Cache # 11504 on 12 Oct 2024Earth cache day was a great excuse to get back out to this part of the ACT, last time was in 2016 with Winterdragon! Joined forces with TikvaNZ and Fox in Jox to walk this trail and collect all the available caches. Most of the walk was very pleasant along trails, but towards the end of the trail, significant bush bashing was required. This made the return trip on the skinny path seem like a highway! Slow bush bashing for this one, but as always spectacular views were the reward. Fox made the find happily. Thank you mtbikeroz for the cache and the fun!
Joined up with AngelG and TikvaNZ for a walk around Legoland, mainly to get an earthcache for this weekend. But I've been wanting an excuse to get back here and get a bunch of the Legoland caches. Great day for it.Stomped through the long undergrowth to gz. What an amazing view. One of my favourites throughout Namadgi. Thanks for looking after this cache MBO.
Find # 1251314/7/2024 On a recent trip with fellow geocachers, discussions were had of possible hikes. Legoland was one area that a few of us were very interested to visit, with some of us having found half of the geocaches, and others still had many to find so a date was set.Very frosty start this morning. It was -2 in the Legoland car park though thank goodness we were able to drive as the gate was still open.Once assembled off we went in the direction of Legoland. Turned out to be a beautiful day, clear blue skies, with a crisp breeze persisting throughout the day.Accompanied by Tankengine, dty73, Aquillis, KittyKatch, Joolay, Search4s, Domsky, and QueenK8. Great company.Spectacular views and stunning granite formations. Namadgi is the spiritual home for many, myself included. All caches found, and logged. Thanks mtbikeroz for Ridge of Stone ??
LegolandFound with Tankengine, dty73, Aquilus1, Joolay, contesta, Search4, Domsky and Queenk8. What a fabulous place to explore. I have wanted to visit for a long time as I love Namadgi granite. A perfect winter day for a visit. Great spot and such wonderful views and magnificent boulders. I sure am glad that Domsky found the cache hidden under rocks at our feet and we didn't need to climb anything crazy. Thanks for the hide mtbikeroz
I had the most wonderful day out! It began with a drive in the morning mist down to Namadgi with a temperature around -2 degrees. But you know the saying: There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing ??Then followed a few hours of walking through some spectacular rock formations and bush landscapes.*sitting here trying to type a log while I'm still largely lost for words*Maybe I'll post a photo instead. After I left the party, I visited the site of the former Honeysuckle Creek tracking station; this made my internal science nerd very happy ??Thank you to everyone involved in organising the day out, and to mtbikeroz for hiding a geocache here as an excuse for us to visit ??
Found with a great group of geofriends on a beautiful day. Stunning location. TFTH
Out for a walk with a lovely group of Canberra cachers. It was a freezing start to the day and when we arrived at the car park, the puddles of water were just ice. Sheets of ice. Nothing like a walk to get warm and some good company to take our mind off the cold. As the sun appeared, we gradually began to warm up and we found this one along the way. The views were spectacular and the size of the granite is mind-boggling here. It was such such a joy to finally visit this place. ThanksDomsky
I'm out and about with my family today to visit Legoland and was prompted to venture up to this next cache along the trail.Well, sort of along the trail, as 100m of bushbashing would have you believe differently!Managing to avoid any undesirable critters and the spikier plants for the most part, I was spat out by the bush at a pretty awesome outcrop of rocks with an amazing view to boot. With some thick undergrowth having sprouted up, the hunt was a bit more difficult even with another set of eyes to help.Eventually, after receiving word that the rest of the group had given up and headed back to the car, we had to call it quits and log a DNF, thus committing myself to a further 200m of bushbashing at some undisclosed point in the future!Still, the view from up here is certainly worth it - so a big thanks nonetheless goes to SecretSquirrel-BJC and mtbikeroz for guiding me here and giving me a reason to return!
Far from (and high above) the madding crowds in Ororral Valley today we went for a walk through LegoLand in search of a recently solved puzzle. Along the way, with two previous finders as guides, we explored the tors and caves of this pretty area which I'd last walked in well before the fires (and before caching).
A spectacular spot here, and although somewhat overgrown since my guides' last visit, the cache was still found reasonably quickly. Thanks, mtbikeroz!

