Nice little walk to the cache. Track was very slippery, Managed to slip over once, and could see from the tracks where others had slipped over recently too. TFTC

18-Jan-19
Grabbed on the way back from a walk up to Kaweka J.Qwik find thanks to the clue

16-Sep-18
We took the "wrong" way up and didn't pass here at the start, so it was the last find today.
TFTC, we had such a great day! Perfect weather and happy to see so much snow up there.

03-Feb-18
Planned to get up to Kaweka J and pick up the caches on the way. Sadly the weather closed in and we only got up to Dominie hut. Not much rain but the wind was howling and blowing us around. The caches were all fine with clear hints. Now off to the hot pools at Mangatutu. TFTC

25-Jan-18
During a 6 day tramp from Makahu Saddle (Kaweka’s) to Kaimanawa Road (Off Desert Rd) with a party of 6 people.
Night 1: Tira Lodge (Venison Top)
Night 2: Harkness Hut
Night 3: Boyd Hut
Night 4: Camping beside Mangamaire River (near Parewarewa Ridge)
Night 5: Waipakihi Hut
The weather was fantastic although very hot at times. The endless sunshine was broken only by a thunderstorm when we were walking along Mangamingi stream. The river came up real quick which made it a bit more exciting.
Note that permission is needed from to cross the private land from Boyd hut to Waipakihi hut.
The only people we saw the whole trip was 5 hunters at Boyd Hut.
My companions are not geocachers but were entertained by the cache hunts!

Found this pretty quick... which was good as we had a long way to go and my companions were itching to keep moving!

15-Nov-17
Found with ease but very wet unable to sign,
tftc.

21-Oct-17
Container on ground out of bag. Log book wet. Started raining as we where leaving to get to the top. Half way up we had to turn back. Visibility was about 100m and closing fast.

05-Feb-17
Highlight (and high point) of the weekend was getting up here today and none of the caches. Nice bunch of people to be out with and some really challenging terrain as we kept on making our way up. First find of the day and reasonably straightforward for the group which was a good start. TFTC

05-Feb-17
A bunch of weka event campers on a mission up to the summit of Kaweka J. Easy start with this find during the morning hours. Signed as Team Weka. TFTC

05-Feb-17
Out for a walk with a group of campers from the Weka Point BBQ and Camp out event.
First cache before heading up.
Signed as Team Weka.

05-Feb-17
First stop on the way up to Kaweka J with Team Weka. After another blissful night at Camp Weka Point we loaded up the cars and headed on the long gravel road out to the mountain. A few scrapes on the way up but nothing Kiwileons car couldn't handle.... maybe we had just had too much BBQ the night before. Unloaded at the car park and prepared ourselves for a long hot walk. First of all was the obligatory group photo... gopro take a photo. Then it was up up up. This cache was our first one after checking out the nearby lodgings. Thanks for the hide.

05-Feb-17
Missed this one when we came through a few weeks back but found today with the team Weka Kaweka Walkers. T4TC

05-Feb-17
The start of our trek up to the summit.... a group of us staying at WEKA camp site in Rissington, signing in as Team WEKA to save log book space....
It was a hot HB day, not a cloud in the sky...the scenery was stunning, well worth the trek....on up the range we headed.

Signed in as Team WEKA to save log book space.

TFTC.

Found with a team of keen geocachers staying at the Weka Point Scout Camp for Waitangi week end. Thirteen of us in the party so signed as 'Team Weka' to save space on the log. This is the start of a great expedition to the Kaweka J summit. Hot sunny weather and great views. All good. TFTC

Dad had to help me with the clue as I didn't understand it! After 10 minutes of searching finally found it. Camo bag had come unstitched so I tied it up with some flax

15-Jan-17
I had a search for this one earlier in the day but without any success. After talking with a local cacher who gave a few pointers I was successful this afternoon.

Cheers for the cache.

Found after spending few amazing days up on ridges of Kaweka Smile TFTC

29-Oct-16
Nice hide, amazing scenery on this track. TFTC ?

29-Oct-16
We should have picked up this one on our way up instead of coming all the way back to the hut then back up! Extra steps lol. A quick spot of camo and I got matt to retrieve since I tripped over and my knee is still stinging thanks for the nice sized cache Smile

24-Oct-16
2410 After doing a tree day tramp around Studholme Hut and MacIntosh Hut I collected this at the end. A quick dash up. A slightly slower find and quickly back to the car before heading back to the tron.

28-Sep-16

13-Mar-16
This took us a while to find. It is well camouflaged and looked exactly where it was a few times. Enjoying all the views- a first time here for us. TFTC Smile

23-Jan-16
I walked right past this twice thinking it was at the hut, and I hadnt actually read the description or hint! so I was annoyed with myself that I had to walk back up the hill again to find it! haha. took me a while to find this well camouflaged cache. No TB was there unfortunately, but not too many have been through since it was dropped, so shouldnt be hard to track. TFTC.

