This one has had it's day. Opening up room for other caches.

29-Aug-19
Day 2 on the Hakarimata range. I started yesterday on the southside where i found the first serie. After parking at the Brownlee Ave I went up. Stairs, stairs and more stairs. This one was found on my way down. Nice spot so close to the track!

16-Mar-19
Had DNF here before. Thanks to previous Finders for replacement! Found as per hint!

09-Mar-19
On a weekend trip to Huntly with McJandals to do the southern end of the Hakarimatas. After rain on the way over the day before - Saturday was looking good and stayed perfect all day We loved the walk and were amazed how good the track was We were very proud to find all the caches even though some had had DNFs. I think this was because we just did one end and didn’t have to rush Nice to have all those stairs on the way down. Lots more people on this part of the track Thanks to all the COs for some great caches We tried to find this one and had no luck. So we placed a new cache for the CO. It is easy to get from the track so be very careful of muggles and recover well. Got permission from CO to leave this replacement cache TFTC

09-Mar-19
On a roadie with NZ Flossy to try complete the Southern end of the HAKARIMATA series, and probably a few others along the way. I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing me here. We parked at the main car park to the steps and walked the couple of kms to start at the south end, which in the end was the best way for us to do this, I would have died if I had to climb those steps first!! Coming down was bad enough. Was replaced with COs permission. Cheers

12-Oct-18
Will check this one soon.

After finishing the Trail we had still some time until the sunset so we dicided to walk in to the Hakarimata Scenic Reserve to grab four more Caches.
It was pretty clear where to look for it but there was nothing...

Twas a busy track this Thursday morning !! [:o]
Who are all these mad people dressed in Lycra,
and puffing and panting while trying to overtake me on the stairs ?? Razz
And why do they keep stopping to let me catch up with them again ?? [:o]
Hey if you are going to dress like an Olympian,
at least act like one people Wink

"Ditch the joggers people !!
Get some decent hiking boots ...
... like mine !!" Smile
Ahhh !!! Comfortable, and grippy Smile
Nothing worse than a broken coccyx bone,
from slipping on wet, wooden steps !! Razz
I know !! A fellow traveler suffered that fate on one of me overseas trips !!
It was two weeks before he was well enough to be shipped back to OZ from the Peruvian jungle,
mining camp hospital we left him in Big Grin

But I digress ...
... while many were suffering misery in the name of their goddess Nike,
I was enjoying a 'cola break' here at GZ to catch me breath and wipe the sweat from me brow Smile
A cache was found in the first place I stuck me paw Big Grin

All good here !!

TFTC and a big thanks for some exercise today [^]

Great little find for when you are tired! Forgot our pen but one if us does these stairs every week so will log next time he is here.

15-Dec-15
Meanwhile we thought it should be the "Harakiri" walkway. So many athletes Big Grin Thanks.

Second today on the way down. Yay.

31-Oct-15
We made an early start from home this morning to join in a group walk along the Hakarimata track from Huntly to Ngaruawahia. We parked at the Huntly end and were soon joined by Pagenz, Trout-fly, Team Welsh, Yorkshirekiwi83 and avoyager. Up the hill we went and off for a long day of caching adventure and companionship.
Soon spotted and retrieved the cache. There was quite a lot of traffic going up and down these stairs this afternoon - gave us a chance for a rest while waiting for the opportunity to replace the cache. Thanks.

31-Oct-15
With the help of facebook this walk was arranged a couple of months ago, thankfully the weather played ball. Team Welsh, kiwicouple, avoyager, pagenz and trout-fly and myself were signing as WH or Waikato Hikers all met at our dedicated parking spots and we set off for a wonderful days walking with plenty of laughs, plenty of out of breath moments, plenty of caches and incredibly wobbly legs by the time we finished.

Wow, people who were going up the stairs when we started our decent were passing us as we paused for this cache, took careful management to replace in between all of them. TFTC

31-Oct-15
Plans were hatched, dates were organised, logistics of vehicles sorted and today was the day that Pagenz, avoyager, Kiwicouple, Trout-fly, Yorkshirekiwi83 and myself were to tackle the caches between Huntly and Ngaruawahia, Due to the numbers of teams in this merry band of cachers the logs were signed Waikato Hikers or WH. Truly successful day with no DNF's, lots of chat, laughter and more importantly getting Trout-fly out caching again after a 6 month drought. Very appropriate hiding place for this cache. Soon located and headed down yet some more stairs. TFTC

31-Oct-15
"Come on out, you haven't been caching for a while", they said. "We'll just go for a walk to grab a few caches," they said. Hmmmm, I don't recall anyone mentioning a million stairs when we spoke....

A little bit of logistical arrangements with cars and cachers that made Eisenhower's organization of the D-Day landings in 1944 look easy and Pagenz, Avoyager, Kiwicouple, Team Welsh, Yorkshirekiwi83 & myself were off to tackle the caches between Huntly and Ngaruawahia, via the hills ... and the stairs. It was an excellent days walking with plenty of laughs, great weather and a good bunch of people.

I ended up well behind the bunch here. Thanks.

31-Oct-15
Not quite sure all the fitness people running up the stairs decided to stop right at GZ! Spotted the cache quickly but had to wait a bit for the traffic jam to clear before retrieving. Quickly signed and returned. TFTC.

