13231 Located by baby&Mrs gopher at 1120, We have decided to head down the Birdsville track. All in good condition. Made the find on our way to the south. SL Tnx Funky G.O.
We are on a Bucket List Trek, from Busselton, in the South West corner of Australia, up to Cape York, Australia's most Northern land point.
We are travelling through several iconic tracks, through the Gawler Ranges, the Oodnadatta Track, the Birdsville Track, the Bloomfield Track and the PDR Track to Cape York.
As we meander across this awesome country, we stopped here to enjoy the scenery, check out the history and wonder what life was like here in the Outback all those years ago.
Thanks to the CO's for adding to our journey as we head to Cape York.

An early morning walk before hitting the Birdsville Track for our 3rd day heading south with fellow cachers Seizer. TFTC
Luckily we didn’t get stranded here today. Although if we had it could have meant another week off work. TFTC
We made it up the Birdsville Track with minimal trouble and then I broke the van in the Birdsville Caravan Park. D’oh!
After a few false starts I got it fixed.
The trip up the Track was pretty straightforward and the chance to stop for caches along the way helped add to the trip.
Overnight at Mungaranie Phil’s and then Janet and I continued north. The track was good apart from the corrugations.
With a 3 tonne caravan we were not brave enough to drive to this one.
So Brad went for a walk. With the flies. Followed the geo- tracks.
This cache was a quick find in the first place checked. All good.

After finding "The Unsinkable" cache we headed across the road down onto the now dry bed of the Cooper Creek and drove to within about 100m of the cache as the sand was firm up to this point.
This cache was placed back in July 2010 and I was wondering why it survived the floods that came down from Queensland beginning in November of the same year then but after a bit of sleuthing realised that those floods were mainly in the SE of the state with little effect in the channel district out here in the west. If the Cooper Creek floods again then this cache will be kaput!

Well this cache title came true.
170 ks north of Maree and the back axle of the trailer diintegated leaving us on the side of the road for 6 hrs until the recovery vehicle showed up.
Ended up coming off the track in the dark that was not fun.
Ended up in Copley for the night.

The Parrot tribe is off to the dead centre of Australia to attend the Big Red Bash.
This is a rock concert on the edge of the Simpson desert.
SA_Parrothead, Young Einstein's and H7 are in a convoy of 2 cars heading to Birdsville and back.
It is being billed as the most remote rock concert in the world and the last act will be Midnight Oil rocking it out as the moon rises.
Midnight Oil - The Dead Heart has a line - We carry in our hearts the true country.
We look forward to being a part of that.
Able to drive in.
This is a lovely spot.
A couple of trips back you woulkd have seen the water from here.

We've been wanting to drive the Strzelecki Track for a long time so a window of opportunity came up and we were out the gate!! We travelled up the Birdsville Track and down from Innamincka. Had a great time caching and admiring many views of the outback. The only casualty was the windscreen which had a close encounter with a rock on day 3. Got told in Birdsville that it wasn't bad enough to freight another up. Luckily it made it all the way home with the help of duct tape. We found some great views and historical places thanks to geocaching.

Found in the company of Freddo, e.gregory1, Team Waldron, occasional cacher out of retirement SteadyOn and muggle friend Tony during an awesome trip to the Simpson Desert, staying at Coober Pedy, then camping out at Dalhousie Springs, three nights in the Simpson Desert, Birdsville, Clayton Bore and Aroona Valley. Thanks for the cache Funky G.O.!
Found as part of an extended trip with FeatherWaite, Freddo, Team Waldron and a couple of non-caching friends that saw us travel from Adelaide to Coober Pedy, through the Painted Desert to Oodnadatta, then on to Dalhousie and Mount Dare, before crossing the Simpson Desert to Birdsville and then back down to Adelaide via Marree and the Flinders Ranges.
We had pretty good weather, with moderately warm days and cool nights, but plenty of flies!
It was great to be able to find some remote caches in some really interesting and scenic locations.
Thanks Funky G.O. for the cache.

Thankfully not a drop in the Cooper today, so this one was an easy walk down from the parking area. Only on returning did I notice I'd walked past a huge bull lounging under a tree, but he was too hot to chase me TFTC.
A 500m walk across from the barge and we made the find. Wouldn’t gave wanted to tow the caravan over!!!

Found with BB&N, GF07 and H068. Passing through on the way to the Birdsville Races to celebrate GF07's 50th birthday. Good times. TFTC.
What are you talking about [?]. Not a drop of water here today - sure you weren't looking at a mirage [:o)][?].
Seriously though, things can change very quickly out here .

