Perth/Darwin TripGreat to finally have found this cache with some help from caching mates on the solve. Joolay and I are travelling to WA and NT to qualify for a challenge that requires you to find a cache in every Australian state in a calendar year. Thanks for hiding and maintaining this cache gibbo003
Solved before coming so great to find this today.Perth visit over and now for NT chasing all States and Territories in a year with Kittykatch. Looking forward to the adventure. Thanks for getting me out and about gibbo003
A quick 5 day trip to Darwin included finding this cache. This is my first trip to the northern territory and is my final state / territory in Australia to visit. The weather was certainly different to Tasmania. It is great to explore another part of Australia.
TFTC,A quick find at GZ but wow, without the guidance from a friend who has previously used an app, I would never have solved this.Visited trackables and added a favourite.
No snake today guarding the cache, solved the puzzle quick find on reaching GZ. Stamped log and left trackable and replaced . Thanks to CO
Im back in Darwin for a week visiting family and spending a little time each day geocaching. I had looked at these two enigma puzzles some time ago but didnt get anywhere with them. But this morning, I easily solved this one with an online solver.Walking towards gz, I could smell a dead animal but luckily didnt see anything. At gz, I started looking low but then found it higher up. Logbook signed and replaced as found. Tftc Find #5445
OCW PelDroedGwin and geodog Peppa Exploring the northern suburbs today. I really enjoyed this puzzle ! Tftc
Found just before heading to the airport. It was a treat to get a work trip to Darwin, but it was a big tease to get less than 24 hours in this fascinating place. I had time for very few physical caches due to work commitments. But this cache was near the top of my list. I had spent longer than expected on solving it back at home. The first tool I used didn't work, no matter how I tweaked it. The site I used to use had gone the way of the dodo. In the end, I used a site that I hadn't come across before, and it worked. Hooray! I ran out of time to solve the other Enigma puzzle.Quick find at GZ, fortunately. I had a plane to catch.TFTC!
pineapplegoldy and my newly signed up friend "goldyscacheelf" are in the NT for a few days. There isn't much caching on the schedule, mostly just national parks and croc jumping tours. We explored the WWII tunnel museum and the aviation museum today. Then headed towards Fogg Dam and the croc jumping tour on the Adelaide River. We made a slight detour here for this D5 along the way.We made the trek into GZ, which proved a challenge with the amount of navigation around the bushes.Once we reached GZ, it was a quick find.We found shedded snake skin hanging from the cache. The cache was carefully opened (to not touch the snake skin) and the log was signed.A cool spot this. Thanks for bringing us here. Thanks gibbo003 for this mystery cache, which brings Goldy's total find count to 3969 on the 17th of February 2024.
After asking my friend to crack the code we all trudged around on a drizzly afternoon looking for this cache I'm.l pleased to say that our efforts were not in vain and managed to sign the elusive log TFTC Gibbo003
Hoorah! We have solved this Enigma puzzle. Groan! Geocaching reports that the cache is 'NE 8610.9 mi from your home location'. Perhaps we will be passing one day? Happy Hunting. PS: not all on-line Engima decoders work. So, try using more than one decoder.
On a trip to NT with TARDIS0061 & teamMerlin at the last minute. We grabbed a number of caches including solved puzzles, letterboxes and a few othersWith cache in hand we signed the log and replaced as found. Both the cache and log are igibbo003NTSTROMThe following TBs visited for the distance - Adventures with softball 29 and Harper, Govenor Lachlan Macquarie, Hawkesbury Tiger, phlphotos 2011 - 2023 NSW geocoin, phlphotos Cache In Trash Out Geocoin, phlphotos Cache In Trash Out Tag, phlphotos CITO Leaf Nano Geocoin, phlphotos CITO Micro Geocoin, phlphotos - CITO 2019 - 2022 Coin, phlphotos Four Elements Geocoin, phlphotos Optical Illusion Geocoin, phlphotos Spindoc Bob Memorial Geocoin, phlphotos Wheel of Caching Geocoin and phls silver ride
On a small cache run around Darwin with TARDIS 0061 and phlphotos for the weekend. This oe had been solved last week in preparation of our visit today. All caches found over the weekend were in good condition unless otherwise stated. We signed the log then replaced everything as found. Thanks for the cache gibbo003.The following TBs came through for the mileage: Bob geoMinion, Dave geoMinion, Evil geoMinion, Jerry geoMinion, Larry geoMinion, Mary Hyde's Treasure, Stuart geoMinion, teamMerlin's 7 Deadly Ducks Tag (Lust), Vanlith The Youngling, Hidden Creatures Geocoin TB, teamMerlin's Football
On a family holiday (from Queensland and South Australia) enjoying short sleeves and a swim in the middle of July! Cracked the enigma a day ago and while the kids and family enjoyed the nearby water recreation park, I snuck away down the road to find this one. Celebrated with a dip in the pool after.
This was my first mystery cache and I'm really grateful for the experience! TFTC

