Had a look near GZ - it's totally flattened! There is no way this one survived... In fact, it seems that the entire old bridge footings are gone!

05-May-13
What a shame this has been archived. We found the cache today in good order. It's not too difficult to walk along the river's shoreline outside of the works area and access the cache. The dock is still okay with a heritage sign, although the sign was lying on the ground. It was an easy find and I don't know why I found it so difficult last time, except that my GPS was indicating four metres away in the middle of the blackberries, which, by the way, have recently been poisoned. I thought I checked out the cache hidey spot last time, but obviously not well enough.

05-May-13
The cache is still okay, as is the old bridge end. It doesn't appear to have been touched by the works nearby, although some of the nearby log fences have been knocked down. A pity this has been archived. TFTC.

21-Feb-13
I think this is now off limits for a couple of years. Much heavy equipment doing what heavy equipment does best!

21-Feb-13
Damn Majura Parkway! Looks like they are building yet ANOTHER bridge here across the Molonglo… SMACK over the original heritage listed bridge! (Well – I tried to heritage list it). I expect the chance of my cache surviving are 1 in 5 million! Oh well, I shall disable it for now, keep my fingers crossed, and hope for the best… However, I do realise that there is more chance of me being hit by lightning that this cache surviving!

21-Feb-13
My only hope... The big fat bulldozer drivers will see my cache, and cease construction, to save my cache! After all - my cache was there first! Seeing that ZERO percent of the future drivers, driving across the new bridge will show any pity over the demise of my cache! In fact, they won't even pause to think that 50+ years ago there was a lovely quaint bridge in this very spot!

21-Feb-13
At the very least, you would expect the government to send me their apologies. AND provide me with adequate compensation! AND place a plaque in memory of the cache! Not to mention a debate at the next Senate Estimates hearing! Oh well, I guess I could try to look on the bright side… A new bridge provides potentially a new BRIDGE BANTER cache Smile

07-Feb-13
Found this about a week ago - did not get a chance to log at the time. Was orgianly going to try and find this a few months ago on a fun run before it started. Too many muggles turned up early so I had to wait for a better time when I was in the area. Rode past it the other day and the blackberries.

30-Dec-12
This cache sort of found me, the first spot I looked was a winner.

27-Dec-12
I couldn't see how to get to the cache without either wading through the water, or macheting my way through the blackberries.

25-Dec-12
Beautiful spot, pitty about the prickles.
Cache in good order.

23-Dec-12
It turned out to be a rare hot day for us in Canberra today, but our days living here are numbered, so we were determined to get a few more smiley faces on our map. We were able to drive the 4WD almost all the way to GZ which was a bonus. Once at GZ we had to take care with all the blackberry thorns around, and Marco did end up with a nasty cut from them, but he was rewarded with a find. TNLNSL TFTC

TFTC am rally enjoying caching in warmer weather and getting out and about

Got it at last after aborted attempt wearing a suit. This time I bought garden shears and cleared the jungle. TFTC

Another great hide by Tankengine and loved the hiding spot tricky

02-Sep-12
Think I took the long hard way into this one. Had mud, trees, large grass clumps, prickles and even a flapping half dead carp.
I prevailed in the end.
Nice hide and an interesting piece of history. Thanks

Got it thanks TankEngine. I like this part of Canberra Smile

13-Aug-12
I remember coming to this area for a certain puzzle cache many moons ago, but didn't notice this spot. Good to see a cache in this interesting historical spot. TFTC.

18-Jul-12
A nice little walk in, and found rather quickly. Thanks.

23-Jun-12
Jim and I had some time to spare after an appointment in Fyshwick so popped over to find this one - a nce easy-ish find that was a bit larger than expecting for a TE micro! Just had to think now where would Thomas put it? Not the obvious, nor the next or the next obvious options. Finally got it and were thankful for a sunny day! Signed log, TNLN, TFTC Smile

09-Jun-12
I mainly worked on mysteries and puzzles this trip but this was one that was between some of them so it fitted well. Another TE cache down and a nice little spot. I had fun on the way back to the car poking and prodding the ice that had formed on all the puddles! TFTC!

06-Jun-12
After the lunch event and reviving TE's 100 cache Pathtag, I was enticed to collect some of the other Tankengine caches that I have had on my radar and didn't get around to yet. This was one of them. In fact I was already within 50 meters of it once, at the time a new cache in Queanbeyan was published and I had to abort the approach.