31-Oct-15
Avoyager found this one, I was the cover as she extracted it - signed the log and put it back - so many fit muggles around today - who runs up these stairs twice>?? t4tc

29-Aug-15
Checked on this cache after completing the trail over the top. Cache has gone, so I've replaced it in the same spot. This track is very busy so please time your retrieval and replacement so to not be seen.

We found this one on the way back down which made it a bit harder. Lots of tangled up trees, but finally hit on the right one. We have had such a good morning up this track! TFTC.

12.55pm - Like wise remembered hint and found cache. Can't believe the people running up all these steps. SLTFTC

28-Mar-15
On the road again... with Gap (of Fap and Gap). We are heading to the Hakarimatas to hopefully find enough terrain points to complete a Geo License Challenge. This should really test the limits... we've heard that this place has in excess of 1000 steps to negotiate.

Hakarimatas: We nervously set off from the Brownlee Ave entrance. We knew this track has stairs 'for Africa', but figured that we might as well get the hard yards out of the way. More worrying for us was that neither of us brought our gps' and our iPhones weren't fully charged either. We made a decision to drop the first two caches on the way up, as the lower terrain meant that we could return at a later date. We also bypassed the multi, as this might have used precious battery power that we didn't have to spare. We made a decision to switch off our devices until they were needed, and we searched by intuition...

The steps just kept coming... We were passed by a steady stream of runners in different states of stress. Some looked like they were ready for hospitalisation, while others seemed to be hardly breaking a sweat. For the second time, we located a cache without needing a gps. I have to take my hat off to Gap. He was carefully studying the landscape and chose the right spot to stop and search for this one. TFTC.

23-Mar-15
Quick run with mates, was told the general direction by one of them as I didn't have my phone on me. Couldn't sign as I didn't have a pen either, but a good hiding spot!! TFTC

Found it. Log full, so I took a photo. I am planning another trip up later this week in a bid to get fit so I am happy to drop off another log when I do if the CO doesn't want to climb those steps!

10-Feb-15
Had to pretend to take some photos to avoid muggles catching us out when doing this one! A nice quick find, and then ran out of time to do anymore. Tftc!

Out caching with Shellabellabee today - finished off the 52 Pickup series and then did part of this walk to grab a few caches before heading off to work. A quick grab, sign and return in between the multitudinous motional merry muggles on this track.... hope you enjoy a bit of alliteration, TFTC Smile

Found. Didn't have time to sign due to muffles. Will do next time

Day 2, of my 3 day caching trip, in Huntly &Ngaruawahia.
Today I planned to do all the hill climbs – Taupiri and 3 in the Hakarimatas, due to needing some higher terrain caches for GeoLisence. Although I'll probably use this one for the month it was published.
Got to a place where GPS was indicating I was close and read the description and hint. looked to my right and there it was.
As I was signing I could hear kids approaching from above - had to quickly replace the cache, just in time. 2 girls about 9/10 came running passed, chatting the whole time to each other. I was almost at half way when their parents passed, at least I guessed it was their parents - they were saying that the girls were probably waiting by the car by now. TFTC

On our way up to complete the Waikato Mountain Challenge (GC1G9Z8), we stopped off for this one. You were certainly right about it being a popular track. We were passed in both directions by multitudinous runners (some of them the same ones multiple times). Fortunately, Miss Jacksonz made a quick find, and we had a drinks stop to disguise the signing, and await a clear track for the return. TFTC.

19-Dec-13
GZ was a busy place today with people comming in different directions at inoptune moments. One on the way up as I was about to start my search which meant I had had to 'stop for some water' and another this time on the way down as I was about to replace the cache, so yip another water break. I was well hydrated before I continued up the path! Good clue ensured a quick retrievel. TFTC

04-Dec-13
I thought the stairs would never end....A good clue meant this was easy to locate even though the tree cover upset the GPS. TFTC

23-Oct-13
Very nice track and quite a few steps to cache!
Nice easy find. SL TFTC

20-Oct-13
Saw this trail yesterday when doing the 52 power trail and decided to get there on my way back from Cambridge to Auckland for a break and some walking... I was very surprised to find so many great caches on this trail...Took me some time to get the cache out of his hiding place special to all the joggers running by. TFT

02-Oct-13

22-Mar-13
Another nice find on the trek to the top! ("Are we there yet?") I was a lot less fit than I thought, so stopping for this and the other caches was a great excuse for a breather! TFTC!

16-Feb-13
Having already been for a run today, the old legs were a bit sore so the sight of all these stairs was a bit of a worry! Razz Evilno9 took off, and I slowly made my way up behind him. By the time I reached the top he had found the cache, signed the log, and was rehiding it! The walk down was much more enjoyable Smile Great spot though, thanks!

16-Feb-13
With the light starting to fade from the day we motored up the steps to get to this one. Definitely a good cache to get the blood pumping, and a nice place to stop and rest (and find the cache). Nice little spot and a nice quick find before heading back down for a couple more before dark. TFTC

17-Jan-13
Stopped in at this tangled spot for a bit of a breather and to nab this knotted up cache. Nice wee hiding spot for the cache.

Easy find, took longer to work out how to get it out of it's hidey hole.
