Very interesting location. Great to wander around. Thank you for bringing me here.
A great history lesson, thanks for bringing us here, we wouldn't have found otherwise, tftc with jeffner5556
TFTC. Travelling west on a great adventure and came across this ruin and cache. Cache in good condition and dry. Spectacular spot to find one. I could say tanks again, but that would be a bad dad joke.
Find number 13654 at 9:37:15AM on Saturday the 24 August 2024We're on our way to WA Goes Big, travelling from Croydon (Melbourne, Victoria) with a caravan in tow and making a leasurely caching holiday across the Nullarbor and back. After some relaxing in Ceduna, today we're on the road again and heading for somewhere not too far west, but depends on what we stop to look at (made it to the Head Of The Bight free camp). What a magnificent place to put a geocache, thanks for the story and for bringing us here!**Thanks for placing this cache howie_sf**---*WOW, so much happening here in Victoria*Dont forget to log your will attend for Victorias first ever Block Party in March 2025, the [**The Sunbury Event**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).Theres also all those lists of amazing geocaches at [Geocaching Victorias List webpage]( https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists), go check them out.
Interesting reading in the description.. Macca was a forward thinking man.. this guy even improvised with a shovel for a trowel. We enjoyed looking around his place and admiring the well made tanks. Judging by their neatness he clearly didn't need a trowel. And to the wise words of Macca - 'you can't grow wheat with your hands in your pockets' we went off to find the cache. You can't sign logs with your hands in your pockets either... TFTC howie_sf.
As we drive our way back gradually towards the east again, we are stopping in Ceduna tonight and took short detour to this historic ruins today. Quite amazing infrastructure given its age. After putting the numbers together, we made our way to GZ, where after a short search we found the Hide and have added our name to the logbook.A favourite point added here. Thanks Domsky
#5358 Made the short trip out from Ceduna as this looked like an interesting site to visit. Was not disappointed, fascinating history. Cache took a little time to locate after doing the sums but all good here. This now becomes our most westerly find ever! TFTC howie_sf.
Spending the morning around Ceduna picking up some caches. A quick solve and find here while checking out some ruins TFTC
Found It!
An interesting bit of history I never knew about. Collected the numbers then wandered over to the final location and soon found the cache!

My 7th day of my trip heading to and around the Eyre Peninsular. After a night near Streaky Bay I headed up to Ceduna then finally made my way to Wave Rock for the night. This cache would be find number 17 of 26 for the day and find Number 151 in total for this trip away.
Had the Coords for the final so I thought but ended up in the wrong spot so went back to the start and done the working out for my self and came up the right location.

So what are we doing this week...
(Go west) Life is peaceful there.
(Go west) Lots of open air.
(Go west) To find caches new.
(Go west) This is what we'll do.
(Go west) Sun in winter time.
(Go west) We will do just fine.
(Go west) Where the skies are blue.
(Go west) This and more we'll do.
(Go west) Life is peaceful there.
(Go west) Lots of open air.
(Go west) To find caches too.
(Go west) This is what we'll do.
(Go west) together together we'll cache on our way
(Go west) together together you map me the way
(Go west) you cache places new
(Go west) this is what we'll do
(Go west) life is smiley there
(with thanks and apologies to the Village People and Pet Shop Boys - who must have been cat lovers!)
And ending up soon at Kyancutta

Country, Coffee, Cats, Champagne, Chocolate, and Caching...
Careful caching as always with Jack helping, wherever we go.
It's a dangerous world filled with rusty old mint tins and objects falling from trees
...... but a cache a day still keeps the boredom away
--------
Most of our caches are logged using the resources of gsak, garmin, and androids, occasionally AI too! (And a little rubber stamp )
----------
Make sure that Travel Bugs are the Only bugs you share and pass on (Covid cancels caching!)
Keep a safe distance - clean and cache the countryside
It's awesome of all those placing quality caches out and about around our country areas,
in sensible safe places and containers especially! - it keeps our game fun, and interesting
Of course we do appreciate if you actually did read all this extra addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere out there, or so we've been told! You win a virtual smiley for the effort and getting to the end of the log Maybe if I worked out where it is I could do it and go back to normal logs again ! If you find the challenge let me know and perhaps we can put an end to these long logs !!!
[:o)]
The end. For now...

