Up in this area today and decided to complete this multi. Its very interesting as is the church with the bullet holes - a bit like the one at Kororareka (Russell). Amazing history here and I enjoyed the description. Unfortunately my maths wasn't at its best today, but the CO helped me out... Thanks for adopting this Kaygeedee, TFTC a favourite from me

24-Jun-23
My 52 card pick up mission was curtailed due to miserable rain, so I pushed on to Waiuku via Huntly and random roads beyond.

Now I never intended to go looking for this multi but i took a look at the description and found everything I needed hidden in plain sight.

After correcting my maths to take me to a more viable GZ I soon had the cache in hand.

Thanks KayGeeDee

This one was a DNF for me last time after earthworks had been done as GZ. All good today - just lots of snails around. Thanks for cache!

Had a bit of time between site visits so solved and collected this on the way. Very misty so no views today. TFTC

We love caches that bring us to interesting places and teach us new things and this multi did both.
We arrived just before sunrise and the area was very quiet.
We didn't know this church was here and had never heard about the Pukekohe East Tuff Ring or the history of the area so were very interested to learn about it while gathering the required information.
The sheep in the neighbouring paddock watched us with interest.
Once we had the coordinates we were pleased to see they agreed with the checksum and we made the short walk to GZ where we made a quick find.
The cemetery must have a great team of caretakers as it is so well maintained.
Thanks for this great multi.

I loved learning about the history and what actually took place. This has to be one of my favorites I have done.
To find the location may take some thinking, is definitely still where the location is meant to be.

Thanks for a great find

Day 2 on my little weekend Pukekohe escapade - granted I didn't have much time today before the drive home. I managed to get through this fairly straight forward multi only to be left stumped at the end. There seems to have been a bit of road works in the area and I couldn't find this one so one PAF later and KGD assures me it's definitely there - he'd only just replaced it the other day!! So I started digging, eventually unearthing the original hide. Naturally I now have to locate his replacement.... perhaps pocket it for a future placement Smile

Cheers KGD for keeping this one going, TFTC Smile

Had been here before but did not have much time then and we could not get the numbers to work out. This time I started by doing the same thing, explored an option and then had another look around to find I had been looking at the wrong information - helps when you find the correct stuff. This time things worked out much more likely and even though the checksum was still off a little I new where I needed to be and a short walk took my right to the cache. I now realise I signed the wrong date on this one - was out by a week, but they say time flies when you are having fun. All good here at the moment but lots of work going on around GZ so hopefully it remains intact. TFTC.

As we are going to level 2 at midnight which allows for geocaching to start up again I am enabling all my caches. It is still level 2 so we still need to be careful out there. Please take precaution when handling the containers and think of your fellow cachers. Use sanitizers where possible. So take care and lets go caching again.

04-Apr-20
I have decided to disable all my caches because of the covid-19 level 4 lockdown.
I have noticed that there is still a number of cachers out there that are finding caches that are not within their "Local Area". I am sure that whilst they maybe taken all reasonable steps to ensure their safety they are not adhering to the rules of "remaining in your home" Therefore I am putting all my caches on Hold until the government lift the restrictions.
No logs will be accepted during this period and apologize for any inconvenience.

Having a bit of a clean up in the area. Got the bits needed to solve the final which was near by.

17-Nov-19
I had the good fortune to be here with two of the previous finders but even so this was a rather hilarious test of the sieve like qualities of their memories as they had forgotten where the final was. So for the second time for them and the first time for me we calculated the coordinates and had a wee wander around the immaculately kept church and grounds. It's great to see such an important location well kept and remembered.

Once the coordinates were calculated we were pleased to see the checksums work out just so first time and from there made a quick walk across the cache and quickly had our hands on the container. All good here and pleased to get this nice multi. Thanks for the cache.