A pleasant e-bike ride up from the old tracking station, followed by a wander through the lush regrowth. Cache soon found, completely untouched by the fires. Over 2 years of unlove on this one. Great views. Well worth the visit. TFTC.

I had overheard Joolay and Tankengine chattting about coming up Lego Land to do a little caching as one of Tankengine's caches was found, out in the open by a muggle who had heard about geocaching, but wasn't really a cacher. He had replaced the container in a hiding spot then put it on Facebook. Luckily Tankengine got the news, so Joolay and he were going to replace it to its original hiding spot and pick up a few others while they were there.
I have already picked up a few in the area, but there were a couple still outstanding so I asked if I could join the party. In the end there was Tankengine, Joolay, Aquilus1 and I out and about on a beautiful day.
I loved this spot like many of the areas up here. The boulders, the views and the atmosphere just make it such a wonderful place. Yes, there is a bit of bush bashing to be done once you leave the path, but boy is it worth it! Tftc Tankengine!!!

Up at Legoland to replace a nearby cache by TE who had been advised it had been muggled. I jumped at the chance to accompany TE to replace the cache and then it became an expedition with Aquilus1 and DTY73 joining us. I loved walking past all the rock formations coming to here. It was pretty tricky to get to and lots of clambering over rocks and maneuvering around boulders, scrub and dead tree limbs. Totally exhausted at the end of the day but loved the views, the effort and the company. TFTC
The opportunity came up to head out into this area with Tankengine, Joolay and dty73 so of course I said I was keen to come along as well. Its an area I have been wanting to get out into for a very long time and with TE needing to do some maintenance on one of his caches a perfect opportunity. I was surprised at how easy it was to access and the walk mostly pleasant and quite easy on this beautiful spring day. The 'off into the bush' sections varied in how easy it was to get through, a real push at times, mostly not to bad for 'Namadgi' caches.
The area is absolutely stunning, the granite formations spectacular and I am so pleased to say I have now visited. Mostly the caches were easier to access than I had imagined but it did help to have the CO of a lot of them along and then some team work to get in and out of others. (thanks for hoisting me back out of that one cache guys!) A great day out with some great company, thanks for the cache.
This was a spectacular location with the views and the granite, was a bit concerned about the location but once there it was much easier to access than I could have hoped for... Glad it wasn't on the other side! FP.

Went for a walk here to warm up for a little hike I mean to take in a week's time. By chance, I met another geocaching party - the first time I have been positively identified by another cacher! I enjoyed meeting them, as much as I try to remain incognito... The walk here was harder than I thought, and a good workout up and down the rocks.

I was last here 10 years and 1 month ago. That day I found my 50th cache. Today it was 5,985! DogboyOz wanted to take some photos in the cave at legoland for a school project, so while he was setting up I came down here to find this cache. Spectacular location and a monolith which reminds me of one across the valley. A worthy cache for international geocaching day.
Thanks mtbikeroz

Some great spots along the ridge. Made my way down here through some very thick scrub (just have to push through), but the terrain not too bad otherwise. Managed to get into the right spot for the cache fairly quickly and it was a simple find. Took some photos of the great views (pity about the smoke) and then moved on.
Thanks,
Thanks,
What a crazy cache. Very hard to get to but very rewarding once you manage to find a way.
Creat outcrop and awesome formation across from it too. Just magical. As we took some time to get to this one, needing two attempts as the fist one ended on the cliff edge, we didn't have time to stay and take it all in slowly as the others were waiting. but a FAVpoint no less for this great cache.
Thank you SecretSquirrel-BJC (Adopted by mtbikeroz) for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

I made some poor choices on how to get to this cache, but the scratches were all forgotten when I got to GZ. Amazing views & thankfully the cache wasn't too hard to find after the slog through the bush TFTC! Definitely a favourite for me.
This was one of my most nightmarish attempts at finding a cache. We thought as we looked at the GPS, oh, it isn't that far away, how hard could it be? It was hard, really hard. Not sure if there were easier ways to approach it but I got many scrapes between bush bashing, squeezing between and under unforgiving branches and stone, even sliding down under brush on my back at one point. I remember thinking, how the hell are we going to get back (it wasn't fun). In the end with daylight fading and my leg aching, we had to call it quits even though for the entire torturous time it seemed like we were so close. I'm glad we made that call. It was definitely memorable and enforced the perils of Namadgi.
Bush bashed our way to this one from the nearest path. Got close to GZ but not quite there and the shrub got even worse for the last few metres. We managed to find a reasonable way to the cache and Cankid managed to walk straight past it following the coords!
A nice quick find here, I was VERY impressed by the condition of the log. It is in brand new condition but has signatures that date back to 2009! Not even a crease in the pages!
Very nice, thanks!

