### **OWNER MAINTENANCE REQUIRED PLEASE** ###

Hi there fozzy778,
This cache has been flagged by Geocaching HQ as a cache that **MAY** need some attention. You would have received an automated email from Geocaching HQ recently which explained what needs to be done.
Unfortunately, nothing seems to have happened, so I am having to take the next step and temporarily disable the cache - see here: [**Geocache Health Score.**](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=713) .
**Can you please respond to this situation (or indicated your intention) within 14 days,** so others know exactly what is happening with this cache?
You have lots of choices so pick the one that applies from this handy list:
- Check on the cache, repair and/or replace the cache or do whatever else is needed, post an [**Owner Maintenance log**](http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=404) indicating the cache has been checked and [**ENABLE your cache.**](https://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=235 ) Then sit back and wait for the praises.
- If you really hope to get it fixed but there is some unusual reason why you can't do it soon, then at least post a Write Note log (within 14 days). Be sure to indicate the actual date that you expect to have it fixed so that everyone knows you are on top of it. For ongoing issues (where you don't have an actual date) please ensure you visit the page and post a note every 28 days so as to keep everyone up to speed.
- If you don't plan on fixing it then you could consider passing it on to another geocacher by asking them to [**Adopt it**](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=54) or alternatively, you need to [**Archive it,**](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=56) so it is removed from searches and someone else can have the spot. Don't forget to remove any remnants of your previously enjoyed cache too.
You might wonder what happens if you don't pick one of those. Well, if nothing happens, then a few weeks from today, when I next look at the cache page, it is likely that I will, unfortunately, have to de-list (Archive) it on the basis that it has been abandoned.
Honestly, I'd rather you decide, so please do something before then. Please don't send me an email but instead follow the information/advice posted above.

No luck today. It was our first multi-cache so maybe we made a mistake. Very disappointed
Having learnt about this story from another local cache, we just had to come to this one and add to our knowledge. After gathering up all of the needed info and completing the math, we were left empty handed today as GZ has lots of evidence of clearing works. With very little places left to hide anything and being very exposed to muggles, we decided to add this to the watch list and leave it for another day. KKams
Dnf today. A lot of trees have recently been chopped down so not sure if maybe it got lost with them? Or we just arent very good searchers. Tftc anyway!
While enjoying my lovely warm house, I received a message from The_Tritonz. "What are ya up to ?? Do you want to grab some caches ?? Hmmm... I'll have a look out the window, grey clouds and strong winds. I'll just check the weather online, freezing cold, with a high chance of rain. With all of those things considered.... I said YES !! [B)] [B)] So a quick bag pack and we were soon off. We did have brief periods of sunshine, but the majority of the day was cold, windy and wet.
It didn't dampen our spirits though, we still found a good mix of hides. All in all, another enjoyable day exploring our great countryside.
What a tragic story, very very sad. Thanks for the history lesson and the multi. TFTC fozzy778

Today I headed out for a daytrip to the Castlemaine area with Jacko, making the most of the cooler weather to enjoy some bushy terrain.
Still early in the morning we stopped here in Daylesford to read about this sad story.
Recently there have been several people missing while hiking around Victoria (and these stories don't usually end well). Search operations must have been that much harder back then - perhaps if it was today the children may have survived.
Thanks for the multi fozzy778.

Thanks for the multi fozzy778.
What a devastating story, with the loss of such young lives.
A reminder also of how dense, thick and unforgiving the bush would have been back then in this area, and how unimaginably cold it would have gotten overnight.
Thanks for sharing this story and highlighting the markers. Cache was a quick easy find with Pacman and Bentley.

With the GP now but a memory, it is time to head home to South Australia. Grabbed the last 2 caches needed for the Victorian LGA Challenge (hooray), then onto the highly favourited caches in the St Arnaud Bush to get some points for the Planetary Challenge. TFTC.
Well I don't know what I did wrong with my numbers but I was way out?
No problem though as I just searched around and found the cache in a likely looking spot nearby!
I grabbed the geocoin to move on. I'll take it back to Queensland with me.
Thanks for the cache fozzy778.

kenare and I were talking about this story ages ago, its so sad!!! It was good to read the signs and plaques and see more of the story. tftc
What an extremely sad story. The co-ords for Gz were easy enough to get. Thanks for making me aware of this real life drama. Cigc. Tftc
I had been here a lot when I was younger and had heard of the tragic story numerous times over the years. We cached in Daylesford a while ago, but couldn't do this multi. I couldn't read the cache page through my blurry teary eyes. Today, along with Jenno3, Sean.75 and kenbryl we had another go. I cannot begin to imagine the grief the family, friends and townspeople went through during this time. It would be horrendous!!
Once we had worked out coords the cache was soon in hand. There was a man sitting nearby but he barely battered an eyelid in our direction as we gathered the required information. Tftc

