Spring Victorian Incursion 2024.Day Thirteen: inner MelbourneWeather: a nice morning and then I got hailed on.The brunt of the afternoon storm had passed through when I decided to give this cache a shot. The numbers are easy but like others, it took a few laps to actually get my hands on the cache. Trust your instincts, it WAS in the first place I looked, just not straight away. Bloody nanos! Thanks for this hide digitalformula.

This was a find not too far from home. A non SideTracked railway cache no less!I gathered the details and began my walk. At GZ I completely missed the object I was seeking on my first look. Fortunately the local station was relatively quiet so I could take a second look and that is when I spotted it.A big thanks goes to opted-out user for taking the time to add The Jewell In Our Crown to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Are you ready for Victorias next big event?Join us for Victorias first ever *Block Party* to celebrate 25 years of geocaching.**When:** March 22 - 23, 2025**Where:** Hume Global Learning Centre, SunburyLog your will attend at [**GCAP417: The Sunbury Event** ](https://coord.info/GCAP417) Visit our [**Block Party website** ](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/the-sunbury-event) for more details on the exciting lineup of events and activities as they are released!

I found this cache on my Mega Walk #30 - a 30,000 step walk through Coburg, Broadmeadows and Brunswick. The maths worked, then it took a few checks of similar spots before picking it up. In out quest to get on or off at all train stations in Melbourne to find a geocache, this one ticks off #57. Thanks from D B-A

01-May-24
Tiz13 and I jumped off the train at Jewel Station for a quick find of this multi. That didn't occur, looking here, looking there, compass needle jumping around no luck. A PAF maintained the no luck situation, the PAF couldn't remember. One last look before returning to the train for the trip back to Southern Cross and a lap around DFO, came up with the goods. Thanks digitalformula for placing this Multi-cache, enhancing the game board and adding to our enjoyment.

01-May-24
Heading home after the nearby CITo with micaparamedic we jumped of to grab one more cache.. what we thought would be a quick multi..there was Lots of head scratching and a PAF eventually micaparamedic found the cache in a place I thought we had both already searched.

06-Mar-24
I wanted in particular to find a multi today and this was in my sights after attending the CITO at Coburg Lake. I havent visited this station before and love that theyve kept and even restored the old brick station. I collected the numbers and crunched them, but the checker didnt agree. I checked them again and came up with the same result. A call to a PAF and putting the clues together I found the tiny cache and was glad to leave my mark on the log. On checking my numbers again at home the numbers did place the final just where I found it.

13-Feb-24
Had the coordinates for GZ soon enough however spent way too long hunting as for some reason I was determined to only look on one side of the final location, rookie stuff! Glad to get this one done before the eventual level crossing removal in years to come.Log book only has one space left after signing, may need replacing. Thanks for the cache

On Monday I am required in Melbourne for work, and I figure, that's an ideal opportunity to fly down early and spend the weekend geocaching and enjoying the suburbs. Friday night flight delays and a well-past-midnight arrival means my start today was nowhere near as early as I'd hoped, but I'm still keen to complete as much of my plan as possible. The day had begun exploring Herring Island, then poking around Toorak. Now though I'm heading north via a couple of trains and a few thousand more steps into Darebin and Merri-bek territory. After another hour on the move, it was time to pause for a feed in Fairfield, then back on the train to Westgarth and I continued walking west from there. Not long after leaving Westgarth, and pausing for a geocache I was done walking and grabbed a hire electric bicycle. This was better than a good idea. Not only was it super fun and much, much easier than walking, but it added one more mode of transport to my list for the last 24 hours; car, plane, bus, tram, train, boat, walking and now bicycle. And as an added bonus, the Capital City trail would take me to exactly here.Parking on the corner of Royal and Park, my plan was to walk to Jewell, then catch another train to Coburg for my last find of the day. But by the time I walked to here, I needed another sit down. I was north of 15,000 steps for the day and losing the love (and daylight). I noticed this multicache literally across the road and decided this would be a good substitute, and my last find for the day, lest I run out of feet and daylight.Alright, onto the geocache. Nothing tricky about working out the numbers at all. And again I took a seat to crunch them. With a good final location entered, and the hint decrypted, I wandered over. did stand about as a trainload of passengers left the area, and then spent too long feeling about for the geocache. Turns out, it's a nano tucked in there. At 20:05 I signed the logbook and replaced as found.Definitely, today is done. Just a little more walking to grab another bike to hire and ride into my accommodation in the city, a bite to eat and thoroughly enjoy taking my shoes off. Thanks for this geocache, digitalformula Smile

Easy multi! Got my clothes a bit dirty after finding the cache because GZ was wet from the rain this morning. I'm heading home straight after this cache so it's ok. TFTC and Hello 2024!