This was the 35th find of a total of 49 caches found by Boxer and 5 Vietnam veterans club member mates, on a 10 day trip up to Marree, then onto Mt Dare, across the Simpson desert to Birdsville, then back down to Marree, then home to Kadina. A very interesting and at times very challenging trip. Stopping to find caches helped break up the trip and get out and stretch the legs. Thanks for the cache hide.
We are heading for the Simpson Desert. Stopped at the campsite nearby.
Good clean loos, just what is required when travelling the outback.

Parked up on the roadside as we had the caravan in tow and walked in to this one or got carried in by the flies almost. Gps led me direct to this one and GZ was obvious from a long way out. Cache found quickly and signed while the flies attacked because both hands were being used..
Thanks to Funky G.O. for this cache

Nice to stop about 10.30 with a a strong wind blowing, although not so strong to keep the flies at bay. We found the cache well protected and contents in good condition. TNLNSL TFTC
Mr Morris headed off the the Birdville Races from Bendigo along with Steve, a part time cacher and 2 muggles in another vehicle.
They travelled via Port Augusta, Coober Pedy and Mt Dare and then returned home via Hawker, Broken Hill and Mildura.
We think a dingo or something may have decided the cache needed to be somewhere else as it was some way away from the posted coords out in the open. Popped it back where it belonged.

A good reason to break a long drive from Birdsville to Farina on a warm day. TNLNSL. TFTC.
We were stranded in a sense. Had just found the cache when we realized there was no glass in the rear window. Out with the garbage bags and plastic tape. Thanks for the cache Funky GO
Found at 12:20pm, a bit off the beaten track but a nice lunch spot! TNSL Left: Disney explorer. Drove off to Maree very pleased to have made a clean sweep of the Coopers Caches. [^] Thanks for the challenge.
Wanted to do the cache at the ferry but the road is now closed. This was as close as I could get. TFTC
Found if after crossing the Simpson Desert and heading back... Thanks and Hi from Finland .

Wasn't too sure about putting our hands in there on this nice hot day, but Vic from Team Bounty had it out before we could get the walking stick out of the car! No swaps, the day was getting late and we still had a few kms to travel. Great to see all the water. Took TB Coasguard.
A super quick drive by on this one.
The mozzies were threateningto carry off the car let alone a person so it was a quick grab of the cache then back into the car to sign it before jumping back out to replace it.

Drove to 10m from GZ. There was another party camped halfway to the road but the Pajero is an effective screen for the cache stuff. Great location thanks for the fun. Water is everywhere.
I assumed this cache was at the cooper ferry and only turned the GPS on once we'd arrived at the ferry.
Unfortunately, GZ is (if I remember correctly) about 12 km from the ferry and I couldn't be bothered back tracking.
Seeing the Cooper in flood and going over on the ferry was a great experience though!

I wasn't really stranded here but with the Cooper flowing, you wouldn't actually mind if you were. The diversion to the Cooper Ferry was active but you can squeeze past the turn right signs - as you do It's OK, as the road is safe until it basically hits the water. It is a sight to see. (pics).
The cache spot was perfect so I had some lunch there, a cold beer, and a rest under the tree. I thought about camping here but I continued on back down, hung a left, and then went up to the Ferry.
There was a chance of a small helicopter ride there. The bloke said he would take me for a ride ($85). So why not. I had the coords for this cache in the GPS so he said he'd fly over the spot. Cool.
So after the normal tour around (boy, there is a massive amount of water visible from 1000feet, average cruise height), he headed for the cache and swooped down and back on the tree. Of course I took a few shots!
So I'd visited GZ a few times today. Once at 0 metres elevation (yep, logged then) and then later on at 290 metres and 250 metres. Fun fun fun! Caching by helicopter - a first for Astro!
And yes, there were clear skies. See the pics. Our thanx once again to Funky G.O. Never realized it was a silver podium at the time. [^][^][^][^][^][^]

The Random Road Trip crew stopped to check out the 'boat' that was used to float people, supplies etc across a flooded Cooper Creek back in the 1920's and 30's, so I headed down to find the cache. Found and all was intact, a FTF no less. TFTC
This one wont be under water. Unless there was another "20 year flood" recently.
Actually locals are saying they can nearly drive across the Cooper on the Birdsville track now. The water has dropped a long way there and there isn't a true channel where it crosses the road so it would only be half a metre deep or less. The cache should be high and dry, and over 100 metres from any water.

Was there a few days ago, but did not take the 20km detour along the track cause we too thought it would be under water. Oh well - next trip.
