Logs
The time has come to archive the Mitcham Quarries series and let another geocacher set some in this area.
Staying at the nearby caravan park and up for some exploring. Small log is nearly full and will need replacing. Thanks for the cache and watch your step.
We are staying at the nearby caravan park, so some close geocaches were the go.
The quarry floor is certainly littered with years of junk. It was a little tricky underfoot, especially as the sour sobs are flourishing and obscuring the hazards.
A friend of ours would love to fossick here. I had only just replaced the cache and heading back out when I came across a treasure hunter equipped with spade and bag! I found a very interesting little bottle to complete the experience!
Thanks SIDEandHEEK, a very interesting spot.

An interesting hide. As described, a bit dangerous for the kids. Needs new note pad. TFTC.
First find of the day and thanks to the hint a quick and easy find. Together with M0os3y. TFTC
We're staying at the caravan park for the long weekend and enjoyed an Australia Day evening walk to this interesting spot. I love Adelaide's stone houses and buildings and imagined what quarries like this must have been like in their heydays. Unfortunately now being littered with the detritus of yesteryear I told the girls to stay in a safe place whilst I carefully made my way to the GZ to find the little cache. Our thanks to SIDEandHEEK.
Followed the trail from next to the carpark up to the quarry, then along the bottom of cliff face, for a quick find [8].
Had to clear the cobwebs away to retrieve the container [|)]. Also, fixed the broken stick, but it is shorter now .
TNLNSL.
Thanks SIDEandHEEK.

Went most of the way but the grass was very high and we came across a 6 foot brown snake. Will attempt again later when the weather is cooler
With 32 visits since the last needs maintenance log I'm assuming all things are fine
It looked like a long long way up from the road but bit by bit we found the way up to this well hidden cache. A really well hidden cache that is hidden in a wonderful part of the world. This knocks off another quarry cache, yay for us! We love quarry caches as the scenery is inspiring! TFTC
A quick find by the geo-son while on a mountain bike ride with him. We had to walk the bikes in to the quarry, but we got them to GZ. TFTC.
An interesting little spot. I always knew that the quarry was here but I never knew that there was so much old stuff lying around the base, very interesting to see the old teapots and jugs. The cache was in good condition and the log was dry. TFTC SIDE and HEEK.
Nice quarry but watch the sink holes ! ... we even stumbled across a small fox hiding behind the rocks !
Anzac day caching, found this one in a new location I have never stumbled across before. Interesting place, cant beleive it has never been cleaned up ! TFTC.
There really is a lot of broken glass and china about; I kept hoping not to slip and slash myself. Wonder how long ago this was used as a dump? That said, it's a good place to hide a cache, thanks Side & Heek!
A nice walk to GZ, and a very interesting place indeed. Having been to Brownhill Creek many times, and driving past Old Belair Road many times, I never knew this Quarry was here - quite a nice surprise
Some nice old history here, with old rusted tin and old glass bottles scattered about. SL. Thanks for placing a cache here SIDE and HEEK.

Don't know what my GPSr was thinking last time I wandered this way. Spot on this time. Walked straight past the cache heading one way and spotted it immediately as i came back the other. TFTC SIDEandHEEK.
Our last cache for the day after a great hike up above Carrick Hill caching as we went. I thought we might have trouble finding this one as we lost our GPS signal 15m prior to GZ due to the tree coverage and quarry wall. My 15m estimate up the hill proved to be right on the money. Up we went and there it was - an easy find. TFTC.
Staying at the caravan park for a couple of days. Cows with guns looked after most of the kids whilst my son and I found the cache.
Saw a brown snake on the way out too.
Thanks for the cache

a quick walk up the hill from the carpark had this one found thanks to my two very helpful geo-sons.
An interesting walk to the cache. Luckily no slithering types around today. The quarry is pretty overgrown now though a lot of the rubbish is still visible. Thanks SIDEandCHEEK for the cache in Brownhill Creek.
Got this one while we are staying nearby at the Brownhill Creek caravan park. Enjoyed the walk and finding the cache. Thanks sideandheek
Find 1277
Found with FeatherWaite during a beautiful hike in the Mitcham area.
We Have The Technology but we may have been quicker BFE Style without the GPS