17-Sep-15
FOUND IT! Nice place for a walk. Well hidden spot i could not find it without the hint! Tftc!

02-Aug-15
After a sunday morning stroll up to Dom's Spur and back with sveppi and 2 muggle friends, we attempted to find this cache. The hint was kind of complicated and lenghty, our 2 GPSs wouldn't agree on the degrees but we searched the undergrowth of about 10m off the RHS of the RH sign post and couldn't find it. Our mubble friends were getting impatient so we didn't stay more than 10 minutes. There is a dead Tutu bush that was obviously sprayed and if the cache was originally under there, would have been exposed once the plant lots its leaves. It's over a year since it was last found, so it may be gone, or we may have been looking under the wrong bushes...

02-Aug-15
On the way back from a walk up Dom’s Spur we decided to check out the hut and try to grab this cache. Found the junction sign and think we understood the hint but couldn’t locate the cache. There has been some recent spraying in the area so suspect it might have gone missing. We will be back this way for sure (really want to do the trig walk) so will try again then. Maybe CO can confirm it’s still there as it was last found over a year ago? Thanks.

Raining like mad, found with angelndemon tnln

03-Aug-12
Very very wet day!!! The tracks had turned into rivers LOL had a quick nosey in the hut, which was occupied by a couple of possum trappers who were bunking there for a week. So after a quick chat and a signage of the hut book, we went back out into the cold wet younder and went cache hunting. Excellent clue, was found resonably quickly by Demon, much to Angels delight as her feet, well mainly her toes were trying to vacate her appendages to look for a warmer climate lol! Water water everywhere, also to Angels delight Demon managed to arse over hahahaha, soggy butt but no soggy toes for him in his flash boots.

TFTC TNLN SL Cache quite well stocked (and dry) Big Grin

Nice cache, good condition. In fact, this cache has the best content I've ever seen. We found this one on our trip around Kaweka Forest. Thank you

07-Nov-11
Cache was found in good condition on the return journey from Kaweka J (where our cache at J has now found its way back to correct location - many thanks to all parties involved!!) TNLN TFTC Very windy and a tuff scramble for the kids just below Dom Biv, sorry didnt get to check on that cache as kids needed 'reviving'!!! Nice patch of snow near J for fun sleding!!

31-Aug-11
Found it while out with Napier Tramping Club on climb of Kaweka J.

I nicely prepared cache. Easy find and a nice tonic to put you on a high before the trudge up the hill. Left a donkey which we picked up from a cache the day before and took what I thought was a geocoin. On closer inspection (back home) I'm not sure it is trackable at this or any other site. An interesting item never-the-less which I'll gift to the cache owner if it isn't a trackable item.

17-Nov-09
It seems that this cache has been muggled. It is a shame that a cache in such a remote spot suffers in this way, but it has disappeared. Because of the remoteness, and infrequent opportunities by owner to maintain/replace, it will have to come off the list. Sorry, folks!

29-Aug-09
came over from the lawerence hut(taihape rd) via black birch ridge(heaps of pig sign), 16ish km's, crashed in the hut, knew the cache was here but couldnt find it(found a pen under the door, reached around as best i could). went up to kaweka 'j', along studholme saddle, off to kiwi saddle hut, 9 hrs tramping through snow and tree carnage, another 16ish km's. from kiwi saddle hut, down to 'the lakes' car park(taihape rd) and back lawerence rd, 20+ km's. hard tramp, but the views of ruapehu etc, stunning, over 50km's trampn, i must be mad. the next kaweka mission, approx 70 km!

A nice easy find. Filled my water bottle here before starting up the Kawekas. A rather cute hut and a very nice placement. Many thanks.

Originally looking for Little's Clearing but drove past the turn off and decided to plough onto this one. A very easy walk to a very well-kept hut. A very first FTF for CzechKiwi, who is keen to return to take advantage of the many trails in the area, and doubtless and opportunity to lay more caches. All of this lead to an interesting discussion on the way to Littles. If geocachers wanted to be really eco-friendly, shouldn't the idea not to leave "clutter" about in the countryside but to have more of the now defunct virtual caches? And how eco-friendly is geocaching when it seems to encourage a lot of driving but not much walking. CzechKiwi was disappointed this was so easy and was yearning to do some serious walking. I guess that is the difference. I am a geocacher first, and a tramper incidentally. Czechkiwi is the exact opposite, so I am looking forward to doing the caches in the ranges with her. TVMFTC. Took brick and added a little something of our own. Cheers.

My first FTF, with TreMichLan who introduced me to caching. I liked the hut a lot and would be keen to explore the region more. TFTC.

A TB from Aussie is in this cache. He is called Mtn-Man, and his best aussie elevation was 630m! He is presently at elev 980m, and hopes to get to the new cache at the top of Kaweka J, by courtesy of a good, keen tramper-geocacher.
