Letting this one go

11-Jul-20
Think we had the right place but nothing. Given previous comments we gave up

25-Jan-20
Went and did the calculations, added the missing post, found general area, no cache, read tuolei's log, checked their update on location, but nothing. Could easily have the wrong location on which to base the location opposite, but think the owner should check this out and update description and hint if necessary.

Followed instructions as well has holding nose (one smelly castle), done the maths and came up empty. Maybe our maths was out, maybe it was missing, maybe next time

04-Jan-19
Out with Tuolei to do a little caching around Orakei, the second for the day, Tuolei and Albert did the counting and we then cross checked the sums which confirmed we were in a good location. After about 10 mins of hunting around GZ including searching a little further afield, we returned to the original spot where I managed to find the remains of the log book on the ground - it must have been muggled sometime ago.
We have replaced the cache with a hanging bison in the place where the coordinates were pointing to (seaward side). TFTC

04-Jan-19
Out with Bennett24 clearing a few city multis and a couple of other caches and came down to do this one. Certainly a lovely castle here and is nicely done, after a quick couple of goes over the cache listing page we were on to what to do and get a decent number that worked with all of the sums on the first go - noticed very quickly that one of the rails was missing and accounted for that in our calcs. Projected waypoint looked very likely and off we went.

Quickly at the final but got slowed down here by not being able to find anything. On the offchance that our calculations were off we had a good look at all of the nearby likely spots that matched the hint but nothing was showing itself. This brought us back to the original spot where sadly Bennett24 found the logbook, rather worse for wear, on the ground. It seems the container has been muggled and the logbook was left behind. A replacement has been left in the form of a bison tube in the small tree opposite the original. Hope that's OK.

Attached is a photo of the poor logbook.

Thanks for the multi.

27-Jun-18
Must the first time I have calculated a multi, gone to the new GZ and spotted the cache immediately just where I thought it should be. I really pleasant sunny day and visit to a rather nice location with history that I've never been to before.

17-Sep-17
Got to the first point and counted up carefully. Two sets of counters meant we were likely to have a good check on the answer. Accounting for the missing one and we did the sums. Pointed us to a likely spot. In fact our co-ords had us on the opposite side of the path but some geosense and an extended search meant we located it.

Whyyyy

05-Aug-17
With rebel98 and little rebel finding a couple of caches. Hmm had a problem with the maths on one of the co-ords which had us in the wrong zone Sad

And sadly could not see the error of my ways until PAF and then the penny dropped with a clang Big Grin Thanks guys.

Thanks for the multi and the hide. A busy spot for a lunch time snack!

05-Aug-17
Had to PAF or two for this one until the penny dropped must of been the late night or early morning never mind got there in the end TFTC.

22-May-17
I wanted to get myself a cache after work, it was warm at 3pm and I wanted to stay that way so I trotted off to here. I fancied a multi too and this looked interesting. Also a place I haven't walked around in Auckland. So I parked up and took myself to the co-ords stated passing by several people enjoying themselves in the warm sun then I could see the 'castle' concerned.
Counting stuff is what I do best - and who ever heard of a builder that couldn't count timber? I got this sorted! A methodical count up and I had the correct number right on my first attempt. I know this because then after loading up the corrected co-ords I was soon at GZ signing myself in! I must be a better builder than I thought I was... Ohh the pressure! Cheers big ears for the cache!

15-Mar-17
I aswwll stumbled on the missing post however had coords that seemed to be correct luckly tgey were wasnt to keen on a recount

15-Nov-16
I couldn't have chosen a better day to do the ceremonial counting of the battens and posts: it was high tide on the supermoon, and I've never seen the water so high in Hobson Bay. Quick calculation and then easy find. TFTC. #186

11-Jul-16
Had to count a few times as the geokids were being very unhelped chatting and jumping and generally making noise which put me off my task. Eventually got there and made sure to account for the missing one. Did the calcuations carefully and was happy to see gz was towards where we had parked the car. Made a nice quick find once there and geogirl did a swag swap. Made our way along the pier nearby and geoboy kept talking about sharks and then all I could think about were the various movies where the sea monster/ Jaws etc destroy the pier trying to eat the people upon it. Took some photos and then made a rather hasty retreat. Thanks for this nice little multi. Smile

25-Jan-16
I disturbed a King of the Castle doing a monologue into his camera, but I must have scared him off as he quickly retreated so I claimed the title. I counted right first time, adding one more as one of the uprights is missing, did my sums then made my way along the path to put my name on the log

09-Jan-16
We entered the castle at low tide.
We both counted and got the same result. After a short walk we could claim the treasure.
TFTC, greetings from Finland!

