Were there, at the tree, over the broken fence but could not find the GZ. Very disappointing.

10-Aug-19
After finishing up diving the Shaft and having a pub lunch with the group, I had a free afternoon to head around to collect some geocaches. I concentrated on Caveton and around Penambol Conservation Park, as there were a few geocaches I hadn't found, with a few that hadn't been found for a few years! Opportunity or challenge? Well, more of the challenge actually.

This one was sooooo disappointing to not have found this one! Had to leave with the DNF.

It sounded like a really cool place to see a large cave/sinkhole, and it not being found for 3.5+ years also meant it would be a nice find. Like many others before me, I ended up having to drive loops around until I thought I couldn't get any closer. I was going to accept a 300 m walk through dense terrain, but in the end, parked at a fire track to be around 180 m from GZ. And yep, the walk was tough, and wasn't the most helpful with a headache that had come on just before I had set off. There was some nice bits, and then there were crawls and climbs whilst trying to dodge those prickly plants. You know it's a tough slog when you're looking down at your GPS every 10-20 m as if it is almost a "are we there yet?" moment. One cool aspect was encountering another sinkhole, Cave L082, before finding Acacia Cave, Cave L064.

Eventually I made it, and I was seriously impressed at this local secret. The sinkhole was deep, and I made sure to take extra precaution around the edge. Once my admiring was over, I began to look. There were a few obvious and large tree trunks around GZ that were just yelling for a cache, but search as I might, no cache was found. I crawled some more and looked around more trunks around the vicinity, but nothing hidden that I could find, and with all the challenge of getting to GZ, I ended up having to leave empty handed. Bugger indeed. A cool site, and if only it was connected by path to a track, it would be a nice sight.

a parking wp would make life a lot easier on this one. Decided at 530 pm I should go and find somewhere to stay for the night instead of trying to find a close spot to park, after driving in circles.

We are staying at Beachport for a 4 night camping trip with Earthlight & muggle friends, no electricity as we are camping in the national park, it has been a fantastic time spending time down this way finding caches along the way, another quick and easy find for us today : ) TFTC

25-Jan-16
Although a reasonably quick find when at GZ can't say the same for the walk in the terrible Jungle to locate.
Found with 3LG.
A nightmare of a walk.
Drove round in circles trying to locate shortest way in.
Fav point all the same.

In the Mount for the Goths dinner event and the Geozing Race and of course...caching Cool Out for the afternoon with Aussie M&M and Mogni.

Have parked on the wide firetrack we forged a path where there was none. Occasionally there was an animal trail but mostly it was stepping over and under branches and bushes, backtracking from inpenetrable scrub and a few falls over logs that collapsed as I went over. Got there in the end and got the smiley. Smile left a PT for the next intrepid explorer. Had marked the car as a WP and laid a track but took a more circuitous and easier route back. Gets a fav point for the adventure. Thanks scojohara. Big Grin

Well scojohara, we haven't met yet, but as we approached this cache, I read out the description. A naughty friend of mine (mogni) laughed as I mentioned your vertical challenge. Aussie Mark and brisal5 are both over 6 foot so they really enjoyed getting to this cache. As did Mary of the dodgy back and amazingly bad balance. Only almost fell twice and brisal5 was there to save her both times... Lovely end point, enjoyed the laughs as we called out to each other on our 3 different paths in. Not real paths of course. A favourite for us for the laughs, the exercise and the view at GZ. TFTC.

29-Jun-13
I had been near by before, but as I was left guarding the car, I hadn't logged a find. So had some visitors that didn't quite know what they were getting themselves into so off we went Smile I generously made a clearish trail for Aussie Mary, a few extra scratches and bruises.
Anyhow we made it Smile
thanks

Make sure you know which way your car was! Got lost for an hour!! And yes I wish I was a geo dog to get through some of that Forrest! There is no distinct path! Lost my drivers license, so if you find it post it to me!

29-Apr-13
Warning excepted, no tall jokes would love to be short like my dog for this bush bash! And bash it was, glad I wore long pants but those spikey things are not cool!! So we got to the GZ no fence in sight but got the dog on the lead.. And for my dog who hates heights I was surprized she was sniffing the edge while I found the cache! Least on our way back we found an easyer path! Great cache thanks

31-Mar-13
Was able to drive right round the cache to within a few hundrd metres from all sides but couldn't see any access to get to GZ. Gave it a miss as it was raining and didn't want to get soaked from bush bashing.