Found with Yanos16. Straight line push through the bush with an eye on previous broken branches for the easiest way through without too many problems. A great view and worth it! The colour of the rock and balancing boulders made the little trek worthwhile and so close to the actual track. Nice spot really, as you would only know to go here due to this geocache, so thanks for posting it mtbikeroz. TFTC
Some bush bashing required to get to this cache, lost the geokids some where in that bush once it opens up awesome views but care had to be taken otherwise its all downhill. Tftc.
Not a great day, discovered I had left my bag of caching tools including pens, wallet, phone spare batteries at home. Just as well the missus was more prepared. First three caches were DNFs.
A lovely spot here and the photos do not do justice to the two boulders just across from the gz. Walked past here on numerous occasions without realising how nice the spot is. TFTC.

What an amazing place. Loved the views and the find our lucky first after several DNF for the day in and around the locality scrambling among the rocks, rocky tors and cave hidouts.
A beautiful start to daylight savings and we spent the afternoon exploring Legoland! A tough slog through the bushes but we (at least Loki) finally brought a pair of gloves so managed to save the hands mostly. We made it through and emerged onto these amazing rock formations! The wind was crazy today which added to the adrenalin rush. We took time to soak in the views and take a few photos once the log was signed. Perhaps would have been more adventurous if we weren't worried about being swept away but still a very enjoyable time out here. Thanks for the fun mtbikeroz
Found this one immediately, which was a change. Some of the others on this walk had taken us 20 to 30 minutes of clambering and crawling. But it was all fun city!
Views were, once again, spectacular. A clear view to the NW to Legoland, where we were headed next.
Lots of skinks nearby, including a cache guardian.
Tks MBO!

The final cache for the day. After a find and 2 DNFs, we weren't going to give up on this one quickly. After a bit of a bush bash, we made it to GZ just as the GPS ran out of battery. Then it was a quick find. A great day, some great views. Stopped and had our lunch near GZ. TFTC mtbikeroz!
A Canberra Bushwalking Club trip in the area. After we finished, I did a few more. This is exactly why I started caching - to get me to different areas in NNP. I've walked up and back this footpad many times, but never bothered to go to the edge at this point before. Nice boulders and tors. Trip report at http://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/?p=3215 .TFTC. A favourite from me.
Injuryman and I certainly couldn't find a bush track to this cache, so we made one ourselves. Once at GZ, a bit of a hunt around revealed the cache. For a scary minute I thought we might be about 20 meters too high! What a view, and looking over the edge gave me jelly legs for sure!

Finding caches in Namadagi today with Darkmadviking, and this was one of the last few. Looked at the epic views and then how far down the cliff drops, scared ourselves greatly before heading on to the next cache.

Australian bush 2 - mcktcj 0. I tried for the second time today (first time was in January) to get to this cache but the bush was just too thick and deep. Tried many different approaches, but just couldn't get past the last 20 metres or so of scrub. Will try again when I'm next up here. I love the area, so hopefully it won't be too long before the next visit!
My geo-daughter ad I couldn't find a way through the bush - we followed several roo/wombat tracks and still couldn't get within 25 m.
Left the others of our party at Legoland for some climbing and set off to do some caching and bird watching.
Did do the bush bash as well, but on the way out took a slightly different route and rock hopped back to the trail. Could recommend long pants for this one.
Had a fantastic time, despite the bush bash, and stayed up there a while having lunch and taking photos.

