Found it during our visit of Hot Water Beach. It was easy to find thanks to the geotrail. Tftc
First cache visited in Kawhia. Found a little used geotrail in to this one at the high point on the sandy walking track to the beach. Found after a short hunt at the base of the first stunted pine tree I came to. Coordinates are good. Agree with other finders that leg protection is a good idea while fighting through the cutty grass. Pleased to find the cache is dry and in good condition.
Terrain 1.5 nope. Interesting scramble and one we bushwacked our way in a quick find, tftc
What a spot! Our first find and a good hike! Thank you, left some extras in the container.
Good climb in the heat for us oldies. So many wildings. Obviously looking under wrong tree. good blowout though
We came over to the hot water beach on a lovely summer evening. Found the geocache - following the geo trails and then lay in a hot pool. Lots of cutty grass on the way to the cache which caused stinging legs in the hot pool but a small price to pay! It’s over 18 months since this cache was last found - it remains in very good condition. TFTC
Couldn't quite figure out what the hint meant and was feeling a bit lazy so didn't hunt for long. Oh well!
Thanks angela&ian for the cache. It’s #1421 for us. We found your cache on 19 February 2021. What a lovely spot. Came while it was cool(ish). Followed the two trail right to the cache. A little damp inside but basically ok.
Dried out the note book a bit and changed the container, added another note pad to be doubly sure
Rest of the party had fun in the pools.

Cutty grass well over my little ones head and a long bush bash for her but a grand adventure was had! Cache was nice and dry but the pencil tip was broken and I was not going to return through that with a pen so no autograph this time. TFTC!
Wishing I had on long trousers and gloves as I searched. Then around the other side was in plane sight
Tried to find this at night but that proved not to be useful. Found GZ well enough but I was searching in the wrong place. The hint made sense once the cache was located but is easily misinterpreted. The container was swimming but log was fine in its own bag. Beautiful view up here and there were lots of people digging up the beach in search of hot water. TFTC
Bit of a bush bash to get to GZ, but just added to the fun. Great spot TFTC. Late log sorry
Thanks very much for placing the cache at this great place - it encouraged us to come out and enjoy an amazing evening with an unforgettable sunset.
I didn't actually visit the cache, I wasn't happy to traipse across the dunes. Ah well, the cache still encouraged us to visit this place today so thank you very much for the cache.

On a road trip collecting a few caches. Haven't been over to Kawhia for a few years and glad to see it hasn't changed too much over the years. Didn't realise the road out to this one would be so good and the views were amazing at the top of the track. No proper track to GZ but a fairly easy path to follow and cache all good. Saw some people down on the beach making pools but we didn't have time today. We will have to come back TFTC
Good creative mind on the spot, had to walk through overgrown track, but we were not sure if we were supposed/allowed to go where the GPS was showing us. overall it was challenging but good.
GPS took me right to it. Didn't bathe, though others were, as the tide was coming in. Did go for a long walk down the beach toward the Harbour mouth. A nice day and a calm sea but no boats while I was there. Tftc
Probably not the best spot for a cache - walking over the dunes is not good for the plants... But we found it ^^
ReCached and I had already seen other hot beaches and we only came here for the cache and the view. Quite a bit of bush bashing necessary to get to GZ, probably bad for the dunes? TFTC angela&ian!

Cache #2485
I hadn't heard of this great hot water beach before, but as we're staying in the area for a few days I looked at nearby caches and decided this was a must-do.
We checked the tide times and planned a family day at the beach around it. The find itself was pleasingly straightforward; a side trip to the obvious place while I was ferrying bags back to the car. Thanks for bringing us here!