While my wife was getting a birthday tattoo, I went hunting.Very clear instructions, spot on coordinates and an excellent hint meant a quick find in between trains. This one will be around a very long time.Lovely day despite the cold start!TFTC-Voting is now open for the 2022 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards. I was at the Fitzroy Gardens for the pre Rutherglen event yesterday and I had a look at a few of caches that were on my map in the area that I had not done yet.
I noticed a few Virtual’s and an Ad Lab around the ‘G’ that looked interesting
Since there was footy on I decided to head back in early this morning to go for a walk.
Now that is all done and dusted I’m making my way back home finding a few more along the way.
I’m sure I have been here before or maybe it is one of the other stations along the Upfield line.
I travel on the line just slightly further West.
Nice and quiet around here this morning and after gathering the required information a quick sit down on a near by seat and I soon had a set of coords and the checker was happy with my work.
A quick search of GZ and I had the cache in hand.
The joys of early Sunday caching.

Thanks digitalformula TFTC.

Find #5256. Found @ 21:46 with The Good Lady Wife.

We're in the area to see a show (at the Growler) and decided to public transport it. On the trip TGLW asked about caches in the area, so not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, I checked the map.

The last time I was in the area I was collecting Parkville mega challenge caches, but we didn't get to this one.

I took a picture of the information at WP1 just as some transit police we walking past. Curiosity got the best of one of them and he said "I guess you really like this station?". We had a short conversation about geocaching, which thankfully he'd heard of, before we went a different way after the crossing.

While waiting for the show to start I worked out the numbers and planned for a visit after the show was done and some food consumed. Once back in the area is made my way to GZ and managed to locate the hide pretty quickly with great coordinates.

Getting back to station, the two transit police were here again, but either they didn't recognise us or decided not to engage.

Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.
Thanks for the cache digitalformula.

Spotted this interesting challenge a day or two ago. As a semi-regular passenger transiting to and from the Jewell In Our Crown, this was a must. Worked out GZ and tramped to it in light rain as it was getting dark at about 1715 this afternoon. Found the cleverly placed cache with assistance of the clue, thanks digitalformula. It seems it has migrated slightly so after signing the cache log, it was returned to it's more prescribed location.
This was a very enjoyable find, thankyou!
Cheers

Quickly solved the multi and located the cache. No muggles on the platform, which made it much easier.

15-Mar-22
Got the ok from the checker and looked around the area as the hint suggested. No dice.

A simple and enjoyable multi. I just didn't read the instructions properly so it took a little while to find. But again Jeniquoi aided me!

Out with xambo4u, we had a lovely day caching doing multi and trads.
A great little multi with a well hidden cache. Thanks digitalformula.

After my conference in the City finished, I selected this area to collect a few geocaches.

Got off train about 2 pm today. Second visit to this area and a lot less people this time but still too many people for a long consistant search. But after dodging and out waiting a few people, eventually found when I started looking for a smaller hide than expected.

Thanks for the cache Digital Formula

Found with my nephews, had a great time, thanks

What an adventure. Found it, and had a great time.

The robot clicked disapprovingly, gurgled briefly inside its cubical interior and extruded a pony glass of brownish liquid. "Sir, you will undoubtedly end up in a drunkard's grave, dead of hepatic cirrhosis," it informed me virtuously as it returned my ID card. I glared as I pushed the glass across the table.

He heard the loud impact before he ever saw the result. It had been so loud that it had actually made him jump back in his seat. As soon as he recovered from the surprise, he saw the crack in the windshield. It seemed to be an analogy of the current condition of his life.