What a tragic tale!!! When I read the cache I went online and did some research about the sad tale. Could only imagine what the poor family went through. Back in that day to raise that amount of money for the search was huge just goes to show human compassion towards kids. Thanks for bringing me here and making me aware of this tragic story
What a tragic story, can’t even begin to imagine this
Thanks for the history of this case and thanks for the cache

Fairly sure I had the right coordinates but with no clue for the container or the hide I wasn't sure what to look for so tried all the usual suspects. No luck after spending quite some time on this
Collected the required information and approached GZ. We were a little wary as a muggle in a ute was sitting only about 30 m away facing the likely hide. He eventually moved off and we were able to look more closely and soon found the container. Sad story. TFTC
Wow, what a sad story about the boys. We wandered around, gathered the required information and made a find here. Thank you for bringing us here. TFTC fozzy778
I had stopped by this one back in January. Thought i had a good set of numbers but my GZ was way out in the open so a DNF. (Sorry i forgot to log it). Had discussed it later with a friend and realised i misread one of the plaques so armed with this new knowledge the correct GZ was soon calculated and today i made a quick find at last.
A very moving memorial site, thx for getting us to stop here.

Looked here in the exact same spot 6 years ago and it wasn't there, but today it was - miracles.
Collected the clues, calculated GZ, but then had to have a cuppa while waiting for the muggles to move on. Easy find, just watchout for prickles. Thanks fozzy778 for bringing us here, and learning about an adventure with a sad ending.
Heading to Daylesford, so stopped here for an interesting cache.
A sad story indeed!
Had a hiccup with calcs, checked and then entered them correctly!
Found easily.

First multi and didn't quite get it right, tried a few combinations but poor foot west gave up. Hope to return
Located the cache after a short search, before setting off on a 2.5 hour return walk along the first section of the Lost Children's Trail
Very sad the search for the children ended in little more than frustration but little wonder given the appauling conditions
In today's money the reward would be in excess of $50,000. Small price to pay for 3 young lives
If only today's technology was available back then! Maybe the outcome would have been more positive
Many thanx to fozzy778. A fav point for the cache and a promise to return to complete the remaining sections of the walk in the 150th anniversary year

Catching up on a couple of late forgotten logs from a few days away in Hepburn with the dear wife for a kids free break and made the most of grabbing a few caches while we were out and about. We had come to do this one after previously reading the reason behind the cache and after a little wander around the area we soon had the cache in hand. Thanks fozzy778 for the nice little multi and hide and also the sad tale behind this area.
Found after visiting friends in the area, we made a stop here, gathered the required information and numbers, made the calculations and made the search, finally it was in hand, signed and replaced, such a sad end to little lives, Thanks for bringing us here and the cache.
Moneydork and Mrs Moneydork had very kindly invited me, last November, for a caching trip to Victoria over the Australia Day weekend [:X]
A massive trip with 13 DNFS and 318 finds over 7 days and many kilometers of travel
My knees don't want to bend anymore after a massive ride on the Ballarat Skipton Rail Trail and then about 145 finds the next day while finishing the Dad's Mt. Disappointment Driving Lesson series [xx(] Seems my driving lesson was about me keeping both feet on the ground as I broke my own record by doing the autumn leaf thing 4 times in one day [xx(]
Still a fantastic trip with great sights and lots of cache finds [^]
A travel day today as we head from Ballarat to Seymour.
We picked up this cache on our way out there
How sad I'm so glad that technology has given me a GPSr so that I don't get lost too!
Nice multi! [^]

A nice easy multi and a very sad story. But great to get our first smiley for 2017. Happy New Year!
We made this our last cache after a massive day caching between Daylesford and Castlemaine . Collected the clues and found the cache without any trouble. a very sad story. Thanks for sharing with us fozzy778.
And that's a DNF from me. Double checked maths, went to projected GZ had a wander around the two trees, expanded the search area to the bush and tree nearby as well as the solitary tree and another stand of trees with no luck.
Either I didn't dig rough the litter sufficiently or I didn't get the right angle in the books of the tree such as they are or the cache has been muggled.
I can't see how a regular sized container could be in the nook of the tree and be unfindable so my money is on option a or c. Hopefully (for my skills as a cacher) it has been muggled...

