Alexandra Mega with a stop at Bendigo. Spent yesterday caching a fish and today picking up bits and pieces.. We all had caches we wanted to grab for different reasons and this was one of them! Thanks for placing
A fairly late decision resulted in myself and 1 party of the FurfacesLL clan headding south towards Alexandra Event. After working during the day Friday, the drive down Friday night felt never ending. We had a great 3 days stomping around Alexandra and surrounds putting our scribble in many caches.
2nd day of tromping around Alexandra and surrounds finding plastic containers
After having some dinner, was time to keep on caching under the cover of darkness. Nice easy find here, signed and replaced

Headed down to Victoria with steeba and Hoojar to be part of the 3rd Victorian Mega celebrations in Alexandra. Our 3-day leave pass ensured we’d be constantly on the go! From 300 finds in the Mt Disappointment area to 10 different cache types there was never a dull moment.
After our busy day of yesterday it didn't take us long to be back in the stride. Today was all about different cache types. This saw us travelling all over Victoria, from a webcam at Mt Buller to a virtual in the CBD we certainly clocked up the kilometres, but we achieved our goal of 10 types in a day.
Thanks to all the cache owners who contributed to a great 3 days caching with my fellow caching buddies. My apologies about the template style log, it certainly doesn’t detract from the thrill of the ‘find”.

Day 3 of my exciting road trip from Brisbane to the Alexandra Mega via Adelaide with friends ESCR and Ardom. Today saw us clean up the remaining gadget and lab caches, attend a couple of events before heading back into Melbourne for our flight collecting odds and sods on the way.
A perfectly named cache like this would always get a fav point from me - but the fact that it takes you to an amazing tree (with bizarre bird nests inside) meant that it would get a fav point in its own right. Thanks to nanton34 for returning the favour and stopping at a previously found cache (for him) and thanks to the CO for unintentionally adding some personalisation to the mega experience tftc
What a great tree, didn't find any residents at home or maybe ignorance is bliss and I just didn't see any. TFTC
Today was Alexandra Mega day: all the fun and excitement of seeing many SA geocachers, some of whom I haven't seen for a long time now! Oh right, I'm in Victoria so I guess I should say all the fun and excitement of seeing all the Australia wide geocachers gathered here to make the most of the cameraderie [^], the fun gadget caches , the great views and sights around Alexandra and the fun of finding geocaches [^]
My grateful thanks to all of those who put so much time and effort into this event and also all of the caches around the area which added to the fun, especially the Trout geoart, the gadget and the lab caches [^][:X] Although I did totally forget to log the lab caches
Special thanks also to the wonderful spidermonkeyAU who arrived bearing DONUTS! [:X] I spent the majority of the weekend with Clare007 and hevwalker and shared lots of laughs [:X] it was good to once again cache with a car full of geocachers who find every cache that they drive near and the fun on the Saturday night while getting cache after cache was something I have missed since being in Victoria. ADI, firesafe, RideTheGeoWalrus and Hurtle made that night a pleasureable and tiring outing since we finished after 1am
Sunday was supposed to be Show and Shine day but somehow, in a variety of ways, that got sidetracked and never completed and so Sunday afternoon was a trip to Mt Disappointment to do some of the remaining caches there, accompanied by the GOTHS + 2
Then it was back to Alexandra to swap Harry for the Corolla as muggle partner had driven the Corolla over for me to take to Melbourne for a week of training as Harry wouldn't fit in the car park at the hotel
ADI and I then drove to Melbourne where we parted ways, having just had the only DNFs of the weekend on that trip down
Due to a very late night at work Friday , an even later night after I arrived in Alexandra due to a friend having an incident with an immovable object (insert 'wombat') and hence a late start to the morning [)] there was only a total of 117 caches found, 3 fun events attended and 3 DNFs over the weekend.
As I'm now 3 months behind in my logging I am desperately trying to catch up and am mass logging to do so.

Today we were caching as the GOTHs, Geocachers of the Hills, made up by the following teams, Bushfire, Aussie M & M, mogni, brisal5, Team Astro, and 6hinemoa2. Our aim was to try and do the Geoart plus any trads along the windy way. Some interesting spots were found, got close to the river, lots of prickly nasty bushes too. Thanks for the hides and the puzzles.
I was heading back towards Alexandra & noticed this cache was nearby.
What an amazing specimen !
All very dry, Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, Rebel Acts.

