Gevonden!

Back on the road again for another international trip. This time to Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and South Korea.
Like our previous trips we focussed on old caches, high favorites, rare cache types and pretty locations.
Most of the trip was together with Plaguerider, Zanna and FLtravelers, but some of it I did solo.
Logs were signed as DATT (Do All The Things) and if there were answers, we typically sent them as a group.

Thanks for maintaining the caches for us.

**Trip log:**
Found during Team DATT's (Do All The Things) annual international caching trip consisting of FLtravelers, PlagueRider, waterfan5 and myself. Africa kicked it all off back in 2016, with a follow up European tour last year. I tried to pitch Asia but the pull of the Great Ocean Road and completing our 6th continent was too strong, and we landed on week long road trips through both Australia and New Zealand. Before meeting the team in Sydney though, I was able to schedule some layovers in Asia (Beijing, Bangkok and Singapore), so in the end I got a bit of everything. =)

**New Zealand Day 13 - Picton -> Nelson -> Greymouth:**
Today we took the very non-direct route from Picton to Greymouth to maximize our coastal views. Lots to see and do along the way, including a stop at the Nelson cathedral, a rainbow covered Maruia Falls, and the amazing Pancake Rocks at sunset.

**Cache Log:**
Quick grab while stopped for the nearby virtual.

We’re on our annual international geocaching trip as Team DATT (Do All The Things) comprised of FLtravelers, PlagueRider, waterfan5, and zanna. This year we chose to explore Australia and New Zealand. Zanna and I decided to do a two-day stopover in Beijing, a three-day stopover in Bangkok, and a 12-hour layover in Singapore on our way to meet up with the rest of the team in Sydney.

Once we got the Team back together, we made a “bee-line” to Lane Cove and various caches around Sydney. Then we headed down the coast on A1. After visiting Wasp Head, we headed up through Canberra and down M31 to Melbourne, after a webcam stop on Mount Buller.

We had a great time in Melbourne, which is my favorite city in Australia so far, then onto the Great Ocean Road, the highlight of Australia for this trip. After a couple days (not nearly enough) we left the ocean road and headed up A6 towards Victor Harbor (webcam) and Adelaide (webcams) for our flight to Auckland. Seems we found every webcam in Australia.

After a short week in Australia, we flew into Auckland and continued with our explorations in New Zealand. We drove over to Tauranga, and then down to Rotorua and Taupo, enjoying the thermal features. We headed down 5 to Napier, with stops at a couple of waterfalls, and then down to Wellington to catch the ferry to the South Island.

We spent the night in Picton, and then over to the awesome west coast, before crossing over Arthur’s Pass on our way to Christchurch for flights home.

We targeted old caches, highly favorited caches, earthcaches, virtuals, and of course webcam caches, and anything else that got our interest along the way. Logs were signed DATT. Answers, where required, were sent by one of the team members. Thanks for adding to the enjoyment of our trip with this cache. Great spot.

The two Geocaching goals for this trip was to locate the virtuals in the area and also the CANZ caches. Today we headed into Nelson to focus on these caches in the area. Plus any other we happen to be near.

Here finding the Virtual so I couldn't leave without finding this one too!

Greetings from Texas! This cache is one of the great reasons why we love geocaching. It brings us to places like this. Hubby's father was a physicist, so this place has extra special meaning to him. Love the statue and loved reading the plaques. Happy to give it another favorite point! TFTC!

Today we made a trip to Lake Rotoroa. Very nice landscape, unfortunately also some rain was on the way. At the lake etaws could be bathed until the biting flies annoyed us a bit. The way back to Nelson was Cacher time again. Several simple and nice caches were on the way, sorry for the standard log. It becomes more individual again when the www is more stable on the road. Now we'll make a ratatouille.