I like the black sand but it's burning my foot! We enjoyed a good bath with nice waves but didn't tried to find hot water. TFTC
#2280 After going up then down, I should have gone straight across. At first, I actually overlooked the cache itself. Great area. I went in to get my feet wet. Passing through from Hamilton to Rotorua, from Canberra. TFTC.
Steep climb up dunes to beach. Watch directions and clue and you will be successful. Thanks and removed trackable.
Checked to see that all was well with the cache, It was dry and all in good order.
The trackable TB Middy Mouse still there. Hope it moves on soon

On a wee Bubbles road trip ( motor home ) so after a lovely evening in Kawhia it was time fora bathe. Glad the weather was ab it cooler as sand wasn't to hot. Climbed to the top of dunes to an amazing view. Now oh no it's over there. Made my way to GZ but very overgrown track with lots of horrible cutty grass. Once at GZ it was an easy find thx.
Nice day for a walk out to the beach...
Quick detour to find the cache which was in good condition... A few people fishing but no soaking going on today... will have to come prepared next time and make sure the timing is right... thanks heaps for the cache placement... wouldn't have known there were hot springs here otherwise

2488 Today Kawhia was on my plan. It involved a walk around the top of the estuary, a bush walk at Te Kauri, Harbour walk (Aotea) and ended on the main beach before fish and chips at the wharf. This was one I wanted to do. This was the last for the day (6pm). Tide was in so no hot water for me. Nice quick find. Now off to the wharf for those Fish and chips.
TFTC. The track was very overgrown but we found the cache in pretty good order (just about do with a new bread bag though). The descent to the beach and the wind deterred us from trying to to find the hot springs though some others weer off to try them
Well, not really a DNF because we didn't really attempt to search... made a beeline for the beach, tide was well out so got to dunk feet in hot pools someone had already dug. Then on return, muggles were persistent, so we drove away without a hunt. But thanks for the cache anyway! As we wouldn't have known about the hot springs otherwise
Out in Kawhia with a workmate who was fishing. No problems finding this on the way home, even though it was getting pretty dark and I was working from the light of my phones torch.
TFTC angela&ian, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 1 find of 1 today, making this find #1343

Banian and I found this cache on our autumn northern roadtrip- where we did a circuit of the north island from Wellington right up to Raglan, then across to Napier through Taupo, before heading home, finding masses of caches and discovering a plethora of unique and interesting locations.
Popped over to Hot Water Beach having missed the opportunity the previous day. No hot water for us- was merely a flying visit. Tidied some rubbish insolent people had left before us and got the cache. TFTC

Found with Redants on our April Holidays Road Trip. Day one, Wellington to Onaero. Day two Onaero to Kawhia via coast road. Day three around Kawhia and today heading to Taupo. Good spot for a cache but I did get a bit wet from the long grass.
TFTC angela&ian.

Good clue still had us hunting though! Off the track so great to have time to look!
Wow the sand is super hot, great to walk on cooler ground!!!

After spending a very long time walking through bushes and getting cut from cutting grass. We could be find it at all very disappointed! First one we have not found
Bugs, cutty grass, sunset an a cache for my 50 day streak this is day 39 of a challenge with the South East Auckland Crew. Tftc
High tide now, will come tomorrow for a bath ! Greetings from Switzerland. TFTC !
Found this one after a rainy and stormy walk on the beach. (without swimming ) Thanks for hiding!
This cache turned out to be the last find of a very eventful day collecting almost all of the are we there yet series.
We'd stopped in Kawhia to dry off a bit and collect this cache and had the beach all to ourselves with the inclement weather keeping people away (being the middle of winter probably didn't help either).
Found our way to GZ and had the cache in hand without any hassle and made our way back to the car for one last push up the hill in search of a couple of bonuses. TFTC

The sun came out after the morning rain and Evilno9 & I made the drive out there to collect the geocache. What a great beach. Enjoyed my time out there and hope there will be a day I will be able to come back. TFTC
Did the nearby power trail before doing a few in the Kawhia area, no time for a swim today.
Cache found no problems and placed in 2 TB's

Today on our way to the bath I went a little off the way and found this one.