The idea of going down to Victoria and to the Alexandra Mega was original floated by Steeba. Normally Megas are not something that I am super keen to attend, but the opportunity of also collect some serious numbers on the Mount Disappointment caching trail, and finding some Lab Caches really helped to sweetened the deal. I was in, along with my long time caching buddies Steeba and The Rats.
We left Wollongong at 8pm on Thursday evening, returning at 5pm on Sunday, 2,500km and over 400 cache finds later. With less than a handful of DNFs, a wonderful result!
Highlights of the trip included:
- Finding over 330 caches on Friday, the entire Mount Disappointment trail;
- Finding ten unique cache types on Saturday, which included a drive to both Mount Buller for a Web Cam, and then back for a late night Melbourne CBD visit for a Virtual;
- Meeting up with a few local Wollongong cachers in Alexandra;
- Setting two new personal records, for my most cache finds and cache types in a day;
- The always good company and banter of Steeba and The Rats;
- Seeing six echidnas, and a koala (my first sighting of a koala on the ground in the wild); and
- The absolute highlight of the trip was watching Sir The Rats be inducted into the Australia Geocaching Hall of Fame (or maybe the jokes that Steeba and I had over the weekend over the honour!).
Thanks to all of the cachers that hid caches for us to find over our short trip away. I have little doubt in thinking that we will be back to these parts again at some stage to find more caches!
Cheers

After spending the morning till 2pm at the Mega, opening ceremony, chatting, shopping, finding lab caches, failing dismally at the where i go but eventually succeeding lol, then doing our volunteer stint, we (being GJMMelb, quiet1_au and lochb) headed off to do some caching - our main priority was targeting gadget caches stopping at any others that took our fancy along the way and this was one of them.
This was very Picnic at Hanging Rock-esque with G, q &lb disappearing out of sight lol They kept an eye on the bird nest whilst signing the log

Found as part of a few days away with my great caching mates The Rats and Hoojar. Our main aim was the Mega event in Alexandra but we managed to find most of the Mt Disappointment series, did 9 or 10 cache types in a day (side trip to Mt Buller and then Melbourne CBD). Some great laughs, camping under the stars, a nicely organised Mega and some great wildlife (koala and echidnas ). TFTC!

What a great way to start the weekend of the mega by finding a few local coaches. Wow what a tree I was a little nervous going in as I'm sure there were a couple of birds living there who weren't to keen on me invading their space. Thanks Rebel Acts for placing this cache
I first met Steve, as Rallywrxwagon, 11 years ago on 26/8/06 at...
[Left, Right Jelli-mite](https://coord.info/GCMJT8)
Then we went our separate ways until he re-surfaced as Clever Monkey and eventually we caught up again at the Alexandra Mega. Longtime between drinks!
Now I know where he lives, I will be back! lol
Out with a bunch of fellow South Aussie cachers and Adi from NSW. Had a fun night chasing a heap of caches around Alexandra, mostly the trout series. Some were a blur some were memorable.

Out for some caching around the AX2017 site with lochb and G&J of GJMMelb, tackling the CMGC series mostly and any others we passed by. No prizes for guessing where this cache ought to be hidden (and it was) - what a magnificant old tree! Beware of some broken glass inside but luckily there appeared to be no creepy crawlies or other wildlife. lochb found the cache, what I thought might have been it was just some rubbish... TFTC
Today I teamed up with RoddyC and Snickersallan to catch a Trout and any caches that are along the way.
They were all found thankfully, some easy, some took some time to locate but all in good condition.

Since moving from New Zealand I have been enjoying the area, exploring and finding caches.
So far I’ve knocked off 4 of the states. VIC, SA, NSW and A.C.T
No two areas are the same here and almost every place I go is stunning. The beauty of caching is that it takes you to so many places you would never usually find.
Thank you to all the cachers out there for hiding and maintaining their caches. Especially to those who put so much effort into creating unique and fun hides.
The caches I’ve found in Australia so far have for the most part all been in great condition. Keep up the good work.

Though dissapointed to see the cache's archival, I am not at all surprised to hear of this tree's cultural significance. [^]

P.S. Heads up....I realise now that I have missed logging everything from my Mega experience so, well .....if you own more than one cache in the area, there may be more "late log" appologies coming your way.
Sorry.