Today we flew into Darwin before heading to Kununurra tomorrow, so the obvious past time was to go do some caching! We had a great few hours caching around Darwin.
A very fun puzzle solve after a nudge from the CO, quick find at GZ although container is in disrepair…
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache gibbo003

Ignore previous log I sent, cache is still in good condition… We found a rusty metal throwdown from 2022 nearby, but original all in good shape… FP added.
We’ve removed the throwdown.
We’ve removed the throwdown.

We’ve just arrived in Darwin. We're off again in the morning, so instead of sitting by the pool, rented a car and went caching. We aimed primarily at some D:T's we are chasing, with a few extras here and there. It was a big shock to the system after caching all day in Goulburn last weekend in 9 degrees max temps!
Great puzzle, once we had the required ’hardware’, as our trusty decoder wasn't up to scratch today, it would not have won the war! At GZ we removed the rusty tin with wadded log sheet that was hidden nearby - ?was it a throwdown or other cache submission attempt…. No snake today too - always a plus.
Thanks for the cache!

We headed East today before going South as we wanted to grab some cool caches in this area, I think we missed one we could get too but you cant find everything.
This trip was sort of in place of a trip to a Mega that got canceled due to accommodation problems, I was quite happy when Goose said do you fancy to caching break in the Northern Territory as this would be the last State or Territory for me in Australia.
Our plan was to fly into Darwin on the Friday night have a couple days in the area then start heading South stopping overnight whenever we needed to, our next goal was the drive to the geographic centre of Australia at Lambert Centre and then head back to Alice to fly home ten days later.
We both had a great trip finding some important old caches, large ones and the odd clever one too, we found Ammo Cans all over the place which was nice as i think we have found most of the ones at home in Tassie.
Thanks for the cache.

I just love an Enigma Challenge !!!
Methodically worked thru the codes required to setup the Enigma machine
And HOORAY, the message was deciphered on first attempt !!!
A quick stroll into GZ, and the cache was soon located, TFTC gibb0003, FP awarded for the Enigma puzzle !!!

Greetings from the ACT! TikvaNZ and I are finally in Darwin after our initial plan to travel to Darwin in May 2020 was thwarted by COVID 19 travel coming to a grinding halt! Just here for the weekend, so focusing on different types, counties and a few different DT combinations!
Today is picking up different types and a couple of extra counties out west. Then back to the airport at night for the overnight flight back to Sydney.
Solved this one back in 2020 in preparation for the trip that got cancelled. Luckily I knew of a good tool that would help solve it. A short walk (happily given it was 37 degrees) to GZ from the parking, and a quick find. Dropped a pathtag for the next finder.
Thanks gibbo003 for the cache and the fun!

AngelG27 and I are finally in Darwin from Canberra for the weekend. This trip was originally booked for August 2020, so we are using up our travel credits. Today's focus was the two TE caches, cache types plus a couple more counties, then various D/T combinations. A very hot day had us sweating profusely after the short wander to GZ. Cache easily found. AngelG27 solved this prior to our original anticipated trip. TFTC.

I had looked at these during numerous other Darwin trips, but knowing my window of opportunity for being able to collect them was very limited now that the husband is in his final year of posting it was time to get it done. Of course since my initial look the enigma machine I have used before is dead - thankfully I found a much better user friendly one and I was able to plug away at my hearts content with some understanding and managed to crack the code. At my event this morning I joined forces with a previous finder and two other locals to show me the back roads in to this.
Lots of fun and a FP is a mere token. As Low1 had been here last she was prepared with new paper and plastic sleeve, we incorporated the new into the old so they are together but separated.

