One road took us to a keep out Gun Range and the other took us to what felt a lot like private property. Not sure how to approach this one. Probably dont do this one at night, like we tried to.
I had come up to Ararat to stay at Green Hill Lake for the weekend with one of my kids and his family.I called in to the lake on Australia Day weekend to have a look and it was packed and it was a totally different story this weekend with plenty of space to spread out.So after a fun weekend with the Grandkids it was time to pack up and head home but I had enough time to hopefully turn a few green dots into smileys. After trying to get into here I read a couple of the previous logs and found the best way in was to park in Burn Street and walk in.The gate was not locked so I went for a walk.Lots of dogs making a noise but I ignored them and I soon arrived at GZ.A nice spot that is now not easy to get to and it even has a picnic table.Located the container which is a small Sistema and if anyone has a spare lid that would be good as it has a crack in it.Coords were a bit out but I got there in the end. Thanks Bmak TFTC.
We approached this one from Burn St, confirming on the sign that it's still a reserve and not private property. The gate was locked but there was a gap in the fence. An easy walk on the road to GZ, though some young horses were grazing in the area. Cache container is cracked and was laying in the open. Might need some TLC with a small sistema and dry logbook.
A quick find after a short walk from the gates. Neighbouring dogs don’t like visitors. Logbook wet. tftc
Found it, on the ground ?near GZ though my GPS (only using a phone) wasn’t super happy. Log very wet and not able to be signed. Might need some checking and replacing.
Found this cache last Saturday when we went to Ararat for my birthday. So many pretty flowers are out! Nice easy find and no snakes! Thanks. Topped up trades for you.
*The SueHut Birthday Long Weekend Adventure #10*
Day 3 of our long weekend is in Ararat and surrounds.
We had a false start or two approaching this one. A perfectly good road on the map turned out to be a private driveway. Nonetheless, success.
Thanks heaps, Bmak!

FOUND after finally finding a way in. Enter via gate on Burn Road.

Found it after driving aimlessly down roads unable to find a proper way in.

After not knowing how to get in here, we finally made our way here for an easy find
Travelled out to Avoca to join in the celebration events and explore an area I’ve not been to before.
A nice little stroll through the reserve on our way out of Ararat.
Thanks Bmak for the cache.

Another camping weekend getaway, this time to explore Avoca and surrounds.
Nice stroll through this reserve. An easy find at gz.
Thanks for bringing us here today by placing this cache, Bmak

Sadly cannot get here today, they got gates all around and blocked it off.. I'm not from the area so don't want to enter incase it's someone's house instead.
TFTC. We are camped at Green Hill Lake for a few days as an escape from the pre Christmas madness. While here we are using geocaching to explore the area.
Parked the geo-vehicle and jumped the fence from Irvine Street. Cache well out but the hide was obvious.

28 meters out, but an obvious hide.
Riddell entered from over the broken fence in Irvine street. What a bizarre park.
We have come along previously at night at a gate on Burns Street. Better luck in daylight today.

Cool spot here, tho tricky to access. Cache found about 10m away. Nice views! Thanks
The second and last day in Ararat with BettyBoo3747 and The Morris.
We toured around Ararat collecting caches not all of us had found.
This cache is no longer a drive by as the gates have been close to the park to discourage drug deals there (according to a local)
You can still drive on a local road and jump the fence though.
Thanks, Robmc.

#17259. Sunday in Ararat. The Morris, Robmc and I are out on the caching trail once more, hoovering up a few before lunch-time.
The original access road has now been closed off. We found another dirt road that led to a new house. We parked and jumped the fence and wandered over to GZ for a quick find of the well hidden cache. I picked up the geocoin that I see was left just last weekend by my caching friends from Wangaratta.
Thanks Bmak

Our final cache on our visit to Ararat for a long weekend. Found the container with a broken lid a little way from where our pointing machine indicated. Fortunately we had a spare lid the correct size so replaced it and SL at 9.48am. Left: International Geocaching geocoin. A very pleasant walk to Flint Hill this morning with lots of birds flitting in the trees and singing their songs. #6913 TFTC Bmak - plenty more caches for us to find, so we will be back.
Next stop on me tour of the towne today,
was here at Flint Hill
A wander up the hill from the gate,
soon revealed the forgotten picinic area at the top,
and a cache nearby
TFTC and visit to a spot that tourists don't know about

As previously mentioned the cache is a far way off GZ but the hint helps narrow the search area.