Fine Elsewhere
Found in company of Bob from Elsewhere during a pleasant day's walk in the Mitcham area. First cache for the morning. Thanks SIDEandHEEK!
There's a lot of holes lurking under the lush green carpet of weeds as you head to GZ. An easy find in the end and the first in the series that will be my obsession for the next few months.
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
wet day, good fun walking through the park. found the cache just as rain was coming in. tnln, cheers for the cache.
Not the nicest of the quarries you have sent me to lately. Overgrown, and full of broken glass and rusting metal - which almost looks like it could be heritage listed! Someone recently has also been digging what looks like a giant mantrap right in the middle of the path.
Found the cache reasonably easily, although its stick has snapped off.

hmm... i don't think we quite found the correct path to the cache more like a series of very faint geotrails! oh well - once there the cache was easy to find TFTC. funny how the path seems so much more obvious on the way back hahah cheers
found under mitchymoo_03
was a nice walk but needed a bit of help from my big sister

My phone froze up with this one so had coords but no info. Found with jasmin92 and mittchymoo03(6 years old). Tftc
Ah, the last one in the series! Stepped carefully among the long grass, broken glass and the usual shards of asbestos that always seem to inhabit bush areas, and found the cache almost straight away. Probably the quickest find of the whole series! Now to solve the final. TFTC.
[Tough one to find. me and azba went in the dark and found this one hard to reach.] we originally went from the top of the hill but there was too many cliffs
Tonight we learnt to choose which cages to do at night... The hard way! Found it in the end, after a few scratches and bruises... Nice spot, that crack is made for a cache!

On my trip around the world I first visited the States and travelled from there to Australia.
Now I'm exploring the whole country driving from east to south to west to north to the Uluru and to the east again.
Geocaching can take you to spots you would never visit and so I used my trip to find some caches in every state and country.
Thank you for hiding this cache and greetings from Germany

Was in the area to do another cache and this one came up on the GPS.
Why not I say.
I didn't see thos one until I was just about ready to give up and head back to the car. It was purely the direction I was going that allowed me to see it.
This would be a good location for a CITO, could make a few bucks from all the longnecks that are there,

Bit of a scramble to get in there. Weeds and undergrowth made it a little dodgy underfoot but it was all OK as we found the target.
Was considering tackling the rest of the series soon but might wait for warmer, drier weather.
SL Thanks S&H.

The stick is broken and the tape is starting to come adrift. Might need a little TLC soon.
Mate - should not have attempted this one with my 7 yo and in my suit!! Crazy. Took us four attempts to find a way in, but the GPS took us right to the spot. Thanks for the WORKOUT, and TFTC. SL.

What an interesting little area. We love walking along Brownhill creek so great to have another cache to find along here.
Took bottles left lying around GZ, left signature sticker in the log book

My second of B's quarry caches, came scrambling down the hill from above, never actually been to this spot before. Found a nice old iron bucket handle in the rubbish that I've stashed to come back and get later! Also found a cache! Cheers B!
Oh my goodness warm up eh! Today my legs only hurt when I blink.
Nice easy find to start the afternoon.

First find on an afternoon of caching with The Penny Drops. A nice little warm up for what was to come. Thanks SideandHeek
Accessed this one from Brownhill Creek and came across "backpackers" camped on a ledge, we think they were dodging paying for using the caravan park. We got to the quarry and heard someone digging, fearing it was another backpacker doing some ablutions, we crept forward. Fortunately it was just a muggle going through the old bottle dump.

Parked at intersection of James x Old Belair. Big Mistake. Knees screamed like hell on the way down and my lung scream likewise going up. There was no way I was leaving without victory. Parking at Brownhill Creek Road definitely the way to go. Nice hide.
Got it this time, wish I had the hint last time I was here!

Thanks for the walk,

Thanks for the walk,
Put the car through the car wash at Belair tonight so had to drive down the hill to dry it out. An interesting place and it looks like there is a bit of archaeology going on here for the old glass.
Grabbed the Canada Micro Coin. TFTC.

After a chat with a NPWS ranger at the car park I headed of for my first find in this series. I intended to get this cache before having breakfast, but after reading some previous logs felt that it could take me some time to access the area of GZ and then find the cache, so breakfast came first.
As it turned out accessing GZ and finding the cache were easily achieved. In fact, the chat with the ranger took longer than getting to the cache and back again.
Hopefully the rest of the series will be just as easy.
Dropping in Canada Micro 2008 GC to continue travels in new hands.