01-Dec-15
The battens took some counting. It didn't help that one was missing. But finally got it right, so off to the final which the GPSr showed was in the tide. Had a quick rethink, and the cache was soon in hand.

24-Oct-15
First find of the day, hardest part was managing to count the slats with two boys in the team struggling to stay quite! Never been here before, cool spot. TFTC.

22-Oct-15
Needed a cache for a gap in our calendar and a multi will also help with our current GIO licence challenge so we settled on this one not far from home. Quick bit of counting and maths and we soon had the cache in hand. TFTC Smile

20-Oct-15
Found it left coin in jar

13-Oct-15
Found the treasure when no one was around, at high tide.

06-Sep-15
Had the count confirmed by my dirty rascals, pity the king was not so good with his numbers, luckily the queen was able to sort it out so the brave Knight could rescue the cache. Thanks for the conundrum.

18-Jul-15
Out with beconaze, surveying the vastness of the kingdom under the sun. The ceremony was performed with great accuracy, and the prize was found. TFTC!

10-Jul-15
We came, we saw, we conquered, we proclaimed, we lol'd, we counted, we hunted, we got the smiley

05-Jul-15
Solved the first part but couldn't find it.

11-Mar-15
Had come out this way for a cache published in 2006, but hadn't been able to find Sad , so decided on this multi to make up for the DNF.
We did an elaborate ceremony, a lot of dancing about, waving arms and proclaiming, but it was the mozzies who were king of the castle Twisted .
Very hard to concentrate on the maths while being eaten alive, so wasn't sure if I'd got it right, or whether to count the missing batten or not (either way didn't quite work outRed Face) . However felt I was close enough to give the final ago, and wasn't willing to hang about any longer rechecking the math. Had also convinced Hubby to come with, so didn't want any further reason for him not to like cachingTwisted.
By now it was dark and we were searching by light on phone, so basically by feel. Thankfully mozzies had stayed in the castleBig Grin.
Didn't find where we first looked so widened search area to allow for the possible miscalculations and came up trumps straight away (well Hubby did - I missed it[B)]) TFTC Smile

18-Nov-14
A nice. quick little multi. One of the battens has gone missing, but it's obvious where it was so it should be counted otherwise the maths doesn't work (unless I had an off-by-one error in my counting). TFTC

04-Nov-14
Another hospital visit, another excuse for my sister (garball) to drive me to a cache or 2. Enjoyed this little stroll and we managed to come up with the same number after our counting effort. Got the right co-ordinates and found the cache, a nice simple multi. Thanks for the hide funkymunkyzone.

Was at the hospital again today with my sister (casaba3) and we couldn't resist going for a couple of caches afterwards on our way back to her place. Not sure why we didn't try to find this one when we were last caching here but today we stopped, counted, had the same number (one batten missing but we reckon that was a recent loss so counted it anyway, had the same amount so set to calculating the final. Guess we declared ourselves Queens of the castle today. Of all the people on the whole beach there was a couple of mums right near GZ (no-one else around at all!)but they were concentrating on their little ones so we managed to make the find and sign the log without anyone the wiser. Surprised this hasn't been found more considering it has been around for a couple of years. Thanks FMZ for bringing us to the castle.