What an as mazing tree. [:o]
Though dissapointed to see the cache's archival, I am not at all surprised to hear of this tree's cultural significance. [^]
TFTC Rebel Acts.
P.S. Heads up....I realise now that I have missed logging everything from my Mega experience so, well .....if you own more than one cache in the area, there may be more "late log" appologies coming your way.
Sorry.
MEGA ROAD TRIP - Alexandra Mega 2017 that is. : Day 3: GOTHS go fishing. [8)]
GENERIC LOGS: With Literally Hundreds of caches found during our stay anything specific to this cache will be found near the start HERE: [8] [8] [8] Nothing here means it was found quickly, the cache had no issues and we moved on!
We found this one on the way back after attending the Welcome event.
We had all come together for the Alexandra event at a lovely farmstay just outside the township. Mrs. Aussie M&M, Astro and I from Adelaide, mogni from Mt. Gambier, Bushfire from Geelong and 6hinemoa2 from Bachus Marsh. We would be filling up log books just putting our names in them so we searched for an anagram from our caching name initials. The best we could find was BATHMATs. [B)] Good grief. So we settled on GOTHS = Geocachers Of The HillS as we all lived on one of one type or another. [:o)] We didn't just 'turn up' and cache. Many months of planning and puzzle solving went on before we made our way over and so we had some target caches and series to have a go at. Today was the Fish GeoArt series - and anything else that was nearby in our travels. Once again the planning by the mega committee and to local cachers made our stay fantastic. [^][^]
Thanks Rebel Acts for this cache.

One for “Steve” was certinally the case for this cache. He was in the hole.
On a 6 day tour of Victoria with Barnzy12. Taking the red eye over from Perth we managed to visit some great places. The main reason for the travel was the Mega event in Alexandra and the opportunity to find 12 cache types in a day.
We originally travelled to Phillip bay, then up through the country side to Alexandra. Spent a few nights staying high in the snowfields and then moved over to Mt Disappointment. We then ended up back where we started returning the hire car at the airport to fly home.
Some quality caches were found all over the state, great to get a real range of cache sizes with some very large caches compared to what’s available in WA and the range of D/T options so close to each other was a bonus.
Thanks to all the Cache owners for you placements and creativity put into hiding and have awarded a few fav points based on this or the location it bought us too.

In Melbourne with Cravo10 to attend the Mega in Alexandra.
We took the red eye from Perth, leaving at 1am Thursday morning, and departed Melbourne early Tuesday morning, so it was a short five day trip.
We managed to snag a couple of nice stats for the trip. First mega event, 12 cache types in a day, 10 lab caches, 50th large cache find, and most importantly my 10,000th find at Mount Disappointment.
We spent the first day on a caching run from
Melbourne to Phillip Island where we had booked into the local caravan park for the evening. We cached all day chasing down a number of the whereigo and puzzle caches from the CF series, before ending the day caching the extremities of Phillip Island, where we had both never been, an amazing part of this country.
Next morning we cached our way to Alexandra which was the main reason for our trip to Melbourne as we had both never managed to attend a mega, which were hoping to rectify in WA next year! Attended the pre event and managed to get a couple of group FTFs by torchlight which was a real highlight.
Saturday we cached in and around Alexandra all day, chasing numbers, the highlight of the day would have to be the birdbox hides around Alexandra and the multi in Bonnie Doon from that famous TV show, a real nice touch!
Sunday was an epic caching day, chasing down 12 types in a day, which required a couple of huge drives to claim some of the rarer icons around. A huge caching stat which is a very rare feat in the Southern Hemisphere. We finished the day travelling to Mount disappointment where we found Melbourne's 1st cache and then started making a dent in the powertrail, finishing by torchlight.
Our last full days caching was spent at Mount Disappointment to chase some big numbers and with a few caches around the burbs for good measure.
Special thanks to all the wonderful COs around Melbourne for their brilliant caches, and to the mega committee for organising a ripper event, hope to be back next year!