Thanks for this hide. After the event we went to get this one and found it in team work.
A favourite point for the great idea.

Dropped by to lend a hand after the event today. Jacs and Brilou9 thank you for the fun times. Cheers visited with some TB's, including a past finder whom wanted his TB to revisit sites and caches in the NT. Cheers and happy caching.
Yay I finally got back to Darwin. My geosis Low1 asked for help with these and I couldn't resist. I LOVE enigmas.

We found this Enigma puzzle to be slightly less challenging than the other one, and all fell into place fairly quickly for this one.
While visiting Darwin, this was definitely one of our target finds, and on a hot winters day, we took a short walk to GZ where we found the container and added our name to the log.
Thanks gibbo003

On my way to Perth via Darwin with a few detours for LGAs. TFTC.
A great puzzle and history. I thought no worries, I have done this before. Still took ages but was great when the text showed.
Found cache location and there was an old tin. Looks like from the 1940s. Lid was rusted shut.
Looked around for a while but decided this was worth more of a look. Managed to get it open and inside is a log book. Pages are stuck together but managed to pry some open and get my signature on it.

Wow this brings back fond memories of when we first worked on the Enigma machine - which thank goodness was available on the net. That was so cool when dak's Emu Mob put out the first enigma puzzle (that we knew of) in March 2004.
This one was similar and fun to work with as well.
Got to GZ - eventually after finding the right track - and then there was the cache even though there has been some burning off in the area.
Thanks gibbo003.

T-Tech and I have flown up from Brisbane for a mini-holiday with family. With a few hours before our meet up time at Litchfield Park later this afternoon, we targeted a few solved puzzles.
Having done a couple of Enigma puzzles before I was pleased to get this one to fall out pretty quickly. The bush on the short walk to GZ has been burnt so we were both pretty black by the time we reached the right spot, but the cache was a quick find. TFTC, gibbo003. Have a favourite point for the puzzle.

IolantheK and I solved a number of puzzle caches before we arrived from Brisbane.
This was one of them and we were eager to find it.
As we approached GZ we were a bit concerned that the area was a bit charred from a bush fire or hazard reduction burn. Either way we should have worried as the cache was tucked away well shielded from the heat and flame but unfortunately soaked through
Well at lease we found it and got to sign [^]

Found whilst visiting the region from Townsville. I needed to PAF to get help with solving this puzzle. Once at the GZ i was able to locate the cache fairly easily. I stamped the log and replaced the cache as found. TFTC.

Gee this was good to get done. Once I knew what was needed, I set to work. Very fun challenge and I had to use some ingenuity here.
The cache was found relatively quickly and after a quick check for any slithering creatures, I made the grab and added my name to the log. Cache is in reasonably good condition, but previous paper logs are damp and thanks to Low1, I was able to use their recent addition.
Thanks for this one. I had fun on this one.
Onto the next challenge.

TFTC Bit too much bush hike, 1 week ago, was hoping for a burn off, well that happened. Yes all the better to see you now. thank u to my sister geo 2. cheers
I have to solve an Enigma puzzle for the Coat of Arms Cache in QLD and I remembered this one for my sister - Low1 - who still lives in Darwin so I decided to give it a go.
This was really fun to work on and then of course I went on to solve #2 also (using a different enigma decoder).
I will get back up there one day just so I can claim the smileys for all the puzzles I am solving for my sis.

I'd solved this one before coming up here so with the others still on their way, I figured that I'd give it a shot. I was mindful of the reptilian cache guardian but he or she must have moved on in the almost 3 years since it was seen and so with spot on coordinates, I was signing the log at 12:40.

Thanks to Team Ionpaint, who solved the riddle. Thea are Masters in Enigma. Unfortunatly they can't go to Darwin, but they did a great Job.

I solved this mystery for training for another cache. This was a very educational mystery. The cache is over 11,000 km that I'm not coming to the cache right away. Thanks for the mystery and greetings from Finland.
Great little puzzle with plenty of historical pearls. It really is a facinating story how the unbreakable cypher was finally cracked at Bletchly.
Log book is soaked an unsignable. Might need a watertight container.

