Finally get to do this amazing cycle trail. Camped up at Piro Piro campsite and got a shuttle. Fabulous day for it. Started chilly and now beautiful sunshine. Awesome country side. Many thanks for sharing a cache here. Loved how they have restored this piece of machinery.
Interesting information on the board which helped me figure out where I needed to look.
First on the trail for us today. Fantastic history! Many thanks for the placement
Very novel and cool. Nice place to hide a cache and a good walk to visit it. Tftc
My first find of the day, as I cycle the first half of the Timber Trail, staying overnight at Camp Epic. Luckily for me, the weather forecast caused a number of people to cancel their own rides. This meant I didn't need to wait long to become the "Tail End Charlie" for the day, collecting caches with no fear of being muggled (Well, mostly). The gallery on this cache is a great record of the work that has been done here to preserve this crawler over the past few years. I was impressed with the cycleway here too. In fact, on this section, we even had someone sweeping the fallen leaves of the trail with a leaf blower! What great service. TFTC
Talla64 and I are on a mission to find caches in the PWGT series. After we had found the one in this wonderful forest we went for a most enjoyable walk and found this cache. Thank you for placing a cache at this interesting piece of history. Talla guessed where it was hidden as soon as I read out the hint. Nice one.
Up around Taupo and BoP with Flowerydaze searching for PWGT and any others within easy reach. Found this one after a lovely walk through some of the most beautiful forest in NZ. We seemed to startle several flocks of Kaka as their screeching was deafening. New area for us TFTC Pumpkin Guy.
A beautiful walk to a peaceful spot. Enjoyed reading about the history and inspecting the Crawler.
Came over here with two of the kids just as we arrived at GZ a muggle appeared on his bike he’s cycling the whole of New Zealand heading north so has done well. Waited for him to carry on his way before starting the search reading the sign board while he was there help to work out where we needed to look for cache.
First stop on our timber trail adventure. Fantastic that the crawler is in such good condition and after a quick search we found the cache. It helped working out how the crawler broke down..... TFTC
What a cool place for a hide, quite cool to learn about the history associated with the crawler, thanks
Thanks Pumpkin Guy for placing this cache
It was an awesome crawler... glad I didn't need to get on my knees or crawl to the CO to find this one.
It was great to see lots of families on the trail today despite the wintery weather.

Off on the great long awaited timber trail, and this is my first find for the day. Great location for a GC. Thank you.
For me it a case of 31 days being bed side at hospital for my partner and get her back to full health pushed me to say dam it im going to make my desire to walk the Te Araroa happen no matter what so here I am.
Living life one foot step at a time.
Having the time of my life and seeing all new Zealand has to offer.
So this cache has all my interest covered the Te Araroa, caching and old machines that made new Zealand wat we have today and in a beautiful spot .
Living life one foot steep at a time as i walk from cape reinga to bluff and caching my way home as I walk the
Te Araroa and discover the hidden treasures new Zealand has to offer.
From the beach of the north to the forest and lakes of the south

Took a short bike ride into the forest this morning, fantastic, really good experience, disappointed there aren't more signs to tell people what and where to go and see, tftc.
What an awesome relic! A nice quick side trip at the start of our timber ride.
Well today has finally arrived with an early start for 5 cyclists and 2 drivers, we leave piropiro at 8am and an hour and a half later we head into the forest, with 3 on the lazE bikes it was not long before they were soon setting the pace for the day and the other 2 playing catchup.
That did not stop us from taking a detour to this cache, everything was in order here so the log was signed and replaced as found.
Thanks for the smiley and the cache

With many doubts still whirring around in my head, we arrived at the start of the track and sorted the bikes etc for the ride ahead.
I pushed aside the last minute impulse to throw the bike back in the van and head back to camp and instead waved goodbye to our transportation management team (you needed a title ).
2 of the ebikes disappeared from sight instantly - it was going to be a long day!
We took the short diversion to this interesting relic and cache and began the search. One of the team pointed out the obvious area, and the cache was in hand soon after.
We headed back the way we came to rejoin the main track and came across the other 2 of our team who'd come back looking for us - they were going to have to get used to doing that throughout the day......
Thanks for setting this up Pumpkin Guy

A friend and I headed South to ride the Timber Trail over Queen's Birthday weekend. We were very lucky with the weather, considering that the days before and after our ride were terrible! The weather was nice and fine, although quite chilly and frosty in the mornings. All in all it was a fun ride and a good challenge for us relatively inexperienced mountain bikers! Our first cache for the day and a relatively quick find using the hint. TFTC!
Quick side trip while biking the timber trail.
Plenty of other riders there at the time, managed to discretely remove and return the container while they were all looking at something else

Did the side trip of the Te Araroa Trail to grab this cache. I remember seeing this tractor over 30yrs ago. Great restoration work. Sorry no pen but have photo if CO needs it. TFTC
Out and about with the Te Kuiti Scout's, Pureora Cub Camp.