A very interesting spot, some history that we knew nothing about. SO happy we paid this cache a visit. Loved his saying. TFTC
Picked up a cache.
Picked up a cache.
This is an amazing location, the history and the relics Logged the cache then took some pics and peered into a sunken tank. Glad I drove out here. ‘Tho I had to go thru SA quarantine to get back into Ceduna. He asked if I had driven over from Perth
Decided to drop off the blue wren TB. If you retrieve the TRACKABLE PLEASE LOG it correctly. So many go missing

Many thanks for this cache, as we never have come this way and would've missed out on seeing the ruins.

Well it’s 2021 and I have finally said good bye to a not so great 2020 and it was great to finally be able to have a reasonable holiday as I have not had a decent break since 2019.
Making my way towards South Australia and finally crossing the boarder and then being greeted by a couple of very friendly SA police offices which i had the official paper work to allow me to enter.
Making my way west along the Eyre Hwy which I have not travelled along since the late 70’s when I was on a holiday with my folks and this was the last holiday before I started full time work as a sparkie and finding a few caches as I go.
Geocaching when towing a van is not always easy and I have to be a bit selective on which ones I decide to try and find for safe parking purposes especially along busy highways.
After stopping at Wirrulla for the night and making use of their nice little community caravan park it was time to head to my next destination which is Penong.
I finally made it to my destination after stopping along the way to find a few caches and after setting up the van and spending the night it was time to go spend the day exploring the region.
After visiting Cactus Beach then Rocky Point and the sand hills I was just enjoying driving the back roads heading towards Ceduna.
This was a very interesting spot and I would only have found out about it due to geocaching as I would not have been on this road.
A lot of work went into this property and just the size of the tanks is amazing and effort to build them all.
I worked out what was needed and I soon had the cache in hand and added my name to the log.
Thanks howie_sf TFTC.

Today was our second day of driving to Perth for a family holiday and of course, this meant more caching along the way. It was a pleasant trip today with excellent weather (it was a lot cooler than yesterday) and a day with some unique and quality finds. As the day progressed, we finally got into W.A. and in no time at all we cleared the border check and we were on our way again (obviously doing a few of the caches on the boarder). The scenery along the way was some of the best we saw on the drive, stopping at multiple lookouts along the Great Australian Bite. As the day wore on and the sun sank lower and lower into the sky we found a place to pull over and camp for the evening after an enjoyable days travel and geocaching.

During our new years break, [@jesswrigley](http://coord.info/PRNW59T) and I headed to the Eyre Peninsula to travel around the various coastal towns. We started the trip with Jeep trouble, but then continued in our alternative vehicle without 4WD to stick to the main tourist roads where possible. We travelled south-west to Tumby Bay and Port Lincoln via Whyalla, Cowell, Cleve, Arno Bay; west across to Coffin Bay; and then north-west to Streaky Bay and Ceduna via Elliston, and Venus Bay. We then headed back east staying in Kimba via Poochera, Wudinna, Lock, and Darke Peak.
Today, [@jesswrigley](http://coord.info/PRNW59T) and I continued our adventure to Ceduna and Cactus Beach. We stopped off at Perlubie Beach, before exploring Ceduna's Thevenard and the local museum in the morning, and then travelled to Penong and Cactus Beach in the afternoon. These were quite the distance away, but we definitely enjoyed the number of windmills and pink lake there. We then returned back to Streaky Bay via Wirrulla to see the town's famous local secret.
This was such a cool place, and we really enjoyed learning about the old tanks, before then going through and exploring the building ruins opposite. Unfortunately during my jog around, I landed on something and twisted my ankle, but it didn't appear too serious, and I was back walking on it within a few hours. We crucnhed the numbers, although my initial computation was wrong, and there wasn't anything to be found. Luckily the corrected GZ wasn't far away, where we then made the find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks howie_sf for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.
Note that this geocache was logged with the *Team Warren* Davidwazza/jesswrigley stamp.

Just wandering around the Eyre Penisula because we can't go West. Well what an interesting place. We had to a abandon our search as we were attack by millions of mosquitoes. They even chased us back to the car. Then invaded the car. Bugger. Thanks anyway.
Ingenious!! Loved learning about the history of the area
Enjoying a 2 week break from home and discovering some of Eyre Peninsula.