That was a pretty full-on bush bash through thick scrub and the 55 km/h winds over the top of the boulders wasn't helping! I was hoping for some semblance of a trail back, but no. Have added a stub in OpenStreetMap for suggested bush entry/exit point that's kinda a close to a trail as you'll get. Do NOT attempt from south-east … come in from the north-east. TFTC
Another amazing spot, particularly as the sun starts to set. An amazing view, it has been well too long since I have walked down in that valley, I must change that!

Four easy caches along the ridge. This one was a bit of a bush bash. But it did have good GPS reception. Thanks to all the fellow cachers. Doppelfrog. Batgirl. Jmanjezza. Whiochon (sp?).
(Catching up on my logging, errr, back-log. )

I a bit confused with the names of the rocky outcrops along this ridge. We were staying in a cave at what I've always called lego land for Dopplefrogs bithday and had to come this way. Can't believe for all the times I been up here I've never really ventured furhter along the ridgeline. What an awesome spot/ great views.

Sunday 16 December 2012 - an overcast morning perfect for geocaching on the Orroral ridge. We were lucky enough to arrive at Honeysuckle Creek at the same time (9.30am?) as the ranger who opened the gate enabling us to drive to the top. Difficult walk through the overgrown bushes but an easy find once you arrive. Great location and have been here many times before. Thx Rochelle & Peter, TFTC

SecretSquirrel-BJC and his persian princess found this after so much struggling to find it while the cache had been hidden under a rock where Persian princess was standing in front of it, and when she asked asked SSBJC if that is the one... SecretSquirrel-BJC said "NO, that can't be, it is so easy!"- you know men!
Hey this is fantastic - I can log this cache myself now - haha
I brought my Persian Princess here - a beautiful stroll along a path. Oops I forgot about how rough that last 75m is getting to the cache. She fearlessly persevered - cuts and scratches and bruises! But the views were worth it.
Oh no - the bushes have come up a bit - I know it is around here somewhere close to this beautiful spot. She says - do you think it is in there. He says - no that is too easy - too obvious. A "little" while later, he says - hey look at that - it really was in there. She has a smug look on her face! LOL!
But it really was worthwhile visiting this beautiful enormous rock!
Thank God we only saw the snake laying on the track on the way back from the caches today. Bushbashing in shorts!!! It was angry because it was bleeding from the attack of a feral cat.

I absolutely loved this cache. The area and views was just spectacular. We were looking for quite a while and just happened to come across it. The bush land around it was just wonderful. THANKS FOR THE AWESOME CACHE.
Found together with Unicornnikita and Little Blue Elephant after a wonderful walk in this area. This one took a bit more time due to walking the little ones through the bush, and some wrong calculations near GZ having us vertically challenging. Thanks SS-BJC for bringing us to this wonderful spot though. Great views of snow on the nearby hills also. TFTC

Hey look it's like a little Zeus! I'm going to be on granite overload tonight! After a bit of a scrub bash (didn't I wish that I had my gaiters in the car) we arrived close to the GZ when Shell went A over T and proclaimed that she was stopping here. Reperio at 1245. After stopping by a couple of caches, we decided to press on and see where the trail got us. Surprisingly the trail led us right next to this one, we headed off track to arrive at a magnificently formed piece of rock. I wonder how tempted you were to put the cache on top of that behemoth The views were fantastic here and if we had of brought our lunch I reckon we could have stopped here a but longer.

As when bound along the track coming from Lego land II we bound right past this cache (assuming stupidly that it would be on the track). We then started bushing bashing with a 4, 6 and 7 year old in tow. Eventually dad went the final 30 meters to the cache (not knowing at what level the cache might be on). Once there the views were impressively. And yes I could have read the cache description and info more carefully beforehand:-) TFTC!
Was a bit of a battle with the dense bush for the last little bit of the walk, but what a fantastic view at the end!! And more great rock formations. A nice quick find, and admired the views for a while before heading back. It's one of the things I love about caching - anyone just walking along the track likely wouldn't even know there was such a great view so close by! Thanks for bringing me here. TNLN TFTC
Found with Rbirtles, this is a placehold log so I can put the TB in. Will update later.
Hmmm - this one took longer than what it should have. After memorising the photos of all Secret Squirrel's caches in the area I somehow got this cache mixed up with Red Sentinel and thus we went down instead of staying up. After realising the error of my ways (maybe with a bit of Newberys hints/insistence) we decided to head back up and the cache was soon found. Ooops Wow - what a view over the valley! We stayed here for a while savoring the views, taking photos and had something to eat and drink before we moved further along the ridge. Great place for a cache SS. Photos to follow soon.
Mr_roo and I were getting into the real stone areas now. It was a fun clamber down to this one. Thanks.

