It's so hard to believe that a 2000 people town has gone. No evidence at all. Amazing. Thank you for bringing me here
Beautiful spot and fascinating history. Quick find. Thanks for bringing us to this area. TFTH
Camping down at Talbotville and decided to take the dirtbike out for a spin and tick of a few caches along the way. Nice easy find tftc
Coming to Grant has been on my radar for years! Even though Im only in Harrietville its taken a long time. The now resurrected annual Xmas party for all the Alpine Museum societies was on in Dargo, so after a Museum visit and a look at the extraordinary Grant pics of olde, followed by a hearty lunch I headed in. In 1865 they had over 2000 people and 22 hotels here so how amazing to think there were so many folks here and little remains but graves. The history here at Grant and the rest of the area is amazing. TFTC and the FUN!
While in Dargo travelled up here to tick another thing of my bucket list. TFTC while here. Done back in January sorry for late log GJ.
This is part of the Dargo Crooked River Goldfields, it is one of the 3 largest goldfields in the Gippsland in the 1860's. In 1865 they had over 2000 people and 22 hotels here.
How amazing to think there were that many people here and now there is nothing but remains of graves. You can still see outlines of graves thanks to the Overlander 4x4 club for the work they continue to do with the area.
The history up here at Grant and the rest of the area is amazing and I do hope that it keeps go for future generations to see what our past generations had to endure.
Thanks for this cache and the amazing area you have brought us to flyjabiru1...

Grant is an absolute lovely place. I’ve been here numbers of times. What a great history, Mines, I’ll buildings remains of old buildings, the old cemetery, Jolly, Salter, Jimney, and a few others around the area.
While in Dargo and the surrounding area, we took a day to venture around Grant. This one saw our group spreading out in all directions, as our GPS took a while to catch up, but once we all fixed on the same area, the cache was easily in hand. Thank you!
This badboy was fun to grab because id never been here and any old town with around
2000 people and over 20 PUBS seems like a town you cant help but be happy in ?????????????????????????? ??
Ripper weekend trip and hunting some smileys made it even better.

Very exposed & saturated. Have replaced logbook with rite in the rain log in a zip lock bag with pencil. Put cache back into hiding spot for the next adventurers. Tftc
TFTC. Cool morning on top of this historic site. Gave us something interesting to do.
Awesome place to be out exploring. High country with good mates. What more could one ask for
Cache was in the open and wet. Log too waterlogged to sign. Re-placed so it’s out of the weather (tucked back where it was meant to be?) Needs a dry out.
Found as part of 4as1 with Jasojura while we were in the area with the Scouts ACT 4wd Team

Heading through the high country for the weekend with the Scouts ACT 4WD team and this was our lunch stop on day one. After lunch 4 as 1 and I made the short stroll to GZ and made a nice quick find on a somewhat exposed cache.
After signing the log we replaced it with some more camo and continued on into the mountains - TFTC

Grant is a historical location, tje cache is tucked onto a nice little niche, near the old town site.
The old cpntainer was damaged, and was replaced

Found cache. Was scattered over 5-10m from site. Hiding spot looks to have been harvested for firewood. Reset what was left in original(?) spot. Will need attention.
Almost found this one by accident! Stopped here for lunch and opened up the app and boom! 38m away where K was standing eating here sanga.
Out for a drive a drive to Dargo with Greenlion09's mum and muggle Dave. This cache was not on our original itinerary, but who can pass up on a cache in a ghost town.
Quick find in obvious spot, followed by morning tea in the bush. Thank flyjabiru1

Investigated the township. Drove the streets. Then back to the cemetery. Don’t think the cemetery will see more additions of dead for a while.
Thanks flyjabiru1 and clear skies from TeamAstro. ️ Cache the planet!