After spending the day with Supernanny and Jag50 we decided to collect the final of this multi. I enjoy reading about the history of places

Was keen to come here again after a recent dnf...
So after doing the nearby Crayola trail with the other ladies this was a good chance to return!
I told them about it and was pleased they hadn't done it either and were happy to do it also.
Gruesome history.....
church was open so had a look around inside.

13-Jul-19
After spending the day in Karaka with Merlot58 and Supernanny, we had time for one more cache on our way home, so detoured off our route to find this one which Supernanny was keen to have some assistance with this multi after a previous DNF. Interesting reading about the history here whilst finding this cache. TFTM

This is a nice and easy Multi with an interesting history. Coords spot on and so it was an easy find. Tftc.

I did this Multi today because it contains the detective clue for the new Mystery at the Museum challenge. I was very much looking forward to the new challenge, but I must say, I am very disappointed!
I installed the new geocaching app on my smartphone just to discover, that from now on only traditional caches up to a D/T Rating of 2 are visible for basic members. No more mystery caches, earth caches or multi caches, as it used to be. What a surprise. Sad I wish I hadn't installed the new app!!!

At least I can still see these kinds of caches from my home computer. So going out in the field will have to be very well prepared from now on... I am not amused.

Checked on cache. Still there. I have moved it slightly but coords remain same. Hint updated. No sign of any wasps

Visiting from Canada, and this cache was close to our B&B accommodation. Although our success rate on multi caches is dismal, this one looked promising. However, it was not to be. Our checksum was correct, but the location of the logbook remains a mystery. While we put in some effort for the find, the wasp nest at GZ was a deterrent. The church and history as well as the view were worth a visit though. Thank you.

Grrr. I was looking for a large cache and now that I re-read the hint I see that I should have been looking for something a lot smaller.

Find number 3893. I called a couple of weeks ago with ABCDF4 and Eyespyben. We had not read the cache page fully so we wandered around the grounds of the church looking for the necessary information. We managed to get some numbers but not all. We were sitting at the gate looking lost when Tom turned up on his bicycle. He had come to open the church. We had a talk about what we were doing and he gave us some information on the history of the church. Some of which was relevant to the numbers we were seeking. He then invited us into the church where we were able to find the numbers and do the calculations. After getting things we headed to GZ. Unfortunately after an extensive search we came up empty handed.
I came back on Saturday and did another search and came up with the same. On returning home I checked with CO. He confirmed we had the correct answers but it appears that GZ has changed . He gave permission for a replacement cache to be placed.
So we went back today to do that. A replacement cache has been placed in the obvious place. It is a camo pill bottle.
Thank you for the history lesson and showing me such a lovely old church. It may not have a congregation but it is looked after by some volunteers and is well worth the visit. Right down to the musket shot holes.

Thanks for bringing us up here, I live in Pukekohe but never been here before. Great views and interesting to learn more of the history of the area.
We found the cache but the lid was missing so it was soaking wet. TFTC.

Sorry for the delay in logging this cache. We got caught up moving house and have only just got around to catching up on our logs.
Today was a dot day on the calendar, but with kids Saturday morning sports followed by an early afternoon wedding, it was looking tricky to find a cache. We tried between the sports and the wedding but a last minute change in childcare plans made a find then impossible. The wedding was in Tuakau, but we had found all of the local caches. Luckily we were sitting with another cacher at the wedding so we could get away with a quick search, and found we could solve this mainly online and try for the final on the way home. Not really the right place to be in wedding finery and heels, but needs must. After quite a long search the cache was finally found in about the first place we looked - the third or fourth time we looked there.

13-Nov-16
Needing a cache for a calendar dot day, and had to drive nearby here to drop the second son off, thought this looked like the cache. As place was open to the public felt a little conspicuous but got some of the info required. Returned after picking up the son later in the evening got the remainder of the info, and off to find the cache, my GPS had me slightly out but used the geo instinct to get hands on the cache. TFTC

Had to make an extra trip to Pukekohe today, so decided to swing past this one for a look... Quite amazing seeing actual muskit holes in the walls of the church... makes it very real...
Had the area all to myself which made doing the maths easier.