Oh a SSBJC cache. Hmmmm that means bush bashing then some rock hopping and then trying to find a cache. Yup I was right. This one tho, Albida and I sort of found a short grassy area off the main track. Then alittle bush bashing until we got to the rocks. I went one way he went the other. I then heard a found it! Sussed out the line on Sunshine but realised it was well outside my current capabilities. (Whew! exclaims Agent Basil) I managed to take him in the hard way at Legoland but I didn't think I'd be able to trick him into thinking that particular line would be easy, (or myself for that matter). Luckily for AB I spotted the cache just before thinking I should suggest another down climb (with the obvious advantage - to me - of having to climb up and out again. Oh well - cache found it was time to move on to the fake Legoland hiding in the real Legoland. TFTC.
Well, there were a couple of experienced 300+ cachers in the neighbourhood today - oh, hang on, this was going to be 301 - ahhh stuff it. BatGirl&Co and myself had just celebrated our respective 300th finds at LegoLand so we were doing the ridge this day. Nice cool and overcast conditions with the occassional light drizzle. A bit of a howling wind kept us honest. I noted that BatGirl was salividating a tad as she eyed off the neighbouring monstrous rock - I figured if I saw make a grab for climbing ropes, I was going to make a run for it. Phew ! Magic views across the valley - must go to the other side now for a view back. Thanks for bringing us here and thanks BatGirl&Co for your company
Came along with Tankengine for an early morning walk, a bit of mizzle in the air but perfect weather for walking, a change from last weekend to tackle some tuff ones, a slight deviation of the walking track, and I thought it must be that big granite boulder over there then I realised thats no boulder thats a Island.. gee I bet SS must have been tempt to throw the container on top of there...
As per usual a great view , plenty of new growth flowering every where.
Now onwards for those GCA caches by the owner..

After being foiled by a locked gate last time, Mtrax and I decided to try again today! – Success!
Great weather for a walk! Lots of lovely granite, even a nice path to walk along. (For most of the way anyway!). And of course – the views! Seen them many times, but this time a little greener than before – very nice! We decided that we were glad that the cache was not on top of the island! I think we would have had to come back in a helicopter! TNLN, thanks SS!

I think we would have had to come back in a helicopter! TNLN, thanks SS!
1743 - As Sol and FF say we tackled these ones early-ish this morning.
A familiar walk in - at least as far as LL1 - and then it wasn't far off the track to GZ. And what a GZ ! Great views and Rocks - just what you come to expect from an SS-BJC Cache !
Cache located and signed, we spent some time just enjoying the views, then headed back for other unfinished business....
Thanks SS-BJC - another Good One !
TNLN - TFTC !!
Cheers....

Found on an earlyish morning run with Fitzy and FarmerFrentzen.
Walked along the track towards GZ and then made the turn that took us towards the huge rock. FF & Fitzy approached from the upside as I came in from a bit lower. The well hidden and well covered cache was located after a few minutes searching and we then sat around checking out the views. Looking over the valley, we spied an area that Fitzy and I will hopefully be visiting over the comoing months. It's a big rock, even from this distance.............
Thanks to SS for bringing us out to visit this area, the views are simply stunning.

Found after a short enjoyable walk from the carpark with Sol de Lune and Fitzy 1965.
What a fantastic place to sit and enjoy the view. I always enjoy coming out here and thankfully the weather held off despite the forecast.
TNLN and thanks SecretSquirrel-BJC for another fantastic location.

Well, didn't the so called bad weather for today play havoc with my plans.
After canceling the plan for my main goal today (on Friday night), this was my back-up plan. With the weather looking good early in the day, I decided to head down to try this one. What a pity it was to see the road up to the ridge closed. Didn't feel like tackling the 4k walk up to the car park, so it was a disappointing turn around.......but, of course, I'll be back another day.
Thanks anyway SS..........................