Found with Beaker on a week-long 4wd trip through the high country. Highlights included walking to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, sunset from the top of Mt Pinnibar, seeing an Eastern Water Dragon in the Crooked River and having the living daylights scared out of us by a deer at Wonnangatta! Along the way we rescued a bushwalker from a 7km limp with a sprained ankle, climbed mountains, crossed rivers, saw many huts and beautiful scenery, did some excellent 4wd tracks and some great caches. Thanks
Found with FerociousFlea while on our 8 day 4WD sojourn through the the High Country. We were collecting caches that we liked the look of as we went along.
Brilliant spot... we camped here for the night... woke up and headed down to Crooked River and Talbotville.

We were heading to Talbotville from Italian Flat today and diverted slightly from McMillans Road to the old Grant township area to find this cache. My muggle mate actually found it first which amused him no end but I would've if he hadn't. Regardless though, a find is a find is it not?
TFTC
(Next, Talbotville then following the Crooked River track and Talbotville Road to the Wonnangatta Road near Kingswell Bridge, north-west to Eaglevale, up to the Cynthia Range track following Station track to Racecourse track back to Talbotville before finally heading back to camp at Italian Flat.)

Found while on a camping trip in the Wonnagatta valley. I didn't realise that saving caches to a list on the new Geocaching app doesn't actually save them offline, so with no mobile coverage I had just a set of coordinates to go on. nevertheless it was an easy find, on a day trip to the Grant historic area. Not much to see here, though fascinating to read about. TFTC
Heading off on a weeks holiday in the High Country and an overnight stop in Dargo planned. We stopped and collected some caches along the road as we head through the area.
A nice easy find here, so thanks flyjabiru1 for the placement.

Much easier to get to than the last two caches we did in the area! Took puzzle, left scorpion. TFTC
We wete camping at Talbotville and dropped into Grant on our way home. This was my second cache. TFTC.
Yay and double yay found on a beautiful day with new friends made around the campfire tflc
Out for a 4x4 weekend and our first night we camped in Grant, the cache was just across from where we camped.. What a lovely area... Thanks for the cache.
I wasn’t sure what to expect at Grant. In the end, it wasn’t much but still interesting nevertheless. The cache was an easy find, in good condition. TNLN.
The cemetery down the road a-ways was well worth a look, and I wondered at the time why there wasn’t a cache there as well?

A great looking camp spot and surprisingly, no-one here this morning when we visited .

On our way into Talbotville we stopped for a quick look at our alternative camping spot in Grant, and while we were there picked up this cache. Cheers. MODU.
Found this when we were in the area for s weekend of camping and 4wd. Great spot.
2 from 2! This was much easier than our first!!!! We were lucky to actually have a look for this as there was people camping their but with no one in sight we had a quick look around and found it, made a quick log and got out before someone returned!
Found whilst visiting this nice little historic spot. Even went for a look through the old mine. So much history here, would love to have a poke around one day. Thanks for the cache!
Great day for caching today. Out with outnabout86. Took yellow die eraser ,left luige( from Tambo crossing cache). TFTC.
An easy find while on a trip with see my swag forum.
It must of been tough living out here.

Talk about Bourke St and Collins Street with dust! We thought Grant was now a ghost town! We counted about 15 vehicles leaving the area and creating dust so thick we had to stop until it cleared so we could see where the road went. We were hoping that the mass exodus meant we would have the place to ourselves to find the cache and yes we did! MarknDee followed along behind with constant radio communication regarding traffic. SL at 2.25pm Took: comb (to dispose of) Left: glow eagle PT #2785 De and Mrs harrowang gave the cache container a good cleaning and disposed of some items of dubious nature and left some new swag, while the menfolk decided our next port of call. TFTC flyjabiru1
A beautiful day in the mountains! We followed along through the thick dust with Harrowang and made the find at 2:25pm talk about getting away from it all! Hard to find a lonely place these days! SL dried up cache, took torch and left puzzle. TFTC
While heading to a motorcycle rally at Talbotville, the weather was just perfect for cache hunting. I found this on the way. Thanks for hiding the cache for us.
Crusty..

