Not sure why this one is archived? We were still able to do 2/3rds of it??
The first question of this earthcache was easy but we were left unsure about the second. So, we headed off to the photo location. On arrival, squirrel reckoned he knew the answer to Q2 and we got a happy snap with the core holes as requested. TFTC Adrian Mc

[Teal] As we head from town to town as part of our "Purposeful Meander around Oz" the Rats and the Mini Rats found this cache. Dad did most of the hard work here and the detail of our find can be found in the Rats log. Sorry for the duplicate log but it takes nothing away from the find.
Some interesting fossils and we learnt about the drill holes too. Photo is in Dad'd log
Thanks for showing us this spot on our trip.

I've been up working at Leigh Creek for a few weeks and as we have all but finished everything we had today off. I decided to take my fieldy for a look around Brachina Gorge as he is a geology student (and I'm a geologist) and I knew he'd love it. I also made sure we found a few caches too (something else he greatly enjoyed).
We set off in the work ute, wearing hi-vi (we didn't have any casual clothes as we have been working all the time) and managed to find ten in total. This was the fourth one on our list
Having visited the Flinders a few times a year as Mr C's parent's used to own a caravan park in Hawker I never knew about this geological marvel. It was wonderful sharing this place with my muggle geologist student fieldy as he loved the geology of the area, We took many pictures of us with the holes as well as of the Golden Spike.
It appears that the signs have moved as there looks like a bit of work that has been going on at the campsite. It is easy enough to locate the first sign but the second sign at the "photo spot" is missing.
We greatly appreciate the time and effort that goes into putting an Earthcache together and getting it published, A well earned favourite point from us.

We only spent two days here in Flinders Ranges and liked it very much! We visited this one during a great day driving through Bunyeroo and Brachina gorges. I love EarthCaches, so stop here was a must! VERY interesting and informative Earthcache!
We hope information gathered will satisfy the owner.

The flies were out in droves at this location, and we finally resorted to wearing fly nets for the walk to the final location. As with almost everything we've encountered over the last couple of days, this spot was so interesting to visit. Mrs J spotted the core holes first, so I raised my fly net only just long enough to get the required photo. We grabbed the nearby trad cache as well for two finds for the price of one!
Thanks Adrian Mc.
Thanks Adrian Mc.
Great spot and info at the site. Glad we stopped in here! Found on our Adelaide to Murray Bridge via Uluru road trip for Oz Mega 2014. TFTC!!!
A very interesting location - wow - a whole evolutionary period based on discoveries made at this location. Awesome. + Favourite Point.
During our visit of Flinders ranges we went to this special place and found GZ. We will sent our answers to the CO. Thanks for bringing us here. Photo included in log.
Found during our stay at Koolamon camp and tours of the area. Great area and thanks for the Earthcache. Answers sent and photo included.

Logging with permission. I was heading back to Victoria from Alice Springs and had a week and a half to fill in before meeting up with ozibags for an assault on the TdF series and the Riverland events. I spent some of that time in and around the Flinders Ranges. I really enjoyed driving the geology trail and visiting the earthcaches along the way. With 'Don't Fall Off The Ladder', I parked near GZ and bumped into a couple walking the Heysen Trail, they showed me a dinosaur fossil they had found, I was a bit excited by this but it turned out to be a small plastic model. After a short discussion I began collecting the data required then it was off to see the 'Golden Spike', somewhat different to the 'Golden Spike' I had seen a fews earlier at Promontory Summit Utah. I had some difficulty gathering all the information at the site as I think one of the signs has been removed, but an extensive 'google' search soon had the answer required. Thanks Adrian Mc for this earthcache.

Our yearly trip to the Flinders for some 4WDing and caching.
Brachina Gorge is a pretty special place to start with but throw in some Earthcaches to give a look into the geological history of the place, makes it even more rewarding.
Thanks for the history lesson Adrian Mc!

