Outnabout for some solo caching while travelling from The Great Leap Forward Mega event in Adelaide to the Capital GeoBash Mega in Canberra. Taking the long route today to collect another LGA. Its always a great day for caching. TFTC The Farmers 5

The grass is a bit overgrown here but made a path through to the plaque and then soon found the cache nearby. Interesting bit of history.

#6008 2nd for today
I was starting to get a bit stir crazy at home so I decided to head out and grab a few caches around the Adelong & Tumut area. It was a beautiful sunny day, not too hot and mostly muggle free, for obvious reasons. I was a bit late getting away due to ScoMo's broadcast this morning. But I still managed to make a good impact on the unfound caches in the region. I particularly enjoyed the wander around the old gold-mining works around Adelong. A bit of water flowing through here today and with the green, it was good to see. Also enjoyed the walk around the wetlands in Tumut. Some lovely views along the Tumut Plains road later in the day too.
Apologies for the smell of hand sanitizer on the log. I went through a lot today.
Thanks The Farmers 5

I was a little concerned as I approached GZ as there was what appears to be a relatively new fence. But luckily, the cache was there safe and sound.

Fitzy_1965, myself and 4 out of our 5 geokids are heading to Tumut for a Canberra (and Goulburn) invasion this weekend. Most logs where signed MK, LTR, G2K (& F65 when he actually hadn't found one)
On the road to Tumut now......all these caches were found quickly and in good condition.

We left ACT early for the Tumut Invasion so we could grab some extra caches along the way. Thank goodness for an easy find after some of ozpirate's nasty ones. Interesting to read the plaque which most people travelling this road wouldn't even know was here. TNLN SL TFTC Farmers 5
This cache has a bit of history to our family. The original manager James Dunn, he held this position for some 20 yrs, he is our 3rd ggrandfather. He was born in Monksilver, Somerset, England and like Thomas, Matilda & family travelled to Australia on a very long journey.
He married at Mt Adrah to a local Lady Elizabeth Jamison a daughter of a past convict. They had 11 children, 3 of which were born here at Mt Adrah. After his time here he moved up to the Lachlan area where he lived out his life and was killed in a horsing accident.
Thanks for this cache which means so much to our family The Farmers 5, Lil Donna

#7952 - 10:20; I was headed down to Melbourne to visit the geoaunt in hospital and catch up with the geostudent while I was there. Being in no hurry and seeking to avoid some of the boredom of the highway, I decided that today would be a good opportunity to take a detour and collect a few caches along the way. The route took me along the Snowy Mountains Highway through Adelong to Tumut, then south through Batlow and on to Tumbarumba before heading back for the Hume Highway and Melbourne. The plaque is behind a bit of cover, but spotted the rock wall and soon after the cache. TFTC The Farmers 5
This is our fourth trip to the northern island this year. The first three were primarily for family events but with some opportunities to do some caching along the way. The fourth trip is different as caching is our focus. After getting off The Spirit of Tasmania we are heading north to cache at Wangaratta and then Yass before heading into the ACT and Queanbeyan for a week. After that we will travel to Jindabyne for a few days with summiting Mount Kosciuszko being our main target for this part of our trip. Then we will visit Cooma and Tumut before heading back down the track through Wangaratta and Mansfield as we make our way to Alexandra for the MEGA. After the weekend we will continue to make our way south and back onto the Spirit of Tasmania for the “drive” across Bass Strait. We are really looking forward to three weeks of intense caching in great areas and, hopefully, catching up with some geocachers in each of the areas we will visit.
Today we spent most of the day in the car travelling from Tumut to Tarcutta, Culcairn, Finley, Cobram and Corowa. The main purpose of such a route was to visit another waypoint for a multi which started in Canberra and to find GCA caches in four Local Government Areas as we work towards the CGA Trophy Challenge of finding at least one GCA cache in all Local Government Areas (LGA) within a 100km radius of our finding centroid. Our current centroid is in central Victoria meaning that the LGAs we need to visit are all in Victoria and we will have to visit them during trips outside Tasmania. If we could find a GCA cache in the four LGAs today, we would only need to find a cache in another seven LGA to complete the challenge. So we planned a long day driving. With such a long trip we took the opportunity to look for some GC caches in each of the areas visited and along the way. In fact we found many more GC caches than GCA caches but we managed to reach our GCA goals for the day.
There were a number of GC caches on the Snowy Mountains Highway between Tumut and the Hume Freeway and we stopped to look for, and found, most of them.
We were a little apprehensive as we approached this cache as there was very tall grass between where we parked the car and GZ. We took our usual snake deterrence precautions and made our way across. It was interesting to read the information on this memorial to the first settlers in the area. It took a few minutes of hunting to locate this cache. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks The Farmers 5 for the cache.
***** We are currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. On 1 September 2017 our average was 86 which seems close to the 100 target. However given that we have found so many GC caches, we have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get our average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that we can strive to attain this challenge. After 408 caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 97.0. We are now entertaining the possibility that we might be able to achieve our gaol before this trip ends. Progress has been better than anticipated.*****

Heading to Tumut overnight so grabbing a few caches along the way. Stopped off and almost gave up before I started. After reading the last log, I decided I should atleast give it a go. So I stomped through the grass on this nice warm 36 degree day, and once near GZ, it didn't take long to scare off the large skink to retrieve the container. Then I hightailed it back to the geomobile. Nice plaque.
Thanks The Farmers 5 for placing & maintaining the cache for us to find.