Grabbed on our way home after attending the St Arnaud Mega. Took us a while and I suspect a little “cache creep” as we located the container 16m NE of GZ. Would be worth a check by the CO when nearby. TFTC Bmak.
While visiting the area we headed out for a lovely drive and found ourselves here, such a lovely spot to enjoy a walk and fresh air, the youngest team member made the find, log signed and replaced as found, TFTC and the fun
Find No. 2641. Found at 10.00am
A days trip caching in the car, over to Ararat with Geodog Penny on board and FUF009 came as well.
This was our first find on the way into Ararat. There was a muggle walking his two dogs in the area but he took no notice of us as we were doing what he was doing - Just walking the dog - seeing how we had Penny with us.
Located the hide, signed the log and off we went. On the way out we came across him again so we guessed this area was fairly large and great for walking your dog.

Hi there Bmak.
We have spent a few days freedom camping in the Grampians, so we called in to Ararat to fill the caravan water tanks and to catch up on some laundry. The weather hasn't been conducive to geocaching today but the sun finally came out this afternoon - so we went for a stroll. .. . . We thoroughly enjoyed our walk around this beautiful piece of bushland & found 2 caches & DNF'd 0 in our cache raid today. Thanks for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places while we meander our way around Australia.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found the cache around 12m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container is UV damaged and very brittle. It really needs some owner TLC. The log book is in good shape though.
**Took:** Nothing
**Left:** Smiley Badge
**Dropped Trackable:** "Caching under the Moon Geocoin".
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Don't be afraid to open the gate. The cache takes a bit of finding as the coords are not quite right. The Sistema container was looking a little the worse for wear so we wrapped it in plastic. TFTC!
We are not sure if the cache is suffering cache creep or if the original hide has vanished but by a process of elimination and with three of us looking the cache was soon found hiding behind a rock. SL TFTC
After establishing entry was ok we ventured into this scenic site. After a quick run around likely spots I spied a likely hiding hole. By our GPS this is about 17 meters from Coords. Back in Victoria visiting with Muff1. So off on the road for some geocaching. We stopped here on our way to Beaufort for an event. Cache was in good condition. TFTC TNLN.
Initially we wondered if it was someone’s driveway, but there were no signs indicating that it was private property so we ventured through the gate & down the track to gz. Geohubby grew up in Ararat and was pointing out the old mine shafts we were passing. Once at the picnic area we could see the good view of town as per description. Our gps had us about 16m away from the cache but geokid8 found the hide no worries. TFTC xo
Found it - coords weren't too bad I didn't think. with a good geo eye for detail it was a pretty easy find in a great bush setting. Thanks for the nice Arvo stroll
Heading over to the Mega in Melbourne and spent the afternoon caching around Ararat TFTC
We found it but it’s says 8 meters away when I’m standing right next the the stump
Collecting some elusive mystical creatures with wozzle68 we headed to Ararat for the day to cache the town and the outlying areas as far as Great Western. The sun was shining and the wind was bitter cold but it didn't rain and that was all we could ask for, especially as it is the middle of winter.
We had previously tried this cache but had no idea how to access it but not today as wozzle68 had already been here before. So with wozzle doing the gate honours we made our way into the reserve and towards GZ. Some views were spotted here as we made our way to the cache.
Looked in all the obvious spots until we found it 12m away from our GZ, maybe the GPS was having a bad day.
Thanks Bmak for bringing us up here we enjoyed the views overlooking Ararat.

After a slow start, not being able to find the right road in (locked dead end and closed gates) it was a quick find when at the spot. Searching with the geokids. TFTC
Easy find. I could see the container from about 40 metres away so I fixed the issue, but didn’t move it
Found during an early morning solo ride whilst the rest of the geo-crew slept in. Was well hidden when I left it. Many thanks Bmak
After some backtracking finding the entrance to the park, it was a nice walk and hide. Gps a little off but found it just the same. #224 paulyj24
A quick pick up when in the area with Chooknchunk.
Thank you for placing and maintaining the cache.
Thank you for placing and maintaining the cache.
Walked in from the road and used compass heading to arrive at GZ, oh there was an easier way.
Self disclosure, I am a banjo player. Earl Scruggs (RIP) had a nice blugrass instrumental called Flint Hill Special. Search YouTube and enjoy.

We are T-less today, found by I while J sat in the nearby car with S sleeping soundly in the back.
J had been here last week, I didn't even know this place existed, a different view of the town from here. Tftc!

In town for a medical appointment, and a bit of caching afterwards.
Parked outside on the road, and followed the signposted track in to Flint Hill.
Cache found quickly in good condition.
What a lovely view of the town. We had no idea that this little bush reserve existed.
So thank you Bmak for the cache and for bringing us here.