Such a tragic story, the heartbreak one must feel with the dissapearance of in child and the consequent death let alone all three. Thank you for the tour and the history.

#4575 - 11:30; After a week in Victoria with the geohoney, it was time to head north for home. With plenty of time up our sleeves, we decided to take our time and stop off in a couple more of the historic goldfields towns between Creswick and the Hume Highway. Daylesford was a bit damp and bleak, so after a trip to the top of the hill, we adjourned for a spot of breakfast after which we checked out a few of the local shops along the main street. We then headed for a rather large second hand market, so while the geohoney browsed, I headed along the road to learn of the sad story on which this cache is based. After doing the study and the calculations, I had to wait out a muggle who had parked near GZ. After the wait was over, I managed the find, after which we were then headed further north. TFTC fozzy778
My first multi cache I have always thought you need more equipment to work these caches out but I was wrong.
This cache has been tantalising me for a year now.
As a proud holder of the Graham Dux Award the story has held a special meaning for me for over 40 years so to find it included in the geocaching game was another plus
Thanks for bringing me back here and a fav from me because of it is a story worth keeping alive
I will try to post a photo of my medal

Such a heartbreaking story. This is certainly a great way to highlight it. It's a cold day today, so it must have been bitter a month from now all those years ago. TFTC
I started this multi about 18 months ago but was time poor so took pics to return another day. A chance message from wozzle today saw me heading back this way with my 5 year old geokid. Cache was quickly found and signed. A very sad story . A few months back we did some 4wding on the other side of town and on parts of the lost boys trail. Just tragic.
I'd driven past this location so many times on my frequent trips from Bendigo to Ballarat and back. Finally, several weeks ago, I stopped by to gather the clues but with complaining kids in the back, I decided not to complete the cache at that time. As it turned out, the coordinates were easily obtained in the comfort of home the final hide was much closer to the picnic area than I expected. Even with the final coordinates, I still drove by several times on trips with kids just wanting to get to Ballarat or home without stopping, but today was the day to make the final find which was a quick one. The story behind this cache was both an interesting one and a tragic one. Thinking of the 3 lost boys and how they must have felt at the time - afraid, alone and lost, yet so close to safety if only they knew which direction to take.... makes my heart break for them and cherish my own two children even more, despite their frequent complaints when I want to stop for a cache find. Thanks so much for bringing me to this wonderful place fozzy778, which held a truly inspirational story that few people would know about despite the memorial. If it wasn't for the cache hidden here, I certainly would have remained ignorant of this story, so thanks again!
Found It......Found this one while traveling up this way on a relaxing day with the Geo Wife. After the Geo Wife reading about this terrible event while researching a series of caches we were placing about children dying in the early years called The Little Angles we thought that someone would have placed a cache to keep the story alive so the little boys wouldn't be forgotten so a bit of research soon had us looking at this one so a plan was made to drive up here to try and complete the cache and to read some more of the history of the event. So after finishing our lunch we started to collect the info required to get the final GZ coords and with two sets of eyes and 2 brains we soon had the required set of numbers and after a short walk and a even quicker search we soon had the cache in hand. So with the log signed we continued on our journey. Thanks fozzy778 for the cache and bringing us here and keeping the story alive for everyone to remember the loss all those years ago P.S. we are giving it a Fav point

Out and about in Daylesford with Mum this morning. We had driven past the reserve on the way into town, so decided to walk there from where we were staying. We walked past old miner's cottages, along the country roads - it was lovely. At the WPs we had no trouble finding the info needed - what a tragic event - and soon we had a cache in hand. We really enjoyed this multi - Mum's first. TFTC fozzy778

Coming along this road, the story made us curious and to tribute then we wanted to find your cache
Well, we took the wrong month first due to mid-reading the description ( it is the months the community found the 3 poor boys)
Then we mixed up everything and started all over again
GZ is near true, but mind the vegetation
Cache is in good order

Found with my friend after a visit to the Mill. Good intro for my muggle friend. tFTC
Found with Monks 55. Good that these boys are remembered. Had to decide which month at second way point to use... Think logically. TFTC.

Backlogging... A beautiful day so becca85, chan02, boo09 & myself decided to head to Daylesford for some caching. We had muggle trouble here but finally found it! TFTC
What a terribly sad story. I was explaining to the Geo-kids as we pulled up and Miss 6 got confused and jumped out of the car telling us we must help find them! If only kiddo. :/
We had muggles to contend with here which made the process a little longer. After miscalculating initially (should have read previous comments!) we altered our sums and wandered over. Agh there?! Checked comments to see it was indeed 'There' and so we dived in and retrieved the cache. Found with neisha07, boo09 & chan02. TFTC

Make sure that EF is the month found, not lost. After updating our coordinates with this month we found the Cache. But it was fun find.
A very sad story, glad they haven't been forgotten.
We had a bit of trouble at waypoint2 as we didn't know which month and year to use as there was two. We tried both and eventually game up with the goods.
Cache no longer needs maintenance as FelixII left a very nice log book in a plastic bag.

