A belated log to record my attendance at this interesting event. Damn that frog for his organisational skills that managed to put us at the start of the May Day event.

Picking up Smacky the Frog TB (approrpaite name??) to take it for a ride.

This event was attended at the start of a mountian bike ride covering 900kms over two weeks from Adealide to Blinman.

TEAM "A"
we just happened to be at this location at the designated time........ when all of a sudden a distant ring of the local town hall bells chimed, we noticed quite a few people make a quick dash to the edge of the fountain and started to fold many pieces of coloured paper and proceeded to float them in the above said fountain.
We proceeded to fold and float our boats ( about 35 in all). Whilst this was happening, Mark handed out some very special path-tags to commemorate the sad loss of his brother BARRY who was one the the victims of 'Black Saturday'.
The bells chimed again, so we all just wondered off in different directions, letting our little flotilla of paper boats to fend for themselves.

Many thanks to FREDDO, in organising this event, It was a very special way for Mark to say a final farewell to his brother.

Cheers from the [purple] FLIPPERS[/purple]

Another outstanding flash mob event, and like the last one, it was unwittingly organised to coincide with a non-geocaching event. This time it was May Day, so we celebrated solidarity with our union comrades. I think I managed to get around ten boats launched before the deadline.

Thanks Freddo for another memorable Flash Mob event!

I wasn't intending to attend any WWFM event this time around but little geo daughter was confined to the Womens and Childrens Hospital with an infection and this sort of put me in the area. So I wandered down form the hospital, had some fun folding paper boats and then went back to the hospital for some more serious stuff.

Picked up 2 GC's from o'cholio to move along.

The TiedyeSmileys enjoyed this event and meeting some of the other teams who until now have been just names in log books (the lady taking orders in the cafe afterwards was also rather bemused with the names on the orders Smile
Mr TiedyeSmileys was a bit finger tied and joined the ranks of the origami challenged; every second boat somehow ended up having an extra couple of steps and were half the size of all the others Red Face

Came up, with 2 of my g-kids (TheTribe) from Hindmarsh Island, 200km round trip and wandered around the square taking pics before the bell struck 10. I laughed at the irony of the unions May Day march assembling at the same time as this event next to the fountain and us making colourful boats.

This event was special as it commemorated the loss of Flipper&Co's brother in the Victorian bushfires. My condolences to them and their families. I am very much aware of the devastation of bushfires as my partner David, daughter Melanie and her partner TJ and grand-daughter Lakita are all long-standing (31 years between them all) Country Fire Service volunteers with David going to Victoria to assist.

My boats bobbed along with the others with some turning into submarines under the fountains cascades. I managed to make 13 in the 15 minutes, which I thought was good as I had never made anything origami before this week.

My pics from the event are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mundoo/sets/72157617517075253/detail

This was my 2nd WWFM event and it was good to meet some of the 'names' I see in the logs and the forums. I enjoyed the non-event afterwards and was especially pleased that my WWFM V geocoin had arrived in time for the event.

This was our first WWFM and won't be the last. We thank
the organisers for the event. It was a special time to reflect
on the lives that have been tragically lost in the Victoria fires.

Our condolences to Flipper and Co. and also to all family and friends of Flipper’s brother Barry (who died in the Victoria fires).

Thank you from the Zak Power Team

... and we didn't make it because I thought it was tomorrow Red Face.

02-May-09

We arrived about the same time as our comrades for the May Day rally. I snapped the past AEU President (pic). She approved [^] of our commemorative activity, so that was good.

The WWFMV event was special. Our comrade Flipper Mark was there, and as he was handing out commemorative Pathtags for the Victorian fires, I thought about his brother Barry who was tragically lost in the height than 451+ radiant heat. Take a few moments please....................

Check the pics and video to suck in the heat. YouTube it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rNdWgfc-QU

And what about the boats? I floated a baker's dozen. A dozen pre done and 1 on site. Smile As it is International Composting Awareness Week (May 3-9 http://www.compostweek.com.au/ ), we declared we were also contributing to this important week by leaving the boats to compost naturally.

Our thanx to Mr(s) Frog. Amazed to see Mr Frog's twin comrade show up at the Flash Splash event too. Surprised

Clear skies from TeamAstro. The question remains, where was the Fiery Sallymander.... is she really in Padcacher land [?]

Managed to do some shopping at the market before making my way to the vicinity of the fountain and to mingle with the May day marchers. As the bell tolled we moved like iron filings to a magnet and started folding paper boats.

Thanks to one of the younger members of the whitedog gang for helping the origami challenged. Thanks to Freddo for organising the event.

Left a TB for discovering and numerous paper boats, Took two pathtags, thanks to the generous Flippers.

Didn't expect to be in the middle of another rally, and thought they would've taken some notice when a bunch of strange, non-flag-waving people suddenly turned into a mob and started folding paper boats! They didn't, and the o'cholio duo proved their mettle (or lack of it) in origami. Thanks Freddo for organising this great event, and to whitedoggang for showing us how to fold boats properly Red FaceRed Face

G’Day Sunee, Sandee and Shorn

Greetings from WWFM5 - Fahrenheit 451, downunder in Adelaide South Australia.

Fahrenheit 451 flash mob was held as a short memorial to the estimated 200 persons killed during bushfires in Victoria on 7 February 2009, Black Saturday.

Our flash mob was held at local South Australian time. Bright, clear and sunny. At 10am when the bells on the GPO clock tower tolled we congregated began to fold and float a flotilla of 200 paper boats in the large fountain at GZ. As the first of the boats were placed in the water we realized we had a striking and colourful commemoration. Nimble fingerwork by the attendees created a vivid armada over the next 15 minutes.

Once again the Adelaide flash mob event was an island of caching madness in a storm of people. You may recall that our WWFM4 event was watched by 300,000 people attending the local Christmas pageant. This time GZ at WWFM5 turned out to be the assembly point for the Trade Union May Day march. At the start of the event we were greeted by 6 police cars and 2 police motor bikes parked by the fountain. By the end of the event at 10:15 around 1000 people were gathered in the park, many taking quite a bit of interest in our pretty display and offering enthusiastic comments.

The log book count is 18 teams attended the event. Estimated to be 40 people.

Condolences to attending team Flipper and Co. Flipper’s brother Barry died in the Victoria fires. A commemorative pathtag 14BARRY was distributed to all teams.

Special mention to Team Hurtle who arrived by fire engine in his fireman’s uniform. That was a very impressive entrance in his big red appliance.

Fahrenheit 451 flash mob event was a unique and fleeting memorial to fire victims and the tragic hours of Black Saturday.

Regards

Comrade Freddo.

Good Hunting

Cache site has been updated with the following instructions for the flash mob event.

Flash Mob will commence as the bells in the GPO clock strike 10am. At this time you should approach the fountain in Victoria Square and begin folding Origami Boats. Our ambition is to float 210 paper boats in the fountain in the next 15 minutes.

Instructions for simple Origami Boats can be found that the following sites. With a little care and practise it takes less than a minute to fold a fun boat from a sheet of A4 paper. If we have 20 people at the event we will need to fold and float about 10 boats each.

http://www.origami-fun.com/origami-boat.html

When the clock strikes 10.15 please leave the flash mob scene. For WWFMV debrief we will move to Ritz Cafe on Gawler.

Hi Watchers and possible flash mob event goers.

This flash mob event was posted on 1 Feb 2009. Six days later the most tragic events occurred in Victoria. It is now intended that the flash mob event will be in memory of the enormous loss of life that happened on Black Saturday. Details of an appropriate flash mob are being prepared and will be posted.
