Visiting from the Land of Oz for a fortnight of what you Kiwis call tramping. We (4 Aussies and 2 Kiwis) walked up to Crosbies Hut for the night. What a delight! Found the cache on our way back down to Waiomu because I was too tired yesterday after the walk in. Easy find. Great history. Those olden days folk who made their home here at the settlement must have been TOUGH! Thanks for the cache. Log is saturated but I didn’t have anything with me for maintenance, sorry.
Found it. After a long time between finds I thought it would take a while to find this. Found with ease. Thanks.
We had Crosbies Hut to ourselves last night, and are making our way back out to Waiomu today. Took a break from the rain and mud to find this cache before leaving the "clearing" - a quick find thanks to a great clue - tftc!
Another good hide along this nice track. I didn't expect quite so much climbing! My muggle friends helped search and managed to overlook the well hidden container after going straight to the right spot, thanks to the good hint! Tftc
A nice weekend tramp into the Coromandel staying at Crosbies Hut. I had decided to take a tent to avoid the full hut and had a pleasant walk and sleep. Thanks.
With good instructions we found the cache quickly. Nice place to stop for a breather. TFTC Signed as G4 being our hiking group to Crosbies Hut - avoyager, Troutfly, Team Welsh and Kiwicouple.
A plan was hatched that the Great 5 (Kiwicouple, Trout-fly, avoyager, PageNZ and Team Welsh) would do the tramp to Crosbies Hut this weekend, unfortunately PageNZ couldn't make it so it was the Great 4 in the end. Thanks for the caches along this trail.
After climbing up through the lowland broad-leaf trees, the Kauris, and then the mixed Beech forest, we arrived at Crosbies Clearing and its mix of regenerating forest, exotic species and a few swampy areas. Seeing how remote this area is today (3 - 4 hours tramping from anywhere) it is hard to understand why it was cleared and settled in the 1880's.
Reached the marker, followed the instructions and found the cache. Thanks.

At about 3PM I start my walk from Waimu to see the sunrise from the Pinnacles. It was about 36km but took me a lot of time. The track is little bit hard than I expected. In some places very steep and wet . I was lucky that there was not rain, because in that case it will be almost impossible to do it. Still in some parts very wet and had my shoes wet and covered with mud. I start when the sun was high but reach the Pinnacles hut at about 3AM. Long but very nice hike over the night with my torch. In some places I saw the glow worms, very nice like the stars on the sky.
This was the fifth cache found during the trip. Easy one. After the hard part this was easy walk mostly downhill, so ran in some places, to be see the sunset from Crosbies hut.

On an overnite to Crosbie's Hut with Ozzawazza, up the Te Puru Valley track & down the Waiomu track. Tumeke views on the top. TFTC
Interesting history in this area, farming must have been so hard up here, cool to see the old fence posts. Track a bit boggy in parts though someone has done some good clearing along the sides. TFTC
The group was a bit smaller today as some of the previous finders (and almost finders) went off in search of further spoils back where we'd started from the previous night but we still had an equally enjoyable time (mostly because we were heading downhill and towards a cold beer).
The clearing wasn't quite as clear as I'd expected it to be, but the cache was found nice and quickly. Great spot - TFTC

After a great walk up last night a group of us decided to come down this track and get picked up at the end. Glad we were heading down this track and not up or it would have taken me twice as long. Some great views looking back toward this hut.

After a well-deserved sleep and sunrise at the Crosbies Hut the group separated in the morning. Six of us selected the Waiomu track to collect some more geocaches and some more stream crossings. TFTC
The first find of the day with alpenmilch80, evilno9, 11hpg11, KiwiLeon and Lemski (signed as "Tinkerbell and the Daywalkers") on the way down from Crosbies Hut.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Holy smokes--5 days short of one full year since the last find! Cache is still intact and good to go, all ready for the next visitor. Man, it was some pretty hardscrabble living up here. Hats of to Crosbie et al. for giving it a go! Respect, dude! Cheers for the cache.
Ha this is hardly a clearing these days- if it wasn't for a marker you could be anywhere! Took Slam Bait left new AA Batteries SL
Found while hiking into Crosbies Hut (GC2D15Z). Only about an hour to go now, but fading light starting to be a concern as we walk on into the cloud at 7pm. It took us 4.25 hours to here from the ford on Waiomu Valley Rd. Totally wet from the waist down from pushing past damp foliage. The cache itself is well-covered . Thanks for the laugh.
The first time I cam here the clearing was still clear so views were great. Now it is only remnants of the original clearing and steadily overgrowing. TFTC

Last time here was about 30 years ago after doing Table Mountain and camping here and at Moss Creek Hut. Hope not to come back.