She asked the question even though she didn't really want to hear the answer. It was a no-win situation since she already knew. If he told the truth, she'd get confirmation of her worst fears. If he lied, she'd know that he wasn't who she thought he was which would be almost as bad. Yet she asked the question anyway and waited for his answer.

Spending time at national parks can be an exciting adventure, but this wasn't the type of excitement she was hoping to experience. As she contemplated the situation she found herself in, she knew she'd gotten herself in a little more than she bargained for. It wasn't often that she found herself in a tree staring down at a pack of wolves that were looking to make her their next meal.

I was hanging out for a Zaatar and a cheese pie, so decided to cache around Brunswick today. I've been meaning to stop by here a few times, but never got around to it. Easy multi maths, and I soon had coordinates. Luckily while I was doing my maths two trains went by, one from each direction. This meant that there was no one waiting and all passengers had left, giving me the all clear. Retrieved, signed, and replaced without any passer byes, very unusual for this area. Thanks!

14-Nov-20
Lovely little cache to start off with!

14-Nov-20
Since this one's been found twice since I wrote that last note, I'll leave the check for now - the cache is still clearly where it is supposed to be. Thanks for the finds since then! Smile

08-Nov-20
We found it!!!
Good fun to look for, eyes will not be enough!!

17-Oct-20
I can check the status of this one once lockdown ends. I love Geocaching but it's not worth a $5000 fine, apologies.

10-Oct-20
I was there about 10 days ago - coordinates were correct. Could not find. Given its been a few months since the last find, can someone confirm it hasn't disappeared?

17-Aug-20
All good at GZ. Did I read that these old signals care to be refurbished with the level Crossing replacement works?

07-Jun-20
Used the numbers and found the teeny weeny cache when all was quiet. Good enough day to be out on the trusty treadly exploring this section of the trail. Cleaning up the drafts and apologise for the late log.

03-Jun-20
Got the coordinates right but can't find the cache! My first time geocaching so probably on me lol

The math was so complicated that I needed an engineer to help me! Just kidding. A nice little puzzle that took no more than 10 mins to solve and have in hand. Posting a photo for proof as I left my pen in the cache at gilpin park. TFTC

Solved this cache a long time ago and have had the final co-ords for ages. Today I made a point of going and getting it. Being the middle of the day and still holidays there were few people around. I made the find much more difficult than need be by not checking the hint while at the location. I looked around for quite some time without luck. Eventually I did a PAF which gave me a clue to the size of container. After this I did a recheck of places I had looked and found a much smaller cache than I initially expected. Thanks digitalformula

I found the information but GZ looked like being right where a woman was volunteering her time to single handedly moving mulch around. I felt guilty for not helping so I didn’t think I should rub it in by walking all over the mulch.

12-Oct-19
I attempted this last year but couldn't find anything and had run out of time.
This time I had a previous finder with me and we went to GZ - my coords were confirmed to be correct. We encountered said old gardening lady in the previous log, who told us to mind the flowers, then moved away out of sight to fill up her green waste bin, and I made the find quickly. Having no trains running this weekend is also a boon.
Thanks digitalformula

Needing some jewells for the current Mystery at the Museum souvenir thing I made my way to this Jewell.
Perhaps a busy afternoon was not the right time to be searching for valuables - even with the hint I couldn't find it, and then I started feeling uncomfortable with some weird stares which made me call off my search. Maybe I'll come back at 2am.

02-Aug-19
Just managed to get this one done and dusted before the hordes arrived. Thanks for the cache.

02-Aug-19
Could not have timed this one any better. Just walking away as the passengers from the train walked past. Thanks for the cache.

Information gathered, cache found, signed, replaced. As we walked away, the train arrived and dozens and dozens of muggles strolled past.
Timing!

New to the coaching game, first attempt at a multi cache! Took us a little while but once we figured out the clues and how to search coordinates we got it! Tftc!

29-Jun-19
Got drenched riding here this afternoon, but it's only water and it kept the foot traffic down. Easy find once I'd entered the correct co-ordinates - I'd found it quite hard with the wrong ones. Thanks digitalformula

While my husband was playing hockey at Brunswick SC my son and I went for a short walk to find some nearby caches. My son is not a geocacher and does not often accompany with me on my searches but he was in need of some mental therapy and company so I thought that this cache and its location may interest him. After walking along the path, discussing the various people that we saw and postulating about their lifestyles we came to the Jewell and set about answering the questions. A quick calculation and we were on our way to find the cache. My son decided that this was certainly a Jewell in his day as he has never seen a cache container like this one before.
Thank you digitalformula for this cache and putting a highlight in a muggle's day.

