With no more logs and no response to the Needs Maintenance request for many months, perhaps this one needs some Admin attention.
Looks like the area may have had a clean up since the last find almost a year ago. No container could be seen at GZ which is now quite open.
Day 5 of the Perth to Adelaide trip where we started in Whyalla and ended in Adelaide.
Today was about finding as many caches as possible and starting / warming up to the larger power trails that bought us over here.
We completed the FTF series and the Letterbox caches.
During the morning we found the majority of the days caches, some highly favourited first up also.
Anyway the day has time limitations to it as we were hosting an event that started at 6pm and as it were we made it there at 5.59pm so early however the crowd of people there before us was rather pleasing.
It was great to see so much energy around Geocaching at the event the Adelaide teams really know how to impress and greet the visitors with a beer, thanks Freddo!
Bunya I found your cache Rudder thanks for placing this hide for myself and others to find.

#6553 - 10:30; Day 8 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune and albida33, so most logs were signed S.A.L. as a result. Caching in and around Whyalla today and along the roads into and out of town we collected 69 finds and 6 DNFs. We visited many places of interest today in our travels and most of our finds were in good condition. Gathered the information we needed and then set course for GZ. We managed to get close enough that we were able to make the find. TFTC Bunya
Alice trip 2017. Day 6. With Sol de Lune and LuckL10n we spent today caching around Whyalla during a bit of s detour on our drive to Alice Springs. Heaps of caches with lots of DNFs we skipped but me managed a good day of caching. The sign is very impressive and the course got us close enough for a find.
Thanks.

On the road to the Alice Springs Mega with LuckyL10n and Albida33. We headed through Burra and Port Pirie before arriving in Port Augusta for the trek up the highway. Collected a good number of caches and all were found with no issues and the logs were soon signed. (Some logs were signed as S.A.L. to save space.)
Thanks for the cache and fun in getting to it and finding it.

Found with Alansee and Hearse068 while in the area. We are heading to Alice Springs to the Easter Event and doing as many caches along the way, this is one we stopped at. We are on Day 4 of our trip having loads of fun travelling around Port Augusta and Whyalla area today. Thank you for placing this cache for us to find.
7 April 2017 3:38 PM Found with Gonefishen07 and Alansee on our little adventure . We are making our way to Alice Springs for the Mega event. We are doing some caches along the way this is one of them . Thank you for taking the time to place the cache
I had arranged to meet some friends in town and had time to do one more - or so I thought! I was on the way to GZ when their car turned up having seen mine as they were driving past. As well they did as I hadn't found the hide but Hearse walk right up to it!
3LG and I are caching our way around Whyalla and catching up with The X-Trailers .
We have several days here to cache as much as possible.
A quick find .
It is many years since I have travelled around this area.

After a couple of attempts and a talk to Tempo, I was able to return today and had an easier find after some of the vines had been removed and cache replaced.
Thanks Bunya for the cache and Tempo for the clean up.

I was steered to the big bit of metal by my GPS this morning
Alas my misreading of the instructions steered me to the wrong GZ [:o]
After a bit of poking around the general area, I had to wander back over to the sculpture, where I discovered my navigational error !!
Oh it's the Costa Concordia all over again
I did eventually manage to right meself and find the cache

We have finished out Grey Nomad tour of Western Australia and are staying in Whyalla for awhile before heading off to Murray Bridge to attend the "Oz Mega 2014 Murray Bridge" over Easter.
Today was another relaxing day caching around town. There were some workers with a backhoe nearby, but they disappeared for lunch just as we approached GZ.
[/blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: Excellent (We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.)
Cache Condition: Container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Cache trash.
Left: Smiley Badge
Thanks Bunya for the hunt today.

After completing our trek along the Googs Track and back through the Gawler Ranges, it was time to rack up some numbers in the Whyalla area - gee there are a lot of caches around here.
Today our focus was on the August Pipeline series then north east to Point Lowly area finishing a little earlier today at 7:30pm. TFTC.

Nice park here. Saw a railway worker. Took spider, left golf ball.

Took geoson out with me for this one - let him do the maths! Quick look around and spotted it. TFTC
It was found after being told by another of this cool world of geocaching. Thanks for the intro now back at home on the hunt for others
i saw the box and picked it up had a look and threw it back, the next day i was a bit intrigued as to what it was so i went back and opened it and now here i am. Thanks. great idea cant wait to find more.
Had trouble with the steering directions, but sailed a course along the 'x' meridian. Hove-to at a likely looking spot and sent a boarding party to secure the prize.
Worked out co-ords with google earth, walked straight up to the bush (which I'm sure is much bigger than when the cache was placed) and saw the prize.
Never had a reason to go close to the Rudder before - thanks for taking me here.

Found it on a lunch time cache hunt. Was right where I expected it to be!!. TFTC
A nice kid friendly multi. Search at GZ took a bit as it was well into the bush. TFTC.
Fun cache to find with geokids and geomissus in tow. Container needs repainting, stands out pretty bad.
I was riding passed this spot and thought I would give it a shot. In the end an easy find.TFTC.
Found reasonably quick. Found by geomum, retrieved by geojunior and replaced by geosenior. SL, TFTC.