Solved stage 1 a while ago but couldn't get the final as the beach was too crowded. Returned today during lunch time to make a quick find. TFTC

Nice camo, this was my first multi and I found it on my second attempt after relising I entered the whong cood's TFTC! Picked up TB

09-Jan-14
Came here with voshed to help him do another nearby cache and decided i would be the King Of The Castle at the same time. Couldnt find the other cache but enjoyed finding this one great little area. Tftc

03-Jan-14
Nice little walk sorted out coords with a little bit of assistance from a fellow cacher and saw cache straight away tftc

08-Dec-13
Nice one, and a very pleasant way to spend half an hour after work. Like some others have commented, GPS was a little out, but just resorted to trial and error, and soon found. I think it might have been moved from original location due to being exposed when vegetation has been chopped back...
It also seemed nice place to drop off, a 'Not So Nice' fellow, Baron Silas Greenback. Hopefully the ambiance of the surroundings will cheer him up a bit

thanks V.

21-Nov-13
Either had maths wrong or entered incorrectly but soon sorted. TFTC.

21-Nov-13
Was with Ric today to find this after he did the math ! Was exposed again so covered it up .... interesting area !

#611 It was a stellar day down here today- I arrived when the tide was only just going out and the water was so clear. The sun was out, it was warm and there weren't many muggles to contend with. Did my maths and wandered over to GZ- picked up some rubbish while I pin-pointed where the cache would be- my co-ords turned out to be about 6m away from the cache. Spotted it exposed but blending in well and signed the log in the sunshine. Nice little multi and always fun to explore a new area. TFTC!

24-Aug-13
Smile Took two attempts. Helps when you get the maths correct!

11-Aug-13
Great spot. TFTC

31-Jul-13
A very nice multi. And after I've counted the timbers I found the cache quite easy.
Thank you very much

28-Jul-13
It's always good to throw in some multis when trying to get the numbers up! Especially when they require counting Wink We counted all the battens and posts and then sat down to do the maths. Quickly worked out the equations and soon spotted the hiding spot. Thanks for the fun multi! Smile

28-Jul-13
We walk this path a few times a week so it was about time we stopped and enjoyed being Kings and Queens for a few minutes. There were a few people out today and they all looked at us rather strangely - I was feeling a bit like I had OCD..... Red Face.

A nice quick find at the final. TFTC FMZ.

Were wandering in the area for reasons only known to caching...! Enjoyed this one, definitely king (and queen) of the castle - beautiful sunset tide out evening, TFTC!

02-May-13
They say that "Geocaching is not about the numbers"
This cache certainly breaks that myth. As numbers are so important here.
Very nice spot to own a house

Well, i made a complete bungle of this one! Even resorted to calling the CO who gave me a few hints on the hide although, hints don't help though if you cant even get your counting sorted! [B)][:o)]

I checked and rechecked my calculations and still came up with the same answers. Searched around in the wrong place for far too long in the fading light. Gave up and went back to redo the counting. Yep, completely stuffed that by exactly 100 posts!! Not sure what happened on my behalf but i really did make a hash of this one! Redid the calculations and coordinates looked much more feasible. Cache found in the first place i checked this time round. We all seem to have our moments with what seems easy caches, and this one took the cake!! Thanks FMZ for the multi and the idiot moment on my behalf CoolBig Grin

16-Mar-13
Out and about in the area tidying up a few caches with evilno9 and this was next on the list. Never really been down here before so nice to explore. Did the formalities and WP1, and after a few attempts on the maths, managed to sort out the final, and soon found the cache. Nice multi in a nice spot. TFTC

16-Mar-13
Out here today with Lemski and with the weather holding decided a trip to the castle was in order before the rain came back. Nice and quiet along here and after a couple of addition and subtraction issues we were off to the final for a nice quick find. Nice little spot for the final - TFTC

19-Jan-13
Perfect weather today for a round of geocaches. That's what we did and this nice small multi was part of it. Thanks!

09-Dec-12
Fantastic view here with the great weather and discovering a new walkway I didnt know was here!
Lovely and hot on top of the 'castle' today.

18-Nov-12
Counting is not usually my strong point. Actually anything with math is usually a problem. But a quick find here. Thanks.