Yay! Thanks so much digitalformula for making the clues more clear and checking the cache, this was a very enjoyable lil' mystery and definitely worth a favourite point after all of that! Smile

Since this cache has been live so long (>8 years!) I'm going to re-verify the coordinate calculations based on the required info.

Should be back online within 24-48 hours.

06-May-19
Dropped by the published coordinates and GZ today. I've verified the sign at those coordinates still contains all the info you need to solve this one.

To help a bit, I've added a little more detail to the clues you need to solve. Big thanks to Whitepaws9 for showing that my hints/clues might've been a little misleading or confusing. Smile

This is now re-enabled and ready to be found.

Re the last 4x DNFs - maybe I need increase the difficulty on this one? Wink

Went and did a check today (Sunday May 5th), armed with a nice new container all ready to place. I figured after this many DNFs a muggling was quite likely.

Arrived at GZ but, lo and behold, the cache is safe and sound where it is supposed to be.

Please keep in mind that, as per the cache description, there's no need to get on your knees, crawl under, over or on anything to retrieve this one.

Go get it, team!

Loved the easy puzzle but sadly I think this has been muggled.

20-Mar-19
I worked out the number and had a good search, came up empty handed. I then went to a PAF and he said I was in the right spot but no find for me today.

17-Feb-19
Solved the clues and know pretty much where this cache is, just was not wearing appropriate clothes to crawl around amongst the broken glass and who knows what else. I was also doing this solo and their were lots of muggles around, so will have to come back another day when it is less busy.

22-Nov-18
Re that last note -

This cache has been here since 2011 and it's the first time this has happened.

I would suggest making it impossible for this to occur by using a little common sense and not trying to find it while there's a train sitting right there ...

As per the description, this is a high muggle area (train drivers included) and there's no need to climb onto or go anywhere near the train lines or platform area.

Arrived by train to attend the event nearby, but not before crunching some numbers on this multi and getting a green light here. Lucky for me the place was deserted.

Got absolutely blasted by a train horn whilst searching, and a very angry train driver who exited the train and asked us what we were doing. They said that people commit suicide by going under platforms all the time. So we left this cache, I don't think hiding it under a train platform is a very good idea. Thanks anyway.....

Finally found this one this afternoon after previously having a look for it previously today but we managed to find this sneaky little blighter after bringing another set of fresh eyes with us. Found while in town for the Mega Weekend and this one took way longer than required but it looks like we are not the only ones to have had the same trouble, co-ord's are spot on though! Thanks digitalformula for the little multi and the even littler hide.

I was out caching today with Happy Feet 1, Happy Pants & Omega Man our main aim was to complete the handbag series then find a few extras on the way back to the event.
Even after reading the hint it still took us sometime to find. We had all checked the location but had missed it on the 1st time around.
Thanks for placing this cache digitalformula

Out this way with Happy pants, omegaman1971 and Di Morgan. The main objective today was to do the handbag series after doing all the puzzles. Took the opportunity to also grab anything else we came across, along the way. We saw a number of other teams and visited some nice little park areas, while completing the series. We had no DNF's and made some good discoveries and clever hides during the day. The logs where signed HHO, while we had some fun and laughs along the way.

I had already had a DNF on this one. Then returning with some more help and extra eyes, I was still surprised to see that it took us so long and we almost DNFed it again but then the sneaky little blighter was spotted. Don't know how we had missed it before.

Thanks digitalformula for placing the cache for us to find and doing the maintenance to keep it in play.

More fun with the visiting group. We do love puzzles so you have to love any cache that needs a checker Smile

Generic Mega log:
Our trip to the Mega was shorter than the originally planned 4 days due to various personal issues. But a late gap in the calendar meant a FIFO for Brad only rather than the originally planned DIDO for both of us. Ruff_Ruff and TBQ also missed out.