Found with Moneydork on a short trip to Darwin from Adelaide, primarily to find pre-solved puzzle and challenge caches.
I liked this cache for two reasons.
Firstly, I enjoy an enigma code puzzle.
Secondly, it was one of the better placed hides that I found on my trip to Darwin - it was a reasonable size, it was placed away from likely muggles, it was not in a spot likely to be regularly pruned, flooded or buried by leaf litter, and it was located so that it wasn’t likely to be destroyed by regular burning off. Its a pity more cache hiders dont seem to think about these things around Darwin.
Thanks gibbo003 for the puzzle and the cache. A favourite point from me.

Solved this neat little puzzle before we left home. Made our way to gz yesterday and made our way through the long grass to the cache. Clever hide and no snake in sight. Log was quite damp, so added new log for now. TFTC and for a great puzzle.
A memorable cache! Really enjoyed working out the puzzle and loved the hidey hole at GZ. Only problem was that lots of other things also loved the hidey hole! After moving the rock, a gecko ran out, then and I spotted the cache wrapped in what I thought was a rubber snake. Then it moved underneath the cache! Oh crap! Not wanting to give up, I tried to remove the cache using sticks but just couldn’t. Oh well, I was pretty sure it was just a python so I stuck my hand in and and pulled the cache out (in record time!). As I peered into the hole I noticed another gecko, a cockroach, a large cricket, and of course the snake. All of a sudden, the large cricket leapt out and hit me on the chest, and I squealed like a girl! With the adrenalin pumping I signed the logbook and pondered how to replace it. Not wanting to disturb the snake any more, I felt I needed to move the cache slightly. It’s only a few centimetres away and well hidden in a similar manner. I’ll message the CO as I’m not sure I’ll get chance to return before heading home to Sydney in a few days. TFTC! FP

Today we explored Darwin using Geocaching as a guide and picking up a few caches on the way and this was one of them. This was a very difficult puzzle, we spent some time on these challenges but had to have help to solve the co-ords. We had to fight our way through the long grass but got to GZ and what a great hiding place!
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Now visiting Darwin after the Red Centre Experience.
The plan today was to head out for a full day of caching but alas as so often happens we ended up doing jobs this morning and eventually left home, after 10am.
Was a tough day with humidiity and heat, green ants.
Managed to find a few caches and DNF a few more.
Mrs Felix solved this prior to our arrival in Darwin. Quick find today.

We hadn't looked at many Darwin puzzles before arriving so this was one we worked on while here. Unfortunately our working came to an abrupt halt and wouldn't go any further, so we called in the help. And as if the enigma didn't have enough twists, we then went ahead and put the corrected co-ords in the wrong cache. At least we had our wits about us when we found it......which brings us to........how on earth did you find this excellent hide?! TFTC gibbo003.
Darwin Day 2
Today we thought we would take a morning trip down towards Palmerston. Stopped for a few caches along the way.
Have done a couple of enigma caches while caching. Once at GZ very long grass greeted me, over my head at times. As I pushed mt way through I saw a likely hide ahead & it wasn't long & I had the cache in hand. No snakes seen during my search today.
Favourite point given for the puzzle
Thanks for placing this cache gibbo003

Have done a couple of enigma caches while caching. Once at GZ very long grass greeted me, over my head at times. As I pushed mt way through I saw a likely hide ahead & it wasn't long & I had the cache in hand. No snakes seen during my search today.
Favourite point given for the puzzle

The first Darwin Enigma Challenge was our second Enigma Cache to find. Why? I will tell you later.
After having done another Enigma Cache in Singapore with a lot of detailed knowledge it was not a big problem to go for this one. So enabled my simulator again and put in all the settings. And soon after the solution was at hand. Here I made a little mistake which lead to a problem when being in Darwin.
We tried to find the Cache 2 days earlier and the closest we could get was still 500m away from any road and no way visible. We still tried to cut through but fences stopped us. On this day we could at least find the Enigma Challenge 2.
We wrote to CO to ask how to get to GZ. He was answering soon and told us that this doesn't look correct. So checked our coords with us and he said that there was a mistake. So Enigma machine up and running again. Received almost the same result but coming back to my mistake earlier I. Tied done the minutes for East wrong . Changed it and had much more reasonable coords afterwards which were also close to Challenge 2.
So another try to find it today. We drove as close as possible and after going the last meters I saw some place suitable for the Cache. Removed the first stone and froze. A snake was curled above the second stone and the container. No chance for removing and I didn't even wanted to try. So a foto log must be enough this time.