08-Nov-12
Chanced upon this one while looking for another and we are always up for a multi. Still haven't figured out the real purpose of the "castles". Cache was a nice quick find after sorting out stage 1. TFTC.

08-Nov-12
After a fruitless search for another cache josiey and I had a quick and happy result with this one. Luckily we agreed on the number with our first count.

16-Oct-12
Tried not to go cross eyed counting the posts. Must have got my tally and my sums right though as the cache was quickly found. Nice multi! TFTC, Biggles.

12-Oct-12
Nice and quick count and the figures looked good. Sure enough they were as they led us straight to the cache. Thanks for another multi to add to our tally.

The race was on for the king of the castle, Mr Geckoh won with a bit of intuition and left Mrs and Miss Geckoh as the dirty rascals........

Nice spot, thanks.

16-Sep-12
mrs j set off on her own on a gloriously sunny Friday to claim the castle as her's. This was a building site since we were last here - what a change - truly fit for a king. It was such a nice day mrs spent a good half hour doing the counting and a further half hour doing the calculations. Should definitely have assigned the tasks to personal assistants - at least there were no paparazzi watching the sun worship. Finally got a count that worked but was unwilling to stick the royal hands in the necessary spots. Back in her less substantial castle found yet another right royal stuff up. The difference was only 4 m but returning today with mr j the treasure was found in the first place examined. A very nice multi! NINO TFTC

25-Aug-12
Well my counting was fine, did it twice. But my math came unstuck several times, results varied by kilometres. But in the end this court fool worked out where the 0 goes when dealing with 2 digits, and charged of on my 2 wheeled steed to the treasure.

15-Aug-12
After sitting in the car for 15 minutes in the late evening until the rain subsided, I conquored the castle Big Grin - although I think my counting was not quite up to scratch!. Fortunately the calculations clearly put me near enough and with a quick hunt in one object followed by another nearby, the cache was in hand Big Grin. Picked up TB…TFTC

25-Apr-12
Needed to wait for a while to look for a new car. had some more time left to do this multi. Nice for our doggies, but we had a borrowed car and didn't wan them to take a plunge in the mud.

We do like these kind of multi's...more....more

Left devil behind

Have been meaning to explore this walkway for years... today was finally the day, and pity to have left it so long. A fun and quick puzzle on a gorgeous Easter Sunday! They are curious structures indeed... TFTC =)

03-Mar-12
A great little multi (a favourite from me) loved the views and that it was very do-able. t4tc

25-Feb-12
Popped out with the Future Finder to fill a matrix square in--you know the drill. He was very impressed with the castle and happily had a run on the beach (low-tide). That left me to do the actual counting and maths. Must have been close enough because I found the cache in the first place I checked. When it comes to descriptions on GPSr devices, well, let us just say, less is more. Cheers for the cache!

12-Feb-12
With the constant need to improve maths in the field (problem is never enough paper - the excuse), finally managed to nail the maths first time. Liked the castle with no access. Quick find at GZ. TFTMC.

05-Feb-12
I was certainly King of the Castle today with all the serfs running or walking by beneath me. Oh what a lovely feeling and then I came down to reality and went home to my wife.

Cheers for the cache.

28-Jan-12
This area has certainly changed since the last visit, and much for the better. Quick count up then off to find the cache.

TFTC

27-Jan-12
8643 Like the great King Canute... we managed to hold back the seas long enough to safely retrieve the cache... Nice muddy views from the castle, TFTC.

25-Jan-12
My installation as King of the Castle was unfortunately scheduled for low tide this morning. When I arrived to much fanfare and a cheering throng of my loyal subjects I performed the required ceremony commemorating each of the venerable pillars that hold up the railing of my great castle. Then having accepted the adulation of my subjects I embarked upon my first quest as King to vanquish the dragon guarding the treasure hoard that should rightfully be mine. Dragon vanquished and treasure claimed the honor and glory were mine! FTF #4 for me and the second of the morning! TFTC!

Not sure of exact date, somewhere around then (logging a year and a half later), was a fun cache. Though I live less a km from the cache, it was a place I'd never been to, so kudos for that. TFTC