Travelling around Australia and staying a few days at Mt Franklin.
We headed into the freezing cold with a plan to attempt many walking trails.
The weather was pretty cold, we saw rain hail and sleet! Wow a day to remember.
Brrr freezing. no muggles about today! Surprise.
Info collected then cache located. Container was emptied out dried out and a new log placed.

The log book is very wet and starting to mildew - we didn't have any replacements so were not able to place a dry log
Last day of my weekend away and the weather is disgustingly cold and wet, typical for this area. I have wanted to find out more about this legend after seeing the sign post on the road back to Trentham but it has taken until today to do so. After a false start and not wanting the cache to be where the GPS was pointing we quickly had the container in hand and although the log book is quite wet we were able to sign the log. Found with taurus1955 and Bentley TB on a wet, cold, miserable day in Daylesford. Made the necessary calculations and had a quick look. No, it couldn't possibly be there! Back to the car to re-check calculations and to read some previous logs. Yes, it IS there! TFTC
Geo daughter found it while I was still solving waypoints. Visible from the carpark. Cache is saturated.
We were a little baffled by the correct date to used at wp2 so we tried both and shortly after had the cache. Couldn't sign the mouldy log book

Thanks for this multi. Sad story. A bit prickly at GZ but no muggles on this nice day today. Thanks fozzy778, a multi for the Multi March Challenge and a regular for the Regular Cache Challenge. Double whammy, thanks!!
We have driven passed this one many times previously. Today, we had some time on our hands so we stopped to gather the information. We sat at the table in the beautiful sunshine and made the calculations. We were happy to find that GZ was not too far away. The cache was located and we would agree, the log book is very damp. While we did not have time to give it a chance to dry out, we did have a spare plastic bag to replace the broken one. Thanks for the making us stop today fozzy778, it is indeed a very sad story.
Contents wet and mouldy. Log soggy, probably only scratched my name not written it
What a tragedy for those 2 families so long ago. It reminds me of the story Lost in the Bush where 3 children from the 1 family were lost for 9 days in the Horsham area but with a happier outcome than these unfortunate lads. After some confusion with the choice of months on the cairn, a bit of trial and error and some fizzy thought soon had me at GZ The lid was so tightly on that I almost had to admit defeat, but with the aid of some extra grip entry was effected though everything was damp and mouldy TFTC fozzy778

After doing the other Daylesford multi we knew many of the answers already but it was interesting to see the other end of their sad journey.
We came up with two possible GZs and turns out our first visit was successful. A prickly retrieval but we managed it intact.
Thanks fozzy778

I had visited this one previously but had been unable to find the cache that time. I was back in the area today and I had another look, but still come up dry. Then, on reading the previous log, I pondered whether I had taken the last waypoint ambigously also. I tried the other option and sure enough I found the cache straight away. So I needed the date the boys were found, when they went missing after-all.
Anyway, it was the tragic story of the lost boys that brings one here to do this one and it is a timely reminder of the ones around us that are precious to us. Thanks for the cache fozzy.

Neat multi around the lost boy monuments old and new. Had the final GZ wrong because I did not understand the final clue. Very ambiguous. Final GZ well protected by the prickles. TNLN TFTC fozzy778.
Found with Wozzle68 after visiting the other Monument earlier on during our travels from Trentham, the maths for this had us a bit confused but after a recheck we had a new set if coords to try and found the container at the end of them

What a sad story for this family, must have been terrifying for the children. Co ords were spot on, so was able to retrieve cache very carefully! I would like to give this a favourite, thanks.
Last morning in daylesford and this was the only cache not so far attempted. It wasn't too far from where I was staying so I ducked out before breakfast to visit the plaques, say a prayer and find the cache.