Found with Ma7:7hew and SA_Parrothead on our Australia day run originally planned to do all the Mitcham Quarry series but injury and exhaustion led us to abandon those plans after #4 and do a bunch of easy ones. This one was a good one that we enjoyed to start the day with TFTC
Out and about on Australia Day with Ma7:7hew and Someuser.
We had a plan to do this series today.
Started of well and a nice easy walk to GZ.
Found by Ma7:7hew as the rest of us wondered where to start searching.

Accompanied by Everlasting and Snapper!!! We enjoyed our walk towards the cache. Snapper!!! found it before us because Everlasting was interested in small bottles which were sprawling everywhere as it is her hobby to collect them. I helped her. Good hide.
Thanks SIDEandHEEK for the cache.

Wow so beauty quarry - more interest with old bottles so collected... while Lava12 and Snapper search the cache oops.... SL. Thanks SIDEandHEEK for organising the cache and hunt.
Felt like going for a bit of a walk this evening, so decided to do this nearby cache, really interesting quarry with all the old eucalyptus bottles around the place. Thanks for taking us here and thanks for the cache.
Headed over here after finishing off Sleeps Hill Trio. Our second find of the series and another interesting spot. A lot of history scattered over the quarry floor too!
Thanks SIDEandHEEK

Found the way in and then searched for over 30 minutes with a hundred hiding points. The signs of the diggers was quite obvious as was the the bottles they didn't want that were left behind. I'm curious how they knew where to dig. Eventually found the cache without the hint ,which was on the phone back at the car. A micro I wondered...I was hoping things would get better and they did as I made my way through the series. Off to start.
Found at 12:00, the first of an afternoon caching with Winterdragon.
We must have found the most convoluted route in here, and when 25m from the cache we saw there were two muggles digging a few metres from the cache location. We chatted for a bit, and tried to discretely look for the cache. In the end I told them what we were doing, just as Winterdragon found the cache anyway. One of the diggers knew of geocaching: "Are you doing that coordinate thing?". It seems they were digging through the old rubbish looking for old bottles. They were finding them, but were only interested in stuff from about 1920. We forgot to record the numbers for this cache.

Our first cache of the series - we approached from the bottom, and as Uni says, we took the scenic route to the quarry face. Couldn't believe it when we emerged from the trees to find two blokes digging right near where we'd pegged GZ. I don't think they'd spot the cache even if they went looking for it, though they didn't seem all that interested when we explained what we were doing. They were much more interested in their own treasure hunt for old bottles.
TNLN - Thanks SIDEandHEEK!

Now norm'lly we're not ones to fuss
But if e'er terrain would make us cuss...
We fought our way in
And FINALLY a grin
We found it - but who will find us?

Parked less than 200m from GZ. This will be easy thinks the frog. Not so. Took ages to find a way into the quarry face and GZ. GPSr bouncing all over the place. Eventually we got there after a couple of hairy moments on muddy slopes. Recent rain has turned GZ into a waterfall. Awesome.
What do you call a waterfall without water? Cliff.

Rather shocked to get a bronze find on this one!
Not entirely sure we took the easiest approach, but we got there in the end. The colour of the cliffs here is amazing. Sat lock even wasn't too bad, and it didn't take too long to locate the cache. TNLNSL.

I thought I'd nip in here for a quick find. Not.
You can see the quarry from the car park so off I trundled. On my way I discoved old drains, crap from 100 years ago (which hopefully is before the asbestos era!!). The quarry wall is impressive - a lot of material was removed from here.
The birds were behaving at GZ which is surprising in spots like this. But watch your step! Stars are appropriate.
The car park and approach is quite lovely so thanks to the council [^]
All this and a [orange]SILVER[/orange] gave me a smile.
Clear skies and thanks to SIDEandHEEK from TeamAstro.
This quarry is a real little hidden treasure isnt it!
I've driven down this road several times on my way to caches near here over the years and never noticed it before. Nice how the council is cleaning up the adjacent area as well.
Cheers & thanks for another FTF SIDEandHEEK [^]