Sunday at BLE and Huurtle, Dennisc52 and I set off to replace a cache Smile which had been lost in the recent bushfires Sad

There were a few caches on the way and, luckily for me, the boys were happy to head for Dartmoor where a couple of months ago in 40 odd degree heat while riding my motorbike back from Halls Gap I had stopped briefly, seen the nearby caches and just been too darn hot and tired to get any...... so today was the day [^] Cool

Later on, we met up with Honeysucker and firesafe and continued caching until well after dark: 4WDing on dirt roads, beaches and through the forests Big GrinCool [^] Cool

A HUGE day of attempting 47 caches: 45 successful locus cache events [^] and only 2 DNFs Sad

I have a badge that says 'Bushwhacking rarely saves time but it makes for a more interesting log entry' Wink

If there was an easier way into this cache, then we sure did not find it! Sad

However half the fun of caching is never knowing where you will end up and the view, albeit through brush, was hugely interesting at the end of the hike in Cool

Amazing spot and thanks guys for waiting for me at the end Smile

ps that beer was hugely appreciated after this effort, firesafe, and I was only sad that my offer to buy more later was shut down by the pub being shut down too Sad

SL. TFTC scojohara Smile

Spent the afternoon getting a few caches with other teams from the BLE.

Well that was an adventure on dusk and what a drop at GZ. TFTC. Big Grin

20-Jan-13
Locus Cache, DennisC52, and myself joined up with FireSafe and HoneySucker to continue caching. This time on our way to Beaker's 'Border Bottom' cache and Margaret Rose Caves area....

Well, for bushbashing expeditions today, this one is at the top! With no track to follow, just some animal trails, we all bashed our way to gz to be greeted by a massive SHEER drop! Smile Definately not a good place to be in the dark, and the sun was fast setting while here!
Took a little while to find, but got there in the end. Damn glad I didnt bring Scojohara's GPS TB for a visit! lol
Definately worked up a sweat on this one!

What a spot. A great sink hole even if I did not get too close. It was a great walk in, but it did take a bit to find as the gps was about 7m off. On the way back to the car even found five emu eggs. TFTC.

12-Aug-12
Got to within 19m couldn't get closer

14-Jul-12
Found it in cooperation with schwarzc. Now, one month later, i'm still talking about that cache (so i think i have to log it, too) and telling everyone about wombat holes, funnel web spiders and that kind of REAL native forest. In Germany, i think, that would be terrain 4 (or maybe + !?). During our trip it was the only time to see a real wombat - or better: its backside Wink
I hope the wombats didn't eat the meerkats!!
TFTC =)

I drove around in a big circle trying to find an easy way in, but had to settle for the closest point which was on the south side and left me with a bush bash of approximately 150m to GZ. And bush bash it was, the scrub being very thick. I spotted one snake and wonder how many I didn't see but got in and out unscathed. I also found the cache. Couldn't see a great deal of the sink hole with the rampant growth, but it certainly appeared deep. Thanks for the cache scojohara

Found by Mary & David at 0910. Wouldn't like to try this one in the wet. A few small roos about. We parked as close as we could get and took a waypoint to mark the parking spot. We looked for the least dense bush as our point of entry and followed the sunlit patches in more or less the right direction. That gave us a route that was reasonably open, with only a few low branches to duck under or step over. As always, David had an encounter with a prickly branch and shed some blood. Despite that, the going was easier than feared, although it would be very easy to get lost in there without the GPSr for guidance. Once we spotted the remains of the fence, we followed it around to GZ. Found the cache in the second place we investigated. That is quite a hole too! We reckon if you fell in, you'd end up at Piccaninnie Ponds. Our thanks to scojohara.