Found with BluebeardOZ while spending a lovely long weekend in The Flinders. TFTC.
I chose the walking way up to the second stage which was a quite nice walk in the winter sun
Another great combination of a geology lesson, caching and taking in the Great Outdoors
Many thanks for the earth cache

Logged with permission from the owner. Found on our Eyre Escape trip with Skyllracing on the Willow Springs/Flinders leg of our journey. We were following the geological trail on the area today and saw some magnificent formations. We arrived at sign one and gathered the appropriate information. We decided to park in the dry creek bed and walk up to sign #2 although the boys wanted to take the "man trail" and attempt to drive up he creek. Arriving at GZ we searched for sign #2 without luck but we think it has been replaced with another type of sign.

#2093 Email has been sent and photos will be uploaded shortly. Found on our Eyre Escape tour with DazzPete. Driving the geological trail was a must do for us today as it has been about 4 years since we were here last & it was BC (before caching) for us. There were a few campers nearby at the starting point and after some information collection we tried to work out the best way to GZ. There was a track in the creek bed which we followed for a short while before the rocks got too large to hurdle so we set off on foot for the balance of the journey. We scoured the area for a sign which would divulge the necessary information to answer Q2 however nothing could be found & we suspect a replacement sign with differing information is located nearby in it's stead. So some googling ensued & we hope we came up with information close to the mark . Our thanks to Adrian Mc for the informative earthcache. Cheers [^]

I had just recently watched a doco on this event so this was a very relevant cache to do, that had a lot more meaning to me that it would have otherwise have done. Thanks for bringing us back here Adrian. E-mail sent and photos posted. Cheers .
Having read "Rock Star" I am very familiar with this area and it was a delight to come back and visit here.
A beautiful day for a stroll out to the spike.
Its amazing to have this piece of history in our state.

I couldn't find my camera to bring on this trip so you'll have to hit up one of the others in our travelling party for photos. Found heading south on our Sunny Side Up extension to the Oodnadatta Track. TFTC
Such a magic area and a quick stop of and photo with the owner, Mr and Mrs Setusujoku and o'cholio

Falling off ladders account's for roughly 8 percent of all injuries suffered around the home for males in my age group !! [:o]
So I was extra careful when wandering around the creek banks finding the information and pictures I needed to claim this down to Earth smiley
The stroll from the signboard to the Golden Spike is best done via the creek bed to absorb the scenery and geologic history of the area.
There were no ladders to walk under thankfully [:o)]
Down by the GSSP I took a seat by the holes in the rock and smiled for the camera
Second time visit to the golden spike for me.
I could see the other cache hiding nearby from my seating position and made sure to check up on it's health too.
Oh this all brings back memories of geocaches past and geology field trips back when I was caught up in the academia of the University of Adelaide many, many eons ago [:o]

Completed this earthcache as we drove around the Flinders Ranges today @ 12:30pm. Found this one particularly interesting, and enjoyed the walk along the creek bed as well. Emailed off the requested answers. The photo I have logged is at GZ and shows some core holes if you look closely. It does not show the core holes requested as I had not seen the photo in the description page until logging the cache.
Thanks Adrian Mc for an interesting earthcache - had the added bonus on the way back to the car when a couple of hawks sat in a tree fairly close to us as we walked past.

After spending the weekend up in the Flinders for a work leadership workshop, it was time to head home and of course grab some caches on the way.
Did another cache close by. Came down to do this one only to find I needed to be back next to the other one to finish it off. A couple of dead roos near the final at the moment. Email to follow. TFTC.

Bronze to sushilord. I previously visited this site in May 2009 while riding on the Mawson Trail to Bliman. Regardless of the geological signifiance of this site it is a beautiful area.
My muggle passenger turned over almost every rock in the creek, and checked out a lot of the rock faces, looking for fossils.
Thanks Adrian Mc.

Yay! Finally get to log this now that it's been found! As the co-conspirator for a few earthcaches planned with the owner back in July last year, the difficult part was remembering where I'd stored the photos. Some very interesing info at this intriguing spot - at the time the photo was taken I remember being almost paralysed from our 18km round journey to Mt Abrupt and back. Ahhh, those were the days! TFTEC Adrian (email sent).
I had missed some of it, so had a revisit. Good to see the country lookingf so green.