I used to work at the Australian War Memorial which has an actual enigma machine on loan from a secret organisation on display in its WWII galleries. I love the machine and the story of the code breaking efforts. When I first saw this cache I ignored it as too hard, but then I was struck by inspiration and came up with a solving option which worked for me.
At GZ the spot revealed itself, but the cache was protected by a snake. Not a rubber "geocaching-jokes-on-you" snake but an actual, curled around the container, not happy to be disturbed snake. I decided to let discretion be the better part of valour and replaced the cover leaving the snake and the container in place - so I have not signed the log.
I hope you will allow me to log this as a find anyway, and I will return another day to try and complete the log signing duties. Thank you for a nice challenge and a good cache gibbo003

Suffering the puzzles of certain ACT hiders in the past, I had the tools and knowledge for this puzzle. Arriving today, we a little worried that the burn-off might have taken the cache but while I looked in the wrong place, Mummypenny was delighted to find the clever and unique hide. It seems some water has got to the log but its just a bit damp. Thanks gibbo003.
OMG so glad Baktrak has such a clever brain for theses enigmas, took us to a cache which will survive a long time as is a smart placement.

If there was one thing we just had to do whilst visiting Darwin, Mr T. stipulated it would be finding this & the CO's other related cache. He's a bit of a puzzle freak & Enigma codes are some of his special faves. So whilst Mrs T. did the sensible thing & retired to the luxury of Casuarina shopping centre for a "few hours" retail therapy, Mr T. sallied forth with corrected coordinates deduced so far in the distant past they're lost in the mists of time. Parked the 4t motorhome nearish & off into the scrub he went. Despite nearly a year of unlove, all's snug in a great hide gibbo003. Loved it so I've fave'd it.
The code is cracked. This was not my first Enigma puzzle that I solved. I love the Enigma caches. Thanks for the challenge it has fun great. Many greetings from Switzerland by Lex + Sheepy
Solved prior to our Darwin trip. Have to admire the work of the allied team that cracked it originally!
Left early but there was no one about at GZ. After dodging the refuse found an interesting hiding spot and the log was soon signed. Thanks Gibbo003.

We had a little help from a fellow Tasmanian cacher, with his guidance we solved this puzzle and were excited to go looking for a d5. We were a little disappointed with the amount of rubbish where we stopped the car but a few metres off the side of the track it was pristine. A clever hide whick a geocacher would notice easily but not muggles. The new growth in this area is stunning. TFTC
It took me a whole day to solve this puzzle. There was no way on earth that I was leaving Darwin with this one not found. I turn up. It is very unfortunate that locals find this location to be a suitable garbage dump ground.
After a nightmare of a decoding session and some help from some of my interstate and some local caching and puzzle masterminds. I finally cracked this one and was able to go and sign the log book. The cache is in good nick, the log book is a bit damp though. Saw a multitude of 6 legged wildlife and saw many beetles of a wide array of colors and sizes. TFTC
Log book and container is very wet and probably needs replacing. Solved this one on a sleepless night, wasn't too hard
As per darwin enigma 2 cache, also had puzzle solved but again lots of burning in this area during our recent trip vom darwin to alice springs. Found container missing and replaced with container we had with us. The hunt can continue ☺.
Solved the mystery but no luck with the container at gz. They recently burnt the grass but we didn't find any sign of a burned container so maybe the cache is still safe. Moved a lot of rock and saw a lo of small lizards. Thanks to gibbo003 for this enigma cache