Good hide...all is well.

In the area getting another cache for a series and we needed a large for our Provisional License Size endorsement. Went to GZ and could see that some plaques had been ripped off the front gate so we thought our search was over when we spotted the stone. Wrote down the numbers and heard a massive roll of thunder in the distance so we decided to enjoy from the car until we realised we were at the highest point and that probably wasn't a good idea. Punched in the coordinates and a quick drive to GZ found very quickly and signed. TFTC Smile

I last visited here about 4 years ago but was stumped by the lack of leaflets, so very nice to see the multi has been reworked. A neat little church and some interesting history.

Many thanks.

Lovely little church, with a fascinating history.
It is a beautiful day today and the views are great.
I was surprised to uncover a nest containing about 15 eggs in a place under some cover. Then I saw a chicken fossicking about across the road.
Thanks for bringing me here.

Found it with Team FIN [janahola, kapeka, laalaa & temyllyl]

We had fun with caching few weeks here in New Zealand. Lots of geocaches and many sort of them too. We saw awesome places, weather was pretty good all the time and people were friendly and polite. Caches were pretty similar like in our home country. Of course there were some exeptions. Nice and really scenary country!

Greetings from Finland

Second day on our geo-roadtrip in New Zealand, and caching our way towards south. Logged using our group nickname FIN with janahola, laalaa and kapeka.

This day we started to head towards south and to Christchurch Mega event. Found this nice multi before heading to do some powertrail..

On a geoholiday road tripping to Christchurch MEGA and around beautiful New Zealand. Our four people group (temyllyl, laalaa, kapeka and myself) from Finland used group tag FIN to log the caches.

We got the calculations right but it tooks some time to find a well camoued cache. TFTC!

An later than usual start for today's caching mission, but as the wife was coming along and not the usual crew a pre-dawn start was never going to be on the cards. The days plan was a hike in the Hunua Ranges plus a few other finds in the area which suit a challenge I'm working on. We managed to located everything we hunted for, and got some stunning weather to boot, so a great day all round.

Last few finds of the day, well last find of the day. We had called ahead to get some well deserved Bugerfuel from Pukekohe, so I only had a few minutes to gather the information before we needed to continue on to get dinner before it got cold. Hadn't fully read the description, so started hunting for the other answers around the church, but as I couldn't find anything that made sense I spent a few minutes reading the full instructions, and taking a pic of the required plaque and heading off to grab dinner. Worked out the co-ords while munching on my burger, and made the small detour to sign the log before heading home. Took much longer to find than it should of, especially for its size, so must be time to head home. Thanks for the history lesson and the fun multi.

We are off on an aventure weekend this will be one of many to come Tftc

01-May-15
We left home on our way to "Rave in the Cave", and took a detour to Pukekohe for some caching to fill in time for the midnight start.

After a search around the building and the grave stones, the large boulder was found. Now in darkness (the sun just setting - we got caught in heavy traffic and crawled along the motorway!) our small group gathered together to do the calculations (love checksums) and soon after we had some co-ordinates. Whilst at GZ after a short search the cache was found (thanks Gorby).

Thanks for the hide and the history. Big Grin

I was invited to join rustynz and Rebel98 on an adventure for the weekend. Yea hah! Heading down to 'Rave in the Cave' event cache at Karangahake Gorge (due to start at midnight), rusty had in her mind to visit this cache first, it had been weighing upon her mind for ages apparently. So being the gentlemen we are, me and Rebel, we obliged her. Not that I was complaining! This multi was a first for me here in Pukekohe. We arrived in the dark, and on go the head torches. You wouldn't think it might take several minutes to find the huge rock with the info, but it did! we were so excited to glean the info and proceed to the final. Across the road we skedaddled and after a few minutes I spotted the huge container and we all happily signed the log. Now, onto several more caches before midnight. I'm making this a fav due to the company I had and the fun! Cheers stretch.kerr for the cache! Cool