Found this while listening to the Kea up above. Saw about 5 of them flying just before we started on the path. Magical spot.
Imagine finding this relic here! A gorgeous place to visit although long arms definitely helped with the find. TFTC
This is near the start of what turns out to be an epic adventure for me.
A work mate of mine had made noises about attacking the mighty Timber Trail and I was super keen to come along too. At the time he mentioned it some weeks ago, I was unfit and didn't own a decent bike, but I was still keen.
As luck will have it, I found a really good bike for sale and I bought it immediately.
Now for my fitness. I had to start riding it now, to familiarise myself with a full suspension bike. A handful of rides later and here we are, at the start of what will be the longest and most spectacular rides of my lifetime.
With accommodation and shuttle booked only a few days earlier (apparently we were very lucky getting some at late notice), we left Tauranga at 4 am to allow for any unforeseen mishaps along the way. Turns out we had none, so we arrived an hour early for our shuttle ride to the far end or the start of the trail.
Once dropped off at the start of the track we made our way into the immediately beautiful forest. I had the caches along the trail on my radar (in my Garmin) but I hadnt even realised yet that the first one was down this little track until we were here.
The dozer had some interesting history and was a great cache holder.
The cache was found deep in the depths of the sump which I only just reached. I replaced it in a much easier to reach place for the next finder.
Thanks for bringing me here. Fav point for so many reasons!

P.S. The ride was spectacular.

Almost missed it but found when we had a better look. Beautiful walk in this forest. Thanks!
Found it with our 5yo and 2yo. Area looked so pretty, but boy was it freezing!! T4TC.
An interesting piece of history, took a while to spot the damage, but gee no wonder they left it. It would have gone off with a bang. TFTC
Just started cycling the Timber trail. Fun and nice track. Rain has also already started. Nice with a shelter. Interesting piece this. Just wonder what the ones who left this would have said if they could have looked into the future seeing it would become a tourist attraction? The hint was a must for this.
Found by hubby. A lovely walk into the bush & interesting history of this machine. Thanks so much for bringing us to this beautiful bush.
Found this in February but didn't have a pen, went back and re-found with a pen during our Xmas camping holiday at the nearby campsite.

Found with pink camo girl.

Found while cycling the Timber trail. GPS had me all over the place thanks to the tree cover and the rain but thank goodness for the hint.
Thought it was going to be impossible but put my torch on & there it was. Glad to visit this old beauty. TFTC
Found on the first day of a group ride of the Timber Trail. Took longer than it should have but the 2nd time around I felt something move a bit and there it was.
Took a quick detour from Highway 30 (whilst en route to Huka Falls from the Waitomo Caves) to grab this one.
I found the hiding place with ease but despite ending up with my whole forearm inside the tractor it took far longer to find than it should have done! Got there in the end though!

First cache found while cycling the on the Timber Trail. Slightly surprised at the fact that the last log was a month ago, as it is peak season! We got a torch out to look inside but soon realised we didn't need it! Liked the clever hint. TFTC.

Doing the Timber Trail cycling trip with a group from Tauranga. So glad we took the time to check this out on the way past - it was so interesting. Loved the reason it was left behind. It looks great now! Easy find. Cache in good condition. TFTC
13.50: On the way to the Centre of the North Island. Easy driving at the beginning but turned to more demanding later on. The description of cache and place here sounded just too interesting to pass by withput visiting. Another walk through the bushes in alternating drizzle and rain. The crawler was an easy find - the cache itself took awhile. Bring a cloth for wiping the grease from the hand(s)...[xx(]!
Weather: overcast, drizzle/rain, 14°C;
Wheelchair: not tested, maybe possible but demanding: muddy and uneven forest path, no ascents;
State: logbook desintegrating, replacement required.
Thank you for showing us this place!

Well after a change of plans we had not caches loaded in the phone or gps for the pureora forest but while we looking at the cat we hapened to fined the cache kids were stoked. Cache was dry but paper was to wet so put dry piece of paper in a new bag.
Out with Alpenmilch80, Evilno9 and 11hpg11 for a weekend in the Pureora's.
After spending the night in the Waihaha hut the plan was to drive this 4WD track (bit over rated) and go past the Center of the North Island.
Interesting piece of history.
Signed as team Waihaha.

