Away for a few days on Eyre Peninsula to try and get some more caches.Lot's of driving between the caches this time.Luckily I left when I did, as the next night there was a big storm and large hail. That wouldn't have been fun in the swag.I came here last time when there was a lot of cut down branches. Today those have been removed and the cache was quickly found.TFTC

TFTC Redmond your cache Crumbling History that we found today. This is our last few days in Cowell. Tomorrow we will be packing up camp in preparation for a trip back to Whyalla and then onto Yorke Peninsula as per or original plan. The trip today took us out to Arno Bay and Port Neill. A good day caching 2 Earthcaches, 3 multis and 18 trads. A new LGA on top of all that. A great hideFind Count: 17645

Day 5 at Cowell and today we had Cleve in our sights. It is sad that these buildings are left to just decompose, Great camo on this and a fav for the effort! TFTC

My 10th and last day of my trip heading to and around the Eyre Peninsular. I stayed at Cleve overnight before finally making my way home after a great 10 days away. This cache would be find number 6 of 19 for the day and find Number 234 in total for this trip away.

I found what I thought was the cache had a note inside to swap items but no log so went back to the car and placed a log inside and replaced it back where I found it. After that I read some logs and seen it had a few favorite points on and the hide I found was nothing special. So I returned and stared looking again after a few minutes I located the real hide. Much more worth of a Favorite Point.

What a lovely place to go to school. So sad to hear what happened here on the other monument. Maybe those poor lost souls rest in peace.

27-May-22
Out on a lovely autumn day caching the Cleve area with iluvtrekking. Last cache for the day. Love the history of these old ruins - if they could only tell their story. Thanks Redmond

Another cache found with richlink while on our 2022 South Australia Adventure, using Geocaching as our guide.

We love caches that have some historical value and It looks as though this was a bustling little town in "the olden days" TFTC.

Thank you to all the CO’s who have placed and maintained caches for the enjoyment of all.

Found on a drive around the area. Reminder of the hard life of those living in remote parts in the 19th century. Nearby plaque remembers a fire that killed a mother and her 6 children in 1880.

Travelling Australia since March 2014 it has been a while since in SA but enjoying this visit greatly.

Currently staying in Cleve today we headed out to explore the local area using Geocaching as a guide.

Wherever we found a full or soggy logsheet we replaced it with a new one.

Last thing I expected to see out there was camels lol. They snobbed me though.
Aside from the lovely old building, the other memorial there is interesting too!! The story of the family killed in bush fires, which another cache over the other side of the gulf deals with. Very interesting history. Great hide too. TFTC. Fav point from me.

CPwanderer, GoodLook and I headed off for a weekend in Port Lincoln via an overnight stop in Whyalla Smile
Our weekend was unexpectedly extended by a day due to illness and so my tally at the end of the 'weekend' was 168 cache finds Smile
Sadly this was marred by a massive 28 DNFs SadSurprisedSad
Port Lincoln, despite being virgin caching territory for all 3 of us, did not provide us with the pleasure that we had anticipated Sad
So many of the caches were bison tubes and those that we did find, quite often were in places where a larger cache could have been hidden Twisted The other issue was the lack of maintenance on many caches Sad
There are people trying their best to maintain the 'wheres wolly' cache hides however their resources are stretched thinly..... so if you are heading over, please pack heaps of cache maintenance containers, bags and log books and help out where you can. [^]
That being said, the trip was still a blast and some great caches were found and great views were seen! Cool

Enjoyed the sights here and pondered the history as well as finding the cache Smile

Really enjoyed this hide. Nice container ..... interesting location. A favourite.

27-Jun-16
A fascinating GZ...most interesting and enjoyable.

Woo hoo, we found it!

Found whilst on a road trip with CPwanderer and Locus Cache, with the aim of the weekend to cache in and around Port Lincoln - fresh territory for us all. We certainly had a great time, however with a DNF rate of about 40% [:(!], it was tough going! We did however thoroughly enjoy the beautiful locations and scenery.

After joking all day on the Sunday we should spend another night in Pt Lincoln, circumstances presented that meant we needed to extend our time away! We took it slowly on the way home which enabled us to once again visit some terrific places

Thanks for the cache Smile

Hi there Redmond.

We found your cache **"Crumbling History"** at 10:49:00 AM today. This cache makes our find count 13919.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip around the local area today. We usually start the day off by nominating a cache some distance away from our camp site and then take a route mainly determined by the next closest cache according to our GPS. Todays plan was to visit Port Gibbon, and then head towards Cleve to pick up a few strays.

We awarded this cache a favourite point for the ingenious camouflage & ended up finding 5 & DNFing 0 caches today. Wink

**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found your cache around two metres from where the GPS said we should be looking. Wink
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape guarded by a rather large striped centipede.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** Smiley Badge.

Thanks for the hunt today,

Regards

Ian & Penny.

A very interesting place to take a break on my GPS guided tour this morning Smile
Yet another olde skool !!
There must have been hundreds scattered around the Eyre before the arrival of skool buses Big Grin

The other memorial at this location is even more interesting, and commemorates a very sad day back in the late 1800's [:o]
Bushfires are nothing new around this area !!

The June long weekend is on and Mr Parrot and a young einstein have teamed up to play as Pirate Parrots this year.
So here we are running around near Cleve this long weekend.

It sure is coming apart.

I was looking after our 2 young grand kids,so decided to take them on caching run on a couple of the back roads in the area. This took a lot longer to find than it should have, as i did not check the first thing i looked at, closely enough.A clever hide. Thanks

Took a drive from Cowell to Cleve to see the sights and pick up a few caches on the way.
Had to fight off the ants who have built a nest under and in the cache container but got it logged. TFTC

Great hide! If that was hidden anywhere else I probably wouldn't have spotted it. Found on an afternoon caching run with 5grains. Another classic Redmond cache.

Awesome hiding spot, well thought out and made. Almost found it by accident as my GPS had it 9 metres away from GZ.

13-Oct-10
Found by Mary & David at 1445. What stories these stone walls could tell. A sad name for a road. Hopefully these children went on from here to have a better life than their parents did. Our thanks to Redmond.

06-Oct-10
Awesome hiding spot, required a stick for the new or maybe old black crawling resident....... bit of history I didn't know about the area, TFTC

26-Jun-10
Didn't take long before we had cache in hand. Amazing how so many roaches and whiteants (termites) have taken up geocaching as a pastime. Don't think it will be long before the cache may have to be replaced at current rate of devourment.

This was our 3856th overall find.

Found at 3:40 PM. This was a nice area and I agree that all too often things are left to crumble and not be maintained. A nice quick find for today

Thanks Redmond for the cache.

I thought I was in for a chance at Gold but I had to be satisified with Silver. The locals do have the leg up here.

So many of these ruins around. If only the walls could talk. They don't have long before all they can do is whipser.

Clear skies and our thanx to Redmond for the cache from TeamAstro.

Big Grin FTF for us. Hooray!!!! A rare occurance for us that we managed to beat the others to it.
Picked the kids up after school & scooted out there (after replacing the batteries in the GPS)
Very interesting place - didnt know that this was here. Bit of a sad plaque nearby.

Great Hide Redmond.
