Logs
”Out caching with Whimppeys and finishing up the RT 66 series we started a year or so ago. Had a blast doing this power trail and enjoyed all the history of this area.”
”We had a great time finishing the Route 66 Trail with Barb N Gene. It was Mr. Whimppey’s Birthday weekend.”
Thanks so much for the historical series! The cafe at Roy's is closed due to water problems, although there is a roach coach out front. I remember full-service gas! Saving Amboy Crater for another day as the heat made today a very short caching day. TFTCs!
My holiday brought me here to this area. Together with a very good friend we made the area unsafe here. Thanks to his service here, we could do all of this in the Ruhr and we had no time pressure. Of course I wanted to take as many caches as possible but the sizing should not be neglected. I also apologize for it only a recurring log is but I rather spend time on the computer than druaßen.
Thanks for laying and bring them also it has given me a lot of fun.

Holiday power cache run! We came here exactly a year ago to start the series, today we finished! Thanks to all that placed and maintain this series. All quick grabs even when we got punchy near the end!
I had wanted to finish this Series for sometime. After a discussion with some fellow cachers we formed a group of three ; Cache O' Plenty, Larry The Pool Guy, and Pars18. Cache O' Plenty put together a plan that would complete the Route 66 Series for both Larry the pool guy and Pars18, but he would still have to return another day in the future to finish it. We ended up getting all the numbered caches plus some extra ones that were added or had originally been there . This was the most caches that all of us logged for one day. Once we had gotten used to the routine of stamping the logs we averaged over 50 finds an hour. We started at 6:30am and finished around 5:30pm. The weather was perfect for this type of run between 50-70 degrees. I had packed sandwiches and chips for lunch. We brought 24 bottles of water to stay hydrated and Cache O' Plenty had almost enough coffee to get half the run done. We were kept busy just trying to stay with the routine through out the day, but did have time to take in some of the sites. The trains just continued to go by all day and traffic was minimal until later in the day when it got heavier. Thanks to all the CO's especially Team Stevecat for placing this fun but exhausting series. We really had a great time thanks to Larry (Larry The Pool Guy) and Steve (Cache O' Plenty) for joining our team.
Pars18, Larry the pool guy and I headed out to the Route 66 series today for a full day of power trail caching. Since pars18 and Larry the pool guy had already completed the first half, we started at #381 and headed east. That allowed both of them to complete the series. I, on the other hand, will have to return to complete the first half. We also augmented our run to include all of the Non-Route 66 caches along the way. Made for quite a long day and a new one-day record for me. As we proceeded, we repaired any that needed some TLC and replaced some broken ones. Now I need to resupply my stash of containers!
Had a great day and perfect weather. Thanks to Team Stevecat and the other COs for all their work in setting up this run. Got a great history lesson along the way.
Also was amused to note that the number of trains we saw greatly outnumberd the vehicles on the road. Trans = 7, vehicles = 3 for the first three hours.
This was just one of the many caches found by us today. TFTC-SL

The CIA, a team of cachers from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada, are having a great time on Route 66. Many thanks to Team Stevecat!
Found with the CIA team on the last day of our caching adventure. If anyone ever told me I'd get up at 3:00 in the morning to go caching, I would have said they were crazy, but that is exactly what I did this morning. It was worth it. This was my first time in California and caching Route 66 made it a trip I will never forget. Thanks to all for placing these caches.
This was our 3rd trip back to do this series and finally completed it. Thanks for all the effort put into setting up and maintaining the run. We had fun and are happy we completed it.
started the power trail today,2of the caches weren't there the pile of rocks were,so all i had was log and plastic bag, so used them. thanks for putting all these out think my wife and i got 419 caches today.
On holidays from Australia we had planned on doing a spot of caching whilst in and around Barstow and Las Vegas. One of our goals was to complete the Route 66 series. Early start, late finish was in order and after a long 15+ hours, we completed the series and some extra's along the way. Wow what an experience that was! FurfacesLL No 2 sprained her ankle on the Yermo series, and FurfacesLL No 1 was down with a cold, So we were very pleased with ourselves. A days' rest then off to tackle the ET Highway! Thanks to the cache owners for all the work in maintaining these caches.
Found in the company of Earthbound Chief, aka Dad on our 'Boys Own Adventure' after I spent the summer working in Michigan and before going home to Australia. A drive along the Route 66 was a must! TFTC
Getting our caching kicks on Route 66 with micaparamedic, Ozibgs and EB Contax
Thanks for the caching fun
Thanks for the caching fun
Collected Ozibags from LAX today and drove straight to Barstow, motel arranged and then this contingent from Australia hit Route 66 for an afternoon of hot caching, coming from winter to temperatures in the low 100s saps your energy quickly. Plenty of water consumed, and an enjoyable experience caching on Route 66 was had. Thanks Team Stevecat for the series.
On a Route 66 power trail bash with micaparamedic and Earthbound Chief. Greetings from Australia. TFTC
Thanks for all the hard work and time it took to place all these caches. Ultrahide and I went on a 10 day epic camping adventure. We ended up with 1,744 caches including 32 virtuals, 6 WIGs and 5 events after 3,080 miles. We had a great time finding these caches and exploring the history of Route 66. Ultrahide did most of the work jumping out in the 100 degree weather. I appreciate the pre trip info and love the coins. Thanks again.
Found with emzernask while getting our kicks on. Stamped the log as Crazy Canucks.

After many months waiting we are finally here, we where fortunately enough to meet the cache owners at an event, but even more fortunate to have mild weather.
We completed the series plus a few side caches in about two days and loved it

By now we have settled into our rythem of making the finds and are moving right along. Britpitts and I are making all the finds and my wife, the supper muggle, is doing all the driving.
Thanks Team Stevecat for the effort in setting up this huge series in spectacular scenery. Had a great couple of days.
This was a fun day for us even with all the traffic and the high temperatures. Thanks!
I came from Australia to tackle this trail but until you do, you do not appreciate the time and effort that goes into putting this together. Thanks Team Stevecat for your work.
I teamed up with a couple of other out of towners - tumble3weed2 and rcbpasco from Washington State.
Between the three of us we came up with a system that worked even if we weren't the quickest around.
On Day 1, we found 500 of the 800 over 11 hours stopping at dark plus a few non Route 66 caches.
On Day 2, we completed the series albeit in the dark with flashlights plus more non Route 66 caches.
Enthusiasm on Day 2 wasnt the same as day 1 with the bodies working a little slower with 8 hours to complete the the series.
We had a good time, seeing bikes and bikers, military jets 'buzzing the tower' as well as refuelling above us. Also a lot of old Fords heading to Needles. The army were also making a racket over the range with their tanks. What we didnt see was anyone else doing the trail - maybe we started too late in the day.
And what about trains - I think it was around 40 over the two days but we probably lost count.
We also found 6 extra containers at some of the spots - all within a metre of the actual caches. These will be heading to Australia to start a mini Route 66 trail - number 802 to 807.
Thanks again for the experience.
Now for the job of logging all the finds .....