After spending a fun but cold night in the Waihaha Hut with the KiwiLeon, Evilno9 and 11hpg11 we made ourselves back to the cars to have some 4WD fun. Arrived at GZ to have a good search going. After a while, we revisited the most obvious hiding spot to make the find this time. TFTC
A long weekend mission planned with some hardy Auckland cachers. We are heading to Waihaha Hut to stay a night and enjoy the Pureoras. Our team consisted of Alpenmilch80, Evilno9, Kiwileon, and myself. We signed our logs as Team Waihaha to save room in smaller logs.
A neat little spot to stop off and explore after driving round the back roads of the forest. Was interested to see this spot as I know I have heard many stories of the logging that went on in the Pureoras many years ago and it was great to see this little bit of history preserved.
We all took a corner and started searching but the cache was soon found in the spot that matched the hint perfectly. Thanks for bringing us here.

Down here for an adventure weekend with KiwiLeon, alpenmilch80 and 11hpg11 and found ourselves close by to this one. Wandered down to check it out and with four of us looking all over it was only a matter of time before we got it - but we still took plenty of time to get it in hand. Cool spot to come to - TFTC
While in the area, I went for a hunt for this, quickly found. Damn that would've been expensive to fix, not much you can do with a heavy beast like that, can't exactly push it to the local mechanics...
TFTC Pumpkin Guy, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 2 find of 4 today, making this find #1259

Last cache for the day. Tired legs after our jaunt to the top of mt Pureora so pleased this was a short flat walk. Took a few minutes to find the cause of the crawlers retirement but soon had cache in hand. Lots of birds calling today.
I've been wanting to explore this area for a while but never had the time or excuse to get down this way. CB has been working on a project nearby since the begining of the year but the timing to come visit hasn't been there. Found out about another trip down here last week and for once I hadn't booked up my weekend with other Geocaching missions, so I could finally come down and explore this place.
Quick jog to the cache as the rain was threatening to fall. Great to see this awesome piece of history, and to see why they left it here. Thanks for a great cache placement.

Found it after a 20k in 20k out of the timbertrail by bike. Nice place. Thank you
Nice wee break from the main cycle track. Interesting bit of history too. Found the cache quickly once I found the cause of the reason why it wasn't repaired. TFTC
whilst travelling with 2 Bulbars doing the timber trail we stopped to get these caches.
A rest day while walking Te Araroa walkway from Cape Reinga to Wellington so why not a spot of geocaching in this beautiful part of the world! Found on 18th January just back in cell phone reception country!
Read the hint and wondered how I would find that out.... A quick look was all it took to confirm the reason it moved no further! TFTC
What a beauty. Found while cycling around NZ. Just started the timber trail and it looks very promising. TFTC
Needed to get out for a ride so popped down to check out the timber trail and of course grab this cache.
Watch the fish oil that's been used to preserve the machine it stinks!
Great forest and a really nice ride.

Another year, another expedition... With Gap (of Fap and Gap). Our journey took us into the rugged King Country in search of old caches and anything to fill in Challenge Cache requirements.
There must be a few wrecks like this one left out to corrode in New Zealand's forests. Fortunately, someone has had the sense to preserve this one for Geocaching. TFTC.

Out with Squirrel Nutcase to claim a few caches plus some further steps in our Licence Challenge. Left home at 6.45am and got home 1.15am Sunday, boy did we travel some miles.
9.10am - Road in great condition, walking track very good. Bit of amazing machinery here, soon found cache and understood hint. SLTFTC

TFTC. Second cache of the day. A short stroll after dropping the boys off at the start of the timber trail. Dad worked out what had gone wrong, then I found the cache.
Stopped here on the start of our ride to Ongarue - Found it OK after a couple of minutes searching. TFTC!
A short diversion off the main trail as we started our bike trip on the Timber Trail. TFTC
Quite a structure protecting this little guy. Almost looks like a toy. Very cool though. A nice easy find which is something I don't normally say for this type of hide.
Many thanks. Well deserving of a favourite point!

Found it.......have visited this tractor a couple of times before over the years and never envisaged what was hidden here, but had to return to find the cache after taking up geocaching.
Nicely hidden! I had to go around it a couple of times before I spotted it. In my defence it was just on dusk though! This whole area is just so fascinating, perfect for an afternoon out! TFTC!