Having finished TankEngines two Brandy Boulders / Gudgenby Gully caches by 2:45pm, I decided I had time to tackle this one and the two GCA caches nearby. So, Driving up the Apollo Rd, I got to the Honeysuckle campground - ARRRGGGHHH - Gate locked.
3:20pm - hmmmm, its 4km to the summit carpark, then quite a walk along the ridge line to get all 3 Squirrel caches, Hmmmmmmmm.
Dammit - Out with the MTB, and onto the trail I rode, onwards and upwards, pushing it severly because I knew I may run out of light later. Got to summit car park, gee it was COLD up there, VERY COLD. Dumped bike, left helmet on for warmth (and protection in rocks I was expecting), started walking along the track. AMAZINGLY, by now the wind had died COMPLETELY. I was blown apart doing the two TankEngine caches and driving up here, but now - totally still.
Followed track for a while, then branched off to find the cache easily - fantastic viewing platform from there. The temperature was FREEZING, but no breeze. Took some nice pics, viewed the snow squalls on the range westward, then took off to find the two GCA caches. Found them too - now they are a story in themselves - Squirrel - you CRAZY or somethin????? The Sentinel lookout - after the 3m drop, there is a 10m drop you have to navigate, then get back too. But what a magnificent location. As for the red Sentinel - BEAUTIFUL!!! How did you find that?
As I had finished Red Sentinel, (Man it was COLD),(My helmet was keeping me warm), I eyed off the range westward and saw snow coming in BIG time. I was already having snow flurries upon me, so I made a beeline for my bike, 15 mins away. A very gentle breeze, snow flurries, minus 2 degrees up there, made it back to my bike, unlocked it, and I was down the hill fast and got to the car in the campground at 5:45pm, with enough light to spare, but only just. It was 3 degrees at the campground. I also saw 4 black wild pigs up there, snort snort.
Thanks Squirrel for some magnificent caches with fantastic views & Great formations. Coooeeeeeee

2081. [green]Whilst trying to massage a multitude of numbers into coherent and transparent form, I recieved a very welcome email from Mrs Winglen, "Can you skive off work early and go for a FTF?" Of course the answer was affirmative, especially as it gave the chance to grab another FTF on this ridge, this time at the other end of the day.
Armed with torches we headed off along this brilliant piece of landscape. The track winds though over and around some very nice bush with a smattering of big rocks/boulders thrown in. Then there are the massive boulders like the one on the cache page photo - brilliant and awe inspiring. A very quick find in the increasingly fresh and wild wind. It was difficult for Mrs W to take in the views as her eyes were streaming. I, on the other hand, was streaming from the next lowest facial feature.
It was then time to head off to the other nearby caches, unfortunately with fading light the decision was made to turn back (J, it's the way I have chosen to tell the story, okay?)
TFTC and the brilliant rocky area. And thanks to Mrs W for the email! [/green]

Rated: for Overall Experience
When a new cache is released, if it is further than 15 minutes from home we generally don't bother going for a FTF. Rule Number 2 - when the cache is in Namadgi, Rule Number 1 goes out the window. So when this was released last night I was dying to get out here, especially after a most memorable FTF on the same ridge, almost exactly a year ago, also with McPhan but at 6am in the morning. Now that was fun!
Dashing off from work, we did have torches in case anything went wrong. But they weren't needed this time (thank goodness - it was VERY cool up there and I did not fancy a night in those low temperatures). A very pleasant walk along that lovely trail - it has the feeling of being wild up there, but the foot trail is such easy walking. With about 80m to go we left the track and had the cache before long, then with eyes streaming from the cold wind we admired the view and nearby big boulders. If the weather was better and I didn't have McPhan urging me to keep away from the edge, I might have been tempted to go exploring and see whether it was possible to get on top of that really big one, but as darkness wasn't far away I did the sensible thing. BIG achievement for the day however, when I stood beside a sheer drop and got McPhan to come quite close to look down too. Well done you. And note the photo of McPhan sitting by the edge!
Thanks Squirrel for another cache in one of my favourite places. And thanks McPhan for another trip on impulse for a Namadgi *ftf*. A great way to finish the day Left a pathtag.