Enjoyed the scrub walk to get this one TNLNSL

Searched the whole block for a track leading in and without finding one we started off the closest point. We found a vague track to follow about half way in. What an amazing feature this one is, I only wish I was gamer to have a closer look, as it sooo deep you only get glimpses of the bottom. Thanks to scojohara for bringing me here

Stopped at a track junction and took off from there. Apparently AMc has a tendancy to veer left but we got to GZ OK. Checked out the sinkhole then found the cache.
Came out onto the track about 50m from the cachemobile.
Thanks scojohara

Found on the Adrian Mc + Swampy 'Caching from Hobart to Adelaide & Beyond' tour.

Our first find for the day after spending the night nearby.
We almost did this one at night but after reading the cache notes decided not too.
Wise descision really considering the lack of phone service to call for help if something happened.

I think I fluked this find found first place i looked. Had Manyarat along side and was most disapointed as he had been there last weekend with no joy. Seen no wriglers thank god. Thanks for the walk we enjoyed it.

Like others before us, we circumnavigated this one looking for better access, none is to be found at all, so resigned to the fact, we did the final 150mtrs or so through the scrub.

Found the cache easily, found some smaller sinkholes on the way back, would have loved to have had my rope gear to investigate.

Cheers

24-Jun-07
After zig zagging through the forest on the fire trails the time came to face the scrub [:o]
Only about 150metres, but lovely scratchy scrub Smile
The sinkholes here would be real easy to fall into if you weren't watching where you were going and didn't see the fence lying in the grass [:o]
More like about 50feet down too !!
Very impressive to see them hidden away in the forest like this instead of surrounded by viewing platforms and the like Big Grin
Thanks for an interesting bush bash.

11-Jun-07
I circumnavigated this looking for the closest parking but I still ended up with a 200m bush bash. I don't know about the acacia but that nasty prickle bush slows progress. About half way in I discovered an old emu's nest with one long-abandoned and sun-bleached egg. A bit later I came across some abandoned watering drums but I presume in this secluded wilderness the gardeners weren't growing roses!

Once at GZ I quickly logged my find and admired the impressive hole and then backtracked out to my car.

Thanks scojohara, this style of cache with a bushwalk to a spectacular feature is my favourite.

10-Jun-07
Strangely we didn't have much bush bashing to do... found our way in quite easily. Glad we took the advice and marked the car first, easy to get disorientated in here!
The sinkhole looks a lot deeper than the description implies!

09-Jun-07
We will have to work a bit harder to find this cache. Got to within 200m. No further though. Our track looks like a spiral. We needed to do a couple of more spins though.

Heaps of emus and park rangers in the forest. Just missed one. I reckon the bar on the soob gave him a shave.

07-Jun-07
Took a while to find this one but after the trip in didnt want to go away without the find.
It certainly would be risky at night time that last step would be a doosey
Remembered to waypoint the car for a change.
Dont you just love getting back so easily with a GPS would have been a challenge without one.

27-May-07
Phew... got there at last. Ended up scratched, bruised and sore but finally after a good 20 minutes of searching came up with the goods. Pamir52 was in tow as well and between us we must have checked every log within 50 metres. Sinkhole quite speccy as was a pair of deep cave entrances nearby. These were quite deep so please look after kiddies closely.

Thanks

CoolA great arvo with Beakers Bunch in the field. This was the most challenging of the arvo as it became dark the bush became thicker, but with got there in the end, just watch out the the sink holes.Surprised
WinkRemember to log your location before going in the scrub it WILL make it easier to find your way out again.[^] Watch out for skippy!!!!Cool

Found after an interesting scratch and bang walk in..Came across a sinkhole 90m from GZ so I had a quick look at that before moving onto the main prize.
Great area this and definately one I would never had got to.
Thanks for a good start to the arvo caching
Thanks Scojohara

YESSSS! Another First to Find for Team BiggoBig GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig Grin
This was one that was definately well earnt! Dunno if I approached this one from the wrong angle, but found myself bush bashing and forest crawling for quite some time (over 500 metres!maybe double thatWink) When i finally reached the cache, darkness was quickly descending. $hi+ was my first and last thought before I quickly scribbled something in the log and hightailed it out of there. Luckily I took a reading from the car before I entered the murky depths of the jungle and returned safe and sound with only a few tears to clothes and skin. A truly intriguing cache, and thankyou to Scojohara for making it an easy find, or I may still be there.