Together with silli1310 we went to Australia for 3 months. Unfortunately they were gone again today and we had to bring back our beloved car. Before we handed it in, we still steered this solved mystery. Because these Enigma puzzles are quite common in Germany, it was clear what to do, so we could find the coordinates for this puzzle relatively fast. On the spot we could find the can without any problems and write down the coordinates in the logbook. Many thanks for the cache.
On our [trip around the world](http://www.hoppundweg.piekar.de/) we came to Australia as well. We started in Tasmania, rented a campervan in Melbourne and went up the Eastcoast to Cairns. Then we drove all the way to the Red Centre. We finished in Darwin. We searched many caches and found almost every cache we searched for . Thanks to all the owners of these caches. Now, 2 years later, we recognized, we will never be able to log every cache seperately... So: Sorry for this standard logtext and thanks for one of the caches, which accompanied us on our journey.
I had been saving this one to find on Pi Day as part of the challenge and to collect a souvenir.
This cache is probably best found during the dry season...... the grass was well over my head and I had thongs on. So I was pleased to find it relatively quickly. What a great spot for a cache..... certainly safe from any fires that are bound to go through here later in the dry.
I had recently seen the movie The Imitation game which inspired me to work this one out. Now to work out Enigma 2.

The 'non-caching other half' and I are visiting Darwin, Kununurra and Kakadu for two weeks to escape the cold in Melbourne. Of course a few caches are in order and this was one of them.
We are back in Darwin for the final few days of our trip, and with a fairly relaxed time planed, there are a few more caches I am hoping to pick up. I was both please to be able to solve this cache and I really enjoyed doing it. The hide area wasn't the most plesent place we have visited in Darwin, but the cache was tucked away in a ppretty neat place.
Thanks for the cache and the puzzle gibbo003.

As we head from town to town as part of our "Purposeful Meander around Oz" the Rats and the Mini Rats found this cache.
Having a mate back home who loves these machines has given me an insight into their works so I had solved this one before leaving.
Loved the hidey hole at GZ, it was like it was made for the cache
Thanks for being part of our great adventure.

Solved this one ages ago. Tried in the wet but didn't want to track through the bush. This time it's much clearer and easier to get through. Thanks. Took nothing but dropped a swap in for someone else.
Great cache, I worked through this one with my son and we had a great time! Thanks

Another morning drive around the Darwin suburbs on a perfect winter day.
Hardly any muggles around on a public holiday and mostly good quick finds.
There was some bugs guarding the cache & log sheet was a bit damp but OK.

Solved this puzzle a few weeks ago (thanks to some technological help!) but only found opportunity to find it today.
Found the obvious spot, but took me 10 minutes to find the obvious hide.
Nice effort in every way gibbo003 - definitely a favourite from me!

Found it with mafiagrl, earth_99, zeedda & young charlie_eagle. We picked up richlinks's path tag, our team's first piece of treasure. Loved the hiding spot and we are enjoying the enigma challenges.

Greetings from Atlanta, Georgia, USA! I stumbled upon this puzzle cache while solving the ENIGMA caches tagged on onkelb's bookmark listing http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=5c0f53dd-9939-4b1d-9a63-e6f8f5581099
Unfortunately I've never been to Australia and would love to visit this beautiful country someday. This puzzle is a quick solve once you know how to work your magic on a German Heer / Luftwaffe Wehrmacht Enigma M3 machine.

We've solved a few Enigmas now but this one still gave managed to give us a headache, thanks for refreshing the memory.
The puzzle was solved before we left Perth - not without a few headaches. Visited gz today and fortunately the find was a much quicker experience. Thanks gibbo003 for the challenge.

Spending time in Darwin to do some caching, relaxing and maybe some fishing.
This puzzle was solved some time ago in preparation for our visit to Darwin.
The cache was in a great hiding spot, but found quickly.
Thanks for the challenge, gibbo003.

The history of this cache find can be traced back a couple of weeks, to when I was traveling along the Savannah Way from Burketown to Mataranka.
An area well known in geocaching circles to contain few caches and not much wireless internet [:o]
Oh to have a satellite internet connection
It is on my wishlist
So there I was sitting by the camp fire around eight o'clock at night and looking through the cache notes for some of the puzzle caches around Darwin.
This one had all the info I needed to solve it contained within the GPX files
And of course my computer has a handy Enigma simulator programme already installed
So I now had something to do for an hour or so !!
I was faithful to the original Enigma machine and rather that just cut and paste the code in and watch the programme run, I typed all the letters in manually
It took ages !!
Which makes me realise how slow this machine really was !!
But the decrypted code came out clear and legible and I was finally left with a set of coordinates somewhere in Darwin that did not need a 'geochecker' to confirm them
So here I am a few weeks later in Darwin and after some wanderings around Holmes Jungle was headed for Fanny Bay for the night.
I could not resist stopping for this cache
I had been waiting eagerly to find it!!
And after a short stroll I made it to a likely hiding place.
I did not expect to find the cache quite where I found it !!!
And there is another enigma,
"What made such a perfect hiding spot for the cache ?" [:o]