Day 235 - Well being on my own it was time to collect a daily cache and this time it was off for a short drive and collected this easy multi at the historic site.
Thanks howie_sf for bring me here.
Thanks howie_sf for bring me here.
Thankful that the rain had abated we headed out to grab surrounding caches. Collected the info and headed to gz where we found a water logged container and sodden log. Back to the car for replacement log book and wipes to clean up the container. All good again!
nice bit of history and a easy multi to work out. A short stroll and a cache was found. took some pics.
Day 3
Ceduna to Maralinga
This trip saw me travel to Maralinga to do the tour of the nuclear test site then up the Googs track, past Lake Gairdner on to Mount Ive Station, then in to the Gawler Rangers and finally hiking up Mount Remarkable before heading home.

8054 Located by baby&Mrs gopher at 1325. As we came along the highway this multi popped up on the phone. Decided to detour here and have a look at the history. Numbers found and went for a walk through the long grass. The container was in breakdown mode so we replaced it with a cliplock Sistema in the same location. SL Tnx Howie_sf a favourite from us.
With the dry winter we have had this year I hear the Adelaide desal plant may be called upon again. Great final location. TFTC and thanks for the history on the cache page.
Found in the early hours of the morning after staying in Ceduna for the night and before heading down Googs Track with e.gregory1 for a few days. Thanks for the cache howie_sf!
Day 3 of the Perth to Adelaide trip where we started in Boarder Village and ended in Elliston.
Today had us focused on finding every alternate cache on the main road as well as the ones possible off the beaten track as we would soon be returning the same way and need to keep some spare for rest points. Between Ceduna and Boarder Village
The day started with a 4am Perth time start or a 5.30am local time, by the time we were in the car it was 6am and we were off again.
The first 2 caches of the day were aborted as the sun was yet to rise and were all based around a view and or visual aspects. So we loaded up the Marcy string of caches 120km away.
During this drive we would of done most of it through thick fog the visibility was poor and I was still amazed on that 120km of road we encountered 1 truck only, I guess most who drive this do so during daylight hours, meanwhile however Barnzy12 got a little extra beauty sleep.
We arrived at the first cache for the day with just enough light to find the it, we then headed to the “nearby” earth cache just 20km north of the high way the terrain rating was a 3 however didn’t think too much of it. I sat at a consistent 30/40kmh and soon arrived at GZ half hour later, the car was possibly not liking it however it at least kept B12 awake.
Anyway we made more tracks to Ceduna and had reception to at least let the better half know that we were safe.
A trip down the coast after a few hours then had us at the caravan park where we unpacked the car and walked to the pub for dinner. After dinner we found the last cache only 140mt from our cabin! Great planning on my behalf
howie_sf I found your cache Macca's Tanks thanks for placing this hide for myself and others to find.
Dunsborough is where it’s all at this year check it out at GC7GXQA October 13th + 14th. Hope to see you all there at WA Goes Big 2018.

Found as part of a roadtrip with some members of the geocaching community to attend the TAR Centenary at Ooldea where 100 years ago the East - West Railway met and was joined.
It was then onto Maralinga for a camp and rest day for the Parrots while the rest of the crew went on a tour.
The Parrots then headed out across the Nullabor to visit the old Telegraph station at Eucla with a camp at the old abanoned homestead along the way.
Finally I am not sure why I missed it last time but I got my name in the logbook this time round.

What an amazing life this man and farmer led [^]. As they say, only the good die young (but I suppose they didn't have very good treatment back in 1906 for diabetes) .
Again, Mr Shonky was right into the co-ords and the cache found after a short search . TNLNSL.
There's some very deep tanks here .
Thanks for bringing us here Howie_sf.

A very interesting multi. The coords were calculated then off for the short walk. That first tank is surprisingly deep - and another one is unfenced so watch your step.
Found on the great Transpacific Rail Centenary (1917-2017) trip incorporating a visit to Maralinga Nuclear site. Blast of a trip.[^]

Found nibs and disk. Wouldn't want to fall in there it would be very tricky to get out. Thanks howie_sf
Found by Mary & David at 1606. Wonderful cache notes for a nice little multi. Facts, figures and local history are what we enjoy. Rather surprised that the National Trust hasn't fenced off the area to prevent vandalism. William McKenzie was certainly an enterprising pioneer in so many ways. A FP for bringing us here. Our thanks to howie_sf.
A nice simple little multi and a fun walk. Some of these are deep. Wouldn't want to fall in.