I have heard about this place a lot and in my 30 years of living nearby-ish I have never visited. Until there was a lure of a small plastic box. I was waiting for the tide to go out a bit more before going to grab the lookout cache so decided to pop up here and check it out. Well there was me and about 30 cars and hundreds of people. On a rainy day as well, would hate to think how busy it could get up here. Mentally prepared myself to walk up that steep sandy hill and soon found a little path out to GZ. A quick find of the cache and was soon on my way down again. Thanks for bringing me out here.
Found after a plunge in the pools. Closest we have come to a ftf and probably the closest we will come! Left a gift for no 2

Arrived just on dusk. There is nothing but grass on the dune top and we looked for about 20minutes before we had to give up. A more specific hint would be helpful. It's a long way to come for a DNF
Too many cutting grass, it was dark and we were naked legs... Moreover, it was more than time to dig ! We did not look for it, but just a note for the trackables.
Same as Donisa... we gave up only to take a warm bath under the stars beautiful night.
New Zealand 2103 trip for the Auckland Mega at Albany. Day 11, Te Kuiti to Waingaro. Plenty of spots and no luck for me. Thanks.

This one was a little problematic being so far off the track that great care was needed to avoid damaging fragile plants. However mission accomplished.
Finished Are We There Yet trail, had our picnic, now let's find this one.
Heavy breathing in the dunes! Naked ladies under the tree!
Sorry! Don't get too excited.
The only Shades of Grey were on the heads of these two puffing cachers as we admired the big pink amaryllis, so named because they flower straight from the ground and grow their leaves later.
It took lots of scratchy searching around and around and we were discussing a DNF, when there it was! In the last place we looked- of course!

Was in Kawhia to collect a whole lot of kayak caches and grabbed this one at the same time.
The find was a little easier as we had Kiwi69 with us.
A great view from the top. TFTC

Had a big day Planned with NovaLightning and Kiwis69 for gathering the Kawhia Harbour caches so timing was very important.
Has perhaps been over 25 years since I had been out here and the climb up from the car was still as I remembered it, difficult with all the very soft sand.
So Many choices for a location but thankfully Nova soon came up with the cache.
Cache in Great Condition.

Had a great time this avvo with the junior cachers on the beach, running between cold waves & hot pools. Pleased I opted for long shorts before searching for this on our way back to the car! Lots of hint items around GZ but good co-ords kept me right, tftc.
[8(] Despite the scratches , GPS putting me right on the spot, & a heck of a lot of searching the area, I still came away emptyhanded. Boohoo...
A bit of a search through the sand dunes before we found the spot and then much further searching to find the cache. Didn't manage to find the hot water - I think we may have been to late for the tides. Left de Go Co's TB. TFTC
Took a bit of a weird of trak way and got chopped up by cutty grass bit of a tricky find.

I don't think we found it, we did find a melted plastic blob but could not identify it as the cache as the GZ is recovering from a fire.
See attached pic of the GZ area.

Paddle around the harbour was cancelled due to a number of factors so we spent the day looking around the area. Walked up over the sand dunes with great expectations of a nice soak in the sand but we didn't have any luck finding the warm water, never mind it was a good blast out on the open beach with the wind doing it's thing. headed back to car via the cache.
Thanks for bringing us out here.

an easy find with the kids on drizzly afternoon.cache nice and dry.took nothing -left fish hook
Glad we read the previous logs as this one wasn't as simple as it sounds! "Furtherest tree" is a good clue until you start thinking "furtherest from what?" the sea? the carpark? the main track?!!!!
Bumped into our friends the Kellys on the beach while here (we are 2 hours from home) so took them on their first geocaching adventure. Lovely spot and lovely lonely beach. TFTC
PS If you are stuck - try the furtherest tree from the main track.

When we were young there were no pine trees and no road out to here, just sandhills. To get to the springs you had to walk up through the golf course to the high point of the sandhills, then head past the lone pohutukawa tree about 500m from the coast. Quick find for our cache #900.
+ a marble, - nothing.

Found after a bit of a search - previous log was a help in which tree to look under!
- TB, thanks!

Took a while to find. Hint was laughing at us as there were so many papa around... but looking under the furthers tree meant we found it.
After a hard walk in the Pirongia Forest to the Hut, we enjoyed the sun and the beach very much. Unfortunately we couldn't find the springs. But a went to look for the cache and after my GPS run out of battery 20 m before the cache I was still lucky to find it. Left GC brought from South Africa. TFTC