# 3529. Today we are having a break from the bicycles and caching and sight-seeing by car. Travelling with a previous finder was a help here and we soon had GZ sorted. TFTC
Found whilst on holiday from Norway with my family (dad is A1HydeAndseek). We had a series of Enigma caches in Norway that we solved and just had to solve these too. Excellent journey on buses and by foot to get to the caches. TFTC.
I worked out the coordinates to this cache about 4 years ago after a set of Enigma caches were published in Oslo. Today we are in Darwin on holiday and of course I made time for a visit to this side of town. We took the 4 bus from the city and then the 2 to within 1km of the cache and walked the rest of the way. The cache was easily found and after ensuring there were no dangerous spiders living in the hiding place we picked it out and signed the log. Great fun to log a 5 star cache in Australia. Put in a coin that has no goal other than to travel around aimlessly

Well work gave us the chance (orders) to go to Darwin so we could not pass up the opportunity to grab a few caches on the trip. We did a scan to see what caches were available and where. We spotted one difficulty terrain combo we needed so just had to get it. Only problem was it was Difficulty 5 and we did not have much time to solve it. The cache was Cross Bearing #2. We did a bit of research and then came up with a number the geochecker said was in the zone. A little more refinement and exploring the boundaries and we soon had a set of numbers geo checker said was spot on.
We also spotted some other Difficulty 5 caches we thought we could solve with a bit of work as we had the machine and we had done some before. This would make it potentially 3 difficulty 5 caches in a row. These caches were Darwin Enigma Challenge and Operation Enigma Challenge #2. As we had run out of time at home we cranked up the machine on the plane set to work to decipher. The first one fell out without not too much head scratching with a set of believable numbers. The second one required some more work. We had done something similar in WA but this had a couple of differences plus a bit of a twist at the end. After a few goes we turned our grabbled out put in to the correct orders with a set of believable numbers.
Once on the ground we head straight for Darwin Enigma Challenge. We found the side track and then with only 20m to the cache we baulked a little to get through the unknown long grass. Once at GZ it was a quick find after removing some cache guardian bugs. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC
We plugged in the co-ords for Operation Enigma Challenge #2 and headed off down an unsealed road. We got to a channel crossing and although we had a hire car we didn't thing it would make it. Back to the sealed road we went and after a short drive we parked about 90m from the cache. The scrub was light and we hear some noise about 200m away which turned out to be someone burning off. We could see GZ and it had plenty of hiding options. We let the GPSr settle and eyed over the situation without rushing in. We then slowly walked around and found the hide for something that looked not quiet right. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC
With 2 D 5's already under our belt for today it was time for the third so we headed south east for Cross Bearing #2. We got close on the sealed roads and could see the unsealed track we needed to take but with all the grading could not find a way across for a 2WD. A little check and we found the ground hard enough and soon had the car at the track. We dodged a few fallen trees and found an old car before taking a short walk over to GZ. We spotted the hide and the cache but got not get in out. It appears 6 months without a find has let the termite mud settle and stick like concrete to the level of the cache lid. We manage to free it but the plastic is starting to look a little brittle. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC
On the way back to town we realised Test Tube Baby John was a short detour for a drive by. We parked next to GZ and saw another car with a geocaching sticker but no cachers in sight. We soon spotted the hide and realised some tools or improvisation was required. We tried a few natural items but no result. We then found a pink coat hanger that looked like it had been used to get into a car. We modified the end and after a few goes extracted the cache. On closer examination of the cache its lifting line was broken which explained the difficult extraction. We completed the signing duties and re hid. We tried to create a small loop at the top for better access next time. TFTC.