Today a quick find once at GZ, with the experience from other TE caches and lack of hiding spots it was in the first place I put my hand on. Thanks for the cache Tankengine.

19-May-12
After being a little annoyed at the gates to our approach being closed (apparently to reopen in Spring 2011... maybe a little late!) we walked through and headed to the cache. Another great little piece of history down here. We'd never really have known what it was without the cache, so thanks again Tankengine.

19-May-12
There are some very mean spikey plants around here. I enjoyed the design on the boat height warning sign and the remains of this old bridge. Very good hide. TFTC.

03-May-12
Bit of off-road driving found us parked right next to the cache... Made a lucky find by sticking the hand in the right place and feeling something move..

Thanks TE..

09-Apr-12
Good day for climbing around things Smile ta, T

07-Apr-12
Beautiful day for caching. Tftc.

06-Apr-12
Interesting spot I remember the low level bridge, but it was before I was driving. A bit of a look became fruitful and a signature and of to the car. Thanks. Cheers

I really don't like thorns! TFTC.

Wow - sounds interesting!
Maybe I can make it a 'Bridge Banter' then Smile

146. Quick find returning from a Wamboin cache finding afternoon with the rellies. I believe all the equipment here, trucks/drilling rigs and barges are performing geotechnical investigations for the new road alignment for the Majura Parkway/ interchange. Maybe what was once a bridge will become a bridge once again. So if this cache is not on your found list, maybe you should get out here and log it because within the next couple of years it may need to be archived. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is what I believe is happening.
There were 4 water dragon guardians here this afternoon. TFTC.

Quickly located after a walk in through long wet grass.
Unlike some of the bridge banter series today.
Thanks for the cache.

23-Feb-12
Massive Lizard guardian at this one and FurfacesLL2 wouldn't go near until FurfacesLL1 moved it on. Brave girl....Poor thing he was getting the last hour of sun in. Interesting barge nearby with a truck on it. Great place in the middle of two busy intersections. Oh yeah and a quick find and the log signed when we remembered what we were here for.

19-Feb-12
Teamed up with Hoojar for the day - a very successful day it was too. We had good weather up to the point where we had other work to do. TFTC

19-Feb-12
Nighteez and I walked to here from a nearby Bridge Banter cache. A pleasant morning stroll. We were surprised to see a truck floating on a barge in teh middle of the water, it looked like it may have been there to do some maintenance on teh power lines?

Cheers

3rd of 3 this morning. A peaceful walk to GZ, where the find was soon made. A very cool GZ, not many people would know that this is here! Mr. Lizard was sitting here again today. TFTC Tankengine!Smile

20-Jan-12
Nice little bit of hidden history. TFTC

04-Jan-12
What a GOLDEN place for a cache!

I found a track, rode down at great speed and almost came asunder cos one of my pedals caught on the dirt sides where the 4WDs have carved wheel gorges. Nice little area, read the logs cos GZ wanted me a few more meters towards the water and I certainly didn't want to dive into those blackberries nor the water. Had a think and came up with it fast.
Thanx for a history lesson!

22-Dec-11
Found on evening trip to Costo for some last minute Christmas shopping. Found resident lizzard and the cache, no problems.

22-Dec-11
Quick find
Thanks

21-Dec-11
A quick find. TFTC

19-Dec-11
I chose totally the wrong time to attempt this cache, on the way to work in the morning when the long grass was still laden with moisture. I also started my trek much too far from the GZ... I could have pulled off the road much closer.

I was greatly alarmed by the massive blackberry bush next to GZ, but I didn't need to worry - some minor contortions and the cache was in hand. Shoes, socks and shorts soaked, I returned to the geomobile.

Great place and an interesting piece of Canberran history. TFTC!

10-Dec-11
Have been eyeing this one for too long, so time to "go in". A short wander with geoboy on a warm Sat morning. We startled the resident lizard who offered no help or clues. A closer look about and the cache was in hand. Another great Tankengine cache, many thanks.

05-Dec-11
Worked nicely to spend a few extra minutes while waiting to pick someone up from the airport. Few bunnies sped off into the brambles as I arrived, but the big lizard just kept sunning itself on the ledge below. Thanks.

Still going through old logs. - love Canberra history.

A tranquil spot to stop for lunch and a cache. Thanks Tankengine

21-Oct-11
A nice drive down to this area of the lake that I was quite unaware of. Thought twice about jumping into the water where my GPS was aiming at but the cache was soon in hand Wink

Many thanks for another great spot to visit TE.