I don't think I noticed this structure on the way into town but it sure is impressive.
The maths were pretty straightforward, and although my bearing was off by around 5-10m the clue got me there pretty quickly. TFTC!

WOW massive rudder.... I didn't know how the cache got its name until I was at GZ. LOL!
Interesting spot. Did my calculations and found the cache reasonably easy. The disturbed garden beds are not at GZ thankfully.

WooHoo, found it... took a bit of searching but eventually found it. Cache in good condition
Rated: for Overall Experience
Cache is still in place - though I didn't get to check the container as muggles were around.
Had a really good look for this one two days in a row. Recently the gardeners have cleared the beds completely...I'm thinking its gone.

Found this one by accident -my first find which is why Im here visiting this site today
We had fun doing this cache & the southerly blew us well past the rocks today!!!
Cheers & happy caching.
Cheers & happy caching.
I was on my way back to Whyalla to catch my plane so I only had time for a couple of caches. This one caught my fancy as I wanted to investigate the rudder and I like projection caches too.
Stinking hot too so I went out and got the info first and back in the car made it all work.
Back out again in the fierce heat but not for long as the cache was right where I wanted it to be.
Thanks Bunya

With a south wind, we was able to navigate past rocks, got the right bearings, without muggles, landed ashore, and located the cache, TFTHSL L-Pirate toy Coin, Glow in dark Lizard, and T-Toy Car. (although the cache is slightly damage missing a Lug from lid when found). Well done Bunya liked this one.
Did first stage a few weeks back but never finished it as i did it in the dark came here the day b4 but teen muggles were playing guns close by. Came back this day and no one around, quickly found cache where the teens where playing. Container all ok replaced back and put leaf litter on top. SL TFTC
(ps) wife ran with kids to wave to train silly wife ran with iphone a dropped it completed the cache, drove to next one and relised that we didnt have it. so we drove back to this cache and the one b4 and back to this one and yepshe found it.

Hi
I was driving through Whyalla and decided t drop in on this cache on the way through.
Found it too easily (In the rain again). I did not have a GPS with me an did not read the plaque for further instructions. I took a guess at where it might be and found it straight away.
Tool RSPCA pen (Nice pen. Thanks) and left "Popatop" the Geo Traveler. We have had some Beers together. Farewell my friend.
Regards

Yes, I can definitely concur it is still there Bunya. Got terribly wet (or just got finished off after looking for ...to be continued). Thought I worked out where it should have been and ended up in the middle of nowhere. Looked around for a bush where it could be hidden, set about searching and after several spot changes struck pay dirt.

Definitely still here...even found it in the dark, but i did know where to look. Picked up the GC that has been here for ages.
Did the maths, did the calculations, did the walking (even checked distance via the GPS) but couldn't find it (we even looked really hard) Will continue to read the logs.
Done and done, glad to have checked that one off my list its been bugging me for a little while.

Well another one to cross off the list in whyalla. Well was here once before but had no papers to tell us what we were looking for. Thank God that i have a man that knows things about the degrees an true east or i would be lost.
Did the calculations which put me in the area I expected. Looks like the rudder has not seen water for a while. Neither has the fountain (pic). Someone once told me the upside down rudder signified the end of ship building in Whyalla. IS that a true story?
Clear skies and thanx Bunya from TeamAstro.

Second last cache of 10 attempted today. Grabbed the required answers, projected GZ on my GPS and headed there. It took a bit of searching before the cache was found. Nothing was taken, but I did leave a pen somewhere around GZ. Thanks again to Bunya.
TB Ernie had been left here for a while, so I swapped it for the Flower of Life geocoin owned by "ernies"!
Found the first stage and worked out the clues easily enough. Then found the correct GZ, but had a little difficulty locating it, Bubbles8 to the rescue again!! TFTC
Curses...thought i would have a first FTF here, but unfortunately I was sharked to it by a small margin. Anyway, took japanese warrior, left the medium lizard and dropped off the Ernie TB. A good hide Bunya...took a while to ferret it out. I had also been nosing around here in the past few weeks, just thinking it would be good spot for a multi....
Found by Mary & David at 0745. We didn't expect a FTF in Whyalla! We were staying in town overnight, on our way home from WA, when Melbourne friends left us a voicemail to say there was a new cache here. We admired the sculpture and the view, and the roses at this time of day were great. Did the maths and found the cache on our second pass. Took bottle opener, left smiley stamp and a mondo doll. Collected our FTF prize; the penny will appear in our next cache as requested. Also collected Bunya's Happy Toadstool Geocoin, but we'll drop it off in another local cache. Our thanks to Bunya for the early morning workout.
Bugga!! Missed out on grabbing this one, should have come down this weekend instead of last.
Good to see more caches being placed, keep up the great work Bunya.[^][^][^]