We had a bit of trouble working out the co-ordinates as one of the clues confused us but we started making mad guesses and found what was the GZ. We then checked with Fergzter before diving in. (wasn't searching there if I didn't have too) and we were right. A deep breath and I quickly spotted it and sent LumpyR in after it! TFTC. Not likely to be muggled in any sort of hurry!
Mum had heard about the loss of these young boys and thought we would try a multi . Have going from point to point and and reading the ages and story of these boys We had co ords and geo sense was upon it . Lucky l have sensory issues hehe so mum did the grab and a few words mentioned and the two wanderers a laughing . Mum has been very entertaining today This will mark my 200th find so thank you Fozzy778 for the history and story if this tragedy
Found today while on a cache run with Cauzsa. What a very sad story for these young boys and their families. We managed to get the correct coords and soon had cache in hand. We heard an OUCH from mum Cauzsa. Thanks for this history.

Nice easy find after I eventually made the correct calculations with the second month. My arms came off second best when grabbing the cache. Thanks to Fozzy778 for bringing me to this interesting place with an interesting story.
We found another memorial of this historical event as we completed another multi cache earlier today. Despite our best intentions to add this one to our loot, it eluded us. We calculated and re-calculated, widened our search area, to no avail. Maybe this cache was not meant to be found today: After all, it is the anniversary of the boys’ disappearance!
After a bit more homework and some dinner, we felt we should have another look in a place we had dismissed. Lo and behold, there it was! Our calculations had taken us quite a distance away from GZ. As noted earlier by other cachers, there are two months indicated at WP 2. The second month was definitely more helpful.
What a sad story and what a fluke that we stumbled across it on this very day! TFTC

A lazy day in Daylesford just collecting a few new caches with Bettyboo3747.
A story that has memorials all around the area.
We collected all out information and did our calculations.
The cache was about 9 meters from our GZ, and despite all our stuffing around, there was really only one place it could be.
Thanks, Robmc.

# 3420. Spending a few days in Daylesford with Robmc and today we did a few caches in town.
This was the second cache that had a reference to the Three Lost Children, that we did today. I had read their story after seeing this cache, and before arriving in town. Such a sad tale with a tragic ending that has etched their names into local history. We have now visited the memorials at both ends of the walk. It took us some time to locate the cache although we had been quite close intially before wandering all over the place. Our final coords were not helping but on the way back to the car we finally found the cache.

Our last cache on dark for the day. A little confusion with there being two different months at WP2 - take the first one. Then GZ had us in the middle of a grassed area, so resorted to reading past logs and the Moose made the find. I think you might have to add 2 to A. Anyways, some interesting history, thanks for the cache.
Catching up on on a few hundred missed logs

I visited this area last year while on holiday nearby and didn't realise they was cache here until I returned home. So today while passing by I dropped in for another visit & quickly found the required information, did the calculation and found the cache and signed the log.
A tragic story and reminder to keep the kids in sight while out hiking.
Thanks for bringing us back here

Found early on a Saturday morning. A very quiet park, even given school holidays. A very poignant area to reflect on the story which this cache remembers.
Was a very quick multi cache for us today, with very close distances between WP's and GZ. Cache was well hidden but could have been stumbled across looking between the two WPs.
Thanks fozzy778 for the multi cache today!

An interesting little bit of history
I soon had a set of coordinates worked out and thankful that I did not have to walk the entire trail, wandered the short distance to where the GPS pointed
A few minutes later I had to admit I was lost [:o]
So I stumbled around the park looking for the cache.
My wanderings had a happy outcome and I eventually found the cache

Found quite easily from reading the logs as the dates were a bit confusing. A sad story for such young boys. Paused a while to remember the lost children once we signed the log. Tftc.
Used the later month at WP2 to find the cache.
The Daylesford area gets bitterly cold and foggy in winter - not a place for anyone to get lost in.

We were venturing out of the house after a hot day spent mainly in our lovely cottage accommodation playing Monopoly, to take the kids for a play at the nearby springs. But then this cache swung into view so we stopped by for a quick multi. Grabbed the first set of coordinates from the car (realising the OLDEST of these kids was younger than our youngest. Yikes). Then alpha male had to get out for the second set (scratching his head a little at the two possible months, but choosing the most likely), and then back to the car for calculations. Surprised by the answer, but worried by previous logs, it was then a quick sojourn to GZ where after some prickly adventures the cache was found, with much relief. That's a pretty safe spot there with its natural protection! Dropped off a Camaro TB, as all little boys love cars and it seemed a suitable momento for three little boys and their very sad tale.

I attempted this one a few months ago unsuccessfully, I too end up with 2 sets of potential coords, but no cache, today was Xmas Eve and attempt 2, success!
First geochache that we have found, mucked around A LOT! and somehow got to the lake. HOW THE HELL DID WE GET THERE! Went to the start and looked at logs and saw that the place was prickly and gosh it was prickly we had to use a stick to get a it!!!