12-Oct-11
Another great lunch time ride around the East Basin and another great cache. Was hoping to see the platypus but only saw a brown snake a ways back. TFTC

02-Oct-11
Finding this cache with my youngest son (aged 9) was a joy on many levels. First, we liked the cache hide itself (found it easily, and enjoyed the 'MO'). Then there was the local wildlife: we saw a platypus swimming in the river just off the dock, then a few minutes later we saw it again swimming in the opposite direction (or another one). I pointed out to my son how incredibly rare it is to have witnessed this in the natural environment. Then there was the bearded dragon sunning itself on the lower concrete ledge of the dock near water level. The other wildlife of particular interest was a large, fat brown snake we saw slithering away from us and into the pile of dead leaves which had accumulated around the base of one of the light poles back at the road-bridge (the western-most of the two bridges in that locality). All in all, a really great time together - then off to Costco to pick up my wife and another son whom we had dropped off earlier (their outing was less eventful than ours!). TFTC Tankengine! Smile

30-Sep-11
Found after leaving work, while heading for drinks. Parked a fair way away and had a bit of a hike, and turned out I probably could have driven most of the way to it (though the legality of this may have been questionable). Nice bit of history. Thanks for the cache.

16-Sep-11
(Puts mtbikeroz hat on) Have driven over this when it was a bridge MANY MANY times in the past. Seriously, when I was a kid my mum used to work in Fyshwick (not like that) and whenever I came to work with her we came over this bridge. It was quite a hairy little bride and an accident hotspot from memory.

Took a while to work out where to park and I'm sure there was a better way, but I'm just glad it isn't spider web season yet. Cache found after looking for and deciding against the usual TE MO in a few spots.

Thanks TE.

03-Sep-11
First stop and easiest stop of the day...no flying BMW's spotted here (but further down-river I saw one).

31-Aug-11
TFTC, love the history, cheers:)

28-Aug-11
Love the historic sites. Thanks Tank!!

27-Aug-11
After driving past this one so many times, it was time to head in and make the find. As I was leaving another person came by to check out the dock. I am pretty sure they were not a cacher. Thanks.

Grabbed this on a sunny afternoon when I didn't want to go bacvk to work. Ended up going to work and working late but the cache and location was worth it. I bit of a stretch in teh work suit but all good.

Thanks for andother groovy location cache.

26-Jun-11
Initially attempted this from the wrong side of the river but, once a suitable parking spot was found, it was a quick find in a good spot. TFTC

20-Jun-11
Nice Place. So many rabbits!

14-Jun-11
Nice walk to this one. It's good to be able to visit these old places.

Thanks Tankengine.Smile

03-Jun-11
I managed to ride all the way to the cache without any problems at all which was good given some of the obstacles around. Nice location. I love caches placed in interesting places and I just know that I was never going to head out here without some kind of motivation. Great view on a foggy morning. Thanks.

28-May-11
Nice location, First cache of the day..................logged late. d:-)

13-May-11
Lots of cars going by..not pass the dock though

13-May-11
Found with muzza201.

01-May-11
The spot where my GPS zeroed out was swarming with ants, so I didnt feel like standing still for too long. Had a bit of a look around, saw one likely spot (covered in ants) but a quick feel around revealed nothing. Beats me. One for another day I guess.

28-Apr-11
After parking on the other side of the river to realise the nearby bridge has no walking path across we decided it was safer to approach from a different location. We ended ip walking through very thick grass that was pretty high and wet to get to GZ. Once at GZ Miss Stormcatcher found the cache in the likely location. We walked back to the car via the dirt road and the dead end stairs which was much quicker then the grass but felt very unsafe walking on the road. TFTC

Found on a cool cloudy drive around the area.
Very nice hide, and I do like drive-by's.

14-Apr-11
Found on a lunchtime circuit of the lake. Have thought about placing a cache here myself but fortune favours not those who hesitate. Manage to drive close by and found in exactly the place I'd recce'd earlier. Thanks TE.

08-Apr-11
We had a false start with this one and came to a blocked off road. Another approach had us on the right track and we got to see all the debris still left here from the floods. A nice little bit of history to explore. All is in good condition. TFTC Cool

08-Apr-11
=) Spotted a random canoe guy dragging logs in the river with a rope on the way to this cache. Enjoyed the walk to this cache, TFTC =)

02-Apr-11
Reperio at 1325. The most difficult part of the cache was finding a good place to park and access point. In the end I parked about 400m away and found a nice little walking trail that led me straight past GZ. Found the cache in the first place I looked (amazingly enough) and then stood for a moment and tried to picture the crossing as it once was.