It was great to find this one so easily as I had missed so many on the way here as they were not on a direct route and hubby wouldn't detour. Haven't been here for ages so was surprised to see the changes in the area - all for the best I feel - recording and passing on the history of the area. TNLN SL TFTC flyjabiru1
Found on our "Making Memories" Tour of mainland Australia.
A quick find while 4WDing in the area. Hard to imagine a town here although our GPS showed where the streets once were. Thanks flyjabiru1 for bringing us here and for the cache.

What an interesting place! How tough the 'old days' must have been! At least there were enough hotels in Grant to make things easier (for some)! Tftc

Our first find for the new year in an area that managed to escape the latest bush fires. Beautiful hot day and no one else around. TFTC
Found with Bluejay40. Finally found one in this area that hadn't been lost or destroyed by fire or other natural events.
Had a little difficulty with the phone dropping in &out, but still managed to find it. Took frog & finger torch, left bouncy ball & croc key ring
Found this one today on our way home from Dargo.
I've been here quite a few times before and don't need much of an excuse to call in.
Thanks.

Found while exploring th area with the Pajero Club...not as adventful as the prior or folling day. Although we did help out a fellow cacher and Paj member with leaking steering fluid issues. They had helped us with water the day before. Had a great swim at Harrisons Cut. Just nearby a older gentleman was in the process of setting up a shower. Said he had been camping here for as long as his dog had been a pup.
This took some finding had to dig around where we thought it could be and there it was, looks as if there had been a lot of rain and washed a fair amont of soil over the cache. Thought we might pickup a left over nugget while digging but no luck.

After finding GZ the long way around thanks to good navigators.... (thanx Chops )
Cache wa soon uncovered in the obvious spot.

This was the last for the day with DJ The Chops & Haveanez, & this was where we said farewell to Team Haveanez for the weekend, as thier youngest is a bit to young to be camping out this time of the year in the high country.
After a short stroll due to GPSs sending all over the place, we found ourselves
at GZ, not long after that DJ found the stash.
Many thanks Flyjabiru1 for the hide and the history lesson...........Cheers.

I'd been to Grant before (BC - Before Caching), but hadn't had an opportunity to stop back since. We were in the area on a 4WDing/caching weekend, and made time to stop here. My GPS compass was doing something strange, but after taking the long version of a short cut, we had the cache in hand before too long. Thanks!
Our last cache for the day as the group consisting of theChops, Lostmonster & Co, Haveanez and ourselves made the way to Talbotville campground for the night.
We parked by the info boards and after having a read made our way "round" to the cache.
Its amazing to think that the whole town of 2000 residents has now completely gone, the only remnants are the signs saying where the various buildings had once been.
The immediate ground area around Gz looks to have been dug up by pigs and thought maybe the cache might have been lost, but J found it hiding down in its hole. Also found quite a bit of broken glass from old bottles laying around.
TNLN, Cheers.

TFTC, Found with a friends youngster. We took the mini car for Hamish and left a key ring (transfered from a previous find).
A beautiful day for Geo caching. A quick find with the Geo kiddies. Done some swaps. TFTC
Found on a drive from Dinner Plain to Sale, with a slight detour through Grant to retrieve this cache. Always a great area to visit around here. Took a mini game, left a bigger game and a min truck. Dipped in a GC who wants to go shopping, but they are a century late so will continue it on. Thank you flyjabiru1 for the excuse to visit this historic area again.
Found at 11.45am. GPS was swinging between 7m & 25m accuracy but there was a likely GZ which we scouted around. Dad had to employ the use of materials close to hand to ensure a quick find - nice camo! Had been to this location previously and love the history of the place - those people must've done it tough back in the "good old days".

After a night at the Dargo pub this was a head clearing walk to make a quick find. Tks for the cache. I had found the remains of the previous cache wiped out in the fires here a few years ago.
A great start to the High Country Cache Day!
Called in to grant on the way through for a quick find with the family.
Took a happy sack and left a clicking green frog!