Fortunately Brad was able to hook up with some enthusiastic teams for a busy time. Logs were signed /stamped with individual team names, or in some cases the various teams' initials of KBFGDJM were used for a group log. (or variant anagrams thereof.)

Thanks to all the tireless workers and hiders for all the great caches and for another excellent Victorian Mega Event

17-Nov-18
The first day of the Melbourne Parkville Mega event with the Godfather Freddo and gridge98, and we spent the day finding a few caches by car, learning about the SA Millicent 2020 Mega event, and then riding around the various river and rail bike trails collecting the Parkville caches. We ended the day by checking in to the Mega event, performing some lab caches, before having a nice cooked BBQ.

We rolled up to this tram station just as it had started going dark. With it being a Saturday night, there was police/guards about, and they must have thought it was weird to have a small group of guys with their bikes roll up to the platform and back. We originally had the wrong coordinates, and so worked out GZ with the green tick to the geochecker. Eventually made the find of this dang nano, thanks.

Argh nanos! Their frustration lies in the search, and even then when found, the difficulty in logging and rolling. Best characterised as that annoying friend that hangs with your bestie!

xApologies for the generic log below:

Away for the weekend with Freddo and Davidwazza to the Parkville Mega.
My first mega that I had attended and I had a really enjoyable time.
Some of the log books were signed with my name others were signed with just a G part of the group name, a combination of KBJGD.
We were happily joined by KB who was a machine finding a lot of the caches.
Thanks to the CO for all the placement of caches, the earyh caches answers will be sent in the coming days also.
We were very successful in finding majority of caches but some we DNF.

The Melbourne Mega has been and gone so now the hardest part for me is to log all these great caches that we have found over the past six days. We have had six days of full on caching which started with a few high D/T caches in Ballarat using kayaks, ladders, etc the assault started last Wednesday 14th but not without a few mishaps that included a tree fall, a number of bike mishaps and numerous bloodletting. Some of us look like the walking wounded but you just have to keep soldering on as there is always another cache to be found. I also have to include the stiff legs from all the kilometres walked.
Most logs were signed BABS which stands for brisal5, AnyMules, Bushfire and S.A Sewer Rats to save space in all the log books. This will a generic log owing to the huge number of caches to be logged so I would like to thank all cache owners for the time and effort it takes to place these caches and also for the maintenance of the said caches.
Again thanks to all the cache owners that helped to make the 2018 Melbourne Mega the great success that it was, so now to look forward to St. Arnaud next year where you will be blown away with the quality of the hides. Save up your favourite points as you will use heaps in this area.
As AnyMules has stated we did get muggled by the Protective Service guys but after explaining what we were doing they were happy.

15-Nov-18
Took a bit of a search but it was finally spotted.
We Were bailed up by Police Protective Services, as we started our search.
Explained what we were doing.

Log signed as BABS.

Day 3 of our epic 12 day / 10 night trek to the Parkville Mega in Melbourne. Razz
The constant was my travel companions for the entire trip, - Anymules and S.A. Sewer Rats but we were joined by almost local cacher Bushfire for a lot of the escapades Cool So to save space in the logs we usually just wrote our initials BABS to save space. Cool Having finally made to our Melbourne Digs for the bet five nights we decided to go for a walk [^]

So here we were crawling around on the ground and looked up to see two boys in blue who wanted to play twenty questions. Red Face They liked our answers and were about to walk off but I invited them to help and they did. [:o)] When I found the little suck one even supplied the illumination to write the log. Smile They were surprised to learn there could be quite a few people crawling around here in the next few day. Betcha they had some fun with that! [8)] but it was a nano so here it comes....

Bloody Nanos! Spawn of satan. Burn down the Nano factory, and exterminate anyone who sells Nanos.

Well, back again today in the rain and spotted that jewel straight away. I am sure I looked there last time when I expanded my search area.
Thanks for checking that it was still there after my DNF. It really does help you to search with new confidence. The name makes sense now too as does that extra clue.
After signing in I went for a cup of coffee in busy Sydney Rd. A place I know from childhood. i found a great bakery and coffee shop between the two op shops there. Green Refectory. Good to know for the Mega.
thanks for your support and the cache digitalformula