Gratias TE.

02-Apr-11
Today was my day for making things harder than they need to be! I did not plan my approach all that well and wound up with a short walk which was very nice in the sun. I sort of knew what I was looking for and once I arrived it was just a matter of putting my hands on it! Thanks tankengine.

28-Mar-11
Parked up and walked along the track instead of driving the very low geoMXmobile. A remarkably peaceful spot in the warm sunshine notwithstanding the nearby traffic.

20-Mar-11
4078. [font=Century Gothic][green]Wandered in from the road and then saw where I could have driven i n easier than where I originally thought. A few people were fishing as I srolled past to this part of the Derry Ferry (or Dairy Fairy - your choice). Aha straight away I had the cache but it was a bit disappointing that it was a copy. A very tough to shift copy. In fact no that's not it. But the real cache wasn't too far way. Top spot for a bit of a sit and contemplate - when the traffic is light anyway.

Found yuor cache at this historical spot, part of the old Duntroon dairy farm.

07-Mar-11
Great cache. As Mrs Jaybeem! Always says: check the obvious first

05-Mar-11
Found @ 12:50pm

This one took longer than it should have - I looked in that spot twice before seeing it!! Thanks for the piece of local history Tankengine!!

02-Mar-11
Found I was on the wrong road to the water ski area where I wanted to park, but managed to find a largish section of bike lane to pull over in, 220m from GZ. Thought I would make a quick dash.

Quick nab, huge lizard sunning itself just below GZ was startled by my presence, however didn't move an inch.

Thanks for the cache TE and the little piece of history.

27-Feb-11
There's a very big water dragon living there - he looked a bit hungry too! Nice spot to watch the world whiz by!

23-Feb-11
3473 + 74 = 3547. A good run after work with Sol today....

I can't possibly count how many times I've driven past this area and seen the Dock. Finally walked into the area to have a look and to find the cache - thanks Tankengine - as interesting as always !

TNLN - TFTC !!

Cheers....

23-Feb-11
Interesting spot, rocked up, tried to find anchor & boat - whoops, wrong cache. Once I sorted that out, cache found quickly. Lots of logs around, Thanks TE.

23-Feb-11
1st of 4 finds on an after work run with fitzy. Amazingly on all 4 we followed MBO, but I guess he did them on a morning run.

Arrived at GZ and the cache was soon in hand. You can certainly see where the water has been after last December's floods.

Interesting spot and history lesson, thanks Tankengine.

22-Feb-11
Just a Cacher & I found ourselves with a few spare minutes while driving past the ski park so took the side exit to get to the old dock site. A little searching soon had GZ narrowed down and a quick find on the cache. SL TNLN Thanks Tankengine for another interesting cache.

22-Feb-11
Black Bunny & I found ourselves over this way this morning so a slight detour was called for to grab this new TE cache. So took the side exit to get to the old dock site and after a little searching soon had GZ narrowed down and the cache in hand. SL Thanks Tankengine for another interesting cache and location.

21-Feb-11
Got home from the gym today and saw this cache hadnt been found. So txted jusojara who was just eating dinner. So I said no worries. After he had finished dinner I get a txt saying you still on for this cache. So of course I said yes.
Off to gz we went and drove down the track to gz. Once there we made a quick find. We opened the log and to our surprise still a *FTF* Thanks TankEngine for bring us to this little piece of local history

21-Feb-11
Flight from Sydney arrived in at 10pm, no finds logged and my headlamp still sitting on the backseat, so suit and all, I made my way through long brush and undergrowth, only to see another light bobbing along a somewhat easier path. Turned out to be M Family, so we searched together. Once cache was located, we discovered that JJ and Roo had beaten us to the prize. Still, it was a fun adventure after a long day's work.
TFTC

21-Feb-11
Bumped into JustinCBR on the way to the cache in the dark and we searched together> I found the cache and just as was JustinCBR congratulating me on the FTF I see the log and find we were celebrating prematurely.... TFTC!

21-Feb-11
I saw that this was still un-found after tea so headed out with mr_roo to GZ hoping that everyone else had assumed it was found already. We must have been right, after parking within 20m of GZ we made our way to it and I spotted the likely hiding spot. After checking I had the blank log in my hand for an *FTF* at 2050hrs. Thanks TE - I remember the old bridge that used to be here.
