As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.
Have checked the geocache after a lot of DNF. And it appears the geocache has gone. So unfortunately I am going to have to disable the listing until I come up with an alternate device/ hiding spot.
Did not find it. Spent 30 minutes looking, with copious mobile Muggles passing and gawking at these strange people grovelling on the ground. Did find a WWW.MUNZEE.COM tag tacked to a road sign, 10 to 12 metres from GZ. It said "You have found me". Thought we were successful, but after checking "MUNZEE" do not think so.
Can someone confirm the cache still there?
Enjoyed the history lesson.

Petty amazing when you think of how far this ship came inland. Didn't find the cache but really enjoyed being brought here.

This is the sort of spot geocaching should bring a person [^]. An interesting piece of history with expansive views. Plenty of birds too. Log book damp.
A quick easy find, with markh_nz at an interesting monument. The log was a bit damp and delicate. TFTC
Found while heading out for a days tramping up various tracks in the Karangahape Gorge, sky starting to lighten up, TFTC
No problems, found OK on a bit of a Waikato caching trip. This one was rather interesting, a bit of history I didn't know about.

On a cache raid from Bombay to Thames, came cross country from the 27 to find some Paeroa caches before heading north. Had just taken the log out when 2 cars pulled in. Had to be quick to sign and replace the cache. TFTC

Found during the sixth day of vacation in North Island, on our way from Pauanui to Turangi.
A day dedicated to the earthcaches but not only.

road trip with jillopy & return2nai, spotted the cache before we got out of the car
Quick find with Grimdragons on a leg stretching stop. Cache dam but still writable. TFTC!
Nice to be able to stop at places like this, which unless there was a cache here, you'd never think to stop at. nice quick one this, log was signed and on to the next one.TFTC
Would have been very easy to drive past here and not have noticed anything if it wasn't for a cache being here. Nice quick find in a nice little area on our way down south for the weekend. TFTC
On the way to National Park for the much anticipated Tongariro crossing and decided to tick off a few caches on the way. Nice spot for little stopover.

Rain rain and more rain. Out with the brolly for a quick find at a place I have passed many times and not taken any notice of. TFTC
Easy find in passing - Didn't cap'n Cook do well!
Logbook was damp, but still able to write in it. TFTC

A simple drive by with an interesting history lesson. Love the ones where you learn something! TFTC
Nice easy place to stop off the busy highway for a quick legstretch on the way to Mt Maunganui.... funny to discover the log was signed earlier today by another Northland cacher! Interesting history to ponder over... TFTC
We are in Nz from Australia on Chippyroo's Middle Earth Caching Quest and today is our second last full day. We were travelling from Omokoroa (where we stayed in the Kiwi Holiday Park - highly recommended!) to Auckland grabbing caches along the way. This was a rather easy find as we could see the cache on approach! TFTC
Enjoyed reading the history of the place. Hard to believe this was once a dense forest! The log is very damp and getting close to turning to mush.
Many thanks

Yay! Kia Ora. Our first NZ cache after several failed attempts around Auckland muggle central. A fantastic spot overlooking the river. Strange to think British explorers were in the same area centuries ago. Unfortunately the log book is very damp. Photo (to follow) shows some visiting UK TBs. TFTC
I never knew this monument was here - a straightforward find just off the main road. TFTC
First find for the day after setting out from Kaiaua. Interesting peice of history.

Quick stop on our way to the mount for Labour weekend. Nice quick find! TFTC! Another addition to our Lonliest Cache Challenge.
Quick stop on the way back to Auckland having picked up 6 different cache types on a night run starting just before midnight - Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Tauranga... 10centcoin wanted another lonely cache. Quick find. TFTC!!!
On a mission today to get as many cache types as possible with FMZ. This was number 2(d) of 10. Great Traditional Cache...and a quick stop on our mission this morning. This cache is also qualified as a Loneliest Cache being 5km from its nearest neighbour ...TFTC [loneliest #10]
Tried to place a cache here a while ago and gave up on spots to hide but see that the cachesaurus rex sorted out a way .. I believe there is a plaque in Kopu placed where Cook actually came ashore.

And to think I drive past here twice a day to and from work at the local school and never knew it was here. Thanks!
#1174 Had spied this site the last few trips down past here. Nice to find a cache here. Thanks for the history. Quick find. SL. TFTC.
Learnt some more about our history while we pretended to have a picnic in the cold, blustery weather. Quick and easy. TFTC
A nice quick and easy drive-by. An interesting spot with the little history lesson compiled especially - many thanks
Cool. I had driven by this spot but had failed to note the little cairn. Thanks for placing a cache here.
On a wee road trip to collect a few different cache types today. Stopped for a few traditionals along the way to break the trip. Wow! What a historic spot and I bet most people whizz past without any idea this is here. Thanks for bringing me to this spot. TFTC, Biggles.

Quick stop to stretch the legs, not that it was a long drive from the last cache down the road!! Quickly found, no worries here.

On the road with GreenBlat, Tofska and Kiwi Leon and this one was on the radar. Was a very quick find on a quite Monday morning. The river looked rather full and brown after the recent heavy rains. TFTC and the history.
Found together with Helsman GadgetTron, First M@ Tofska, and purser KiwiLeon. It was very decent of Jimmy Cook to whip out the sextant and jot down the coords so that a cache could later be placed on this auspicious spot. T4TC
Found with the rest of the crew. One wonders why Captain Cook was so curious to explore this particular river. T4TC - M@
Out with GreenblAt, Gadget-tron and Tofska to climb Te Aroha.
Found on our way in the morning.
So it took them 4 days to build the memorial.
Thanks for sharing this historic place.