I love puzzle caches but seemed to be jinxed when it comes to multis & tend to avoid them. This year, I've set myself a personal challenge of finding 100 multis, coz surely I must get better with practice??, so had this one and several others nearby in my sights for today. Arrived at GZ & collected the extra bits of required info but my answers din't match the checksum. Aaah. Re-checked my answers, spotted my mistake and got a likely final location. And guess what, yes, there was the cache - yeeha - another multi successfully completed!! Cache all good. Thanks for showing me this spot, and thanks for the checksum - much appreciated! TFTC

A Dot Day... The mission for today: find mid-level D Rated caches. Gap (of Fap and Gap) and I are heading to South Auckland. Everything in between is fair game...

We were passing by... I enjoy historical caches and it was great to learn about the church, its community and links to the Land Wars. Gap and I worked the clues and came up with a different answer. However, we were able to make an adjustment and got a coordinate projection for a reasonable looking ground zone. We arrived and spotted the large cache completely out in the open. We were just dealing to the log when two dog-walkers appeared from nowhere... That was awkward. We had no choice but to continue without being too dramatic. Returned the cache by tucking it right in under the ground cover plantings. TFTC.

I really enjoyed the gorgeous view from GZ. There were some flyers in the box by the church, but one of the numbers is different from your transcription. I used your numbers and the check sum came out right, so that's what I used to find the cache. XNSL. TFTC.

Some interesting history and what a big cache !

Solved most of it last night as I was heading this direction today and needed a multi to complete the August souvenirs.
Interesting history, thx for sharing.
Easy find at GZ, cache all good.

I needed to find a multicache today for a challenge I have been working on and I am also very interested in NZ military history so this was the perfect cache for Mrs Zorgon and I to stop at.
Like the little sign in the foyer pointing to the "originial bullet hole".
Thanks for the cache and the excellent history notes on the cache page.

Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.

We worked out the final co-ordinates for this multi while passing through the area a couple of months ago, but we couldn't grab the cache due to workman right at GZ!! So we called in again today, on our way South, and made a quick find of the cache while the coast was clear. Thanks for showing us this interesting spot and nice outlook over the crater! TFTC!

Back out this way to clean up a few more out this way. Didn't have much of an issue with this one, and interesting to learn a bit of history about the area. Nice spot, TFTC

Back out this way to take care of some unfinished business from a few weeks previous and started our day with this one. No problems with the research and the calculations and the find was made quite quickly as you'd hope for something this big. Cool cache and an enjoyable history lesson - TFTC

Nice working to school term dates - get an extra day for caching at easter. Looking for a large cache to finish of a Class for GeoLicense.
Nearest - hike in the Waitaks (Still have vivid memories of last hike in Waitaks - give that one a miss).
Next - 4WD up Murewai beach (Have the 4WD vehicle but no one to come with me - give that one a miss).
Next - long drive to other end of motorway, and several multi caches that will do for another License class (That will do - next one's further - Hamiton). Waited for after the morning rush and headed down.
Did most of the maths before hand, so was a quick find. Thanks for the history. TFTC

After collecting a whole lot of caches up in the Northern part of Auckland it was nice to stop at this spot and enjoy a multi. I need this one for the Geocache license so was nice to knock it off. Love the large cache at the final.

Nice litttle Multi with an interesting peice of history, great to see a decent sized cache container, TFTM

07-Jun-12
Cache description updated. Previously, info was needed from an often unavailable flyer at the church, resulting in several DNF's. That info is now in the cache description, but a site visit is still required. Don't worry - it's only a stones throw from the church to the final.

27-May-12
Could not complete as the note info sheets at the church have all been taken so cant complete the clues?