You can barely see the sign the grass is that high! More like find the sign not find the cache!
Dad said "don't do it" but I did it anyway making sure I surveyed the ground with great caution looking for snakes. There was no easy path in, just straight through the long grass.
Got to GZ and eventually made the find after a few wrong looks. Thanks

Today was the first full day of our caching adventure with Rapidlywild in Tumut. I have never really been to Tumut before and was quite surprised by the size and the beauty of the place. Lovely water ways that were crystal clear. Just a lovely place to drive around and explore.
Headed out along another road then collected all the caches on the way back. This one was the 2nd and another quick find for me as RW had already collected this one a previous caching adventure. Quickly signed then on our way back towards Tumut.

[:(!] Went for a weekend caching run, left Wagga about 5.30am and did a circuit through Adelong, Tumut and Gundagai arriving back at Wagga about 6.30pm the following day and breaking the journey by spending the night in Tumut, parked the geocar as close as possible to GZ and walked in from there, on arrival at GZ the cache was in hand in a matter of minutes.

Found this one during our month long tour of SE Australia. It is our intention to find as many caches as possible during our stay and as a result logistics dictate that this generic log will have to suffice .Hope the cache owners, to whom we extend our gratitude for their efforts, will all understand the reasons for this. All good wishes from us both.

The long weekend has arrived for us Canberrans, so what better way to spend it than to team up once again with Rapidlywild and set off for Wagga and surrounds for what was to be another epic geomission?
RW did the driving-so we just had to make sure she was topped up with water and “Mother” from the esky to keep her going safely, whilst I provided the entertainment lol [:O)] We had a great day’s caching on Saturday, and Sunday’s effort ended in an epic 22hr day at 7am Monday when we arrived back home with a swag of finds and big caching hangover lol. Craziness! [:O)]
Moving on down the highway back to the Can, and this one wad the next stop. After jumping out of the geomobile, it was on with the torches and off we went to start the search. What a hidden little piece of history this is! Would never know that this monument was here with out a cache to bring us here! TNLNSL before moving off for more
Thanks for the hide at this interesting little location, the farmers 5

A long weekend in the ACT, well that only means 1 thing..... GO CACHING !!! So it was specimenX and myself off again, target - Wagga Wagga, Junee and Gundagai. We headed off on Saturday morning and collected along our travels. We spent the Saturday and Sunday caching around Wagga Wagga and Junee then we moved over to Gundagai on Sunday night and didn't get home until 7:00am on Monday morning.
We visited the Monte Cristo Homestead which was awesome and also visited the Junee Chocolate Factory which was also an experience. On the Saturday, the Junee Chocolate Factory got their name into the Guinness Book Of Records with the longest string of liquorice attempt (well over 519m which is the current record) and we were advised they were successful. How cool is that? We brought some chocolate of course and continued our travels.
As we usually do on our adventures, we visited lots of cemeteries and we actually visited one that gave us the real creeps, which doesn't usually happen to us. All in all we had a brilliant weekend and we are definitely suffering a caching hangover today. Lots of laughs, lots of stupidness and an all round great weekend
Onto the cache:
So we had headed out of Wagga Wagga now and decided to detour and grab a couple along this road. This was the first collection and it was found nice and quickly. Log signed, returned and off we continued

Got that ole travel urge again and the need for some new uncharted places. So Victoria here I come. Travelling down the Hume Highway to Tumblong, Tumit, Batlow, Corryong then on to Albury. and all points South to the HCRT Series, and also find other caches on the way. Cold, Cold, Cold. Wet, Wet, Wet. But besides that Nice cache thanks for the History lesson, Nice cache.TFTC

If it wasn't for geocaches we would miss these little gems of history. Amazingly I was reading an account of Strezlanki's exloration of the Australian Alps and how the party started their trip from the nearby Ellersie station. It is a lot easier today to drive this trip and wasy easier to navigate, the polish explorer was laden with heavy surveying equipment plus supllies while we get by with GPSr's, his adventure was totally awesome in difficulty and accuracy. The country side is certainly a lot easier to travels nowadays than in the time of the Crane settlers and the early explorers. Thanks farmers5 for the cache.
Today we drove from Wagga to Tumut picking up caches on the way.

The first for the day caching up in tumut. My phone always losses it around this cache, and tells me I'm far off from GZ, so i did this one completely blind and just pulled over at a likely spot and had a look around. Bingo. Got it. Now I don't need to worry about this one every time I go past it. TFTC Farmers!
The area went thru a burn off of long grass and the cache and hiding spot were both lost.
A new cache and fresh log sheet are now in place.
Good luck in the hunt.

I have been reliably informed that the gent who owns the land near this cache has done a burn off and although he knew about your cache he forgot about it until it was to late and it went up in smoke. He will place some hide material back so the container can be rehidden. I understand that the gent was most upset when he realised what had happened. Cheers 4 now.

#429 it has been a little time since I have been at the computer to do some logging now it is well and truly time to catch up on the geocache logging and leave the waymarks alone for a little while although it has been fun adding a number of waymarks. Just to keep you all up to date I am on day 130 of continuous caching and have 23 days of caching to log before I am up to date.
This was just the way to end another day working at the paper mill on the road home I realised that the previous time through I missed this one needing to achieve one for the day it was a perfect opportunity to score another. Arriving at GZ I began to look at the plaque and then thought the cache is off to one side of this monument. So began to home in on GZ and what did I see but the cache on the ground this must be a little bit of an anoyance so picking it up singing the log I returned it to the obvious hiding spot and hoped that the animals will leave it alone.
Thanks the farmers 5 for bring me to this wonderful spot.