Greetings from Minnesota, USA! VikingNav and I are traveling through New Zealand for 7 weeks enjoying our great adventure. We spent about 3 weeks on the North Island and just came over on the ferry to the South Island to spend a few weeks here. We stayed in Nelson yesterday and today and this cache was on our target list for today. We enjoyed it very much! Log was signed. Thanks for helping make our stay in the area great! >^..^

#5288. The family are on holiday in the South Island. After driving up from Lake Brunner yesterday we spent the night in Westport. Today we are heading to Nelson. Of course I have a list of geocaches to tick off before we arrive in Nelson. I have been to site of Lord Rutherford's birthplace in the 1980s. I couldn't remember the memorial from back then so decided to look up when it was built. It was opened in 1991. Saw there was a nearby traditional so headed over here to make a quick find. Signed and replaced as found. Thanks for hiding it here Sidewaze. Interestingly I was over in Pongaroa in southern Hawkes Bay several weeks back and saw the monument to another New Zealand Nobel laureate (Maurice Wilkins). His pioneering work was in using new photographic techniques that helped to established the model of a double helix structure for DNA - the code of all living things. Interesting that both these famous men came from a tiny NZ farming community and went on to achieve greatness in the fundamental aspects of modern physics and biology.

On our South Island road trip to Dunedin. Heading back north now. Stopped off at the Rutherford Memorial to grab the virtual and it would be rude not to get this one too. Probably don't have time for the wherigo as well though. A quick find and a nice shady place to sit and sign the log. TFTC.

Another nice day in Nelson so it is time to get a few more caches of my to-do list. Caches like Virtuals, A Wherigo or two, some solved Puzzles, afew qualified Challenges and the odd Trad thrown in the haul.

I just couldn't not sign this trad off seeing that I was at the GZ for this and a couple of others.

Cheers for the cache, sidewaze.

The Seagnoid has a caching mission of two this weekend so the Team (The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I head to Brightwater, Nelson to complete his mission. I noticed this structure on our P&G expedition around Brightwater recharging Tobys battery. So now I get to revisit it and check it out. Caching first on this very cold, overcast Saturdy morning. Snagged and tagged with the help of the Seagnoid. Now I can start reading all the amazing info boards here - so we stayed awhile. Thankfully Toby restarted and we are forgiven. Thanks heaps for bringing me here. Cheers

As i discovered the virtual cache along my road south, i had to make a stop here. And first did this traditional cache. Finding it wast so difficult and my name is now in this caches log too. So my vacation here i New Zealand stays a successful one, as another cache was found on the South Island.
Thank you from the german geocacher that visited this place and cache today.

At the moment Pfote and me are on a work and travel backpacking trip through the world. After more than two years in Australia we took the chance to be so close to New Zealand, which is the farthest place on earth from our home. So we hopped over and will travel at least most of the south island in the upcoming months.

A quick and easy find on our way to the virtual. Our tyre found a nail on the car park Sad

TFTC and greetings from Germany.

CrackedChelle and I are over from South Australia touring Christchurch, West Coast and Nelson before staying with my sister and her family in Upper Hutt. I'm an ex-pat from Nelson and this is Chelle's first adventure to Aotearoa.
Chelle made the find on this one, except all she found was a magnet. She contacted CO who graciously said we could log the find. Thank you. Big Grin
I was born at Nelson Hospital and lived in Richmond until heading out into the big world.
I am proud of Earnest, Lord Rutherford so wanted to show Chelle his birth place. I am pleased they have made such a lovely monument to him.

Found a magnet in a good hiding spot that looks like it had a cache attached - pretty sure it's broken. CO might like to come and look.

09-Sep-16
With the CO's permission, I am logging a find. Visiting New Zealand from Australia with Apty who was born in Nelson.

Important location, this. I remember looking at some of Rutherford's experiments when I was studying physics in high school. It was great to be here and read the stories as I walked around the monument.

Thanks for the cache. I hope you re-enable it again, soon.

We went hiking to discover nice places and landscapes, and of course play geocaching at the same time Smile
We found all the boxes without difficulty and discovered really good spots for photography.
We will keep good memories from everything we saw (Lake Rotoiti, Lake Rotoroa, Mt Robert, Moria Gate Arch, Mirror Tarn...)
It was a good opportunity to see a lot of native birds on each tracks we went.
So surprising to see them so close and get great pictures Smile