Out with GreenblAt, Tofska and -OGP-. River levels were low enough to cross (after the rain the day before).
Nice day for a walk in the Coromandel.
The team was reduced to two at this stage.

Easy walk from the last of your placement's, The plan was to bring a shiny new stainless cache up here, continue on to the new hut & place, just to make everybody re walk this good track! , well somewhat backfired!, Continued on to find new hut, Didn't find (for reference it is on the Memorial loop track approx 25min walk from this placement!!!) Actually walked within 100m of the new hut with out finding it, kept on trucking towards Thames, got to the 4hr to Tapu 3hrs to Thames sign , At 2-30pm decided best to continue on before we ran out of light! Straightforward walk into Thames & only two creeks for extra water the whole trip, Then we needed a ride back up to the top of the Tapu hill to collect the trusty van! jumbo & myself have got a return trim planned up from Booms camp Kauranga to replace that cache!, Thanks for the adventure Boges, tad longer than planned but great walk none the less! Cheers Muzy Man!!
The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
Out on a caching mission with Twigster, and this was to be the last cache stop for the day.
Actually ended up heading on to the Crosbies Settlement campsite (the place where the Swedes were reported to have last been seen), and stayed there for the night before heading down and out via the Kauranga Valley the next day.
Dropped off Unity GC, took nil.

This was a great walk and cache site boges. I have been meaning to come up here for a few years and finally got the chance with the company of the freezer mice. Had some interest in the sweeds going missing a few years back so stayed the night at crosbies clearing before heading out the next day. Nice easy walk
Arrived here quite wet, but really enjoyed the history lesson and the chance to look around. All very interesting. Came via the Ridge Track and back the same way. About 5 hrs for the round trip, but if it was fine then you'd stay a bit longer and enjoy the scenery. Really enjoy caches like this, and lovely trees as well. Slosh, slosh back down to the car and met two tourists from the UK, one with an artificial leg, striding up the track thinking they were on a Kauri loop. We put things straight, had a chat, and got on with getting back to the big city. TFTC
nice easy walk in from tapu rd -big track information sign just as you enter the bush-good hide and good clues-rain began just as i started and the clouds rolled in so no views-this is a reasonable easy walk with no great hill climbs-took TB-cheers jumboz
Early start this morning at 2:30 in Auckland together with funkymunkyzone and tofska for a FTF raid on the two new published caches in the Coromandel Forest Park.
After the first FTF at the crossing, we went down to the second candidate. Interesting path markers. Either this is supposed to be a new highway, or they ran out of DOC marker triangles.
Anyway, cache was found quickly and again, a blank logsheet greeted us.

Nice easy going along the tops once you finally get up there after the slog up the hill! A beautiful no wind day with great views out to the North and SE at various stages of the walk. Could cearly see the Auckland CBD buildings and Sky tower today. Quite pleased with the pace which felt slow but was half an hour quicker than the posted time on the DOC sign at the Waiomu car park (sign says 4 hours). Only real drama occured at the end of the walk when I couldn't resist a quick dip in one of the pools in the river but forgot that the cellphone was still in my pocket. Fingers crossed it works again once dried out.
Many thanks
Many thanks
Rallied the troops tofska and rumo & rala for a super early morning start for the 2 new caches in the Coromandel. We started on the track from the Tapu-Coroglen Rd at about 4:50am having left Auckland about 2:20am. It was tough going for me being the least fit of the group and we had to stop often for me to catch my breath. After finding the the other new cache at the track intersection we headed down for this one. Wow, some spectacular views along the way (I forgot my camera, but I know rumo & rala got some good shots). Made a fairly quick find of this one, although it was hidden nicely, and another blank logbook. Yay FTF with tofska and rumo & rala. Our 318th FTF . TFTC!!!
Enjoyed the walk in from Tapu-Coroglen road with FMZ and Rumo & Rala. Awesome views from the clearing of many prominent features. Table Mountain looks so close! Nice to walk on a soft bed of grass in places. T4TC - M@