13-Mar-12
Enjoyed the wandered around this interesting church and grave yard. Unfortunatly the information required was not obtainable at the location. With some help and a return vistit soon found the cache. Thanks

Second attempt, read clue more carefully and believed the GPS no problem to find.

04-Feb-12
No leaflet found, rather disappointed.

Quickly found the info required and calculated the co-ords for the final. A short walk and the very big cache was located and the log signed. Thanks for the little bit of history, the little bit of geology and TFTC.

Quickly made the calculations and made a beeline for the final - except the GPS pointed out into a field. Hmmmm, a recheck of the numbers proved that a mistake had been made. Off a second time and this time the GPS pointed me straight to the hide. I was suprised to find such a large container. Took 4 TB's. TFTC.

03-Jul-11
I got an email for the CO yesterday, asking if he could get a certain TB from me. I replied that it was no problem as I was planning to drop it off in this cache all along. This morning I made good on that promise.

Some interesting history here. Got the required info and performed the stipulated calculations. I forgot the bit about the info sheet, but I soon spied it. Followed the GPS, spotted a likely GZ and made a quick find. Well, it should be a quick find with a cache that large! Exchanged multiple TBs. Cheers for this tidbit of history and a good sized cache!

Interesting crater, now farmed. Leaflet is out in all weather, and container is collecting the rain today. Not the best for the upcoming winter rain! My addition was one out today.... but logic stepped in and made the adjustment.... checked the sums again and discovered the mistake at the same time as spying the obvious cachers' trail..... thanks for inviting us to stop by here.

03-Mar-11
Of course! Electronic dice! So obvious now! We were convinced it was something that would open up to reveal something mysterious so I took it apart to see what was inside. A well made device, I'm jealous, always fancied being able to do something like that but you can't seem to get electronic sets anymore.

01-Mar-11
Interesting bit of history.Container wasn't had to find being the size it is.Better than a micro for me.

Cheers stretch.kerr

26-Feb-11
What a fantastic cache! Me and my kids loved this one, a testing clue but we got the maths right first time! I was a bit unsure when we were following the co-ords though....and found a MASSIVE container! Can anyone tell me about the black box with flashing LED's?? We've taken it to try and work out what it is, I'll return it if I wasn't supposed to take it!

It's an electronic dice, press the button and wait for the lights to stop flashing

26-Feb-11
Correct - Electronic Dice. Made it a while back for a bit of electronics practice. Comes from a kitset - can't remember where I got it from. Runs off a 9V battery. Remove the rubber feet to reveal the screws to access the internals.

Found it this time, the leaflet was this time in way better condition and the information easily gleaned. I must admit to doing a bit of research on-line after my last DNF and finding most of the information.

Nice little tour. Now to celebrate my 2000 th cache with this one. Out on the spyder today.

Called in here to drop off a TB that needs a large container. Cache still hidden o.k and in good condition.

I struggled to get the checksum right and was all for leaving in a sulk, until I realized that it was my addition skills, not the information, that was at fault!! Nice hide, love the size of the cache container. Thanks.

Had a go at this one, plaque on bolder was easy to read, but not so much for the leaflet at the church door, had several goes, but just could not get the checksum right, so left it for now until the leaflet get replaced

Really interesting information about the area. Told Mrs GT that this was her cache to solve as she enjoys this type. The pamphlet was rather tatty but you could still make out all the required info. Quickly got the required checksum and headed for the final. Really great to see a good size container. Dropped off 2 GC's for good measure.

Keeping up our tradition of second to find this tuff old fella had a look at the church puzzle. We have been in Pukekohe for over 40 years and never visited here....well worth a look. Stretch the leaflet at the church is soaking wet and in several pieces. I tried to get it out of its plastic to dry it but alas its so wet it would only come out as shreds so I left it as I found it. Sad

Great puzzle and even better cache than the normal ones. I did cover it a bit better as it was so easy to see. Must have been all the elephants???????
Looking forward to your next one.....SmileSmile