Finally the weather had moved on and today was a chance to grab the local caches around the Mega. TFTC.
Found on the way to our camp site, the day before the mega event.
A bit early for check-in, so a couple of caches were found.
On the road with d@geo
Thank you for the cache Rebel Acts

At Alexandra now with the view to attend the Mega. Our main aim was to collect the fish puzzles. We stopped to collect a few extra caches today, this being one of them. An amazing old tree on the wy to the event.
The countryside around Alexandra is beautiful. Found and logged under the caching collective name of GOTHS.
Thanks for the hunt here Rebel Acts

Meeting up with 2Hinemoa6 in Bacchus Marsh and then Aussie M & M and Brisal5 both from SA in Broadford the team is nearly complete. Mogni and Team Astro will meet us at our headquarters (Maybole Cottage) for the next few days.
Our farm stay has everything required for a very pleasant few days.
Up early and ready for a long day caching we stopped at this cache as it was on our list, soon located, log signed so on to the next. To save space in the logs we logged as GOTHS or GOTHS + 2 as we all live in the hills.
With hundreds of caches to log most will be cut and paste but I do thank all the owners for their thought and effort that has gone into placing a huge variety of hides around this very beautiful area.
By now we were wet through but a few to go.
We were late attending the event close by because of the injury to one of our members but we made it and on the way home we grabbed this interesting guy, the tales this old fella could tell!!!
Thanks Rebel Acts for placing this cache. A F.P.

Found as part of my 2017 Alexandra Mega experience with the GOTHS This cache added to the fun and enjoyment of my trek to the east and back from Adelaide. While there were a few thunder storms, there were mainly clear skies and I never saw a snake! [^]
Thanks to Rebel Acts and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!
Today we became the GOTHS which was made up of Aussie M & M, brisal5, 6Hinemoa2, Bushfire, Team Astro and myself. What a team of geocachers!
We had an amazing adventure over the long weekend and my apologies for the generic logs. This is a wonderful part of the world and well worth a visit. The geocaches are just a bonus really.
Thanks from mogni

Around Alexandra for the mega event this weekend. What an amazing tree. I Wonder how old this one is. TFTC
On our way to the MEGA #AXA!!! We have arrived in Alexandra and here is a signed log to prove it! I'm so happy, up until Monday, I had to work today meaning I wouldn't be driving up until evening, but finally some luck came my way and I was able to take the day off and get some caching done!
Tally Tiger and I argued about what was meant by WP1's question, but Zedaycee attempted both (I was right!) And we were off. A simple drive-by of WP2 on the way to lunch got us the next coords and then it was off to do various caches on the way.
I love this kind of GZ! Thanks for bringing us here!

What a beautiful old tree. Even with her damage she keeps on going strong. With Zedaycee and Angelique Anja.
A quick early morning find after checking out the venue for tonight's event. TFTC.
That is one mighty tree. Quick find where all good at GZ. Thanks for another smilie.
Great to be over this side of the ditch for a few days with my key focus being the Mega in Alexandra and associated activities. I’ll be taking some ideas back to New Zealand so as we plan for a major Event next year we can look to implement some of the great things from Melbourne.
Did you know that planning has started for a major Event in the Wellington region in 2018? Check out the details on the [Wellington Event NZ (WENZ) Website](https://sites.google.com/site/wenzgeo2018/home) or visit the event’s page on [FaceBook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/590545297801072/). The official cache page is now live [GC78NMQ - WENZ Event 2018](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC78NMQ_wenz-event-2018-wellington). If you are planning to attend, please ensure you let us know through this page.
Thanks to the Cache Owner who has gone to the trouble of creating this cache, determining the coordinates and then averaging them to make sure they are accurate, placing the cache and registering it online for our enjoyment. Without Cache Owners doing their bit, there wouldn’t be a fun hobby that we all love - so again a big THANK YOU.

The day before the Mega starts, we had a nice day caching around Alexandra and the immediate surrounds.
An amazing location, and we scared a couple;e of swallows from their nests as we entered unfortunately, but the cache was found in good order.

Day 2 of our trip to Alexandra for the Mega. NationalSteel and I travelled via Beechworth to tackle some more of the HSS series. After checking into the hotel we attended the event and tried for a few last caches on the way back to the hotel.
Wow! "Found it", said NationalSteel. "Where are you?" I asked. "Inside the tree!" What an amazing tree! Another great location we would not have found were it not for geocaching.
The cache was in good condition. We took nothing, left nothing, signed the log and replaced the container as found
Thanks Rebel Acts for the cache.
