We replaced this one on purpose to make it part of discovery of geocaches. Not sure how long it will last, but hey there is now a new container and it is in action again. Hope it lasts.
Here for an event, like the previous loggers DNF despite very obvious hint and 5 pairs of eyes.
We have been wanting to camp and cache on Motutapu for a long time. Finally the lure of a couple of FTFs and the January daily ferry salings to the island had us pitching our tent in Home Bay this morning. Once our camp site was set up we headed up the track towards the Northern Junction and beyond.
We had a quick look for the cache this morning and a more thorough search on our way back this afternoon. We didn't want to leave an unfound cache on the island, but after reading the recent logs we are pretty sure this one has gone missing.

Out exploring this beautiful Island here in paradise as a group of caches. nice to add another wee smilie thanks.
spent a bit of time going from spot to spot as the hint depends on which side you approach the sign.. got there in the end. TFTC
Spent the day exploring the island, starting with the guided tour but it was about this point where we decided to head off in our own direction and leave the group. Spotted this cache while still with the group and waited until they moved on before we signed the log. TFTC.
Was out with a group of another Geocachers. Really enjoyed the day and awesome views. Thanks for bringing me to this lovely island.
Found a whole pile of rucksacks near this cache (well I think it was this one) They must have decided it was easier to walk without them and quite a safe place to leave them. This place is truly fascinating and the views from GZ are fantastic. Thanks for bringing us here.
A group of us purchased some grabone ferry tickets and today was the day we redeemed them. The views were stunning and the weather held up for most of the time.
As we walked up there was a whole pile of rucksacks and bags all left. Campers must have had the sense to leave them here whilst they walked around and collect them on the way home.
Thanks for the cache and for giving us a reason to come here.

Yes there were rucksacks at this location, we were going eeny meeny miney mo, yes I'll have that one... but no really, we behaved ourselves and just took the cache instead. Thanks Glyn but is there anywhere in Auckland you haven't placed a cache? But I guess you're steadily working on that..
With the new ferry company in town some cheap fares were offered and a group of us decided to come out today to explore the island. Another group left at GZ a bunch of backpacks and we started planning early lunch with whatever we would find in them TFTC
Lots of talk here about the contents of the packs we found. There must have been some nice food and drink in them! Thanks.
Found this cache with the group of us that grabbed some cheap ferry tickets from GrabOne. We had a great, long day on Motutapu Island, with nice warm weather, despite a few showers. The company was lovely, and although our feet and legs were sore by the end of day, everyone had a fabulous time.
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
Out for the day for a walk/explore around the island with a bunch of keen geocachers. A nice quick find here. TFTC!
Nice walk up the hill here, the sun was out, company was great, and the locals were going out of their way to make sure we didn't get ourselves lost as we were walking without guidance. 11 GPS devices weren't going to be a problem however and we soon hit GZ.
Noticed half a dozen or so packs laying around but we resisted the urge to do some shopping and focused on the cache instead. Quick find, names in and off to the next. TFTC

Taking advantage of discounted ferry tickets out to Motutapu, I joined forces with Yorkshirekiwi83, Ric1942 and supernanny for a day of hiking and caching around the island. The very strong winds today made for a challenging walk, but thankfully the rain stayed away until our last hour on the island. This was our most difficult find of the day, with 4 sets of eyes exploring the area for it, until Ric1942 eventually made the find! TFTC!
Somehow this was trickier than it should have been !!!! So many fencepost corners ! With 4 of us it became easier , and Ric found it !
On the way back from our long walk we came upon some other cachers here ! We didn't know they were cachers before , but it became obvious when we saw them scratching around !
I didn't catch their names , but so nice to meet you !

Out with Vistra for a day of caching, and met up with Ric1942 and Supernanny at the ferry. Knee strapped, check, waterproofs available, check, prepared for 85km/hr gusts of wind, not so much.
We started off walking at a pretty good pace, would be on schedule to get all 10 on the island, however the wind had other ideas and made it very difficult for us to get to that final one and back in time for the ferry.
Well it was as the hint suggested, but took a little longer to find than we expected.

