#15494 - 1:29:00 PM; Day 14 of the great USA and Canada Road Trip with Sol de lune, and the first leg which has taken us from Minneapolis through to Washington DC, is nearly done with our arrival in DC last night. After visiting Arlington National Cemetery we move on to the National Mall, where I collected this virtual. Gathered the required information, which was sent to the CO to get the OK. Another impressive memorial on the Mall.Greetings from Australia and TFTC mtn-man Smile

A very solemn place for someone my age ... although Australia played only a support role compared to the US, I lost friends because of Vietnam, both during the war and in the years after. Thanks for bringing me here.

Thank you for bringing me here. I lost a few great friends in this war and this was a great way to honor their memory.

Found it at 1410 hrs on a beautiful day to explore the Mall.

A truly moving place, the boisterous school groups were subdued for a change....

Thanks for the fun!

Yes. Wink Yes. Wink Yes. Wink In the year 1999 we undertook a trip around the world and came also to this interesting place. Because it at that time still no Geocaching gave we find only fair to undertake now this trip virtually once again and to make up for logging the places which we at that time already visit have. Wink

Yes. Wink Yes. Wink Yes.

Finding a few virtuals while on a school field trip to DC. I hope we can come back to this one at night. It's really sobering to see all those names on that wall and realize how many thousands of more were affected when you count family members and friends of lost loved ones. Email sent and a picture posted. Thanks for bringing us to this spot so that we will remember them!

06-Nov-13
This was a very well done memorial for all those lives lost. Very sad to think that so many names were listed there. People were leaving flowers and stopping by the names of their family members. It was very sad and emotional. Thanks for bringing us to this memorial. Email has been sent to the owner.

We made our way to this one only by accident but certainly glad we did so. The answers required were sent by email to the CO and a photo was uploaded to our log. TFTVC!

I guess a lot people say this, but I have been looking forward to visiting this one since I first looked at caches in Washington.....and being from Australia, I didn't know when I would actually get to visit. Well, I have made it, and the visit was as I expected....very moving.

As an ex-serviceman, it was an experience to walk along the wall and read the names that I did. Just so many of them.......

Thanks for the highlighting the area, and another reason to visit. E-mail has been sent with my answers to the questions.....thanks mtn-man. A fav point for sure.....

This was cache number 12 on the day for Mrs SeeKPeeKRs and I. We were on a "Virtual Tour" of DC. We ended up picking up 25 caches today as well as walking just under twelve, yes 12, miles. We enjoyed taking the time to wonder the area and really reflect on what freedom costs. Thanks for keeping this one going. (email sent)

Found by Mary & David from Melbourne, Australia, at 1215. We were in town to begin a 'Historic East' tour this evening and spent the day walking around the western end of The Mall. This was our seventh stop along the way. We were impressed with the design of the wall, its size, and the numbers involved. We enjoyed seeing the other two parts of the Memorial too - the Three Servicemen Statue and the Vietnam Women's Memorial. We were also reminded of the Australian National Viet Nam Memorial in Canberra. Answers sent. Our thanks to mtn-man from Georgia.

A very sombre spot. A made an effort to come back later at night, and it was very different with the serenity. I also more greatly appreciated the symmetry involved in the monument. Cheers Gav [88]