Oh my Gosh it took a lot of time trying to figure out about the coordinates (need to go back to school) lol
Good little spot. Thanks for the history and the cache. I noticed the stats at the bottom of the cache description and I'm actually GB. I'm here on an extended holiday and created my Geocaching account since being in Aus. TFTC
This one beat me last time I was here, so another crack this time and the cache was in hand. TFTC.
I needed to grab a multi in SA for a challenge back in Victoria. I was driving close to this one and it looked interesting. And I was right, it was interesting. Learnt something and enjoyed the location. TFTC.
A good spot for a cache but no matter how hard we tried we could not find it. Did the sums twice to be sure.
Stopped on the way back to Ceduna from the amazing Davenport Creek for the geoson to do a bit of trumpet practice of all things
Nice little multi guarded by a very big beetle with a VERY big snakeskin nearby. It was a cool day and fortunately we didn't see the owner of the skin (a mulga snake maybe?).
Thanks for the cache and the story. Cache contents are dry, though the container is a bit deteriorated

Must trust GPSr leading me away from ruins. Bit tricky turning over things in snake season but nothing showed its ugly head. Eventually found close to ruins. Took Pathtag. TFTC cheers

Day sixty six of the WA road trip with BettyBoo3747.
On the road again, but homeward bound - Eucla to Ceduna, lost another three quarter of an hour!
Very few caches left to do on this road.
We had driven across from Eucla this morning, but BB wanted to come out to this cache after reading the description.
Dropped our stuff at the caravan park and jumped back into the car.
Interesting site, and very big tanks! It is a pity more of the houses weren't still as intact.
Very interesting history.
Thanks, Robmc.

# 8339. Robmc and I are still moving East - today it's Eucla to Ceduna, stopping for only a few caches along the way. More storms across the Nullarbor this morning - the second time this trip.
Even though we had been driving a long distance today we then turned around and drove back out to this cache as I had read the notes and wanted to visit this very interesting piece of history. It was well worth our visit as the size of these wells was something to behold. They are BIG! I would have loved to have seen this area when the ruins weren't quite as ruined as they are now. At least the old police station still gives an indication of how it used to be. It certainly must have been a thriving and industrious community. Thanks for bringing the area to our attention. Left one of my pathtags here.
Thanks howie_sf

Thanks was a warm day so kept one eye on gps and one on the ground for snakes. Good site
What an interesting piece of history! We were seriously impressed by those tanks! Today was quite hot and windy - the cars thermometer was saying 46˚C at this point. At least the car is air-conditioned. Quickly plugged in the numbers and the cache was quickly found. Thanks howie_sf!
Day eight of my holidays, travelling from Port Augusta to Ceduna, picking a few caches to break my journey, then doing a few beyond there. I read through the history of this amazing man and his accomplishments before looking for the cache. Quite remarkable what he did.
My thanks to howie_sf for the cache.
My thanks to howie_sf for the cache.
A nice simple multi at an interesting place.
William McKenzie was certainly a forward thinking man.
Thanks.

I headed out of Ceduna late morning to visit a place of denial [:o]
I don't think that Macca was into 'denial'.
This bloke was a go-getter !!
The ruins were fascinating and the story of the farm even more so [^]
And after a bit of cogitation at the start coords, I headed off along the garden path to GZ
But was this GZ ?
I was standing in the middle of a paddock [:o]
A bit of poking around revealed the cache in an unlikely place [^]
I left a little plastic baggie for the logbook to live in.
It should stay a bit drier now
TFTC and visit to an amazing place !! [^]

Cache was moist inside. Might need to be put inside a plastic bag. Found on our way back to WA. Didn't know about these ruins until looking for the cache. Thanks.
Found at 1520 while seeing the sights around Ceduna before heading west.
Thanks howie sf.
Thanks howie sf.
We loved this cache. You can just see Macca, hands on hips saying "you can't grow wheat with your hands in your pocket" in his (presumably) broad Scottish accent. A favorites point from us.
Heading to Murray Bridge for the SA Mega but also being on the start of our tour around Australia we decided to see what Ceduna had to offer. We had a leisurely start to our day and then set off to do some sightseeing that the Caravan Park lady had pointed out. (seems most had geocaches conveniently co-located)
We had joined up with The Drovers after they sprang us on the hunt at the first waypoint of GC2VB9J "In Memory of the Crew of A16-144"
We really enjoyed wandering around here. We thank you for using Geocaching to share this piece of history. Also you are to be congratulated for keeping the cache away from the ruins so that hopefully they will continue to be admired by others.
A fave from us.