Cache: found... but the right side was left in our case, it depends from which side of the fence you come.

Well, I guess a hint here is quite misleading as we found the box hidden deep in the grass quite a distance from it. Were not sure if it is owner intention, we left it where found.
Nice easy find after walking up the lovely track thru the valley - listening to all the saddlebacks warning of my approch.
Nice hide tftc
Staying on island after paddling over from St Heilers on fri arvo, went for big paddle today around island then walking this arvo to see the gun placements.

Nice quick find on a very windy day. Walked over from Waikalabubu Bay. Like previous finder, located near to clue site, replaced as found. TFTC
Although the cache was not at the expected location (where we would probably hide it) but we found it safely very close to this spot. So we signed and rehid as found. Thanks for the cache at this informative location.
While knocking off waypoints on a route with St Chads Scouts, hung back to search for this cache. After a couple of zaps from the electric fence, cache was found. Great historical area to be looking for caches. Cheers.
One of the "how does that happen" variety. We decided to walk the road while cooler and overcast. Another couple emerged from track same time we arrived at the junction. Up to that point hadn't seen anyone else. Hung about and they carried on. NINO TFTC
Made very tricky by three muggles at GZ, then 2 more, then another, where are they all coming from. Once again the power of numbers succeeded in getting the log signed.

Its good to have lots of fellow cachers about so we could cluster about the cache site, take photos and generally disguise our ulterior motive. Great views. TFTC
6411 Formed a scrum around GZ to hide our activities from nearby muggles. Nice views and glad there was a slight breeze. Found with sp8 and TT, TFTC.
A quick march up the hill with the sound of the Earlybirds jamming behind us at Home Bay for the Live at the Islands Concert TFTC
Off to Motutapu Island today for a bit of a stretch of the old legs and, of course, to visit a few caches.
Which way to go....straight ahead...turn right....turn left....hmmmm. I'll follow that gaggle of muggles.
Cheers for the cache.

Found originally as part of rebel98 team, now created own account, re-logging as rustynz
See rebel98 log below. We have an opportunity to stay overnight, so it means we can walk further and not have to worry about the ferry. A bike would make things so much easier on these roads. Love this place, thanks again for the hide.

Found with AC while dropping the kids of for a camp without parents.
Didnt have a pen with me, so I tatooed my name using a pocket knife, so I hope it is visible to the next finder.

It was a good day out.
TFTC
Out with GreenblAt, -OGP-, Gadget-tron, CreedyNZ, Matty&Jax and TWS.
We picked a nice day for a walk. It was pissing down most of the day and the wind got stronger every minute.
We were pretty soaked by the time we got back to the ferry.

Out with Greenblat, -OGP-, Gadget-tron, KiwiLeon, Matty&Jax and TWS on a traditional Kiwi summer's day!
A bit wetter, with the wind well picking up now.

difficulty in getting out the log, luckily Gadget-tron came to the rescue with a ...erm...gadget?, and got the sucker out for us all to sign!
By this stage we were soaked through but still warm as we were on the sheltered part of the Island. Quickly found the cache but as our fingers were soaked we struggled to extract the log sheet. I tried, KiwiLeon and "Jax" tried with no luck. I then remembered I packed in my Leather-man which had long-nose pliers. Quick extraction with the right Gadget . TFTC
The day was really starting to heat up and a thirst set in, but we braved the sun and scorching wind to get this cache. Noticed that most of the farm animals had cleverly placed themselves in the shade but most were panting heavily. T4TC
A nice time of the year to come over. The grass is still very green. Been out weeding which is very worth while if anyone wants to put something back into the island
Lovely spring day for a cruise and a walk. Anchored in Waikarapupu Bay and strolled up with sailing friends. TFTC.
Kayaked over from Glendowie to Home Bay, then walked up for this first cache on the island. Friendly cows on the other side of the fence. T4TC - M@
I live here on the island and work in the camp finally got the chance to get out and find some caches tftc
This one took me a bit longer, but after a while searching and reading the hint I found it. A very good spot! Again a nice and clean log TFTC
